Good, but not great. Has potential!
Came in for a mid-week bite of dinner. Service was friendly - everyone had a smile and all staff acknowledged and thanked us for coming in. Just a bit slow and forgetful or overlooked when we needed certain items (took awhile to refill water, requested extra plates - had to ask twice). Very MINOR things because more importantly everyone there was happy to have us, and didn't make us feel rushed at all.
No reservations which I didn't think we needed, but no worries. We were seated right away in the bar area. I would have prefered an outdoor spot to enjoy the warm weather we've been having as well as check out the view of the harbor. No big deal. I'm sure it is nice.
The current menu is very simple. Which is actually a good thing. It gets hard when there are too many things to choose from. I do hope that they add beans and chorizo though - some of my favorites. :)
For drinks, we both went with Margaritas (no blended options here)
Smokey Blood Orange (Nosotros blanco, Nosotros mezcal, blood orange, agave, orange, lime) I have been learning that I like mezcal, and also like a bit of citrus in my drinks, so this was right up my alley.
Beach City Margarita (Lalo, Cointreau, orange, lime, agave) We both finished our drinks so I think it is safe to say we enjoyed both!
My friend and I shared:
Fresh guacamole - no complaints!
Shrimp Avocado & Lime Salad (Grilled shrimp, baby gem lettuce, piquillo
peppers, corn, grape tomatoes, avocado, queso fresco, tortilla chips, pepitas, cilantro lime vinaigrette) - fresh, decent amount of shrimps (wish there were a couple more though).
Spicy Shrimp Tacos (Spicy seasoned shrimp, onions, bell peppers, cabbage, chipotle crema on flour tortilla) I enjoyed this, but wish the tortillas held up better.
Carnitas Tacos (Slow cooked pork shoulder, guacamole, onions pickled onions, cilantro, grilled tomatillo salsa on corn tortilla) also very tasty, but again with the tortillas. However, I wouldn't ding them on this as it happens almost everywhere you go.
Overall, the ambiance is nice- right in the heart of King Harbor in what I think used to be the Brazilian BBQ spot. Across from R10 Social House.
