The Best Gluten-Free Restaurants In NYC

"Rice is already gluten-free, but you’ll know Risotteria Melotti is made specifically for gluten-free eaters when you see the rest of the menu. In addition to an extensive selection of perfectly al dente risottos, the 100% GF offerings include antipasti like crispy calamari fried in rice flour and bruschetta on rice bread, as well as rice-based desserts like tiramisu made with rice sponge cake. You’ll eat everything in a kitschy space that looks like a rustic Italian villa gone awry, with a ladder, a wooden crate, and antique lighting hanging from the ceiling. In addition to an extensive selection of risottos, the 100% GF offerings include antipasti like crispy calamari fried in rice flour and bruschetta on rice bread, as well as rice-based desserts like tiramisu made with rice sponge cake. The best risottos are the most robust. We especially love the one topped with tender pork loin, fresh pancetta, and plenty of grana panado. Risotteria Melotti is such a cute spot in NYC. All of the risottos are gluten-free, which was great for dining with my Celiac girlfriend. Inside, it’s a small but intimate space. It feels almost like you’re dining in someone’s home because the kitchen is so close by. For my meal, I had the calcio and pepe risotto. It was delicious and extremely filling. After that, I absolutely had to have the tiramisu for dessert. I love tiramisu and this was no different. With the large portions, I could’ve shared my dessert, but my girlfriend wanted the Nutella crepe, which was also delicious. Overall, I highly recommend coming here.

Wow. What an absolute gem. A little restaurant in town with intimate seating and a homey atmosphere. The staff is super friendly. The food is delicious and made well. There is a mushroom risotto with mixed wild organic mushrooms and Grana Padano P.D.O. cheese. That was mouthwateringly good. The arancini of the day was a must have as well. The mixed berry sorbet was too sweet for me but half of it was the perfect treat. I will definitely be back to try more dishes! Now for my standard comments. Easy to walk to in town. There is a good amount of seating but it is a bit packed. Still quite comfortable and cozy to dine in.

I had an incredible experience at this restaurant! As someone who eats gluten-free and follows a vegan diet, finding a place that truly delivers on both can be tough—but this spot absolutely nailed it. The risotto was rich, creamy, and perfectly cooked, with creative flavor combinations that made each bite a delight. The vegan options weren’t just afterthoughts—they were thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. The staff was knowledgeable and accommodating, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a top-notch gluten-free and vegan-friendly dining experience!

Even if you're not gluten free, I really recommend you check out this place! Everything was really excellent! We had the Fritto misto (calamari) appetizer and the Caesar salad to start - the salad was amazing quite honestly! The gluten free croutons were the best (I usually am never able to get croutons with salad!). For the main meal we had the pollo bacon risotto and the spinaci asiago pasta. The risotto - fantastic! The pasta was good but please allow the server to add cheese to it! I asked them to skimp on the cheese and I needed to add salt to it which was my mistake. When the server came back I asked them to put the normal amount of cheese on it and that fixed it. For dessert we had the special which was the raspberry chocolate tart.... OMG.... Phenomenal!!! Service was excellent and everything was fantastic. I will be back!!

Google
GO HERE!!!! The atmosphere of this place transports you to the Verona ‘farm fresh’ feel how the Melotti family started. One of the best meals I have had in a while. Of course the risotto is incredible and all ingredients are so clean from Italy. The focaccia was a dream! And all gluten free?! The aranci was to die for and the peach cobbler was great.

Grace Tan

Google
We had the Risotto in the cheese bowl which was a new dish for us and it was SO good!! And tiramisu for dessert was to die for. plus everything is gluten free so it is a great spot for celiacs! it’s quite a small spot so i felt like we were squeezed in, but service was great and the food was really really good.

Google
I cannot recommend this place enough. Definitely my favorite meal out of my whole entire trip to NYC. The flavor is unbeatable and the atmosphere is super cute and cozy. Amazing wine selections and AMAZING food. Incredibly allergen friendly as well, as someone who’s dairy free I was still able to enjoy what I wanted off the menu. I had the fried calamari/shrimp and the lemon risotto with shrimp, I’m going to be dreaming about this meal until the next time I can visit for sure.

Google
Risottos from Risotteria is pretty decent, the first taste feels not too special but feels like home cooked meal. The portion was not enough for boyfriend, but it was very filling for me. Their wild mushroom risotto is really delish with perfect cheesy(or salty?)ness. But their shrimp risotto is little questionable—not that it’s not good, but just too simple flavors with just lemon taste to it. Their wine lists are little disappointing, though, because it felt like they only source the wines from particular town in Italy, which is understandable, but it was hard to decide/match with the food we’re getting. It felt like some wines just don’t fit or too cheap to drink with the food.(Wine itself is cheap but their price is not.. they charge you a price of the bottle for a glass lol) The servers are mostly nice, but they will rush you out if you don't order desserts. Little intimidating if you don’t like being starred at for few mins even when you’re not done with your wine/mimosa. The server will get rid of the empty glass right away without even asking if you’d like a second glass. Would go back to try some other menus but felt slightly expensive for the taste, vibe, and the service you get.

Yelp
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Risotteria Melotti. We chose the restaurant based on our long personal history with "Risotteria" the restaurant located in the Village (now closed). Melotti checked all the boxes. It was amazing. My wife has Celiac, and is very sensitive to cross contamination, so Melotti is perfect. It should be listed on more Gluten Free sites. The food was amazing. The restaurant is tiny and awesome. My wife took photos of the drawers on the walls that are used as picture frames & shelves. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. And if you are a Celiac, eat here as often as you can. Risotteria Melotti is 100% gluten free. It should be on more Celiac sites. The food is. amazing, and it's a worry free evening of deliciousness

Yelp
Wonderfully cozy Italian spot with fantastic gluten free options. Italian ownership and servers make the experience even more lovely. The staff is super accommodating and kind, and the food is comforting. We started off with some rather impressive gluten free focaccia (table bread) which was pretty decent-- it also comes in a basket with halved rice cakes which I got a kick out of. My dining partner and I shared the avocado cucumber salad, and had the pesto risotto (vegan) and salmon for entrees. Salad was crisp and fresh, and lots of chunky avocado. The risotto was perfectly al dente with luscious roasted tomatoes. The preparation was dairy free so I bet this would be even better as it comes with the straciatella if you can eat it. The salmon was grilled with care and minimal oil (that's rare!!). Super fresh and satiating. I loved the texture of the crispy rice and salad below the filet. The meal is on the pricier side, but for a fabulous and filling Sunday dinner where you're likely to have tasty leftovers, it was delicious and would recommend.

Yelp
A little disappointing - tasty risotto but food was lacking flavor. Of course no salt on the table which would have helped. Nice bar & good service.

Kasandra C.

Yelp
Not sure what happened used to love this place! Got the spinach risotto. Smells like mildew and the spinach is chopped up which I've never seen before. Tastes horrible but paid $40 for this so best believe I'm eating it! Bummer. Not sure what happened here, really disappointed

Yelp
My friends and I were impressed by this restaurants urbane sophistication. It's on the smaller size, but still cozy. The waiter was very friendly and reassuring, as my friend eats gluten free. We were able to order gluten free bread and arracinhis.

Yelp
It was the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so many restaurants seemed pretty empty, My usual Greek place was still closed, so we decided to check a new place around East Village. I was in the mood for some nice seafood risotto, and this place was nearby. The interior is really cute with a variety of promo posters about the Melotti rice farm along with a TV show about the family and the farm. The decor is rustic and charming, but the tables are really close together. Fortunately, there was only one other table at that time. We ordered an arugula salad, simple but tasty with lots of parmesan cheese shavings. We also ordered an app off the special menu which was a burrata with pumpkin cake that was topped with some kind of cheese sauce. It was topped with little puffy rice crackers. That dish was so good and decadent. I don't know how many calories that burrata pumpkin cake packed, but we finished that dish with no regrets. And I'm not much of a cheese lover! As for the risotto, the closest seafood risotto dish they had was octopus and shrimp risotto in tomato sauce but with black rice. The server thankfully warned me that the black rice would be quite al dente and they can't make it any softer, so I went with regular risotto rice. I have to say, I would have much preferred saffron type of sauce, as I wasn't too crazy about the tomato sauce. The risotto was cooked perfectly as well as the octopus and shrimp, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. My husband got the special which was the veal meatballs risotto. It was pretty good, but I wouldn't order that again especially considering it was $40! I don't think I'll be in the mood for a risotto anytime soon, but if I do return, I plan to try the wild mushroom risotto or the truffle risotto. Hopefully they will have some interesting dishes on their specials menu next time.

Yelp
Went for dinner on Saturday night, place was packed, reservations are highly recommended. Inside is very small dining room with open kitchen. Typical for many NYC eateries, space is tight, you can hardly move between tables. Young lady whose chair was on the back of our table, was constantly shaking her long hair near our plates, we had to move further but couldn't. As for food, it was delicious, service was great too.

Yelp
Beautiful place... cozy and really spectacular dishes. They served us despite arriving a little late. Thank you so much...i really recommend that place

Yelp
Can't believe I never heard of this place when I lived in the East Village. They specialize in risotto here and it really shows because the risotto is absolutely delicious. There's about a dozen different varieties to choose from and they seem to accommodate all sorts of different diets as well. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the risottos on their menu. There's a decent selection of appetizers too though the entree portions are generous enough and there's complimentary (rice) bread service that I don't feel the need to order appetizers. The Valpolicella-focused wine list deserves some praise too. I've not seen a wine by the glass list that has such a good variety of wines from a single region and all from a lesser known wine region at that. And because Valpolicella has such a great range from the light-bodied, easy drinking classicos to the full-bodied, more serious amarone, you're likely to find a glass that pairs well with whatever risotto you order (whether that's a light vegetable-forward risotto or a heavier risotto powered with red meat).

Yelp
The staffs are friendly. The service was great. We loved all the dishes we ordered. Their risotto is why we come back here. Chef really knows how to make delicious food with love.

Alex G.

Yelp
This was the most mediocre meal I have had in a while. The meal started with the free bread, which was absolutely atrocious. I would have a much better opinion of this place if they skipped this part entirely. They served these cold slices of bread that tasted like they were bought from the bottom shelf of a cheap grocery store and left at the counter for a few days. And another "bread" that was just rice crispies. The quality of the olive oil was also quite poor. The risotto I ordered was the Duck Breast Ragu, and it was actually quite decent, but was not nearly good enough to make up for the start. The only saving grace was that the servers let my table stay for a long while after we were done to talk. Never felt rushed in either ordering or leaving, so it was decent time. I don't see myself recommending this place to anyone though.
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
It's very rare that I get to order off an exclusively gluten free menu, so having the option to eat anything was very exciting! I loved being able to share bread which is a rarity for me. The place was understandably packed and the service was fast and attentive. The waiter was knowledgeable with wine pairings and helped me pick out an excellent merlot that paired perfectly with my mushroom risotto which was very good. I also enjoyed the peach cobbler which made for a very satisfying meal.

Yelp
We tried Risotteria Melotti in Manhattan today before we had to catch the train to MD. Two of the people in my party were gluten free so they were in Heaven. It is a Risotto and traditional Italian rice-based cuisine 100% gluten free. Besides the wonderful Risotto choices, they had the most extensive gluten free desert menu I've ever seen. I ended up getting the Caesar salad with kale , chicken and gluten free croutons. Decor was lovely but space is small.
google avatar

Yelp
Oh, my god! I feel there is so great. This is what I started and when I finished! I finished them all! And I don't see a lot of places only for risottoin New York. This is more family cozy style, not super high end, but do feel good. They are not a lot tables available. So maybe it's better to go there early.
google avatar

Seth D.

Yelp
Coming back here again each time and the Risotto is perfect. We tried the spinach, speck, and mushroom Risottos. Each were savory and had their own unique flavor profiles. I'm surprised this restaurant is never busy when we are here. Excellent food !
google avatar

Hans S.

Yelp
$70 for 2 orders of this. Worst risotto I have ever had. A child could have made it. Extremely disappointed. Never going back again. This is not NYC standard food.

Ola B.

Yelp
Such a warm, cosy place! The food is delicious! One of the rare places where everything is gluten free! Staff is welcoming and accommodating! Ilo is our favorite waiter, very professional and caring! Feels like home every time we have dinner here! Absolutely recommend!
google avatar

Jenna H.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious 100% gluten free menu and celiac safe... had the Caesar salad, calamari, wild boar ragu risotto and Nutella crepe
google avatar

Becca G.

Yelp
So good me and my friend went twice in one week. I have some dairy allergies and she's gluten free; we could both order almost anything on the menu. The waiters remembered us and everything was delicious both times. I cannot wait to go back!

Emma S.

Yelp
More like rice and less like legit and authentic risotto. Very under seasoned. Arancini were so so and I didn't taste like their marinara sauce was home made. Extremely mid and I'm celiac so I was excited to try a place that was conscious of gluten free items but disappointed.

T. L.

Yelp
Cozy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Food was unfortunately overpriced. We ordered a mushroom risotto for $27 - then we added a "special" which was a pumpkin risotto with a small bit of ground sausage in it. This special risotto surprised us with a hefty $45 charge when the bill arrived. For simple food, with flavors that were a bit lacking, the cost was disappointing. Otherwise, it was a nice experience.

Yelp
Being a fan of risotto, I was excited to try this place out. This was a lovely, cozy space with a friendly atmosphere. I decided to go with the risotto dish ($29) containing pork loin, pancetta, grana padano dop cheese, rosemary, topped with a cinnamon stick. This was served in a small pot and a typical risotto from Verona, Italy. It had a satisfying and intense cheesiness, and there was plenty of tender, juicy, well seasoned pork, but I didn't taste much of the fresh pancetta. The rosemary and other spices were nicely aromatic. For dessert, my friend and I shared the warm chocolate cake paired with vanilla ice cream. This was plated beautifully, with dots of caramel and chocolate sauce surrounding the square shaped plate, along with a sprinkling of powdered sugar and a mint leaf on top of the cake and ice cream. The cake was incredibly delicious - Rich, deeply chocolate-y, and sweet. The ice cream was creamy and velvety smooth, which was the perfect accompaniment. The service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and made sure we were taken care of throughout our time here. However, I thought the meal was overpriced. I will not be returning.

Yelp
I came here on a Friday night with four other people. The ambience was very lively. We asked for separate checks and were told it was not a problem. I had risotto with chicken and bacon. It was beautifully presented but was way too salty for me. At the end we were given one check. Not going back.
google avatar

Rose M.

Yelp
We got the burrata special that was AMAZING. the truffle risotto was also amazing but having the truffle burrata and the truffle risotto was a bit much.

Sydney F.

Yelp
As someone with celiac disease, it is incredibly difficult to find good food, especially when many are uneducated about cross contamination. My server Micole not only was incredibly accommodating, kind, and attentive, but she gave me TWO additional free bags of cookies and bread when I told her how delicious they were upon ordering. Thank you Risotteria Melotti and Micole for making this such a great experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Gluten-free risotto enthusiast!!??? Visit here and you get to try Risotto that an Italian family brought over for New Yorkers to try. Charming / rustic ambiance. They serve classic recipes and also a few different unique takes. I love how they are one of the few spots in new york that caters to my celiac friends out there.

Ken B.

Yelp
Ridiculously expensive for the quality of the service and food. The waiter was not friendly. It is a tiny little hole in the wall with no ambience. Now I know why it was empty. Will not return.

Sophia S.

Yelp
Lovely welcoming staff, tasty rich risotto cooked to perfection, great variety on the menu, all GF, cute vibes. Risottos are between $25 to $36 each. Also bruschetta and lots of other items. Recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely the best Risotto I have ever had! Staff was so friendly and the wine was excellent. Would definitely come back. Cute restaurant!
google avatar

Bryce K.

Yelp
Amazing food and great service all around! Both of our meals were amazing and the burrata appetizer was delicious. We even bought some of their family risotto rice to make at home.

Cindy C.

Yelp
Loved this spot for gluten free risotto. We had a group of 6 and everyone was pleased with their meals.
google avatar

Michele G.

Yelp
Super cute small location with delicious food. Really loved everything but specifically the burrata and the cheese/ beef risotto. Defs recommend- really good and with it. Great service and wonderful atmosphere

MJ R.

Yelp
From start to finish, this dining experience was exceptional. To have an incredible meal without having to even think about gluten contamination was an experience for which i am beyond grateful-- including bread!!!! Our risottos were cooked to perfection and tasted sublime. And the chocolate torte was delicious. The service was top-notch and our server told us information about the rice which is grown by the family who owns the restaurant. Incredible. The atmosphere is quaint and intimate and exactly what we were looking for. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you, thank you for an exceptional dining experience.

Esther A.

Yelp
The food was ok, it was good- not amazing. We have had better risotto. We had truffle risotto and lemon with shrimp risotto. I thought the truffle was good but got tired of the flavor quickly. My bf thought the lemon one didn't have a good flavor to it. We also received some complimentary bread that was in my opinion, not good. We ordered a drink the waiter never came back to refill. So the service was not great and it was not busy at all. Would we return? No.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Stopped by Risotteria Melotti for dinner on a Friday night (make a res in advance!). There's indoor and outdoor seating available, and we opted to dine indoors to avoid the humidity outside. The tables are a little close to one another, but it is cute inside. We also appreciated how friendly and energetic our server was. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio with the Limone E Gamberi risotto (shrimps, fresh lemon juice, grana padano dop cheese, and white wine). The risotto was fantastic. I was afraid it would be too creamy / savory but it was just right. I liked how it was cooked perfectly al dente. The letdowns of the meal were definitely the bread and profiteroles... We had rice cakes and this flavorless/kind of stale bread (not the best, but the olive oil was good), and unfortunately our profiteroles tasted stale as well.
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
Risotto is bomb here. I basically licked my plate clean. I had the risotto with duck which was called ALL' ANATRA. It was just all around delicious. I highly recommend. There is literally nothing else for me to say. I would love to return to try another dish!

Riley G.

Yelp
The most delicious risotto I've ever had! It's so rare to find an Italian restaurant that has so many gluten free options. I brought my partner here on our anniversary and they brought out a desert with a candle! Great cozy and authentic place, I've recommended it to plenty of family.
google avatar

gary g.

Yelp
A really rustic Italian bistro look. But in actuality uncomfortable! We tried the arancini, very dry and disappointing! The frito misto was uninspired and bland. And guess what? The risotto truffle was probably the worst I've ever had. No actual truffle, just flavored with oil or something . Combine the boring food with waiters who couldn't care less...well this place was disappointing and I highly recommend going any place else. Can I add that I am celiac and so was looking forward to a gluten feee experience...but this was really consistently bad.
google avatar

Kathleen K.

Yelp
I have enjoyed their dining experience twice while in NYC! The food and service is sterling.

Lucia M.

Yelp
This place is 100% gluten free and has some amazing food options. The risotto is so yummy and came out quickly. The atmosphere was super quaint and welcoming. The service was fantastic.

Maggie M.

Yelp
Great experience. Food was delicious and everything was gluten free. Safe for those with Celiac disease. Staff was pleasant and attentive. Cozy space with a comfortable ambiance.
google avatar

Paige H.

Yelp
Went for my birthday with a group of friends and the food was absolutely incredible. We had a mixup with our bill that we discovered later which was kind of a bummer but the owner/management was very helpful and we should've caught it before we left so thankful they worked with us. Chose this restaurant because my friend is gluten free and it was Celiac friendly. Really great option! Staff was friendly and the spot is cute. Will definitely go back!
google avatar

Lara G.

Yelp
This is a really cute date spot. Tucked a little off to the side on a side street you would need to know ots here. The rissotto was delicious and everything is gluten free! The one thing is that it feels a bit promotional for the italian brand of rice, melotti, they use.
google avatar

Harold W.

Yelp
My daughter wanted good Italian food and found this place for risotto. We made reservations for 7 pm for Wednesday and arrived about 15 minutes early. The restaurant was pretty empty but filled up within 30 minutes. We started with calamari and arancini (the daily special had mozzarella and goat cheese). I'm not normally a fan of goat cheese but the arancini was very good and the calamari was spot on! For the main course, my wife had the funghi misti which was very mushroom forward and delicious. My daughter had the al tartufo - she really loved the truffle. I had the al ragu di cinghiali. The boar was tasty and flavorful. The reason I couldn't give 5 stars was my risotto had a big chunk of bone in it. When I told the server he told me it was boar so I should have expected bones to be present. I really didn't appreciate that response and would not expect bones in my risotto.
google avatar

Jay B.

Yelp
So thrilled this place exists--I definitely intend to come back. Truly delicious gluten-free places are still hard to come by, and I was very grateful my friend who has celiac could eat here. Definitely recommend the burrata, the risotto all'anatra, and the risotto with spinach. Had profiteroles for dessert and the three that came were huge! Very worth it. Great service and all in all a lovely dinner.
google avatar

Melanie A.

Yelp
During dessert, I got up and told the chef that it was one of the best desserts I'd ever eaten... that's it, that's the review. I had such a nice solo dinner here! The restaurant is adorable inside, a great mix of classic decor but stylish touches. Even their bathroom is cute!! My 3-course meal included a Caesar salad, the shrimp risotto, and the special for the night - peach crumble. As others have mentioned, the meal comes with in house prepared rice cakes and bread. Neither are flavorful, but the bread is yummy dipped in olive oil, and the rice cakes served as a great palate cleanse after the meal. I also enjoyed a lovely glass of moscato with dinner The server was incredibly attentive and kind, explaining everything in detail. She came by often, but not oppressively so, to check on me and refill water, etc. The Caesar salad was awesome, with all fresh lettuce, nice cuts of cheese that melt in your mouth, and delicious small gluten free croutons. The risotto was delicious as well - there was a ton of flavor in the lemon and white wine of the sauce, and the shrimp was very good quality. My favorite part was absolutely the dessert - the sweetness of the peaches and crumble was perfect, serving size just right, and the mix of crunch and softness was so refreshing. It was amazing!! So happy this restaurant serves the celiac population and does so with a family focus.

Alexis D.

Yelp
Wayyyy too Al dente. Crème puff was also pretty dry. Chocolate cake was phenomenal and staff was nice. Glad I got to try a fully gluten free spot but not enough for me to ever want to come back

Kristen C.

Yelp
This was HEAVENLY. For someone with several good restrictions, this risotto was so incredibly good. Gluten free, vegan/dairy free and it was honestly the best thing I've ever eaten.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Best dinner we had on this trip to the city. Definitely a go-to for future trips.
