Where and What to Eat Outdoors in Portland, Maine | Eater Boston

"One of the city’s most beloved breweries, Rising Tide has taken year-round outdoor dining to the next level. Eaters can sit around one of the brewery’s many fireplaces, or nestle underneath its big tent, which is fully heated. Rising Tide has also recently partnered with Fire & Co., a food truck that specializes in wood-fired comfort food. Expect sandwiches, oysters, and pizzas that go great with every sip of MITA. Rising Tide is open for outdoor dining and takeout." - Briana Volk

Rising Tide Brewing Company - Review - Bayside - Portland, ME - The Infatuation

"Walk about 10 minutes east of Oxbow, and you’ll be at Rising Tide Brewing. This is a smaller operation than Oxbow (they don’t have a lot of distribution outside of Maine), and it generally stays a little calmer here. When it’s nice outside, they open all of their garage doors which, along with all the picnic tables out front, makes it feels like one big patio. We like that their flights come in little wooden boxes and that they have a big food truck event the first Friday of every month." - Hannah Albertine

9 Best Breweries in Portland, Maine | Condé Nast Traveler

"After spending years laying down a solid foundation and building its fanbase with beers like its Maine Island Trail Ale, Rising Tide has a robust barrel aging program turning out complex beers available in limited batches at the brewery. While the brews are smartly crafted, this feels like a place that embraces the idea that beer should be fun. If it's not 17 degrees outside, the picnic tables that fill the parking lot will be occupied by Portlanders shoulder to shoulder enjoying golden beers and games, many of them with dogs happily laying by their side." - Noah Kaufman

Google
Great burgers, fried, calamari and beer. Food selection could be greater, but what they have is pretty awesome. Beers are good as well like the daffodil one. Wish the burgers weren’t that overpriced for a double stack tho essentially 21 dollars. Otherwise, great place.

Google
Huge space, lots of parking, plenty of seating, and friendly staff. Decent range of beers including IPA, Pilsner, Ale, Lager, Hefeweizen, Stout, Dunkel, Porter and some gluten free seltzer/ cider options. They serve food as well like fish cakes, burgers, fries and other bar food. They have large tic tac toe in the couch area. The space is dog friendly. The Spinnaker is sweet and smooth, dancing daffodils is hoppy, Striper is an ale with light lemon flavor, Nikita is a smooth stout.

My husband and I came here on a Wednesday night with our 1 year old. I had a flight and he enjoyed 2 pints. For dinner he had breaded chicken and I had a fish sandwich. We both enjoyed our meals. He ate my coleslaw and said it was quite tasty. I picked up a 4 pack of more beers for us to try at home. The beer was good, nothing was rated below a 3.25 for me on Untappd. My favorite was the blueberry and the hefe while my husband enjoyed the copper ale. The can artwork was some of my favorite that I’ve seen lately. I loved the puffin artwork and ordered that in my flight even though I’m not an IPA drinker.

Google
Not a lot of options for sour beers but the only option they had was very good. As for food, hands down the best smash burger I have ever had. We ordered the Bayside double; the bun was fresh and meat was perfectly grilled and caramelized. We also ordered the my Greek vacation (falafel) and it was good as well.

Google
Really enjoyed my visit to Rising Tide Brewing in Portland. The IPA selection was fantastic, and the location had so much to offer, great vibes all around. Can’t wait to stop by again!

Google
Sincerely debated a 1 star here. Beers good but WOW the bathrooms. Parents, don’t bring your kids here. Extreme even for a place like Portland Maine. What was once a men’s room and a women’s room, now has the doors removed where men, women, and children just walk in together. Total free for all.

Google
Great brewery with a good cross section of beers for all tastes

Google
9/30/23 - Nice Brewery. Lots of seating. My fiancé got a flight and chicken tenders and fries. The chicken tender and fries were pretty good. I loved the atmosphere of the place. Would enjoy to come back if we visit Maine again.

Yelp
Good beer - a couple of great flavors only offered in this tasting room Nice outdoor seating with live music The big negative was poor service in regards to food. We ordered pretzel bites that never came. When my friend went to ask about the pretzels, the answer was that they were delivered to another table! We still had our order number but no sense of urgency to get us food or apology!!
google avatar

Yelp
Starting with the obvious, great beer selection. I especially like the Waypoint, and all of the porters and stouts which you could not get in the grocery. Food was good giant pretzel good cheese dip. We tried the Thai peanut butter wings, which were excellent. The brewery is half inside half outside with Service at the bar relax vibe.
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
We had a fall beer flight and i loved the additional beer cheese dip that came with the pretzels. We also had fries which were good. We waited awhile for our food, but the beers were fast. We sat outside and there were a lot of tables.
google avatar

Yelp
Great brews, lots of patio seating, dogs allowed on patio which is great! They have a food truck too and the inside is an open air concept. We got the pretzels and honestly surprised at how good they are! Soft and comes with cheese sauce and mustard

Yelp
Beautiful spot and perfect for a brew on a gorgeous day! We were recommended this spot by a regular and even though we didn't stay for longer than one drink, it was a great place to take a beat, have a good beer and relax. It's everything you'd want in a good brewery: lots of space & tables inside as well as outside a great beer list boardgames pup friendly! I tried the Summer Breeze because I was looking for something summery, fruity and not too heavy. Definitely found it in this brew! I'm not a big beer person myself so when I find one I like, I recommend it to everyone I know. Enjoy this wonderful spot! If you are on the hunt for a good brewery, I don't think you'll be disappointed here.

Yelp
Favorite spot when we visit Portland! Great beers and service! We had the Ishmael Red and a Rose wine....delicious!

Yelp
I have been to rising tide for a few events and was just there last night for one. The space is large and lots of room to network. They have big garage doors that open up to the outside. The food was great and you have your own bar for the event. I also frequent this place in the summer. It is a great brewery with lots of outside seating. They have a food truck outside and also sometimes they have music. I'm not a huge IPA fan but I enjoy some of their beers and they have other things if you aren't a beer drinker.
google avatar

Caroline L.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good brews. Lots of room to hang out with indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of family fun with board games and corn hole. Good bites too. It's an enjoyable couple of hours in a fun space! PLUS they offer free French fries for teachers - we love businesses that support teachers

Yelp
I don't normally hit breweries because I'm not a beer drinker, but a friend of mine was in a terrible accident and Rising Tide so graciously hosted a fundraiser. Not only did they donate a proceed of their sales, they had donation cups on the counter to collect cash. From what I hear, it was a very successful benefit, so for that THANK YOU for supporting our friend. As I said before, I'm not a beer drinker so I can't speak to the flavors of their local brews, but they did have an apple pie flavored cider on tap, wine, and a couple of other non-beer drinks to accommodate others. I appreciated the choices. You gotta get some snacks when you are indulging in alcoholic beverages. We ordered the soft pretzels and the baked feta. Wow! We were so surprised with how yummy they both were. Baked feta was new to us all, but we've been left craving it and can't wait to meet again! The pitas for dipping were seasoned to perfection and we actually had enough of them to finish the dish. I hate it when you get a whole bowl of dip and like 4 pieces of pita. Not here! I was wondering, is it weird if I stop by just to eat?!

Yelp
Love this spot! Very easy and great for a group. All the food we got was delicious and definitely a level up from typical brewery food. Service was quick and easy. Order at the bar and delivered to your table in less than 15 mins
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my time at Rising Tide Brewing Company. You can taste four beers that you pick out yourself or go with one of their set flights. I was told I got the "typical Maine" beers. I tried Blueberry Squadron, Spinnaker, Wicked Woopie, & Maine Island Trail Ale. Rising Tide also offers food including an assortment of burgers, sandwiches, and snacks. I had the chicken tender basket. It was good. I just wish I had ordered an additional sauce. The large patio is perfect for groups and I appreciated that smoking and vaping are banded on the patio. Well behaved dogs are welcome on the patio too. There also are gender-neutral bathrooms where you just walk in and pick a stall.

Yelp
Was nearby and decided to stop by and I am glad I did. They have been in business for over 12 years in the area years and at the same location for 10 years. I drank flights of a wide variety of beers (really liked the Spinnaker Hefeweizen and Choose Love). Service was quick, friendly, and attentive (thanks Alan). They have food. Room for large parties, very high energy place. They have events, so check their website. I would highly recommend drinking here. If nearby give it a try. Enjoy!!

Yelp
The jams! You can reel me in with good music and you did...plus amazing beers! Amazing place to hang out, relax and they have food/snacks too. We did a flight to check out what they had to offer, and they did not disappoint! Great place to come to and they have some scheduler entertainment as well! Great service and staff who will recommend some great beers!
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
We came in on a rainy Thursday as they were opening. They do still have beer flights so we tried four items which we loved every single one, especially the summer pinkish beer and the IPA. It was nice to see the canning process going on. Tons of outdoor seating and some indoors.
google avatar

Jeffrey T.

Yelp
Spinnaker is my fav beer in Maine. Seasonal though so I buy lots of four packs. Great food truck attached outdoors. Beer is the bomb. Treat yourself!!!!
google avatar

Evelyn M.

Yelp
Cute place. A stop on our own brewery tour. The service was good but I personally didn't enjoy the beer I choose but they had many beers to select from.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
My wife and I were on a Maine road trip and we took a long walk along Portland's coast and we stopped at a few breweries and I was so looking forward to the pig-witch. We got there and it was sold-out. The only reason it didn't get five stars. The service was great and they had a performer and lots of great outdoor seating. Their beer was solid and they had free stickers. Score! After a 4 mile walk in the summer heat, a couple of beers were a great thirst quencher.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I am not a huge lover of beer, but I definitely enjoyed the Cove and the Strawberry!!! The staff was very friendly and their setup was great! They also served wood fired pizza here as well! Next time we will definitely have to sample that!
google avatar

Jesse L. R.

Yelp
Always in search of good breweries, we ended up at Rising Tide. They have an awesome outdoor seating section, and you are seated upon arrival. There is no going to the bar to decide your drinks, as they bring everything to your table. I had been eyeing their sours for a while now, and they did not disappoint! I loved the Blueberry Squadron the most and grabbed some to go. I wish we had more time to spend here, as they also serve wood fire pizza that looked really good as well!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to visit. I should have written it a dozen 5-star reviews prior to this one. The large, high-ceiling open space. The year-round patio seating. The entertainment. The front-of-the house bathrooms with air flow. The fabulous beer and delicious food. All of it is spectacular, and exactly what we've needed to be able to meet up with friends while still avoiding Covid infections. This last visit, however, was not up to par. They were out of propane on a weekend, so no fires to take the chill away. Annoying, but not a reason to remove a star. The fries were cold and the grilled cheese lukewarm by the time it arrived, but still delicious. The real issue was the sick server with the hacking cough and stuffy nose. Please, please, please do not let your staff come to work sick. They cough in their arms, and then balance your food in those arms. They wipe their noses and then touch your beer glass. It's always been gross, but as Covid has ramped up again, it could have long-term affects on someone's life. The only reason I stayed is that the contact with servers is so limited by the barside ordering, the wind was up and blowing in a safe (for us) direction, and because my friend and I had been planning this lunch date for so long. Had I been alone or with my husband, we would have left. People with potentially contagious illness have no business serving food and drink.

Yelp
We spent the day recently tasting beer in Portland, wanted to mix beer with food and Rising Tide had good beer and a nice food truck! The beer was great, the food selections a bit lacking, but we made do. We ordered a cheeseburger w/fries and chicken nuggets. The burger was okay - the fries were cold. The chicken nuggets were good, but again, cold fries. We'll go back but probably just for beer! Service was good, and the space was awesome!
google avatar

Todd C.

Yelp
Nice place. Pleasant outside, albeit the music is a bit too loud. Plenty of beers, I like the Oktoberfest. The leeway nitro pub ale is great as well. Tried the Maine potato fries with the aioli, yum
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Of the 6 breweries I visited in Portland, Rising Tide was my favorite brewery. The beer, staff and vibe were all top notch. If you have limited time in Portland and are trying to choose between all the breweries in Portland to visit, definitely adds this one to the list.
google avatar

Ed B.

Yelp
Stopped here to get warm during the deep freeze and ended up enjoying some delicious warm pretzel sticks, several warmed breads, beer cheese dip and onion dip. Beverages included beers and kombucha. Ordered at the counter and food delivered to the table. Laid back crowd; lots of walk-in traffic picking up six packs from the well stocked refrigerator. One won't be disappointed by the food.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
Staff and location were nice... but possibly the worst beer I had on our New England trip. Honestly shocked this place was rated so high.
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
Nice place to hang out on the outside area even with this cold winter! The place has igloos that you can book (with min $60ish check), didnt try this time but will do next!!! We were happy to sit around the cozy firepit with our beers. I had a beer flight and loved it. Love this place
google avatar

Jenna S.

Yelp
This place was really cool! The beers and the brewery scene were both really great. We got a flight of a few different beers and were impressed by them. They had a lot of outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. This is definitely a must stop on your brewery tour in Maine.
google avatar

Jenna C.

Yelp
HARDLY Dog Friendly!!! Just spent $150.00 at this place and my dog barked mid meal and the owner walks up and tells you he can not bark & you're going to have to take everything off premises. Excuse me? Don't allow dogs...
google avatar

Jesse A.

Yelp
Incredible place! Super nice staff and amazing beer selection (including flights). We loved everything--including the lobster roll, which was excellent. They also had pizzas and they sounded amazing, though we didn't partake. Definitely recommended.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
We were looking for a friendly space to join some friends and our dogs. This was it! Super friendly with our dogs, brought them each water bowls and treats on a hot day. Quick, friendly and helpful service and beer recommendations. Lots of nice beer options. Had the Strata recommended by our server, which ended up being one of my favorite Maine beers. Our group also shared two wood fired pizzas, both very good. Highly recommend checking them out.
google avatar

Evelyn M.

Yelp
Great outdoor area! War area as well and fired pizza on site. Love the gender neutral bathrooms!! Only had a quick stop before heading to the airport.

kris s.

Yelp
I would have given at least 4 stars for the beer and service...but no warning about the restroom situation. My wife was very much embarrassed having the other sex in the same restroom. We are open to a lot of things but prefer having notification and a choice. Thank you!
google avatar

Domenic M.

Yelp
Awesome beer and food. Service excellent!! Staff was nice. I highly recommend this spot.
google avatar

Dave L.

Yelp
Cool brewery in a huge space, good tunes and friendly staff. We had a few different brews, most of which we liked a lot. If I lived nearby this place would definitely be a regular stop for me. If you like beers that aren't all IPA variations, check out Rising Tide. Recommended.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Popping environment. Lots of people. Band playing. Cornhole. Food truck. Clean. Nikita was good. 9.8% alcohol. Bitterest and strongest of the three. Waypoint is the most refreshing of the three. Slight bitter aftertaste. Zephyr was basic iPa. Least favorite of the three. Overall, recommend.
google avatar

Gail T.

Yelp
Great beer selection as always with the added safety of dining outside in igloos. There were 4 of us that attended. The mac and cheese and french fries were delicious. This place is really popular so make sure to make your reservations way ahead. I wish they didnt have a minimum $60 for purchase as it would be tough to meet with just 2 diners.
google avatar

Linnea H.

Yelp
We had a great time here. There was a bit of a wait (30 minutes) on a sunny day around noon, but we put our name in and walked around the neighborhood while we waited for them to text us. The patio is quite large and all the tables are spaced apart. Great variety of beers, prompt service at our table, and tasty wood-fired pizzas from the food truck on premises.
google avatar

Maranda W.

Yelp
Rising tide has always had beer that we enjoy. We typically stop to get cans to go but we had time to sit and enjoy the heated tent set up outside. It was a little too windy for the tent to do much but it was better than nothing. We shared a flight and some nachos. The nachos were a great snack to have with our beers. They. Weren't anything fancy but the chip to toppings ratio was perfect! Every chip had some other ingredients with it.
google avatar

Jenni W.

Yelp
We decided to come here for our first meal in Portland--some of our friends wanted to try some of their draft beers. We were able to get a table of four before half an hour before they closed. They have a safe set-up, with outdoor seating and plenty of space between tables. Masks are required to be worn when not seated at the table. We decided to get two pizzas in addition to the beers. I ordered a light cider that was refreshing and we ordered the Big Mac Pizza and the pizza with banana peppers and pepperoni. Both types of pizza were very different and very good. The Big Mac pizza had ground beef, different types of lettuce, pickles, pickled onions, and some Thousand Island dressing drizzled on top. It was a little sweet and a unique type of pizza. The other type of pizza was more traditional with a red sauce base but also pretty unique with the banana peppers on top. We ordered two pizzas and it was just enough for four people to eat. Service was great, the waitress was very hospitable and friendly. The food and drinks also came out very quickly. Definitely recommend coming here for beers and/or snacks! Also FYI, they don't have any hard liquor drinks so if you don't drink beer or wine, you're a little out of luck.
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
Beer is awesome! Great service! Nice chill environment! However, wish they would stick to making awesome beers and be less political.
google avatar

Angie M.

Yelp
Best craft beer in Portland and we visited quite a few. So good I had to bring some home with me! Special shout out to Karlie Murphy, super sweet, helpful and excellent service!
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
Good beer. Good Company. Good atmosphere. Good Good Good. You have to come here if you're in Portland, ME. You HAVE to. Make your way here, strike a convo with a bartender, drink some beer, play some games, and enjoy your day. Such a chill spot. Great for large groups.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
Came here on a visit to Portland and ordered a flight. All 4 beers were watered down with very bitter flavor. No AC to speak of. Left immediately.
google avatar

Celia K.

Yelp
House made apps & great local brews. One of the best breweries in the Portland area. Great spot to stop at if you're brewery hopping and want a bite to eat in the afternoon. I am anticipating the nice weather so I can come back and sit outside!
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Stop 2 on the self guided brew tour of Portland. Super great venue. Looks like an old mechanic shop converted to a brewery. 5 minutes from Shipyard. Flight of 4 for $8. Not a huge variety, but quality beers. We had the Sputnik ( my fav), the Oscar tango, the day mark, and the spinnaker. I watched their whole canning process, which is an experience in itself. They did have a food truck, the Salt Box Cafe, which was serving some mouth watering grilled cheese sandwiches. The staff were super friendly and talked to us about Portland for a hot minute. He's clearly a fan of this city and it shows! Bathrooms were large, spacious and clean! Kiddos!
google avatar

Kimberly R.

Yelp
Rising Tide was great! They had plenty of beer and a few cider options. They had a tent outside for patio seating. Make this a stop when you're in town!

Frank C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service, quality beers and fresh, tasty food. Too many fun flavor profiles to list them here without getting mixed up, but definitely a place with a beer for any palate. Girlfriend enjoyed some tasty kombucha as well. Also, after being turned away from another brewery that claimed to be dog friendly on the phone but allowed only service animals , Rising Tide was not just tolerant of our pup, but took her picture for their Instagram page. Definitely worth a visit, would highly recommend, especially if you're a dog lover or owner.
google avatar

Prianka S.

Yelp
Really nice selection of beers and a really nice and open area to accommodate during the COVID pandemic. The staff is really nice and all safety protocols are followed. Would definitely recommend this spot to anybody looking for a great brewery
google avatar

Amit M.

Yelp
Great spot to grab drinks. The beer selection here is really good. Big fan of the Onward, MITA and Oktoberfest. I've only been here during the COVID-19 pandemic so there was only outdoor seating available. Tables are spaced out a good amount and the staff does a great job of meeting all the safety guidelines.
