La Veranda

"Situated a few metres from the lake in the centre of the village, this welcoming and long-established family restaurant boasts a dining room that transforms into a veranda with outdoor dining in summer. The cuisine here is traditional, with generous portions of fish from the lake and sea." - Michelin Inspector

An absolutely beautiful meal by the water in Moltrasio. If you’re considering where to eat in Moltrasio, go here; you won’t regret it! It deserves its Michelin recommendation. We travel a lot and we love having local food wherever we go, so we had the Lake Como white fish two ways and local bresaola, housemade meat ravioli with pine-nut sauce and spaghetti amitriciana, and both the wild boar and local lake fish with fried sage and butter (the latter came with tiny butter-caramelized carrots that were among the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life). The food was fresh, homemade and delicious, every single course. We finished with delightful gelato. Four courses for two people, plus a glass of wine each, came out to under €150 in total. The food is exceptional regardless, but it’s also excellent value for money. The restaurant is family-run and has been in operation for almost 100 years, since 1932. We are Canadian and speak no Italian at all, only English and French, and the staff were delightfully kind and welcoming regardless; their English is excellent. We are staying nearby and found this place just by walking by… we stopped in around 3:30 pm to make a reservation for 7:30, when they open for dinner. When we came back for dinner, they welcomed us and gave us the best table in the whole place, with a good view of the lake (and the small lake-ferry terminal). I hope this restaurant is still around in another hundred years. It’s exactly the kind of local gem everyone dreams of finding on their trip to Italy… and now you’ve found it!

The sea bass and tiramisu are very nice. The sauce for sea bass has rich and layering flavour which I like it very much and the sea bass is well cooked. Bitterness and sweetness of the tiramisu are well balanced. Very recommend. And the lady staff is friendly!

We are an older couple. We stayed at the hotel where the restaurant is located and on the first night we approached there with trepidation, given the disappointment of restaurants in other hotels. Fortunately for us, the restaurant is simply excellent. We had two dinners there and everything we ate was excellent - the pasta with cherry tomato sauce, the fish with Mediterranean sauce, the fish with mushrooms, the desserts, everything was simply excellent. We sat on the pleasant enclosed terrace, the waiter was smiling, professional and courteous. In short, we highly recommend it.

The food was excellent and the pasta seems handmade in house. Family owned and run, super friendly management. Even the simple pasta with tomato sauce for the kids was delicious and the kids finished their plates without complaining!

Started with the brilliant pumpkin cream soup with butter, grilled shrimp and sage. Wow. Shared several dishes; Spaghetti with jowl bacon in spicy tomato sauce (excellent), Tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms (fantastic), turbot fillets with artichokes (very good) polenta with sautéed porcini mushrooms (again fantastic). No room for dessert, will have to return!

Yelp
On our last night in Moltrasio, we walked from our hotel over to La Veranda for one last supper. We were seated right away, ordered wine, and started through the menu. We all settled on our first and second course and our server was promptly at the table to take our order. Mr. Bee ordered the Meat Ravioli in a cream sauce to start and it was excellent. The ravioli were perfectly cooked, and the filling was tender, and flavorful. I started with Paccheri, a wide pasta noodle like a rigatoni, but smooth and larger. The sauce was a roasted cherry tomato sauce with a basil olive oil drizzle. It was incredible. Italians certainly know how to make and cook pasta to perfection. For our second course, Mr. Bee had Veal Cheeks over Polenta. He loved every bite. I ordered a Filet of Beef and on the side was Polenta, and grilled baby artichokes. Both were delicious. The filet could have been a bit more tender, but it had a rich beefy flavor. It was the perfect end to an amazing trip.

Yelp
For each of three years I have stayed here for a week or so. I often describe it as my favourite hotel in the world. It is not pretentious or fancy, but somehow everything comes out in elegant balance and grace -- the views, the food, the ease, and, above all, the skill, caring and kindness of the professional staff.

Yelp
We were staying in Moltrasio for 3 nites and our favorite restaurant, del Fagiano, was closed on the 2nd nite, so we drove down to the lake front & found La Veranda. It's in a small family hotel La Posta. Casual dining in a warm & comfortable setting. The food, wine & service was excellent.

Yelp
The food and service at this restaurant were excellent. We each had an individual pasta first course and choose to share the salt baked fish selection for two. They presented the whole baked fish to us before breaking the salt crust and serving us individual portions tableside. You would think fish prepared in this manner would taste salty, but that is not the case at all. The fish was moist and very flavorful. The freshly roasted vegetables accompanying the fish were perfectly cooked with a very light touch of olive oil salt pepper and lemon. Everything blended well together and we left nothing on our plates. We shared a tiramisu for dessert that was light and freshly made which was also excellent. We shared a bottle of prosecco from the modest but more than an adequate wine list and finished with a digestif. Dinner service was attentive and relaxed even though the restaurant was fully occupied that evening. One of our most enjoyable dinning experiences during our four night stay in Como.
