River Bistro Closes After Two Years in Detroit’s Rosedale Park Area - Eater Detroit

"River Bistro, a Caribbean-influenced restaurant in northwest Detroit owned by chef Maxcel Hardy, has closed after over two years. The closure was attributed to ongoing road work along Grand Avenue, which impacted foot traffic. The restaurant had opened in August 2017 and was Hardy's first in Detroit." - Brenna Houck

Most of the food are good, I only went here twice, not a busy place, but the waiting time it’s a little slow consider how slow the place is. I still recommend this place though.

I had a delightful dining experience with the dinner I ordered from the River Bistro. The Chicken Caesar wrap and the spring rolls were absolutely delicious. The wrap was perfectly seasoned, and the chicken was tender and flavorful. The spring rolls were crispy and filled with a tasty combination of ingredients. The presentation was impeccable, and the delivery service was prompt. I would highly recommend these dishes to anyone staying at the hotel. It truly added to the enjoyment of my stay

I enjoyed sitting at the bar for an early dinner last night. The IPA beer I had (green alligator draft handle) was quite nice. The food was okay and not anything to rave about … I ordered the Brussel Sprouts Appetizer and the Bartender was kind and took it away and off my bill. The Brussel Sprouts were grossly overcooked to the point of mushiness. The main course I ordered was a Bistro Bowl, Pineapple Fajita which didn’t have any pineapple in any quantity. The grilled flank steak was overcooked but still flavorful … over all this dish was tasty even with the shortfalls. I would eat there again and be very specific with whoever is taking the order on how I want my food prepared. I took a slice of their chocolate cake home and it was the best. Give the River Bistro a try … you will enjoy the atmosphere and the food is above average which is terrific. LIVE LOVE LAUGH ALWAYS … 💙🇮🇱💙

Google
It was fine. The food was generous and tasted fine. Nothing really blew me away. I was staying at the hotel and was given a 15% off coupon, but the coupon wasn't used by my server, and I'm not exactly sure why. I had it out right on the table but it was ignored so... Not sure, what happened there. I probably should have spoken up and asked, but the meal didn't cost that much so I just let it go. I found it odd that they had specials on the board outside the restaurant, but even though it was only Wednesday, they were already out of things that were still advertised. I would have liked a larger wine list. Breakfast was very good. I chose to order off of the menu instead of the buffet and really enjoyed the breakfast sandwich. The egg was cooked perfectly and the home fries were fine. All in all, I would eat here again if staying at the hotel for breakfast, but I might explore some of the other places in downtown Binghamton for dinner.

Best kept secret in Binghamton. I am hoping my review helps to change that. I think most of their issue is they are inside the DoubleTree hotel which prevents your average local from coming upon the place to eat. They seem to only draw in hotel patrons to eat. Bonus to this set back is you'll never have to worry about parking while still eating down town. Great atmosphere and look. You can relax at the bar or have a traditional sit down meal. Even though it is a nicer place, because it is in the hotel and accept all comers and goers, there is no specific dress code. This means you can dress up for a nice night out, or down for comfort and neither will put you out of place. They had a live musician there last night which was a nice element. Food and service was top notch. Alisha was our server. She was knowledgeable, efficient, and personable. You can see what we ate in the pictures below. The crayfish mac and cheese and fried string beans were my favorite, but it was all delicious. My only issues were the chairs, but that will only affect large people like myself, and the creme brulee, but that is a preference thing that won't bother many people. So the chairs you can see on the picture has the metal legs come up above the seat so if your base is any wider than the seat by even a little they dig into you. The creme brulee had a coffee like taste which some people might like the unique take on the classic dish, but I am one of the rare people on Earth who hate coffee.

We were very pleasantly surprised by our delicious dinner this evening. One never knows if a restaurant inside a hotel will be good. All four of us (two adults and two teens) enjoyed our dinners and even stayed for yummy desserts. It was a wide enough variety to please everyone and the service was great.

Google
Fun after concert gathering. Reasonable draft beer prices. Bar food was good, got the sampler platter, except skip the fried Brussel sprouts. I ordinarily like them, but not coated and deep fried. A soggy mess.

Google
Ordered Room Service for our family and YUM - fresh, hot, and fast! Delivered quickly and all our food was exactly as ordered, packaged for transport, and they supplied napkins, utensils, and condiments. The breakfast is very good with TONS of choices for every taste.

Yelp
Ok, first night I nabbed the smash burger and was so happy I did! Fresh bun pickled onions, it was just right! Onion rings are just generic but I like these generic ones. Next night I nabbed the steak salad and it didn't disappoint either. Wait staff is pretty good and nice too even when it gets slammed.

Yelp
The breakfast buffet here was very disappointing. Most of the food was not warm At all. This included decently flavored but cold potato's, cold French toast and very runny looking eggs. The best thing was the juice!

Yelp
We were traveling through to upstate NY and stopped at the restaurant just to eat. Between the four of us, we had: wings, chicken fingers and fries, and a burger. All were good. Service was friendly and quick.

Yelp
We stayed at the Hilton Doubletree in Binghamton for a Kiwanis convention and I had the opportunity to come here for breakfast before our classes and meetings. I have never been a big fan of the hotel breakfast but the River Bistro definitely changed my mind. Besides being a big bright restaurant with extremely reasonable pricing they also boast an extremely friendly and delightful staff. I was in a hurry the first day so I went with the continental breakfast that included a delicious oatmeal (I really love oatmeal) and some fantastic muffins. Not to be mixed up with the fabulous chocolate chip cookies from the front desk. We had more time on day two and took advantage by having an omelette that they make fresh when you order and adding the normal trimmings you find at a breakfast Buffett. The omelettes were definitely prepared as we asked them and were extremely tasty. I am a little surprised to see such a huge discrepancy from my review versus the posted ones. I realize that I had breakfast and they had lunches and dinners. I am coming back next year and will definitely put them to the test. But, from what I had, I will definitely recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
I stayed in the hotel for business reasons on SUNY Binghamton move in day. The town was filled with long islanders moving their kids in. I decided to eat here besides the bad reviews. I went with the salmon BLT. It was pretty damn good and I'd eat here again. Just beware if you aren't a bottle beer person and drink bourbon, you'll get a 1 ounce pour for Around $10. I'm ok with price, if the ambiance is right, but this is Binghamton in the Ghetto basically. The bartender was awesome, friendly and gave good recommendations on what to eat. That alone I'll be back.

Yelp
Wow; So So Bad. We got Room Service tonight and sent everything back, it was all terrible. The Chicken Pot Pie was a bowl of green mush and the steak was like a rock. Pics below..... My mother said she came on Thanksgiving and the Turkey was so raw, she couldn't eat anything. The manager said they would be credited & never were. Get a good Chef Hilton.

Yelp
Awesome place in a really good hotel. We had potato nachos to start (see picture, not what you'd expect). These were awesome, so good that we wrapped it up and brought it back up to our room as a late night snack. I had the pan-asian noodles, which obviously wasn't authentic but still very good. For dessert we had bananas foster, not the best I've had but up there in terms of quality. I'm glad I tried this place. Of course there are other better places in Binghamton but this one is great in a pinch!

Brian W.

Yelp
My Ribeye sandwich and fries were awesome and my drinks were strong. Can only give 4 stars because like all hotel bars, it's kind off odd, but that's just part of the fun.

Yelp
For a hotel restaurant I suppose it's ok. Food portions are on the smaller side and the prices are what you would expect at a hotel. Service was really good though! Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but if I we're staying in the hotel again, I wouldn't avoid it either.

Yelp
I travel a lot for work and have pretty low expectations for Hotel Restaurants, but sometimes after a long day at work it's easy to grab a quick bite to take to the room. I ordered a wedge salad and chicken strips. The Wedge salad was HORRIBLE. There was so much salad dressing on it it was pretty much inedible. Plus the Balsamic Glaze tasted like BBQ sauce. The chicken strips were dry and bland at best. I was there for 11 nights and that was my only time going there. I'd rather eat fast food in

Yelp
Was in town for the Luma Festival, so all the restaurants were mad houses. Deployed my trick of going to a hotel restaurant and, voila, no crowd! The food was pretty decent, too, I had the beer can chicken. It was yummy, with a few caveats: I assumed it would be sort of like a rotisserie chicken, but instead it was more like a fried chicken. A slightly crispy skin (but not battered) and dryer interior (but still moist enough and very good...just seemed slightly less healthy than I imagined) also, the breast was cut in half for some odd reason (so, I got the full leg portion, but just the wing and about less than half of the breast), The fried green beans were actually battered and deep fried. They were good, but I foolishly assumed they'd be regular green beans fried in butter, stupid me. The mashed potatoes were a huge helping and very good...with some sort of greens sprinkled on top, so a little healthier. The dinner salad was disappointing. Slightly less fresh and very cold with a selection of greens that did not excite...maybe because of the slightly less fresh part. The service was very fast and friendly. The husband enjoyed his reuben, though thought it was a little small. Best of all, no wait, were seated immediately in a mostly empty, but very nice dining room.

Yelp
Checked out the menu in my hotel room but apparently it was out of date and the several items that really appealed too me had been discontinued and the whole menu changed. Plus, I refuse to pay $18 for a hamburger and potato chips. Decided to look elsewhere.

Yelp
We ordered drinks and appetizers, which took forever even though the restaurant was nearly empty. It took at least a solid 15 minutes just to get our drinks and one was incorrect. When our appetizers came out, one of them needed to be corrected, which took even longer. With already such a long wait and already two inaccuracies, we decided to cut our losses and just have the apps and drinks. When it was time to pay the (very high) bill despite still not actually have eaten dinner, the server hovered over us, as if to make sure we were going to leave a decent tip. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE! We will not be back to this restaurant.

Yelp
Looks like it would be a fine restaurant but the food was inedible. We feel lucky we did not get sick. we ordered hamburgers, yellowtail and the seafood risotto. the fries were good. avoid!

Yelp
Delicious food, amazing but had to wait a little for the hostess to come. Btw its inside doubletree.

Ron B.

Yelp
Food was overall very good. It was a slow Monday night but I guess they were short handed. Service was ok but rather slow. Caesar salad was excellent, all entrees at our table were very good, no complaints. and chocolate trilogy dessert looked small but was very filling.

Yelp
Super delicious food. Amazing young, vibrant staff. Comfortable and quiet. Perfect addition to the hotel

Dea A.

Yelp
Sorry it's just awful! Taste terrible and people actually got sick to their stomach after eating it. Such a shame because it such a pretty place and such a great hotel. There's lots of other restaurants in the area so you would think they would try to do something about the reputation of this restaurant.

Heather K.

Yelp
I decided to make a reservation for our bachelorette party since we were staying in the hotel and I was so happy with that decision. Delicious food! I had the Australian beef tenderloin and it was some of the best tenderloin I've ever had. My sister had an appetizer of shrimp and they served the largest shrimp I had ever seen! Our server Nicole was amazing, she was incredibly genuine and friendly, not cheesy or pushy, and she let us make any changes to our food with no fuss or charges. I also really enjoyed the drink selection. The ambiance is quiet and modern, with a classy edge. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because the portion size is slightly smaller than traditional restaurants, but this didn't bother me as we shared appetizers and had room for dessert! And it wasn't so small that I felt I was being ripped off. I will definitely be returning to the River Bistro.

Yelp
Place is really nice and food was delicious. I had crawfish cakes over coleslaw and a beet/goat cheese salad topped off with a glass of pinot grigio. Service was great, food was tasty. Would have never considered coming here to eat if I didn't stay at the hotel that night (inside Double Tree). Glad I decided to stay for lunch after checking out

Yelp
meh. the place looks nice but i've never really been impressed with anything i've had here, and the menu is kinda small, there's nothing on it that really grabs me and makes me want to come back I've drank here a couple times and it's a little pricey, which is to be expected at a hotel bar, but the mixed drinks i've had here were not enjoyable, so I'd suggest sticking with beer. I've only eaten at the actual restaurant once, but I've had catering from the hotel twice, which is probably from the same kitchen, so look up my review for the doubletree for more details on that. ok so now onto my meal from river bistro. I went for restaurant week because the menu looked interesting, lots of places tend to step it up for restaurant week. the waitress seemed friendly and she kept up on the water refills. there were pacing issues throughout our meal but I don't think it was her fault. my friend and I both started off with the crab cake appetizers. there was a lot of crab in it, not much binder ingredients so there wasn't much of a crust. it wasn't the best crab cake i've ever had but it was decent. there was a blood orange sauce with it that tasted good on its own but it got lost in the mix when added with other ingredients. our entrees were then brought out before we were even done with the appetizers. my friend got the gnocchies, I tried a couple and I liked them. Actually, I liked the more than she did haha. I got the braised short rib and it was disappointing. It was done with a bbq sauce and the rib wasn't smoked, but I wasn't expecting it to be. when you don't smoke or grill ribs the fat flavor makes the dish too rich, so the flavor wasn't very good, and the texture was a little tough. it tasted like it had been sitting in sauce too, and when meat sits in sauce both the meat and the sauce seem to lose flavor. the ribs didn't seem seasoned too well either. I didn't like the kale that was served with it, but I'm not a fan of kale anyways. my friend tried it and she thought it was fine. the best part of the dish was the cornbread pudding, which was just a smear. the best part of my entree was a freaking smear. great. so then after our entrees we waited for what seemed like forever for our desserts to come. I got the chocolate bread pudding. the flavor was just alright, I was expecting it to be super chocolatey but it was more like a chocolate chip cookie. the texture is where it loses points here. It came out super hot and it was tough. obviously it was microwaved. sigh. I travel a lot for work and I spend a lot of time in hotels. So after a busy day I know once you get back to your hotel room you don't feel like going back out, and if that's the case then maybe you can find something satisfying on the menu here to take back to your room. but as a local, there's nothing really that would make me want to come back.

Yelp
Ate here Restaurant Week 2016 with another couple. Felt like we were eating in a warehouse: very stark, no atmosphere, not even table clothes, felt like eating in college cafeteria. Food was good" Fleet Street Oysters and Tomato Bisque excellent. Mrs. Lovette's Meat Pie was missing the root vegetables as advertised. Demon Spiced Chicken very good. Crab Cake mostly crab and excellent. Food was good but the lack of atmosphere would not bring me back here.
