After going to this Riva for the last 6 years I think we’re done with them. 60% of the time they get my order completely wrong. There’s 4 ingredients to my order: meat, rice, cheese, sour cream. Yet somehow that is the most complicated order in all of the land and they seem to screw it up more often than not. And for over $30 for two burritos that’s just simply unacceptable. Here’s last nights order, wrong again smh quality has absolutely gone downhill. Here’s a photo of my meat log burrito 👎🏼

Most of the time the food is great. I believe the secret to getting really good food here, is to avoid the chicken dishes. Unless you enjoy dry flavorless chicken. The beef items and Chorizo is really good!

Google
My shrimp burrito actually has shrimp in it! Packed w/ flavor, absolutely no disappointment there! The Al Pastro nachos are out of this world! The asada fries are always good too! They've gotten much better over the yrs! So glad they're there for a real enjoyment of food!

The prices keep going up and the food keeps getting smaller and the quality keeps going down. God forbid you ask for more than one salsa, the guy at the drive thru window acts like you insulted his mother and tells you it's in the bag. I thanked him and asked for more than one, he got so bothered by the request. I just spent almost $13 on a single burrito, I think I can get more than one tiny thing of salsa that taste old.

Past few times I have came through the drive thru, the employee working the window was super short and borderline rude. Shut the window in my face before I could ask for some limes. Today I used the drive thru and they told me it was going to be a while before they could take my order due to counting the register. No big deal, I order online for pick up. I ordered a California burrito and added beans rice and sour cream and I got a plain California burrito. Seems like the quality of customer service is on a steady decline.

Google
It was ok. Typical cheap Mexican food. Portions were nice though and the beans were good. Ingredients could have been better and onions and peppers could have been grilled longer to have some flavor in them (they were a bit raw). Staff was friendly though.

I normally love eating at this place. Ive seen all the negative reviews and never experienced those things until last night! My boyfriend ordered our food through the online order on their website. After getting off work I go to picked up the order. I first go through the drive thru and the guy at the window said "we don't have that order are you door dash"? I replied "no"and i showed him the screen shot of the order .He takes my phone to look at it and says "no, no we don't have that order." I call my boyfriend he calls them they tell him yah it will be ready in 15 min mind you the order was placed at 550 and said it would be ready at 620 at this time it's already 645. I wait 15 min in my car go inside the guy with glasses from the drive thru window again tell me there's no order. I tell him my boyfriend just called you guys and you told him 15 mins why don't you have my order. The guy then goes around the counter asked to see my order again which he then grabs my phone to look. He then grabs an order pad to write down the order im like are you serious you gotta make the food it's not ready? At this time I'm very frustrated because our food was 80$ and they already charged the credit card. I then requested for a refund he said that they don't have cash and he would have to get ahold of a manager he tells me to wait so I sit down. He then comes back to me to tell me the tablet isnt working so that's why they didn't have my order. Another lady comes in and had order online and her food was ready so which was it? Not even 5 mins later they're handing me my order! Our food was thrown together like slop in a pig pen.My boyfriend calls again to talk to a manager and the guy that was doing the drive through with glasses told him he was the owners son. He says I refused to show him my order which was a lie! I will not go back to an establishment that lies to their customers. If the owner has his family members working there good luck keep business will be calling to make a complaint!!!

Google
Got the nachos 2 times now at this place and both times they tasted boring and unsatisfying. Rivas doesn’t know how to make Mexican food. There’s like no flavor in their food. Skip this place, actually skip every place in Carson that serves Mexican. They all stink.
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
Not impressed by anything about this visit. First thing through the door instead of a greeting or welcome was the cashier barking at us that it was cash only. That should have been the sign to just leave. We ordered, paid cash which was rounded off, and surprise surprise... no receipt. The food was greasy, very greasy. No ambiance, music, or anything worth going back for.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
They made my order right by mending the service previous the last! Got to respect them for that. Food is okay though if you are hungry. Wish there was good Mexican restaurants herein Carson City but my plight to find one is met with horrible results.
google avatar

Spencer C.

Yelp
This place always hits the spot! I love good and greasy Mexican food. I grew up with it. This location is small and conveniently located. Has comfortable outdoor seating to eat when the weather is nice. The burritos here are massive and loaded with your choice of protein. They don't skimp here. I like to switch between pastor and steak depending on the mood. Service is always friendly and this place can get pretty busy. I can't wait to go back.

Skiw J.

Yelp
Avoid dinner. Asada fries are a soggy mess and street tacos are 4.75 each. I normally come here for quick breakfast, but quality has been going down. Will never come back for dinner
google avatar

Kris s.

Yelp
Really good and quick delivery. They skimp on nothing! I'm a fan of the crisp and street style tacos, Chile rellanos, and my daughter loves the quesadillas. Great homemade salsas. Great value too
google avatar

R. V.

Yelp
Great food, especially the burritos, but is a little pricey. The other plates look good, but I am not willing to pay $14 to $15 for it
google avatar

Katie K.

Yelp
Consistent, fast service, solid, good food. Tried the hard shell tacos for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Also, I've apparently been sleeping on their nachos because DAMN those are awesome and a seriously large portion size. Ordered: beef hard shell taco and al pastor nachos - definitely would and will order again.
google avatar

Brady S.

Yelp
The Chorizo Breakfast Burrito is fire. Not long wait time. You get to hear them cook and it very nice. Definitely recommend going to.

Laura F.

Yelp
This place has totally gone downhill! No cheese in your cheese, quesadilla. Don't order onions on it, you won't get them. Total crap 3 times in a row
google avatar

Joshua G.

Yelp
if I could give it zero stars I would have they close early but don't update the times online and are extremely rude when you ask them why they are closing 20 min early
google avatar

Jamie E.

Yelp
I would actually like to retract my 3 stars and I would actually like to give them a 5 but I cant because the rice and beans are off par and I still don't agree with the guacamole - but the tacos actually slap. They're pretty amazing. I wish I took a pic when I got the door dash delivery but they're like a taco your family would make. My preference is the chicken but the shredded beef is also yum. I would actually say these are the best tacos in town. I'm in love with Juan's but maybe only because their rice and beans are better. When I get rice and beans I expect cheese and maybe a roja if not maybe some pico but this has neither. Its just plain. The guacamole looks very unappealing. You can see the pic in my previous pic. Avocados are prevalent so I don't get it. But I'm for sure on the tacos. Yum.

Emily F.

Yelp
16 something just for some asada fries is crazy. I remember just a year ago they were 12 bucks. your guys ex cashier Giselle also said yall treat your meat like shit. So that's even crazier. Do better.
google avatar

Kaci F.

Yelp
I went here today for lunch! I had the "nacho fries with steak" and those were 4 star delicious! Lots of fresh toppings and great fries--could use a pinch more cheese. I also had a chicken taco. They were buy one get one free! That's awesome. There were good- probably 4 star tacos. My friend got the pasole. The pazole was not a winner, lacked flavor, they gave lettuce on the side instead of cabbage and there were bones in the meat. Hard to enjoy soup with bones. 2 star pazole: edible, but not good. Something silly to mention: the rice. I'm not usually a rice fan but holy moly this rice is 5 star delicious. If you get a plate combo--get the rice!!!! My friends treated me to lunch today but the prices were reasonable. They use styrofoam which ain't cool and at $10 for a plate of nacho fries, I'm sure you can afford the upgrade. In summary certain things on the menu rock, some things are flops--just depends what you're going there for.

Yelp
Riva's continues to be my go to place for authentic Mexican food. The drive-in is very convenient, and service is fast and friendly. My favorites are breakfast burritos, the chicken burrito, and my new favorite chicken or steak nachos. The prices are very competitive and the burritos are huge. There is limited seating inside, and the ambience is very casual. It is arguably the best Mexican food in Carson City.

Max W.

Yelp
Went to this place 3 times in the last week and each time they got my order wrong. Such a waste of my money honestly. Food is decent tho

Mister C.

Yelp
Tried giving Rivas another shot after a few months and ran into different issues than last time. Don't use the app - whatever backend system that Rivas HQ is using for it is absolute and utter garbage, because the same as last time, it takes the order and your money but doesn't send it to the location. So the workers don't know you made an order until you show up to pick up your food and they start looking for your order in the app system. Pretty worthless - call instead. Otherwise they won't start making your food until you arrive to pick it up. Also, the app doesn't take inventory of the store into question. I placed an order for twelve wings and only received nine, because that was the last of the chicken wings they had. (They didn't mention this before I left the store with my food.) The manager couldn't issue a refund for it......because I placed the order in the app. I have to stop by in order to get my money back. The food was alright and the manager was understanding when I called and offered a refund, which is why I gave three stars. But there's zero reason to have an app that doesn't work - I don't know if that's a store problem or a corporate problem, but either way it's a problem.

Yelp
All the food is delish. I have had the tacos, burritos, nacho fries (amazing) and breakfast. Jamaica is delish. Best red hot sauce in town!
google avatar

Yelp
They may be in a strange place, but they have a really cool vibe going here. Reasonably priced breakfast burritos and huge! They may be a little dry because the eggs get a little overcooked, but that shouldn't be too hard to correct in the future. Next time I order up here....(next week) I am gonna ask for the eggs to be cooked for a couple seconds less, should make the burrito a little less dry. I have also tried the breakfast burrito "wet" with enchilada sauce, and that was super tasty. I've also ordered up the rolled tacos. Normally these aren't my favorite but that was before I had them at Rivas. Parking is fine here. The building is small but doesn't seem to bad to just eat your food there if it's just you or a plus one. I wouldn't plan on eating here if you have a larger party, but they make it to go just fine. Pro-Tip if you are traveling through Carson and need some food, this is probably your best bet for non-chain food to get off and on the freeway in a timely manner.

Jerry K.

Yelp
The only decent Mexican food place in Carson City. Good nachos. not swimming in liquid cheese. Great Carnitas. Reasonably priced

Raol V.

Yelp
I go there. The food is good. Prices are good. But when I picked up my food today the cashier was picking up my tacos and putting them in the to go container. I understand they are trying to hurry and doing the best they can. But she is handling money constantly and then handling my food. Everyone is worried about covid and such and winter is the worst time for flu. That is my only complaint. Other than that. Im happy with the place.

Rene H.

Yelp
The food is amazing, especially their carne asada!!! A little pricier than what it used to be, but somehow it's still worth it!

Jeff B.

Yelp
Waited 15 minutes at drive thru window. I could see my order sitting next to the 4 employees laughing and ignoring me. They had asked if I was paying cash and said I was going to use my bank card. Didn't understand what the problem was, so eventually I told them thank you and left since nobody was going to give me my order.
google avatar

Rae S.

Yelp
Highly recommend ! Rivas is the most authentic Mexican food around town. They won't disappoint. (9/25/22)
google avatar

Nishmitha U.

Yelp
I reached this place around 10.30pm and the guy from the restaurant turned off the lights just as I was walking to the door saying they are closed. Yelp and google mentioned that they are open till 11pm. I mean if you are not open till 11pm update the timings. This is bad.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Have you ever wrestled two bears wearing some girls big beach hat on a Wednesday morning and decided you need a fat burrito with more hot sauce than your bathroom can handle? Well you are in luck. These guys have the perfect post bear in a beach hat treats with two and three times your bathrooms capacity for hat sauce. Also, Al Pastor chimichanga is an f'ing life changer.
google avatar

Yelp
Mexican food is my thing, specifically burritos . Wife and I ate here and agreed this was the worst Mexican food we've had in a long long while. My burrito (vegetarian) was folded wrong so the ingredients were all over, the taste was really bad, hard to describe but it was bad--never again. Wife had some enchiladas: cold, sauce tasted bland like pasta sauce. Funky overall. Skip it.

Getulio L.

Yelp
I came with my family tonight to Rivas, arrived at 10:17 and placed my order for 8 people including drinks and extras. When our order arrived, it was missing rice. So far so good just come and let me know you didn't have the rice I wouldn't mind and would go ahead with my order. My order arrived at 10:37 and soon all the outside lights were turned off with all the tables outside including 2 children. Summarizing my visit, there was a lack of communication and a little sensitivity with the children at the table, I wouldn't mind turning off the lights at 11:00 on time. For the food, yes, I recommend it for the communication and not to bring a child

Melissa S.

Yelp
I'd love to give them 5 stars but the service I had today ruined it. I always order the same thing. repeated myself 3 different occasion. when I tried to correct them at the same end I got no I'm wrong responce and they couldn't even fix my order they would have taken to extra minutes. Not very happy today and I will not be going back.
google avatar

Elijah V.

Yelp
First time goin in for breakfast and I have to admit my Burrito was Fuego!. Went in on a Thursday morning with some buddies from work . I ordered the steak breakfast burrito . The price is around $12 but the burrito is deliciously huge full of steak ,egg, cheese and potato .Be sure to Order a Horchata because the salsas they provide with the order is spicy .

Irene L.

Yelp
Went to Rivas today, thought I'd give it a try, hadn't really heard good or bad either way. Ordered a Chicken burrito Wet, what I got was not chicken it was pork or the driest , chewiest chicken I have ever had in my life. The meat had no flavor, the sauce was bland and very little cheese and the customer service was horrible. Needless to say I won't be going back. I will take the extra drive the next time I want a wet chicken burrito and go to Super Burrito.
google avatar

Yelp
We enjoyed our late dinner of Wet Shrimp Burritos and a shared order of Nachos with Guacamole the other evening after many hours at the Hot Springs. When I first cut into the huge burrito, I was a bit concerned when I saw refried beans in with my grilled shrimp. I was thinking that this was not going to work well. I was wrong! I was very pleasantly surprised at how the whole thing REALLY worked. I would definitely get this again. We also enjoyed our Nachos with Guacamole. It was large enough to share and had plenty of toppings for even the last chip. We added some of their tasty salsa from the Salsa Bar, too. It all hit the spot!
google avatar

Colleen A.

Yelp
Great food meats are very flavorful, Shrimp tacos are delicious with rice and beans. We live five minutes away so it's a great place for us. Busy drive through for lunch or dinner. I live with my son he orders our food before leaving home. It's always ready when he arrives. If you can't finish the food it's always good the next day. My son's name is Scott
google avatar

Cindy J.

Yelp
The steak quesadilla is salty but huge with a lot of meat and it's the only reason for two stars instead of zero. Unfortunately the service is terrible. And today, this was the Chile Relleno I received. Burnt to a crisp, hard as a rock... Completely inedible.
google avatar

Gary F.

Yelp
Very happy to see this place open up awhile ago - I've been here a few times since they've opened already. I usually get some sort of variation on the burrito. I've tried pastor, carnitas, breakfast chorizo and breakfast carnitas so far - all have been very good! I've also tried the carnitas nachos. Twice now, I've gotten something for dinner and also got a breakfast burrito to go so I can warm it up the next day for breakfast. This worked great as they'll make breakfast burritos at any time, not just in the mornings. I mean, who wants to get up and get dressed and go somewhere all bleary-eyed in the morning? Much easier to pop that baby in the microwave and chow down without leaving home! I actually prefer to do a combination of warming in the microwave to help get the inside warmed up (these things are huge!) and finish in a non-stick pan on the stove. I just prefer them warmed up that way. Like I said above, the burritos and nachos are huge! Most likely they'll feed two people unless you're super hungry or if you're not having anything at all on the side.
google avatar

Diana Y.

Yelp
Yummmmmm!!!! Try the chicken taquitos!!!!! I've been here twice. The carne asada fries weren't that special. Fries were a little mushy, but I came back again and got the taquitos plate! Wowzers! This place brings me back to Cali Mexican food! Thank you for existing. Truly!
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
I checked this place out shortly after they opened and I have to say, I was pretty disappointed. I ordered the posole and it was one of the worst I've ever had. The broth lacked flavor and the meat was mostly gristle and fat. Even with added lime, onion, and cilantro i just couldn't get into it. I did order a chicken taco on the side (tacos were BOGO which was fun) and that was decent, but again, not great. My lunch buddies ordered the carne Assad fries which were tasty but definitely lower quality frozen fries compared to some other restaurants in the area. The menu is fun and somewhat creative so I'm hoping they improve over time!
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
I honestly don't know how they have received such great reviews. This has to be hands down the absolute worst food I've ever had, from anywhere. Disgusting! My daughter and I both agreed. We tried to eat it, give it a chance, but just couldn't stomach it. We both ate maybe 3 bites before we both looked at each other like we were going to throw up. Im seriously worried that we will end up with food poisoning. Words can not express how horrible this food was. We ordered the chicken wet burrito, a steak quesadilla and 3 beef hard tacos. Didn't get the sour cream that I paid extra for either. I literally feel sick. Just had my daughter throw it all out in the trash outside. Just wasted $68 including tip Order was through Grubhub
google avatar

M M.

Yelp
The Chicken Fries and Steak Fries are really good and J love the Ham Breakfast burrito
google avatar

Suzanne H.

Yelp
I don't know the area that well and was trying to decide on something tasty for lunch Well let me tell you I WON with Riva's carne asada fries! Basically, but no basic it was a full burrito on your fries. The meat was very well seasoned and packed with flavor not fatty or chewy, beans guacamole and sour cream well proportioned so as to not overwhelm, fries weren't soggy but crisp perfection! I ordered through yelp, grub hub and picked my order up made it easy at lunch, it was ready when I got there. Very easy transaction.
google avatar

Jessie E.

Yelp
I've eaten here multiple times but apparently forget to leave reviews. I often get delivery via this parties. This time I got a sope, shrimp taco, carnitas taco, and steak taco (don't judge me, I only ate some in one sitting lol). The carnitas and shrimp tacos were the best. I basically inhaled them. The carnitas were juicy with some crispy edges, exactly how I like them. The shrimp were super yum. (However, I thought I remembered last time that the shrimp tacos were disappointing, so idk?). Anyway, all good. All good portion sizes. Recommend! :)
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
We got their menu flyer in the mail on a Monday, went down on a Wednesday and wow, I've never heard of steak fries, but DANG they're good! The meat is tasty, tender & the fries, cheese, pico & guac makes one great meal. It must weigh 3lbs - enough for 2. And the gentlemen working the drive-thru were super fast! No waiting here. We went back around 10pm on Saturday night for a late dinner wanting to try the carnitas burrito (they were out) & so we got chicken taquitos & the bogo chicken tacos & again, plenty of meat, but I hate to say it, the chicken was tasteless like it was boiled. I hope they were just having a bad day & ran out of the tasty chicken along with the carnitas. We'll be back! Thanks for choosing Carson City for your 9th location.
google avatar

Bob D.

Yelp
Carson City Gem! Killer breakfast burritos. Their flour tortillas are definitely not from around here. Very consistent on the food and service.
google avatar

I Z.

Yelp
Meh... I've had better real Mexican food But I'm from in So Cal, taquitos lacked cheese with too much sour cream. Bad balance of ingredients. More cheese less sour cream Chicken burrito was okay but wasn't "wet' as ordered. I know I had ordered 'wet' because my buddy with me confirmed this, when asking what a 'wet' burrito was. Didn't know this until we got home and the burrito wasn't too bad even though I had requested wet. Should've Double checked ,my bad. We all make mistakes cause we're human Cashier nice...sweet n friendly... So only a 3 cause food wasn't as good as I've eaten but ok

Yelp
This place is poppin'! So busy. Was up in Carson to pick up my vehicle from the dealership and my daughter was wanting some Mexican food for lunch. Put in a pick up order for steak fajitas, and a steak burrito. The flavors were fantastic! We arrived around 1130 and it was already busy and a bit of a wait and by noon cars were wrapped around this place. The food did not disappoint and this is clearly a hidden hot spot off the beaten path. The meat was excellent well seasoned and my daughter the spa nice rice was one of the best she has ever tasted- fluffy and flavorful. This a must try when visiting Carson City!!!
google avatar

Christyna R.

Yelp
Go through the drive through to order my normal, regular order. One plate of vegetarian fries. The woman on in intercom says okay as asks us to drive up. After about 5 minutes she comes to the window and tells my husband "we don't have vegetarian fries on the menu so we charged you for chicken fries" UM ? I've ordered the vegetarian fries over 10 times now and it shows as $7.99 on the online menu! Whats even more frustrating is that this woman has served me veggie fries a couple times previously so she obviously knows! Unfortunately for me, my husband was driving and wouldn't let me say anything. We got the veggie fries for the chicken fries price (a $3 upcharge) and Im sure the worker did this on purpose. I had rated them so high before but they completely ruined my opinion of them.

Yelp
I just moved to Carson City and this is some of the best Mexican food I have had in awhile. I ordered the rolled chicken taco meal. It came with beans and rice. I've always liked beans, but I've never been a huge fan of the rice. Their rice was so good, I wanted more! I really like that they had a drive thru, especially with what's going on in the world right now. Definitely will be going back, but I highly recommend the rolled chicken tacos!
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is small quaint place. Not a lot of tables. But I love Rivas Vegetarian Nachos, chicken burrito, chicken tacos, chicken chimichangas. Rivas is my go to place for a quick Mexican meal.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Since my last review we've been back and tried a couple other dishes. You can't go wrong with the breakfast burrito (I think the chorizo is a little bland, so I always go for either the sausage or bacon). The carne asada burrito and chicken burritos are good and loaded with meat, but not much else. I believe they have meat, guacamole and pico in them. Personally, I prefer a burrito with all the fillings - rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, etc. - so for me their burritos are good, but lacking some main ingredients. The cheese quesadilla is basic and huge and my daughter loves it. Overall, great drive thru mexican food. Maybe next time I'll change my burrito to add all the extras.

Mike M.

Yelp
I'm a huge and I mean huge Mexican food lover and Rivas is garbage Mexican food. Save your money and go elsewhere, hell taco bell is better than this shit. Very fatty meat, soggy falling apart tortillas, nasty over chopped tomatoes, want chips and queso?? Well I did and they charged me $8 for chips and shredded cheese. People that love this place must not like real Mexican food or have dead taste buds.
