The 16 Best Breakfast Spots In Philly

"A trip to the Northeast’s Ritz Diner will result in some top-tier home fries and plenty of all-day breakfast options. If you can drag yourself past the cake displays, one of our favorite dishes here is the eggs benedict. The eggs are always firm with a perfectly gooey center, and come served over crispy Canadian bacon and home fries. Whether you order the fluffy pancakes or steak and eggs, once you’re tucked into a leather booth you’ll be glad you took the trip up the boulevard to eat here." - candis mclean, alison kessler

The 20 Best Spots In Northeast Philly

"Sure, diners are sprinkled all over the city, but everyone knows their official turf is the Northeast. This diner isn’t just a good diner—it’s the place to be every weekday and weekend morning. At Ritz, you’re in for some top-tier home fries and a great all-day breakfast. One of our favorite dishes is the eggs benedict. Ritz Diner - Review - Northeast Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"I’m from New Jersey. The Jersey Shore and diners, that’s what we do. So if I say to head down the boulevard (without getting a ticket) to the Ritz Diner, just know you’re gonna get some top-tier home fries and all-day breakfast. One of my favorite dishes to get here is the eggs benedict. The eggs are always firm yet maintain their gooey center, and come served over crispy Canadian bacon and home fries that are light but not so soft that you think you’re eating fried mash potatoes." - Candis R. First time here. I didn’t really liking my breakfast. I didn’t even eat half. The veggie omelet wasn’t great. My home fries were not hot. My husband liked his French toast his coffee wasn’t hot. The service was just okay. The food took way too long for breakfast and it wasn’t crowded.

Google
This place is 😉👌💯! The portion sizes are great, the service is par excellence (ask for Jacob, he's the best!) and the food arrives super fast. Again, portion sizes are huge, so come here starving. The Broiled Lump Crab Cakes are incredible, so if that is your thing, be sure to try them. Oh, and before I forget to tell you, the menu is "dizzying" with selection. It'll be difficult to decide, but there is something for anyone and everyone here. Five stars hands down! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Google
There is no wait time. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming. The servers are so attentive and helpful. The grits and fish are to die for. The crab cakes are tasty and huge. I recommend this establishment to everyone of all ages.

Google
My husband and I went here for breakfast. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The food was very bad. The grits was so cold and tasteless that the cheese could not melt. Everything lacked taste.

Google
I did not like the food or service here. I can’t remember the servers name.. Brenda? Danielle? Anyway very abrasive and somewhat rude. They only had chicken noodle soup that had no chicken in it. The food came out kind of fast but was not hot. They messed up one order and completely forgot another order. The server didn’t even ask us how we wanted to pay the bill. She just gave us one bill for both tables. Probably won’t be back. They did have a large menu selection but the food tasted old.

It was our first time checking out the Ritz diner tonight. I ordered an omelette and some home fries with a side of French toast. I also asked for a bagel with butter. Everything came out hot and the food was delicious. The omelette was ginormous and packed with fresh mushrooms, peppers, ham and cheese. The French toast was puffy, fluffy and had just the right amount of toast/crisp. My wife ordered the fried flounder and said it was delicious and she’d order the same thing tomorrow if we came back. Inside the diner is very bright, clean and they have several TVs with various shows on. Every person in the diner was nice. Our waitress Sharon was excellent and attentive. She always noticed when our drinks were getting low and was quick with a refill. Overall we had a great food and experience. We will 100% be back.

Google
The atmosphere was nice, everything was clean and staff was friendly. Our server was very friendly , seemed a little overwhelmed and forgetful with some things. She was apologetic on her end and while I do understand the life of a server as I did that when I was younger. We did still leave her a great tip. It seems since Covid businesses lack employees and those working are left to deal with the stresses of everyday, business operations. We had a plain omelette, has browns that looked like sliced potatoes thrown on a plate. Both were cold, bacon was fatty and gross. Coffee was good!! French toast was disappointing as it lacked the flavor of that vanilla and just tasted like bread thrown in milk and egg batter and fried with old grease. It was a dissatisfying experience and we will never be returning there.

Google
We were super impressed with the quantity of food served. The service was good and their attention to detail was even better. Restaurants miss a lot of targets with their checklists; this restaurant, however, does not. Much appreciation to management and the people who help make this place a wonderful place to visit.

Yelp
This place was so cute, food was super affordable! Me and a friend went here for a nice breakfast and it was so great. Service was relatively quick and our waitress Connie was a sweetheart! Definitely a great place for a casual meal.

Yelp
We were satisfied with the food we ordered and received, however, it was the food we ordered and didn't receive that was the issue here at The Ritz.  The restaurant was a good size, and on the day we dined, it was also a Sunday morning holiday.  The gentleman who greeted us at the entrance was so sweet and welcoming.  Nice decor, comfortable seating in a booth, huge menu ~ breakfast all day is always a bonus. A couple of orders for the club sandwiches seemed like a definite win.  Both the turkey and chicken salad  looked and tasted fresh .  Two breakfast orders arrived incomplete.  A little disappointing....and made even more so by not being asked if a coffee  or beverage refill was wanted.   The eggs were made to order perfectly but unfortunately I cannot comment on the breakfast sausage and toast that went missing in action.  We would definitely return for another try.

Yelp
Ritz Diner is a great place to have a good breakfast. I've always enjoyed coming here and being immediately greeted by a friendly smile. The restaurant is spacious, always clean, and never full where you have to wait to be seated/served. The food tastes great, my omelet was so cheesy. I LOVED IT! Our server, Connie, was a sweetheart- I didn't have to ask for anything extra because she was on it. More coffee? She was ready to pour more. It's so great knowing that this place is around the corner for me.

Monica M.

Yelp
Food is the best. Friendly staff and the place is kept clean. The salad bar is one of the best in the area. Love the chicken parm. is my favorite. And the cup of soup starts every meal perfectly.

Yelp
First and foremost, me and hubby want to do a SHOUT-OUT to Sarahjean. She was on-point and exact as hell! Like we didn't have to ask for re-fills, she brings the drinks out before we even have the chance of letting her know. She doesn't over-do it or ignore you. She was exact, I don't know how she do it but her service is definitely exceptional!!! We started with Mozzarella sticks and Chicken Bow Tie soup. Both were very delicious. The breading of the Mozzarella sticks seems like seasoned. The Chicken Bow Tie soup weren't overly salty, it was just right. Hubby play it safe by ordering Cheeseburger, which he likes alot. While I order the Broiled Seafood with Lobster. The entree is huge, my hubby regret ordering his burger he wanted mine instead lol. I can only finish half of that entree, definitely worth the $30. We want to try desserts but we were so stuffed, so we said next time.

Yelp
At the corner of Roosevelt Blvd & Rhawn St, where once an old Wawa stood, you will find The Ritz Diner. A family owned and operated traditional diner. As regulars here, the Ritz has become a staple for a pressure free, affordable, consistent meal any time of day. Waitstaff works as a team and help one another as needed. Additionally it has been primarily the same for over the years we have come here; loyal employees with low turnover. Now Ritz is a diner so, don't expect Michelin star food - do expect lots of options, large portions, service with a smile and affordable pricing. The place fills up quick on the weekends and the parking lot can get sometime chaotic but when the urge to not cook sets in don't overlook the Ritz.

Yelp
My son and I went for dinner last night because I didn't get around to cooking and we were hungry. I like this place because they have a salad bar and everything in the salad bar seems to be pretty fresh and I love salad bars. I ordered the stuffed flounder with two baked potatoes and my son got one of his usuals which is just a short stack with bacon. The plan was for my son to eat one of the baked potatoes but they were so big we shared one and I have one leftover for tonight. I'm so glad they've improved from my first experience. I think sometimes the waitstaff can be hit or miss but last night we liked our waitress, wish I remembered her name

Yelp
Came here for lunch the other day. Service was good, but food was very bland. Seemed like it was definitely catered to a much older population. Nothing was salted. Ordered cream of broccoli soup... it was so tasteless. Barely tested broccoli... we added a ton of salt and pepper to give it some kind of flavor, but it didnt help much. I ordered California burger and fries... no salt/seasoning on fries and sadly 0 flavor again. My 9 year old ordered a kids burger and they charged us for an adult burger! Didn't even give him the pickle and Cole slaw for the adult burger we were charged for. Overall left dissapointed this time around. I have eaten here before and enjoyed their chicken parm although sizing is inconsistent and you do run into bland food often.

Yelp
Don't ask for separate checks - this has disrupted their day. They wasted 20 minutes of MY time and were completely rude and disrespectful. We should have just left the damn diner. Do what customers ask the FIRST time.

John G.

Yelp
Food is great and the waitress Brianna was very respectful and so patient give her a raise

Patrick E.

Yelp
Was there yesterday and had Kerry as our server. I had to ask for straws, napkins, utensils, and the final blow was when I wanted a refill and she was no where to be found for at least 15 20 minutes. I finally got fed up and got up and another server was nice enough to fill me up. Don't recommend asking for Kerry when your there she kind of made us feel like we were an inconvenience. I'll consider other diners next time I'm in the area. The food was good tho. Service needs work.

Yelp
It's a pretty good diner with pretty good food. The staff are nice and helpful and when you want breakfast food anytime of day or night, this is the place!

Yelp
Went for brunch the other day with family and we all enjoyed our meals. Our waitress was very nice and helpful, too. My BLT Club with added Egg was delicious and so plentiful! The fries were hot, too! My great niece had a great time with the waffles and ice cream and her scrapple! Such a Philly kid! Lol! It's one of my family's go to spots for breakfast on the weekends and this time I got to go with them. It's been awhile since I have been there but I have always left happy the times I have gone there in the past. Check it out!

Yelp
Ritz Diner at the intersection of Roosevelt Blvd and Rhawn, is a fairly typical roadside diner in Northeast Philadelphia. Its menu is likewise standard fare, with a full page of breakfast possibilities on the back. That's what I was there for, and it only took a minute to decide I wanted their Ritz Omelet (onion, green pepper, tomato and hot Italian sausage), with Rye Toast and bottomless mug of Java. Service was very good and it was beautifully presented within minutes of ordering. First observation was that it looked to be a three egger with filling enough for a smaller shell. Its pants were too big for its body, as both ends were a couple inches of egg without anything within. It tasted fine although the heat from the sausage failed to materialize very often. It was still enough for me, especially with the well buttered toast and refills of coffee brought to me by my friendly server. So, I am not complaining, but only making an observation, and suggestion that if I was aware of this imbalance, others would be too, and perhaps adjustments should be made. Didn't see much in the way of in-house bakery goods, nor a bar, nor even a traditional counter with spinners for the solitary traveler. Adequate parking in front.

Yelp
I came in today for a burger but I got perfection. My cheeseburger had cheese, red onions, lettuce, thick tomato, side of coleslaw and a pickle. Sorry guys for not posting a pic but I ate it so fast. I almost forgot to mention the seafood bisque it came with but it was amazing as well. How did I forget but I ate it so fast. Lol This restaurant is a mix of everyone, young, old and families. My new favorite place.

Yelp
Back in November of 2019, I flew back to Philly to spend Thanksgiving with my family. On the last full day of my trip, my Uncle and Aunt decided to take me out for a nice breakfast at one of their favorite places which excited me because this girl lives for a good breakfast and it did not disappoint! It gave me Denny's and Norm's (LA 24 hr) vibes of old school, down home basic all American food. Both my Aunt and I got our orders mixed up (wrong) and our waitress was so apologetic and sincere (especially after a long wait to be served although the restaurant was not busy- you could tell they have their older regulars).....but because the food was so good and fulfilling we decided to keep our orders received. My hashbrowns were brown and crispy, my sausage was on point and my omelette was nice and cheesy! GOOD JOB!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite diners! They have the best breakfast items! The eggs, home fries, french toast and waffles are so yummy! Ive only had their breakfast and their pies but they are so tasty and fresh! I had the lemon meringue pie and the key lime pie and they were so sweet and decadent. The staff are really great and friendly.

William I.

Yelp
Actually, soda refills are given at other diners. Silk City Diner on Spring Garden St. in Center City refilled my coke at no cost last Sunday. Still, the Ritz is the place to go for good food at reasonable prices. And you get the salad bar with entrees. Can't beat that.

Vanessa H.

Yelp
My Sister/Best Friend and I were here this morning. The ambiance & service were great. The food was delicious and the Pepsi with ice was so nice and cold and refreshing. I highly recommend!!!!!!

Yelp
I love and appreciate the Ritz Diner for the simple fact that it used to be a Wawa. Located on the corner of Rhawn Street and the boulevard, it has become one of my favorite diners in Northeast Philadelphia. Parking in the lot is scarce, especially on weekends in the morning. Sometimes parking on a side street may be your best bet. We walked in around 9:45am on a Sunday expecting a wait, but we were seated right away. Our waitress came over promptly and greeted us and asked if we wanted coffee to start. Our waitress was wonderful, although, I regret not getting her name. Very friendly young lady. I ordered the Eggs Benedict without the Canadian bacon with a side of home fries. The home fries were like crispy mashed potatoes. Not my favorite style home fries, but still pretty decent. My boyfriend ordered the Western omelette. It came with the same home fries, but the omelettes are nicely sized at the Ritz. And the whole menu is cheap! For the two of us, it was about $25. I've always enjoyed myself at the Ritz and I will most certainly be back.

Jon M.

Yelp
Just had a bowl of salt with sone French onion soup on it large croutons and mozzarella (if you know you know)....followed by cold mash potatoes and mushy broccolioh and thanks for that well done London broil that i ordered medium....why even ask. Place was empty so I don't get the long wait time either. Oh yeah, the well done meat I forgot.

Maryann H.

Yelp
I love going to the Ritz diner. The food is always so great. The waitress is so nice and friendly and very helpful with selection. Prices are very good. The seafood bisque soup is great. I take all my friends there and they love it. They also recommend the diner to their friends and family. The ambiance is great and I have never seen an unhappy customer. I appreciate having a tv to watch while I am eating.

Yelp
Regardless of any negative remarks, my family and I have been here on numerous occasions and have never had a bad meal. Tonight was the ultimate test. I got the steak trio which included a 12oz ribeye, stuffed mushroom and a stuffed shrimp. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and the seafood was delicious! I usually never order a steak at a diner for obvious reasons but I decided to try it. For the first time I was pleasantly surprised! It's a good stop and I highly recommend the Ritz!

David N.

Yelp
Great lox and onion omelette. Huge! Fresh fruit salad was perfect. Fresh like summer. My waitress was funny and nice. This is my old neighborhood but I've never seen this place before. It was a wawa back in the day. I wish this place would have even here 40 years ago.

Carl T.

Yelp
Great place to have a meal! Breakfast is awesome. They have a large menu of items, so lunch and dinner are easy. The service is very good and the meals are delicious. I go there a few times a month and enjoy my time there.

Sherman G.

Yelp
Was told by the woman on the phone hun don't call for cake orders to busy for that and then she hung the phone up. This was for a ill friend who asked for there cheese cake specifically. I felt so disrespected. I was a regular I will no longer buy from them

Stephen H.

Yelp
I always have a good experience at the Ritz. I take friends there and also meet friends there. Breakfast is always good with plenty to eat. The salad bar is always fresh and with all the necessary ingredients. I also think the wait staff does as good a job as anywhere. I highly recommend.

Yelp
This place is great!! Good service good food and very reasonable prices!! We visit from Florida where there are not many diners maybe one or two so coming here we like to go to one and this one is my favorite!! Service is great!! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
This diner feels Covid19 safe when you enter. service was prompt and friendly. The menu offers a discounted senior citizen menu. I ordered the turkey dinner. It came with a really nice garden salad or a choice of soup. While the salad impressed, with fresh spinach, Romaine and iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomato and ,green pepper, the turkey dinner was standard diner fare, with what looked like cold cut turkey slathered with yellow gravy. Not impressive. The spinach tasted like it came out of a can. I couldn't eat it. I will say that the portions are huge. I went there for a meeting. I'd go back for coffee but not for dinner. And I'd give the breakfast.menu a try
google avatar

Stephen B.

Yelp
As a new Diner.... I was impressed with the food the service and the atmosphere. Yes the reviews on Yelp are not so promising by others. but I had no issues. I ordered the creamed chipped beef special on white toast with home fries. The food came out in about 5 minutes. it was nice and hot. The home fries were done just right. And the coffee was actually very good. Waitress was great always came back to the table to see if I needed anything. filled up my coffee cup with more coffee. The only major issue I have is parking is very limited. so be prepared to park around the corner and walk a little bit sometimes. There actually is a guy that works at the Diner. that sits outside on a chair and makes sure that anyone that is parking in the lot of the Diner. is actually going to eat there and not park and walk some where esle. I would definitely come back again for breakfast or even lunch....

Yelp
First time visit. Went on Saturday, wasn't crowded I will attribute to covid I guess first off ,ick ...dirty ladies room .no paper in one stall ,used toliet paper all over another stalls floor .Hand dryer didn't work ..Am I picky and overly critical ,no ..I used the ladies room twice ,before our meal ,and after ;a span of at least thirty minutes I was surprised at the size of the breakfast platters, lots of food good stuff, a side plate of hash browns, overflowing . We were a party of four, two kids, two adults. I asked repeatedly for napkins, to supplement the four that were left at the table. I use more than 4 napkins I'm a slob, and we had the kids so ..... finally I just gave up and used the baby wipes that were in my purse. Shouldn't be that way I ordered the matzo ball soup and it was delicious probably the best I've ever had in a diner. If we ever were to go back it would be just for the soup.... The kids had standard kids meals, good stuff not outstanding but certainly they liked it ... it would have a higher rating here is someone cleaned up the bathroom ,slow day ,but even if it wasn't that should be cleaned up ....ugh
google avatar

Debbie B.

Yelp
First visit, parking lot extremely tight and full. We had breakfast....... not bad at all! Food was good and plenty. For five stars, I must visit a couple more times at different times of the day, stay tuned! One other thing, I notice a lot of places put cheese on top of the scrambled eggs instead of mixing it in the eggs......hmmmmm

Yelp
The family diner experience we recently had at the Ritz was, sadly, horrible. My son found 2 long strands of hair inside of his cheeseburger and the fries had a strange "milky" taste. When we got replacement fries, they must of just refried those that were already served to us because they were brought back saturated in grease with a dark coloration. The salad I had wasn't fresh and the chicken they used had a lot of gristle. My husband and son came home with a stomach ache.

Anya S.

Yelp
Their food is good. I especially like the fact that they will make substitutions since I eat low carb. I have not been here or elsewhere in a few months though bc I found I love cooking my own food at home better.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is dry and cold. TERRIBLE!! Don't eat here! Customer service is non existent. HORRIBLE!!

Yelp
We had a not so great experience at the Ritz Diner the other day. We waited for about 20 minutes to be seated, no big deal it was pretty crowded. When we were seated it took about 10 minutes to get water, 20 more minutes to have our order taken and about 40 minutes more to actually start eating. I can honestly say it wasn't our waitress' fault, she was actually running. I think they may be understaffed. The first thing that came to our table was our appatizers. My daughter ordered fruit salad and I ordered the crabcakes. She didn't eat half of the fruit salad, she said it was mushy, I checked, it was. The crabcakes were absolutely phenomenal. I thought that the long wait might have been worth it. I was wrong. When I got my chopped steak, the first bite was bland. It had zero taste. When I got to around my third bite, I smelled it. The meat was not fresh it was borderline rotten. I didnt take another bite. My Daugter ordered a Buffalo chicken panini. She didnt like it. I took a bite, it was flavorless as well. We left a lot of food and the waitress never asked if everything was ok. I guess she knew by the amount of food we left, it was not. I didn't say anything. There are too many diners around. You get one shot to impress me, if you fail I never come back. I heard this place was great so I had to check it out for myself. I most likely will never be back. Go and check it out if you want.

Yelp
They closed a Wawa right near my store months ago and lucky me another new restaurant, fuck ya. Score. Be still my heart a new diner that's well rounded in the menu department. Grand opening me and my buddy grab take out, love its only a 90 second walk from my store, we had lunch. The soup was no bad and not the usual broth for matzo ball soup but it was decent. My ball was a little on the hard side but good flavor none the less. Now onto the meat, well seared and good flavor bacon & cheese abundant. The roasted pepper was a nice surprise and the bun was better than I expected. The fries lacked the salt out of the fryer dosing it needs. Meh. So far happy it opened and excited to try more items.

Yelp
Last night my wife son and I are here and I must admit the service could have been better. However my problem was the food. I ordered veal parmesan, and it was horrible! The marina was had decent flavor, not the linguini was under cooked, and the meat was obviously was low grade flank steak, which they tried to pass as veal. I chew on the meat for 30 minutes before I just gave up on the whole meal. They could have easily said we don't have veal rather than try to fool me with flank steak
google avatar

Michele Mimi L.

Yelp
Sitting here around 3p. Menu had lunch specials with no times on it and it was a paper inside the regular menu. Ordered from that menu. Waitress came back and said lunch specials ended at 3. No times on menu so asked her to check. The owners daughter is here and refused. Gave me menu to pick something else and showed her paper with no times. Went back to the daughter but she still refused Guess she has no customer service background. Lose customers, bad reviews just for a not being nice. Oh well, hopefully the owner will see this UPDATE Interesting how the owner never responded! Your loss.

Yelp
This diner has pretty good food. I love their chicken AND eggplant parmesan (both in the same dish!) The salad bar is smallish, but not bad. The soups and breads aren't as good as at Four Seasons (my favorite local diner), but this place is pretty solid.

Felicia T.

Yelp
my daughter is bed ridden and I ordered thru door dash who screwed up - the restaurant knew I couldn't pick up the order that door dash forgot and they sent someone and dropped it off so my kid could have thanksgiving - i am beyond grateful to them

Yelp
I come here pretty regular. Food is always good no issues . Servers are really attentive

Yelp
Lunch was great...until my dad found a rubber glove in his cole slaw...how does that even happen??? Only giving 3 stars because the staff were really nice about it and waived our bill...but seriously- how does this happen???

Yelp
Food came out quickly to my surprise. Unfortunately it looks like half of it was pre made. Pancakes were hard on the outside and dry and stale on the inside. The potatoes had definitely been pre sliced. They were just cooked but smelled of a bitter rancid stench. Taste like someone poured vinegar on them. Looks like they had been sliced and sitting in a container for a week. As we left the place, we ask to speak to the manager. I was told by the front counter girl that he was too busy right now. I guess too busy for the customer! I just wanted to give him my input, no discount or anything. Place looks nice, they could really turn it around if they cooked fresh items. Prices are great IF the food was any good.

Yelp
Best egg Benedict I've had! Very flavorful and nice presentation. The overall plate was HUGE lots of home fries that I couldn't finish in one sitting. The service is impeccable, Johnnie was very attentive and made sure I was satisfied every step of the way. The establishment is clean and actually pretty unlike most of the diners that I have been to. I definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Yelp
LOVE THIS JOINT Best diner in the city to go to after 3AM while coming off 10-12 hours of intense drinking. Get the Turkey Rachel then thank me later.
