‘You Could See Your Breath in the Bar’: What It’s Like Working at a Restaurant During an Ice Storm | Eater Portland

"I coordinated with the owners and team to figure out weekend staffing, and Davide and I split up employees to pick them up and drive them home so they wouldn’t worry about transportation; we had full staffing through the weekend because many people could walk. We closed early on Tuesday around 3 p.m. so everyone could get home safely, but stayed open other days—DJ Motaz played Saturday through Monday—and it was busy with regulars who knew we’d likely be open and wanted a place to go, so people enjoyed themselves despite the weather." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

I visited on a Saturday afternoon, and it was much less busy than I expected. Plenty of seating inside and outside. They have decently large tap list - a beer for everyone including sours and NAs. I ordered the River Pig Pilsner and it was nice and light, nothing special though (but what do you expect out of a Pilsner). My husband ordered the Bells Oberon Wheat Ale and it was delicious, although not an in-house brew. We also ordered wings with the dry rub and they were great - the rub was very flavorful and a bit spicy. The other menu items looked good but we just needed a snack. Honestly shocked this place was not more crowded. There is a TON of seating inside and outside and the vibes are great. I will be back!

River Pig is the perfect spot for a casual night out! I went with my boyfriend, and we had a blast. The atmosphere is laid-back but still buzzing with energy, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the evening. We ordered some wings and fries, and they were just right—crispy, flavorful, and with just the right amount of spice. I tried a drink called the Fresh Press, and it was delicious—refreshing, with a great balance of flavors. The service was friendly and quick, even with the weekend crowd. If you’re looking for a fun spot with good food, tasty drinks, and a lively vibe, River Pig is definitely worth a visit. We’ll definitely be back!

We visited on a Sunday evening and it wasn’t very busy, which was nice. The atmosphere had a great sports bar vibe and the location is definitely a plus. Unfortunately, the food didn’t meet our expectations—my wife, daughter, and mother-in-law could only manage a few bites of their meals. I had a burger, which was decent. I also ordered a drink, but despite the place being quiet, it didn’t arrive until after my food was served.

I need yall to trust me….the spicy pepperoni pizza, curly fries (we get no parm but it’s good with it still)… top-tier! We come at random times in the week and it’s consistently good! If you’re looking for a solid pizza, chill vibes on a random weekday or Sunday night, this is a great place to check out! (I promise I’m Not sponsored, just an internal fatty😆). Eli is usually our server and he’s wonderful!

This place is a great vibe. They have mezcal, which is already a win for me, as not many places can appreciate the culinary experience. The food is amazing for a “sports bar”; they have an amazing salmon plate which is phenomenal. Definitely recommend going there when Hanna or Reyna are there.

I’m a whole pizza snob so I expected a lot. The honey drizzle was a refreshing surprise. Try it and let me know. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere (to watch the Women’s March Madness game) but I’ll go back to try more food. I’m also trying to remember the location in Portland but it’s escaping my brain but be mindful that VooDoo Donuts is right down the street so if you need a taste of Oregon, this strip in Lower Greenville will take care of you!

Freshly made guacamole and juice in their cocktails. Everything was made with love. Great parking available on the side and front. Big patio! There’s a well priced happy hour. Chips and guac were only $5!!

Hate to give you guys anything less than 5 stars cause the service was on point. Ali was so nice and welcoming, and the chef himself came out and gave me my Spicy Chicken Sandwich. But the sandwich wasn't very tasty, unfortunately. The chicken pieces smelled very chickeny! And the bun didn't taste or feel very fresh tbh. It was just not a very tasty chicken sandwich/ Burger and not spicy at all...
