"Right on the seafront in front of Tavolara Island, a simple restaurant run by an experienced couple. The kitchen exalts the best fish in the area with a modern taste, offered with a wide selection including some raw (such as red tuna tartare with cucumber and raspberries) and the catch of the day grilled, baked or in salt. In the summer, reservations are highly recommended because the scenic outdoor seating area, although large, is extremely popular!" - Michelin Inspector

I don’t give 5 stars lightly, but Ristorante Il Portolano absolutely earned every single one. I visited twice during my trip to Sardinia—and yes, that’s because I had to go back for more of their food. The first time was unforgettable; the second? Even better. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us like family—warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they serve. No pushy upselling, just sincere hospitality that made us feel right at home. And the food? Pure magic. Every dish tasted like it was crafted with love, fresh local ingredients, and generations of tradition. The seafood was melt-in-your-mouth perfection, the pasta was al dente heaven, and the homemade desserts? I still dream about them. But let’s talk about the view—oh my goodness, the view. Perched right over the water, watching the sun dip below the horizon while sipping local wine and savoring each bite… it wasn’t just dinner. It was a soul-stirring experience. I’ve eaten at dozens of restaurants across Italy, but Il Portolano stands out as one of the very best. If you’re in Sardinia, do yourself a favor: book a table here. Go once, and you’ll be back—just like me. I’m already planning my next trip just so I can return. Nonna would approve. 🇮🇹❤️

It is a beach-front restaurant and has a really nice view and ambience. The service was exceptional. The only thing is that prices are a bit above the average and the portions of the starters were quite small which makes you feel like your are joining a food-testing event not having a dinner 😄

We took dinner at this restaurant and the food tasted delicious. The atmosphere was also great with a nice view at the Tavolara Island. A little bit annoying was the fact that there were some small insects and my husband and my daughter were bitten by them, so they had quite a big problem with that (be aware to take a spray if you are delicious for insects). The food tasted really good, but not wow, as if you would expect from a restaurant with a Michelin star nomination. The prices are a little bit higher than the medium, as the portions are a little bit small (for me there were ok). The dessert was good, but nothing special. The staff was a little bit too slow, so being with a child that was a little problem for us. Especially there was a waiter that knew very little English and made the things very slow and unprofessional. It is possible he was in the process of learning. Still, The overall impression was good and I would recommend this restaurant.

Food was quite good. The fish was not the best, though I had high hopes for it. The fried poached egg was delicious. The intense tomato sauce was sublime, not much as the octopus tbh. Outside and close to the lights of the place many insects nearby. Take that into account. The terrace / patio was beautiful, with an amazing view. Pistachio ice cream was Delicious, so the lemon and honey dessert. If you are planing to go during summer high season, maybe book a table in advance. Ps. Their olive oil was amazing

Google
A good option for lunch or dinner in this area. It’s in a cute seaside area with views of Tavolara island. The service is formal and pleasant. The food is good - fresh products and fish and a unique combination of ingredients for something a bit different.

The owner is a swiss lady who has been living in Italy long time and she took care of every table to give you a personalized experience. She did the same for us. We let the team to recommend us the dishes and all of them were great from starters to main dishes and the deserts. They 💯% deserve the Michelin selection title even can be a Michelin gourmet restaurant.

We really had high hopes regarding this restaurant hence being once back in 2020 a Michelin starred one but unfortunately it was a complete failure for us.We called on Tuesday to book for the upcoming Saturday and they completely misplaced our reservation. It was not fully booked, mid May being not yet full season in Sardegna. We had a table on terrace with sea view, lovely indeed but the food was not acceptable at all. We had shrimps for starters and tagliolini with pesto sauce and pistacchio, both have been OK! But the main corse, slow cooked amberjack with broccoli and apple chutney + some vinegar sauce have been really awful and it costs 32Euro which is way too much for such a disappointing dish.We had whole grain pasta with limone confit, almond flakes and asparagus which we didn’t finish because we just couldn’t. Having travelled the world, one thinks Michelin starred restaurant should do more when asking 20/30 plus Euros for a dish which doesn’t taste right and isn’t well balanced!

Yelp
We had a fantastic meal at this cozy waterfront restaurant serving Sardinian classics with inventive twists. Located just steps from the sea with waterfront breezes this place exudes charm and understated elegance. While the menu seems familiar with other spots the little flourishes elevate the experience. We started with a divine connolo-like a canolli but a savory crust filled with a light and creamy goat cheese served with amazingly flavorful tiny tomatoes-simple but divine. Their curlighones, another classic, were served grilled with a minty pesto but the absolute pinnacle was the fish. We were two couples and we each got the sea bass (for 2) one Mediterranean style (oven roasted with oil, herbs, tomatoes and potatoes) and the other baked in a salt crust. Each was beautifully served table side with the fish deboned and plated. Melt in your mouth good! The ample wine list features dozens of local options all at great prices. A must go.

Yelp
Excellent sea-side Restaurant in Port San Paolo (not la taverna). Nice atmosphere and view of la Tavalera. Prices are reasonable.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! Roberto and his wife are so welcoming, and the food is to die for. The octopus salad is perfectly cooked and all the ingredients are super fresh!
