We enjoyed the dinner here with our 13-year-old son on a Friday night. We sat in the back patio area which featured live music from a guitar player. We appreciated that the music was a nice volume that did not overwhelm conversation. Food quality and preparation was solid. The service was excellent. Ambience is really nice with the lighting and decor. A really nicely done small restaurant that has good food with a casual vibe.

We consider this restaurant the “Crown Jewel” of Boulder and the Denver area. In two days, we tried everything on the menu and were consistently impressed by its taste and presentation. The only picture we took was of the deviled eggs. We devoured the food so quickly that pictures became an afterthought. The staff was pleasant, professional, and understood the restaurant’s mission. After 2 days we became friends and it felt like we knew them for 20 years. We truly hope our paths cross again! Hats off to Maddie, Gabby, Rob, and Nos (chef) - with all our adoration, Jennifer, Steve “The Grad,” and Matthew from Chicago!

What a darling and inviting place this is! Every single staff member was kind and said hello and thanks for being here. Our server Andy was excellent - perfect timing, great suggestions and super friendly and welcoming. We came for Easter brunch and it was delicious. My husband loved the Brunch burger and I couldn’t resist the biscuits and gravy- so good! One of the highlights of the meal was starting with the Alpine Brunch Board sure to please any foodie. Such careful attention to detail… you can tell they take pride in what they do here! ❤️ Also recommend the Bloody Mary with the pepper vodka and the Paloma. The bartenders definitely know what they are doing.

First time in Boulder and we found this gem of a restaurant via Google Maps. We dined at the bar and felt right at home with Maddie & Rob. I had a great start with a Manhattan made with Redwood Empire Rye. It got better from there! We had Duck Wings (which were so good) to start and moved to the Rocky Mountain River Trout and the Pasture Raised Chicken. Maddie paired up a beautiful Nivarius Tempranillo Blanco that was spot on for both the trout and the chicken. We finished with the Chocolate Mousse paired with a Castro Ventosa Spanish red. This was a food and wine lovers primo experience! The trout and sides were outstanding and the chicken dish with the greens was excellent. Maddie knows her wines and has some tasty and interesting choices. Pro tip, book a dinner for two at the bar! We will come back! Sorry, no photos of trout and chicken as we were into the meal.

We booked a large party for a birthday celebration. Four of our party was running late and as a courtesy we let them know. One person did not order food - at this point they came out and announced we would be charged $20 for any adult who did not eat. When we asked to see the policy/speak to the manager, they said they would skip that charge, but we would be charged for any seats that weren't filled. They repeatedly sent our waitress back to speak with us, versus having a manager speak to us. When she finally came out, she said they could have sat other people, and it wasnt fair to the restaurant if we had a table for 15 but only had 13 people present. There are open tables as I write this. There were open tables the entire time. The food was okay. My duck wings were cold in the middle but the flavor was good. The food was not delivered until after this altercation, which was 100 minutes AFTER our reservation (and several of us were here early). That's over an hour and a half we had 2 empty seats they intended to charge us for when they weren't serving our food. We checked the website, the menu, the reservation confirmation. There is NOTHING that said we would have a $20 penalty for any seats empty, for adults not eating, or for any other issues. I will never, for any reason, eat at this restaurant again. They tried to bring the check before half the table was even served. And if you want to make an arbitrary rule half way through our meal, have the backbone to come speak with us and not send the waitress back over and over with different ways to charge us money for things we haven't done or didn't order. Terrible service. Food was cold. Management was rude. But hey, there seems to be a table at any time.... Also? There was an "upcharge" for getting anything besides mustard or ketchup on the burger. Not just cheese - lettuce, tomatoes and pickles were extra. This place is a joke.

Google
Wonderful restaurant, delicious food, and amazing team! I organized a group dinner for 25 people and we couldn’t be happier with the experience! The family style dinner allowed us to stay within budget while giving us opportunity to try different appetizers, salad, 3 different main courses, and two desserts. Strongly recommended!

Google
Quaint, delicious spot in Boulder that’s worth a visit. Farm to table menu, craft brews, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Looks small from the outside but there’s plenty of room. Great for a large group or biz dinner. Make a reservation.

Google
Such a fun place for a date night !!! They have indoor and outdoor seating. The selection of food is small but very carefully chosen and super high quality. The meat and cheese board as an appetizer was out of this world. We really enjoyed their wine selections. I had their burger and it was very good and perfectly seasoned. The fries were amazing too. My girlfriend had the gnocchi and loved it !! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was woodsy and bright. Would recommend coming here !!

Yelp
Super tasty restaurant. It's this awesome glamping x upscale dining mashup. Good vibe and great service. My husband took us here for a surprise date. We started with some drinks and the duck wings and and crispy artichoke. Both were good, but the duck wings were the preferred. We then doubled down and got duck and short rib for dinner. Beautiful plating and delicious dishes. We ordered their SA Syrah, which they were unfortunately out of, so settled for their last bottle of a vintage of Barolo. Delic! We got dessert and dessert wines but I'm totally forgetting what we got. Anyway, super great place.

Yelp
Dinner this time. Excellent wine selection (Nebbiolo and Barolo that are top notch). Mac and cheese is fantastic as are the burger and forage plates. Service is always stellar with Rob-- an amazing human.

Yelp
Okay I LOVE this place!!! It is the cutest little cottage inside and well designed outside. The food is AMAZZINGGG!! The breakfast burger and me shook on how delicious the meat was. The burrito is thick and incredible. Our waitress was also amazing. My friend has a gluten and dairy allergies and she came back multiple times to ask questions to ensure she didn't get sick. I HIGHLY recommend

Yelp
3x of us ordered the Gnocchi Verde - I don't know - and looked at each other and said nope at the conclusion of the main course. The gnocchi are large balls of dense chewy, bland... stuff. The short rib option tacks on $13 to make it a $40 plate. We all puzzled as to how you could slow braise short ribs and have them end up totally dry. The reggiano cream sauce was pasty. We all agreed the plate wasn't successful in any aspect and asked the server if it just came on the menu "no, it's always on". We looked at each other- confused. Serving staff is great. Space is nice. Nothing on the table thru the meal was a needle mover for the group though. I can't come up with a reason to give it another chance - too many good options nearby.

Yelp
This place is a must! I definitely feel like this is one of the top favorite places I visited in Colorado! It feels like you're walking into someone's home and enjoy a nice brunch at the backyard! They're biscuits are probably my favorite even though a lot of Colorado makes amazing baskets! Definitely sit outdoors as it is shaded and you can enjoy a spacious ambience! The bottom salad is super fresh and tasty! Also, they grow their own herbs in the back garden, so you can see that things are actually made. You also walk through the kitchen, which is really cool! The service was a little slow, but I think the Chef's were running behind, which is fine, because we just enjoyed the outdoors!

Yelp
We were able to get a large table during a college football game night/busy weekend. Surprisingly, they were able to accommodate a large party of ten with short notice. The outdoor patio gave you the feeling that you were in someone's backyard and not a patio. Very cozy, lush, and nice privacy from the other tables. They had a nice list of signature cocktails, beers and wines to choose from. They had 5 Colorado beers on tap and few other beers in cans to choose from. The menu indicates that they specialize in locally sourced, Colorado comfort food. I ordered the Callicrate Ranch Short Rib Tagliatelle. I learned that the Callicrate Ranch is in Colorado Springs and specializes in cattle ranching. The short ribs were one of the most expensive items on the menu so I had high expectations for it. With 10 people at the table, I wished I had ordered one of the other meals. Shepherds pie and fried chicken were hits at the table and looked mouth watering. The most expensive does not always mean the best. The other person who ordered in our party was very impressed. Too rich for my taste buds.

Yelp
Service was wonderful, we had an early reservation, so we were able to converse and hear each other. The food...what a disappointment. Flavorless, dull. Menu is odd. I like a menu that makes me torn between choices. This menu left me struggling with what to order. Caesar salad was pedestrian and overdressed. Cassoulet tasted like, well, nothing! Burger, the same. The thing we liked the most was the fried artichoke appetizer, but that could have been because we were hungry, and it was the first thing that arrived. Not worth the $$.

Yelp
Upscale comfort food and great cocktails. Just for the menu it gets 5 stars. The restaurant proper is tiny, but the extension they've built in the back yard works pretty well. It's not gorgeous, but good company and good food/drink make up for a lot of that. Service was friendly but not always the fastest (but the servers deserve extra credit because you can't get from the front of the restaurant to the back area without passing through the middle of the split kitchen where all the servers are waiting by the passes). While they have ways of dealing with accessibility issues, they do definitely exist. There's available parking off Pearl Street (this is well before the mall), though it's a little catch as catch can.

Yelp
We had read good things about River and Woods and were excited to try it. The food is good, but could be better, the service was good, but slow, and because the inside of the restaurant is so small, we sat in their covered patio which was comfortable, but because this was February, our feet were freezing. The food... --Brussel sprouts: Very good and flavorful. --Crispy artichoke hearts: Good --Short rib tagliatelle: OK, not great. --Rocky mountain trout: OK, but not great. --Shepherd's pie: Very good. --S'mores: Very good, possibly the best thing we ordered. Our server was great, but he was stretched between too many tables. The restaurant tacks on a 20% fair wage charge, which they tell you up front, so additional tipping is optional. And then they charge 1% as a carbon farming charge. Really? The price for all this is pretty high, and in my opinion, not worth the money. The 4 of us shared two side dishes, each of us had an entree, we shared one dessert, and I ordered one cocktail, and the bill came to $240.

Yelp
I thought the gnocci was at first uncooked flour, but in reality I think it was just dense cheese. It was anthetical to what a gnocchi should be. This gnocchi would sink in the ocean. Nice ambience, good bread.
google avatar

Taine D.

Yelp
I had a delicious virgin Paloma and the gnocchi verde and my friend had the trout entree. We loved both. The gnocchi verde was creamy and delicious, and the gnocchi was perfectly done. My friend ate the entire plate of trout and enjoyed his salad as well. Our waitress did forget the side of mashed potato's but it was fine because we were stuffed anyways. And she caught it and offered to get it for us but it was the end of our meal and as I said we were stuffed from our entrees. The cottage/ restaurant itself is super cute and cozy and the decor was quite appealing. 5 stars will return again soon.

Yelp
I really love this place! I've been here a few times and the food is always good. The staff is nice and the restaurant is so cute! We did have very slow service this time around, however the drinks and decor make up for it. Definitely try their waffle hash browns, coffee, and the trout and lox!

Yelp
We had a family dinner for 20 people and the outdoor seating and ambiance was amazing under the tent. With outdoor heaters to keep the table warm on a crisp fall evening we could have not asked for a better setting. The food was great. Portion sizes more than welcoming and as you can see from the photos, the food started to disappear faster than I could grab a photo! The cocktails and wine selection were great and seemed to satisfy everyone's libation desires. The team and management were very attentive and accommodating for any special request. We were in town for a family wedding and were excited to make River and Woods one of our destinations for the weekend after reading so many great things about the cute cottage and food. We are glad we made it and look forward to our next visit!

Yelp
The food was okay and the waiter was very nice. However the reason I'm giving this 3 stars is that we came here as many of the items were either gluten free or dairy free. So upon ordering gluten free and dairy free items one of the girls double checked with the waiter to make sure it was actually gf/df as stated on the menu. The waiter then told us it was a typo and it's not actually gf/df. Major red flag, if one of the girls didn't ask if an item that stated it was gf/df was actually gf/df, it wouldn't have been mentioned that there was a typo on the menu.

Yelp
This super cozy restaurant is off the main streets and tucked away in an old house. The building is beautiful and inviting! It looks like an old home that has been converted into a restaurant and has a huge and lovely outdoor space in the back. We came here for brunch on a Saturday, and it was quite busy but we were able to get a table. The service was mediocre here, sadly. Everyone was nice, but it took a while for drinks and food to come out. Despite the slow service and some lack of knowledge of the menu, the food was worth the wait! We both ordered the breakfast burger with breakfast potatoes. Everything was incredibly fresh and hot. We ordered our burgers without the egg (but they both came with one anyways) and it was really yummy. The Pattys were delicious, but buttered and toasted to perfection and the runny egg really hit the spot. The breakfast potatoes were simple- but crispy, well seasoned and super fresh grilled onions and peppers really pulled it all together! We would definitely come back as the food was excellent!

Yelp
Delicious drinks and well thought out seasonal menu. Tried the casserollette and it was a fantastic fall dish!

Yelp
Great service, awesome food for brunch. Great ambiance as well. Would recommend for sure

Yelp
Come for the vibes... stay for the vibes! And food! Ideal spot for date night, group drinks or for a celebration dinner. My co-workers and I (12 of us!) had a group dinner here, and it went exceptionally well from start to finish. Super impressed with service and execution. We started with every appetizer on the menu except the soup (not ideal for sharing, plus it was super hot!) -- all fantastic. If I had to pick just three, it would be the bacon-wrapped dates, Montreal duck wings and the group's overall fave, the Old Bay deviled eggs, proving my thought that Old Bay makes everything better. By the time we were finished with the apps, I was close to full, so for my meal, I got two sides: the smokey bacon cheddar mac and cheese and the sweet potato mega bites. The mac was very cheese and very bacon-y, but I loved the sweet potatoes, which had skin on and was super crispy. We somehow made room for dessert: tabletop s'mores! It was definitely an upscale s'mores experience, with nice dark chocolate raspberry and burnt marshmallow chunk and really nice and thick crackers. They ran out of chocolate bars so the second platter came with Nutella. Needless to say we were incredibly stuffed! Other menu items that received high praise: the churros, fall-off-the-bone ribs and the maple butter/jalapeño cornbread. We dined in the outdoor (tented) area, which was decorated super cutely with an outdoorsy/farm feel. It was incredibly hot though, especially with many people inside, so just be aware of that!

Yelp
For dinner we had their Rocky Mountain trout, short rib tagliatelle, deviled eggs, challah bread, and churros with chocolate for dessert. The short rib tagliatelle was some of the best pasta I've ever had! Highly recommend this dish, it is SO delicious! I'll be back just to have this again. The other stand out was the special of the night which was their challah bread with lavender and pine butter. This pairing was heavenly! It's a small interior so it got loud at times and you're seated close to other tables. But the service and ambiance was nice overall!

Yelp
I had a bad time here and it definitely wasn't worth the price tag. Some highlights: - It took 15 mins to be greeted by server/get water in our cups (we had to ask twice for water, every time we asked our server he said of course and then left and forgot). - Despite it being a fully booked night with advance reservations, they ran out of one entree and both desserts that we ordered (how does that happen??). The substitute dessert of smores we got was badly portioned and not worth the mess of eating it. - Appetizers were great, entrees were just ok, dessert was aforementioned not good.... the experience just kept going downhill. - Our server was inattentive, slow and honestly unprofessional. For that sort of price tag I am just not sure how he can work there. So many little things were forgotten, and he tried to make up for everything with charisma that came off totally awkward and wrong, and by the end I had my card sitting on the check for about 20 minutes before he came and picked it up (it was 10:15 p.m. at that point and I felt like I was being held hostage). I would definitely not rush to come back here. This place has the makings of something great but they need to focus on FOH professionalism, customer service and consistent quality before tacking on a 20% fair wage tip fee to the checks, because in no way did our experience justify that.

Yelp
I wasn't in town for very long, but I saw the wonderful prix fixe menu in a yurt and wanted to treat my sweet partner to a lovely meal while we were there. The food was outstanding, and there was so much of it. I truly didn't expect that a five course meal would come with a plate full of food for each dish, but it certainly did, and they were all very tasty. The inside of the yurt is so cool. It's just a neat curated experience you can't quite get anywhere else that I've been. It was nice and heated inside, too, which is good for those chilly winter nights. Also, a shout out to the servers from that night for being so kind and accommodating. The yurt is out in their yard, in front of the restaurant, but we were checked on frequently and given a lot of consideration despite being somewhere that was (probably) awkwardly out of the way. Absolutely stellar experience and one to invest in if you're in town!

Yelp
I had the Bison sausage with a tomato based sauce on mashed potato. The sausage was very dry and the tomato paste was very plain. Not a great dish. They need to re-work that dish.

Yelp
Delicious all around. We shared many dishes and the gnocchi with short ribs was our favorite. We'll be back!

Yelp
I debated between 4-5 stars for a few reasons, so I decided on 5 stars but will list a few heads ups... 1. It's pretty pricey - some people would consider this a negative, but I think it's just important to be aware of it, we don't go all the time because of this 2. The service can very - they're always really nice just sometimes understaffed. This weekend we were seated and the waitstaff in the area didn't notice but when someone did notice they took our order and everything else was smooth 3. A lot of the dishes often have pork and we don't eat pork. There's always a couple to choose from but if we were pork eaters there would be way more options. It's also important to note they add a 20% living wage charge, so then it's up to you if you add any additional gratuity. Okay, now for all the reasons this place deserves 5 stars. The food is absolutely DELICIOUS. I've eaten here multiple times and have never had a bad meal. We prefer to go for brunch and it's truly a phenomenal menu. We hadn't been in a while and decided to go this Saturday and were really excited to see that they had changed up the menu and we had more options as non-pork eaters. I got the short rib scramble and it was so delicious, the meat was prepared perfectly and the potatoes and veggies were so tasty. My husband got the burrito and it was HUGE and very good. He ended up taking half home with him. We also got the fritters to share - the dipping sauce was also so good! I didn't take any pictures because we were really hungry but we'd recommend all of these! We also got an ice cream sandwich to go - because it sounded so good but we were full. And the cookies were so big - that we made one with just one cookie and enjoyed the other cookie today. Maybe one of the best ice cream sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies I've ever had. I'd go back in the future just for this! In the past we have had their cocktails and they're also delicious. They also have challah you can buy by the loaf for Shabbat and the bread is good but the butter brings it to another level - it's a bit pricy but worth trying! If you're looking for a cozy spot, with an amazing menu - definitely check this spot out!

Yelp
Went for dinner with boyfriend on a nice Friday night. We sat outside. There was no wait. The inside is very pretty decor too. We both got drinks (Gin ruby & through the woods spritz), oysters, and the challah bread. It took a long time to get the drinks and appetizers. The challah bread was AMAZING. the lavender butter was weird, would've preferred a honey butter or a herb butter. Both drinks were super tasty. The oysters were also great. Our entrees came out after we both had one slice of bread and before we even got to have an oyster. It was very overwhelming! The plates did not fit on the table and it really made the whole experience so much worse. It would've been great to have spaced out our entree and our appetizers. Our waiter also went from being super accommodating to not at all maybe due to more customers being seated. I wish they had taken our empty plates to make some space on the table for us. It would've made our meal more enjoyable. Great food and great ambiance. Would've been rated higher if the courses were spaced out or even if the empty plates were taken away!
google avatar

Maria P.

Yelp
This place is super cute! It's really neat the history of it and how it became a restaurant. It's super small looking from the front but once you go in it is very unexpected how spacious it is from the inside. The service was great from the moment we were greater all the way to the end. The vibe inside is very welcoming and you can tell how the staff really loves working there. The food was really good. Our table had the following: - Trout dish (really good) - crawfish and grits ( delicious, very flavorful) - short rib ( good however the flavors were very unique) Highly recommend coming here.

Yelp
A terrific find in Boulder on a quite stretch of Pearl Street. Unassuming from the street, but inside felt both homey and contemporary. We didn't get to set in the back patio area but would love to in the future. The service was genuinely friendly. The menu of elevated comfort food and craft cocktails has something for everyone. I almost missed the shrimp and grits and am so glad that I caught (and ordered) it I don't have a sweet tooth but was really impressed with their dessert menu! The orange pie was surprisingly delicious. Can't wait to return!

Briqn E.

Yelp
Pass. Way overpriced. Food is solid and will appeal to foodies but gosh it's so overpriced to the point of being ridiculous. A $15 cocktail that was somewhat larger than a thimble full. And $20 for a burger (and that item is by far the cheapest entree on the menu). Would like to go back for the food but won't because of the sticker shock of the bill and what you get
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
Delicious food, nice ambiance, nice servers. The only thing I did not like is that we did not receive an itemized bill at the end. I didn't want to make it awkward and demand an itemized bill but I like knowing that I am being charged correctly...

Yelp
Went for my sons birthday and although most of the food was good, the service was less than mediocre and generally what I would call clueless and aloof. Upon arrival it took a little while to get seated as nobody was attending the desk. We were seated outside after a few minutes; but didn't see a waiter for quite some time. We were seated outside and standing up the room seemed quite warm due to the heaters, but it was quite cold once we sat down below the warm air. This is a concept the waitstaff needs to understand. I say this as virtually none of the employees would close the door all the way when entering/exiting. Some didn't even attempt it, and left it wide open, as others would give it a shove and get it nearly closed with a maybe a foot gap. We were the closest table to the door and constantly blasts of cold air were very frustrating. At least 15 times during our meal some guest got up to close the door. As it had taken so long to get a visit from our waitress, we ordered dinner and drinks together. When our apps arrived it sounded like the wine was coming, but we later realized they just meant more food would be forthcoming. By the time our mains arrived we decided to skip the wine we'd ordered as we'd surely be finished by the time it came. Around the time we got our apps, a waiter for another table bumped our table and knocked over the flower arrangement at the edge of the table. No big deal - except he didn't even acknowledge it, and then proceeded to lean in (literally) and left his butt leaning/on our table for the next 30 seconds or so. It was literally on our table - so much that we couldn't put the flowers back. We quietly waited for him to remove it before putting our arrangement back in the space he'd been occupying. The food was generally quite good. We were there for my son's birthday, and he really likes the duck wings and they didn't disappoint. Artichokes and polenta also got high marks. We ordered the Challah bread (a half loaf) which was marketed as fluffy - yet it was the most dense Challah I've ever had, and it was the size of a big roll; not nearly a half loaf (based on any loaf I've ever seen). In spite of this it was quite tasty - just odd that it was badged as fluffy; and the size was so off. We were also disappointed by the duck special. The fat was well rendered but the rest was essentially raw, which makes me think it may have been a bit frozen or something when they started cooking, as it didn't seem like the fat could be that well rendered being so raw inside. In this condition it was super tough and hard to eat; so I opted to bring it home and see if I could make it more edible at home. Another guest just ate the edges and left the rest. After the poor service and inconsistent food we opted not to get dessert as we weren't having a very good time. When the check arrived there was a note (attached) mandating a 20% surcharge for the staff. I usually tip around 20% but when service and food is so mediocre - and no manager ever comes around to see if everything is ok, my only real means of feedback it the tip. Even if I were inclined to tip 25% as I sometimes do; I don't like the surprise of it being added to my bill. It also appears that they then charged tax on the after tip amount (though that's not 100% clear). They also then added another 1% charge without any explanation. Not sure if that's regulated or another profit line. I find these tactics particularly frustrating as the motive for them is typically not the benevolent purpose stated. If an employer wants wage equity they have absolute control over that. What tips do is provide an opening for the recipient to under report their earnings hence pay less income tax- and for the employer to pay less payroll tax as the work wage and revenue lines are understated. So in This case it appears they're taking that ability to under report away from the waiter, secretly charging the customer more - while publishing lower prices and paying lower taxes themselves. This is a lose - lose - win strategy where only the employer gets any benefit. The customer and (potentially) the employees lose. I know this restaurant isn't alone in this tactic - but some are more up front about. What's most upsetting about it (and I'm a former waiter) is the positioning that this is for the employees and without it, they don't have a mechanism to fairly pay all employees - meanwhile there's opacity in how it's divided and they could simply pay more to the employees and charge higher prices transparently. If they use the common argument that customers wouldn't come if they raised their prices the. They're basically admitting two things 1, they need to be sneaky about the back door charge or people wouldn't pay it, or 2, if they did it above board all parties would Pay correct tax and total out of pocket to the customer would be even more.

Yelp
Lovely food. Great find. Hope to return. Good service. Interesting menu with a wide variety of foods. The ambiance is relaxing. Enjoy!

Yelp
By far, the best meal+food experience we had during our first visit to Boulder We LOVED the perfect table for our party of 4, 2 adults + 2 littles (4yo and 1yo) at the front near the hostess stand. It is private enough from the rest of the restaurant that we didn't feel the need to shush our kids excessively or worry we're messing with the general ambiance. Everything we ordered is/was exquisite! I'm a vegetarian and the gnocchi with side order of Brussels sprouts are perfection. Add on a spritz or two (empty in the pic) for a bonus! We wish we would have stayed for dessert, as opposed to thinking a post dinner ice cream would suffice... we've learned our lesson, next time we stay put. Cheers, we'll be back, and we will either request the front table or maybe even the yurt!

Yelp
Super cute location and venue. But I was really not a big fan of the most of the food. We tried the recommended "decomposed pizza" which was literally just mediocre bread and sauce. The duck wings were unique though and that was pretty good. The trout was weird... Flavors of the "sauce" did not go well at all and it felt more like soup than sauce. Cocktails were not bad.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in Boulder. It is so incredibly good. I've been numerous times and I don't think I've ever been dissapointed with what I've ordered. I cannot stress this enough. It is the best freaking Mac N Cheese I've ever had in my life. The gnocchi is stunning. Duck wings to die for. And the churros, oh my lord so good. Service has always been great. The ambience is absolutely gorgeous, down to earth and homey. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Great environment whether sitting inside or outside. Food is amazing. Service has been good in the past but has not been the best lately. Would still continue going for the food if you can be patient with the service

Yelp
Beware. They now tack on a 20% "fair wages fee" on your check without any indication of such on their menu (this was for a party of 4). I almost ended up tipping 40% before noticing this shady move on their part. Tssss.... Bad move, River and Woods.

Yelp
Came to River and Woods as it's highlighted on the Eater 38 list and as a visitor to Boulder I wanted some farm to table fare celebrating local Rocky Mountain flavors. So happy with what we ordered (see pic) Pueblo-Chèvre Cornbread Rocky Mountain Trout John's Gnocchi Verde Everything was delicious. The food is very rich. Butter had a role in every dish. The gnocchi is embedded with baby spinach in a rich parmigiana cream sauce. Trout was Ahmazing.

Yelp
A+ on vibe and hospitality for our large party of 40+ guests. Bar was nice and outside venue terrific. But falls short on overall food preparation and banquet service. Passed hor duerves were good with a crunchy duck leg appetizer being the highlight. Entrees and dessert were uninspired leaving several at our table unserved as the kitchen caught up. I'm sure this experience may not be consistent with regular service for a typical party size.

Yelp
I absolutely loved my experience at River and Woods. My friend and I sat on the patio. The food and service were quite simply excellent. I had the short rib, it was crazy delicious!

Yelp
This place has such a cute ambiance on the back patio. I ordered the Colorado Farmer's Market salad and it was probably the best salad I've ever had at a restaurant! So healthy, fresh, and delicious!!! I loved that all of the produce was sourced locally. I added grilled chicken but I think I could have gone without it- the salad was already very filling and it had these amazing homemade chickpea croutons for protein. The pomegranate lemonade was yummy, too! 10/10!

Yelp
Our waiter was a great kid, but the food was disappointing. It was over priced and under delivered quality wise. what a disappointment. Will never go back.

Yelp
This is a cute little restaurant and Boulder tradition. They have excellent food and ambiance. Great wine selection. We went in late spring to celebrate my birthday and they had these cute dome tents with heaters in them out back. We were able to enjoy the outdoors and have a private dinner feel.

Yelp
Really bad. Terrible service and food. Overpriced. They also have not returned my reservation fee which is suppsoed to be refundable. Needs serious improvement.

Yelp
Amazing space, vibe, food & drinks. It's beautifully cozy, with excellent music & attentive service. We loved our drinks (Mai Paloma, Gin Ruby) and food (especially the crispy artichokes & brown butter trout). The staff went above & beyond to make our evening a very memorable birthday experience. Loved it all, and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Food was amazing. Bacon is delicious. Interesting dishes. Pomegranate mimosas were something new and well with the try. Trying to get in with a walker should use the front entrance. There's a ramp.

Yelp
Tonight was a "5". This was my first visit and I sat at the bar (note, the bar is right next to the front door, but a winter coat over your lap does the trick). It was just me so I went with an appetizer and a side. It was a meal for sure, but what Poutine isn't! This one is rich, rich, rich and I partnered it with the garlic broccolini. The broccolini was PERFECT. Soft greens and hard-crisp stalks. Sometimes "garlic" veggies leave you breathing garlic fire the rest of the night, but this hit just right. The Poutine was perfectly Colorado - the "gravy" was a green chili queso. So cheese curds and cheese! And fries! It had a subtle, but noticeable heat. The salt level was on point. Despite the richness, and maybe it was alternating bites with the broccolini, it didn't get tired. Did I eat all the Poutine? No, not even close, but it was cold out and it heated me up from the inside out.

Yelp
We made reservations for our large party of twelve at least a month or two in advance but upon our arrival there was a scramble to rearrange tables despite the restaurant being half empty. Normally I would expect a forewarned restaurant to be more prepared unless they are dealing with an unexpected rush in business outside of their control. The front of the restaurant is reasonably charming until you are funneled through a laid bare kitchen to get to the 'backyard' seating area. I live in a college town so I understand the desire to go for a quaint vibe but I don't normally expect to see how the sausage is made to such an extent. The menu lacks variety with most of the more interesting items associated with the restaurant online no longer on the menu. I had the trout and while it was well seasoned the stuffed squash served with it had an unappealing odor and dull brown appearance so I left it untouched. Glancing around the table only the salads ordered by my friends and family had any appealing vibrancy. Ultimately nothing I saw on our table matched the presentation of the food as photographed on review sites. I hope that my step daughter enjoyed her graduation party. We are very proud of her achievements. But this is by far the worst dining experience we had during our three day stay. A quick emergency brunch at IHOP earlier in the day was more appetizing.
