"A panoramic restaurant with its own private jetty, known for staying open in the winter and attracting visitors with its stunning views."

Wintering in Lake Como Reveals Italy's Greatest Lake at Its Best

"The many verandas at Crotto dei Platani are what you’d imagine any lakeside restaurant in Lake Como to be: They're peaceful, with a view that reminds us of a painting, and there’s a private pier for that boat you may or may not have arrived in. Foodwise, this place completely departs from the Italian dishes non-local palates are used to (pasta al pomodoro, insalata primavera), and that’s why we love it. Traditional plates are punched up with unexpected flavor combinations inspired by whatever’s growing in nature, like the black cabbage gnocchi with its welcomed bitterness. Book a table for lunch so you can watch the boats lull in the water under the sun as you sip on some Italian wine. " - anna rahmanan, bryan kim

Google
Amazing location, very elegant and beautiful restaurant. Stunning views. Outstanding service. Upscale, but with moderate prices. We had a big group and got to try several dishes from the menu. Everything was delicious, flavorful and nicely presented. Would love to come back on a warmer day and enjoy the view from their patio.

Google
This was an amazing restaurant. The food was incredible and the view overlooking the lake was stunning. It was a bit out of the way for us, but easily accessible with a car or a hired taxi (which is how we got there). I cannot recommend this place enough if you’re visiting Como!

Google

Google
Good restaurant with beautiful lake view. We've jumped in for a quick lunch alongside the road, and it was a good experience. Service is friendly and very professional. The place itself looks great, the top level. Parking is a bit small, but we were lucky to find a spot. We also were guided during entering and leaving the parking, which was very nice. Prices are high, but the food was good. Nevertheless, I would say it's not worth the money. But you pay for the location and the view.

Google
Beautiful place by the lake with an amazing view and history, the reason I won’t give it 5 stars is because I’ve ordered the fish (39 Euros dish ) and it was super over cooked and dry so I couldn’t eat it and that changed completely my experience , I know this can happen but usually in places like this besides apologies you get at least the desert on the house but they didn’t, my girlfriend’s dish was good and the antipasti was amazing

Yelp
Food was excellent and atmosphere was perfect. Great service and staff helped me plan a perfect 45th wedding anniversary by setting of the table with amazing decorations. My wife was very surprised and pleased!

Yelp
We were here in May of 2023.Beautiful restaurant, stunning views, great food and drinks, impeccable service. We made a last minute reservation for 13 people including 2 children and the staff could not have been more accommodating. My husband and I came here in 2019 and couldn't wait for the opportunity to return and bring our family. Best dinner of our stay on Lake Como.

Yelp
I would put zero if I could. Amazing food but service and staff were unsettling. When I am eating a meal, I do not want waiters coming to check on the table every five seconds checking in once in a while is great, but they were almost practically hovering over our table. Towards the end of our meal, the machine started declining when our cards were perfectly fine and working for almost a month in Italy. We then noticed as we left the restaurant that we were up charged by €20.

Yelp
The best service, view and vibe, recommend, and the food is immaculate I recommend this any day of the week.

Yelp
We stopped here on our boat tour, last minute reservation, and it was perfect for lunch. We have been on Lake Como for 3 days and it was the best meal we have had to date. It was also reasonably priced for the quality and service. We started with a mixed salad - wonderful. My wife had the fish ravioli, perfecto! My sea bass was really good with a tasty sauce. The show stopper was the fish ball appetizer. It was truly amazing. A wonderful dining experience, great service, picturesque location on the water. Five Stars!

Yelp
One of the best for ambiance in the area. After arriving late due to construction, the host graciously found me a table at 1030pm. I was greeted with a glass of champagne and simply asked to avoid any of the fresh pastas. The lake fish balls were delicious and fried to perfection, served with lightly breaded zucchini. My main course was the special- Osso Bucco over risotto. It was tasty but not great, it came out a bit too fast and the outer edges of the risotto (think about the edge of a circle) were crispy and dried out. The risotto was largely good, if a bit bland. For desert I had a good tiramisu and then they brought delicious cookies, on the house. Service was very good. Ambiance is terrific and a good meal I would try again.

Yelp
Thus far, in all the areas of Lake Como, this was the first restaurant in the area, that I was really excited for to write a review so fast. As soon as we drove in to the small parking area over looking Lake Como, you look to your right and you see a beautiful, glistening dining room, doors open, windows open to the Lake, very small, and hundreds of beautiful white lights hanging from the ceiling. The entrance to the restaurant is only part of the land we stand on, only having to walk through rod iron gates in to this magical room with all the gleaming lights, beautiful stemware set on the tables with white table clothes. Overwhelmingly gorgeous as you look out to all the openness to Lake Como back round all around you. This was the first ground level. We walked down the stairs, and as we were walking down, we looked in front of us and all you can see is the Lake which is the backdrop to the beautiful dining room below as well. There were 11 of us and we were snuggly seated right on the water, no windows, but open air overlooking the beautiful mountains of trees and homes across from the lake. Breathtaking view only pictures could describe. Our waiter Matteo, immediately came over and we discussed the wine selections. Since some of us wanted the Chianti and some of us Cabernet, he opened up 2 bottles and poured out wines individually as to our liking. There was delicious bread and breadsticks at usual in Italy on the table and we started our journey. We ordered both our appetizers and our entrees immediately, knowing that this was not going to be a rushed experience because so far, here, no one at these restaurants rush you. It is always relaxed, slow and steady as you can easily enjoy the wines and appetizers well before the entrees ever come. Here they let you relax, never a rush. I ordered the Antipasto misto di pesci del Lario, a long name as one can tell, but a lot of fresh Lake seafood, small bites, and seasoned almost like a very lite ceviche marinade. I can taste a little of each kind of fish that one would catch in Lake Como. My wife had the Ensalada di polipo marinaton al cardamom con sedono e pacimo. . In short: the most delicious Octopus Salad served with egg plant and tomato. I split that with her and she had some of my fish delicacies and they both made for a fresh, tasting, mouth watering experience of local seafoods. For our entrees, I needed to find something different besides a pasta dish, so I ordered their Ossobuco di vitellio, veal with the bone marrow bone, of course. This was served with saffron rice. The meat was so so tender and the sauce was extraordinary as it was poured over the tender brased veal. The portion was smaller than I usually get, but the most tender piece of veal. Loved sucking up that tasty bone marrow, as I always save it for last. My wife had a delicious pasta with Prawns in a Mediterranean sauce. One of our guests ordered this delicious pasta with mushrooms, mushroom sauce and thyme. There are a lot of delicious mushroom pastas here, and he mushrooms are abundantly fresh and delicious. They served roasted duck breast with cherries, delicious, outstanding rack of lamb, and beef dishes as well as the best prepared pastas in the area. For dessert, I ordered the Pineapple Lime Coconut cheesecake, and tasted better than it even sounded. We had the white chocolate mousse, a beautiful gelato assortment and my wife had the cherry tort sprinkled with powdered sugar served with vanilla ice cream on the side. The desert menu could not be resisted here. We enjoyed all this, with the most beautiful outdoor, natural lake and tree covered mountains in the world all around the openness, lit up venue. Matteo perfectly timed our meal, kept the wine flowing. Service was more than five stars here. We rarely would do this traveling, but we discussed coming back a second time. Best way to describe Crotto del Platani? Most gorgeous restaurant set on the open and mountainous Lake Como with the best service we have had and the most creative and tasty sample of great Italian cuisine. It can't get better than this.

Yelp
Great food and ambiance right on Lake Como. The service was excellent and the food was AMAZING! Especially the squid ink pasta

Yelp
Had daughter's wedding dinner tonight at Crotto. 17 adults and 3 kids. I'm not sure how any restaurant could have done any better. Service was impeccable and food was beyond description and plentiful (more than you could ever eat--took so much food home). Our servers were attentive, friendly and for a variety of reasons, had to make many accommodations on the fly. The atmosphere and scenery are the product of a great location. The service and the food are something much, much more. Congratulations Francesco! Our guests will not soon forget our treatment or your food. Bravo!!! Mark. USA

Yelp
Great location for a romantic dinner, unfortunately food is not bad but not tremendous either. Madam had pasta that looked home made and fresh, the real highlight of the dinner. What a missed opportunity to celebrate local fresh and simple Italian food, like other underdog restaurants, that crossed our path during our road trip. The menu tends to pleased international / tourists taste buds, not foodies. Waiters were buzzing around in an attempt to make you feel special or in a topnotch restaurant, imho a little too present and a bit futile. When the decor is too pleasing, the tasting experiences in is oftenly a letdown, no exception here, but no ripoff.

Yelp
Unbelievable spot. Breathtaking location on the water of Lake Como, friendly service, local cuisine showing off creativity and deserved confidence. I recommend the potato truffle soup and fish with water asparagus. It feels like a secret spot, magic. We were able to arrive by boat and dock.
