Bought a loaf of sourdough at the Ferry Building Farmers Market this morning. It was in a bag stapled shut. We’re home eating it now. The bread is delicious, after we cut the burnt crust off. Burnt on both the top and the bottom. Would prefer to see the loaf before we buy to ensure it’s not burnt instead of a sealed bag. 4 stars because it is delicious- 1 star for the burnt crust.

Amazing sourdough bread and even more amazing story behind the history of the Bakery. Took the Jalapeños Bacon Chedda and the K-Pop to a house party and was the star of the evening. No, me, the bread. I had a wonderful conversation with Rebecca there at the Bakery and also took two more loaves home. The Ube and the Truffle parm, black pepper. All fantastic. Can't wait to try the rest of the flavors.

Best sourdough bread I’ve ever had. I bought the garlic/thyme it’s very subtle and delicious. I love the size and shape too! Yum. Can’t stop eating it

I can't speak highly enough of this bakery. Z just delivered 40 OG Biscuits and my office is going crazy over them. Not only did they work with my small time frame but they DELIVERED! Lord knows my days are busy as can be so the fact that they were able to get these to me so quickly was the cherry on top. Z, obviously is adored for his delicious biscuits, but I must mention that his beaming smile and calm demeanor are also heavy contributors! These biscuits are packed full of flavor and a true love for the craft. Thank y'all so much! We will keep this bakery in our personal and professional rotation for many years to come.

Obsessed with this bread. I buy it from the Clement St Farmer’s Market and when I do it’s seriously the highlight of my week. I feel nourished and my tastebuds are so happy! While a loaf costs more than what you’d buy it for from the grocery store, that’s also a valuable lesson in the costs borne by our small locally owned business and the difficulty of competing with the big guys. Unfortunately my first time experience getting the bread was not a pleasant one. From the online pick up order to the first bite, I was sent to the wrong location due to an "Admin Error" and then was told to go back across town to the correct spot. after getting the famous Ube bread it was... Regular bread? Besides the purple color there was no difference in taste and texture besides a $16 price tag for single bread then your local bakery that sells the same bread for 1/3 of the price. Also this bread is NOT vegan, heres the list of artificial ingredients.

I was in town for one day and spent it walking around the city picking up various tasty treats for dinner. I needed a vehicle for my toppings, and these guys delivered me a superb sourdough. Absolutely stunning meal that I will remember for a long time.

Their Ube Sour Dough bread 🍞🍞🍞 is the most delicious sour dough I've ever eaten. Deliciously sponge-like which is perfect for soaking up butter or soup or sauce. The crust is perfectly browned and even has a slight sesame flavour. In three word it is absolute "YUM!!!" Better yet, it is yum-yum in my tum-tum! Thank you Rize Bakery for the flavour sensation and making my tummy smile. I feel the love 💚💜💚.

I come from a family of bakers: my mother was a baker, my brother was a baker, and I sliced their bread for several years in high school, it was my second job and my favorite job because I touched the fruits of my family labor and I earned good money for my wages. This bread is holy bread, it is transformational bread, it will change your life for the better, and before before you know it, you are living a life worth living. It's true. You are what you eat. It's true, you get what you put into life. This bread changed my life. It's been a shitty year, for at least four years, I cannot tell you what this bread is meant to me and my family. The struggle is real. I'm so incredibly grateful to have come across this bread, one day it showed up at the community fridges in San Rafael and it changed my life. I called my mother called my brother and I told him what is this?! This is amazing bread it just showed up! We started having phone conversations about this. FaceTime about this bread, eating this bread across state divides of California and Idaho and it has brought us closer together. My 83 year old mother who is dying of cancer wants to visit more often because of this bread. If I don't have this bread when she comes to my apartment she has questions. My son is eternally grateful when I give him buttered slices of OG, especially the night before he goes back to school on Sunday night. I found out I was able to afford this bread because of the Civic Center farmers market match for EBT, and then I also discovered that they sell day old bread. Win-win! Now I can have this bread every week and I get to see the smiling faces of the employees of the beautiful bakery that I totally adore and I look forward to seeing every week! Thank you so much for my fabulous stickers and I going to put them on my early 90s 3800 GM engine low rider car blasting Tupac and Biggie and use my RIZE UP bread bag everywhere I go. You rock!

While I'm a sucker for the sourdough at Rosalind Bakery, I also LOVE Rize Up's sourdough. I cannot say enough good things about the loaves I've bought here. So far, I've tried the Ube and Olive Oil/Truffle/Parmesan/Black Pepper. I fully intend on purchasing more flavors, but of the two I've tried, I have a hard time picking a favorite. Ube: exquisite balance of sweet and sour. While I normally wouldn't expect ube to work with sourdough, the ube sourdough loaf is *chef's kiss.* Olive Oil/Truffle/Parmesan/Black Pepper: if you're looking for a and unique savory sourdough loaf, this is it. The parmesan and black pepper really shine through, and there is a generous amount of olives sprinkled throughout the loaf itself. This, for me, goes perfectly with some mashed avocado, because the relative neutral flavor of the avocado complements all the savory goodness that is sprinkled throughout the dough. My one and only gripe is that I wish Rize Up were more accessible in wholesale grocery stores. (I would LOVE for Rize Up to be stocked one day at Whole Foods!) But overall, it's fairly easy to place orders through Rize Up's website and have loaves ready for pickup or delivery in a few days' time.

OG log and Jalapeño with Bacon are favorites at home. Looking forward to when nationwide shipping becomes an option so we can enjoy the good of SF at home in NYC. Usually avail at Rainbow Grocer, and the farmers market in the Richmond.

Olive bread with actual olive? Who knew? Walked over to 1160 Howard. No actual store but actual baking house. In order to buy, go online and order and pick up. I did not realize that. I think the owner helped me. There were three things I can buy so I ended up with olive bread. The other was a baguette and a roll. There's a definite crunch and as the pic shows, an actual olive in my first bite. He said a counter may be added soon but not soon enough.

Rize Up makes delicious artisanal breads that are unique. Even better, they are doing good things and helping others. This is an SF gem that's not to be missed!

I splurged on two of their breads - the OG/the original and the cider soaked seeded bread. The pan loaf weighted 2.2 lbs so dence and heavy bread but delicious. The both breads were wonderful and solid breads, I just can not justify the price for them.

Rize Up Bakery is a Black business that was started during the Covid pandemic.. the signage at the food stand has an image of a Black woman with a big Afro, a clenched fist and a big smile-an hint a Black business made the bread.. Rize Up Bakery was at West Oakland Farmers Market. offerings: baguettes, sourdoughs, pan loaf. eats: Everything seasoning (15) -the outer texture was chewy -the inner bread was soft, similar to many sourdough & my fav, Semifredd. -the everything seasoning was subtle, not pervasive -would reorder the OG, the original (12). 4.5 stars good basics crumbs: -available at various farmers markets, groceries, retail stores. -no samples were distributed, just bags of sourdough..... covid protocols no doubt.

I've been wanting to try this bread for quite some time, and haven't been to a farmers market to find it. Lo and behold I found it in SF at BiRite! Jackpot! The price is only 99 cents more than the farmers market prices. I went with the OG loaf this time and it is honestly the very best bread I've had. (I'm a huge Josey Baker Bread fan, too.) The crust is the perfect toast and crisp with a great chew. The inside is beautiful and so moist. I can't wait to try more loaf varieties and support this business that has a wholesome mission statement.

Serendipity. After a quick study of the menu and forwarding it to a friend, I knew that I would be getting things here. I shared several slices with my family and refrigerated the unfinished portion. I reheated slices throughout the week in the toaster oven and it is a bit drier when reheated so do enjoy it while fresh. The following week, I noticed a new cookie flavor, the bacon snicker doodle cookie (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=IkAVwFD44ADWR2AiI1yPCA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); being a huge snicker doodle fan from the Baker's Street Cookie Co. (how many of you remember them?), I enjoyed it but don't get your hopes up too high with expectations. The bacon portion is generous and it is tasty and not overdone but overall it didn't wow me. I will stop by this stand again today and perhaps try something new, like the "K-pop", Gochujang bread. I also had the pleasure to meet the the magazine pictured owner and he shared that he didn't expect to be on the cover and have such a well written article about his company and him. Stop by next time you're at the market on a Saturday.

I have not been to their physical location, only their stand at the farmer's market! I splurged on a garlic confit sourdough ($16 feels pretty steep for bread) because I haven't bought a proper bread in a while and why not live a little. They were out of their scallion and sesame loaf, which maybe indicates it might be one of their best, but the garlic confit one was pretty darn good too! Big chunks of garlic that were savory and tasty (but maybe still worth avoiding before date night) and a great crust. I probably wouldn't splurge on it for every-day eating, but definitely worth a special occasion or a farmers market where you feel like spending a lil crazy.

Top tier bread! A lot of really interesting sourdough flavors that work so so well. Got the gochujang (kpop) and the jalapeño and cheddar loaf and they are both amazing. Would highly recommend. Texture of the bread was on point with a nice crust but so soft and moist on the inside.

Damnnnnnnn, favorite bread... probably ever. Chef Z is kind, thoughtful, and innovative. Their mission is on point and their breads are made from Organic and sustainable high-quality ingredients PLUS they give back to the community. Believe the hype. These folks walk the walk.

Such good bread and the owner is one of the nicest guys I've ever not met (lol lots is phone calls and IG messages) we used the garlic loaf to enjoy with our spicy bbq shrimp, it was perfect to dip in all the spicy goodness. I used the olive loaf to make myself a Turkey sandwich which was delicious. Can't wait to try more of his wonderful breads!

Oh my goodness - why is this bread so good? We received the OG loaf as part of a local food delivery bundle, and the sourdough crust, crunch, chew, flavor, and crumb are the finest I've ever tried (and I've tried many - Josey Baker Bread, Backhaus, Jane, Tartine, Acme, etc. etc. etc.) and this one takes the cake. We didn't even get around to trying it until 2 days after we got it, and it still tasted like it was fresh from the oven. How do they get the crust so thin? How do they get it so sour?!!! The only drawback from having tried this bread is now I feel entirely discouraged at my own feeble attempts to bake sourdough - mine never turn out like this! BRB about to go eat my fourth slice....

Tried this place for the first time today at their Ferry Building stand. WOW! So good!! Their Ube cookie is something I will dream about. Can't wait to try all of the other things on their menu!

Truly wonderful people working at this commercial bakery, and their bread is amazing. The OG sourdough is the best I've had in quite some time. Check their website for their retail distribution locations, or order online _in advance_ to pick up at the bakery.

I got the ube sourdough in Summer 2023 from farmers market. Although the $18 plus tax price is not friendly to consumers. I think it is good to try but unfortunately I won't be buying it again. What happened to good basic bread at affordable price? In France this was easy to find. I make my own bread now.

The quality of the sourdough is top notch. Chewy, nutty and nice crust - the proprietary blend with spelt and other whole grains definitely helped My problem with this place is the ube bread. It lists ube flavoring, sweet potato flavoring, purple yam powder among its ingredients. Even the coconut milk does not seem like authentic coconut milk, but rather, comes from a can At $15+ a loaf, I expect not only the best in taste, but also quality bread that is made from scratch, using the simplest, purest and most raw ingredients. Unfortunately the ingredient list is more akin to fast food chains than a high end baker

Nothing is better than having such rich and just perfectly crisp bread !! We are so lucky to have found this place as we don't live in SF, but thankfully they offer shipping !! The size of the loaves are so very generous, and greatly priced. They even have a vegan option, and if you're willing to share the love, options to donate when ordering online ! Can't wait to eat the best bread on earth again

I went to the bakery only to discover that it was a pop up in one of the workers told me that I was able to purchase the bread at several outlets around town. The pop-up is available on Saturdays. I can't remember what time it was. After purchasing my bread Garlic, Olive and pepper loaf from Gus market. I must go back and get another loaf it was crazy good.

I've purchased a few different loaves from various coffee shops around SF, including: Everything Pan, Sesame Scallion, Jalapeno Bacon Cheddar, and OG. It's pricey (~$15/loaf) but super tasty! I definitely recommend trying it out. Hey Neighbor in Portola also does individual toast using bread from Rize Up as well!

I find the bread to be good... but I couldn't taste the truffle or black pepper for their olive, truffle, black pepper, Parmesan bread. I think I barely taste the either ingredients and find the texture to be on par with the good bakeries out in SF. However. $16 for a small loaf of bread is insanely expensive especially when I can get much tastier and larger bread from tartine and josey baker bread (my fave bread of all time) for 33% less. I do feel good that the $16 is going to a new small business, but I don't see the value tbh. Hope they do better to justify the prices. I'll stick to tartine or josey for now.

If you haven't had this bread, you are missing out. It is so tasty and obviously incredibly fresh. If I lived closer I'd try all his breads. I'm still hoping to get a chance to try the ube loaf. Fingers crossed. We tried the garlic, lemon, thyme and the jalapeño, cheddar, bacon loaves. Neither flavor was overpowering but a nice change from plain sourdough. My boyfriend always says he doesn't like sourdough and he really liked this. According to him "it's not too sour." We had it fresh without anything added, toasted, toasted with butter and eggs, turned into garlic bread and broiled in the oven. If I had gotten a sweeter loaf I would've made it into bread pudding. It's good on its own or paired with any number of things. The process to purchase and pickup was seamless. Can't wait to try more flavors!

I read a great review in the SF Chron so I was happy to see a loaf of olive/ truffle /black pepper/parm at the Berkeley Bowl. Sadly there were only 3 olives in the loaf, possibly some parm, maybe some truffle, but it was hard to discern. Unfortunately the black pepper seemed to be concentrated in the last third of the loaf, so it left a harsh (digestive) impression. I did like the crust, texture and moisture of the loaf so I would probably try their plain sourdough if it's not more than $10. But I wouldn't spring $16 again for the olive/black pepper loaf.

I love Rize up so much. It's my newest addiction. I have loved every loaf I've tried. I usually buy the bread from Bi-Rite or Luke's Local. All of the flavors are unique but not overly so. Always just right.

I ordered bread to be shipped and it was totally fine...was too lazy to drive to Oakland to pick it up...happy to have options. I ordered the garlic confit and the ube loaf so share with my neighbor. Then she leaves for LA and I have all the bread to myself!!! I love it, the garlic confit was amazing...along with the ube! I am ordering the black sourdough for this week...can't wait. Thank you so much for your vision/cause...and I support not only because the bread is amazing, but because the owner is a pretty awesome human being! Bored with plain sourdough? Rize Up has a lot of options - Masala, Ube, Gochjang, Sesame/Scallion, Olive/Pepper/Parm. Heads up: [a] parts of the crust can be a bit waxy / soft... it may be because the loaves are stuffed with various ingredients; [b] prices are high... but hopefully they can figure out how to get them down so that their food is more accessible/affordable to a broader set of folks.

Bomb ass bread! And I've only had the OG loaf, but it gets rave reviews from all my friends and I. Since I live in Oakland and do pick up at the local coffee shop, I can only get the loaves available for Friday bakes. I'd love to try the garlic and ube loaves one day, but for now I am totally happy with the OG. Fresh out of the bag, the loaf is beautiful and toasty brown on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside and delicious plain or paired butter, jam, or cheese. You can't go wrong with this loaf as an accompaniment to breakfast or dinner, it's great for all occasions and will be a hit at any gathering (socially distant of course or with your pod peeps). This is definitely something I will keep ordering and sharing because everybody deserves to try great sourdough!

Not just sourdough! Discovered their ube/toasted coconut, bacon snickerdoodle and sesame seed cookies at the Inner Richmond farmer's market last weekend. Cleared their on-hand stash immediately.

The Masala bread is one of the best food creations in the entire Bay Area! I am still working my way through their fantastic varieties of unique fusion bread.

Truly the best sourdough I've ever had. I also love following their IG rize_up_sourdough which captures the authentic voice of the bread maker himself. Happy to support a rising micro-bakery but also extremely happy to fill my stomach with delicious freshly made bread. Try not to eat the entire loaf in one sitting! ;)

We found out about Rize Up via locale since it was a bread option. They started during COVID and are local and Black owned. They have cool bread flavor options like ube and gochujang (I'll have to try these at some point! We got the black sesame and scallion. The scallion is fairly subtle but adds a different dimension of savoriness. Most importantly, the sourdough had a great crumb and an amazingly chewy inside that's just the right texture. I'll definitely be ordering more from them soon!

I was looking forward to finally tasting their bread but was quicky disappointed. I picked up a loaf of their ube sourdough from a vendor in Oakland. It was slightly on the drier side; it tasted overly sour and there was only a hint of ube flavor. And at $16, I think it is too high for the lack of quality.

I bought the baguette for $10.00. what a rip off. The bread is nothing special. You can get better quality in your upscale grocery store. Shame on them to charge that much for a plain baguette!

Literally Ridiculous. Every time i have this it gets better and better. The options of flavors, all baked to perfection and fresh. I can't say enough good things about this... get yourself some!!!

$10 for a baguette??? Get outta here!!! The taste wasn't much different from a $2 baguette from the grocery store.

Discovered this baker at the North Beach farmers market Saturdays and yes, it's not cheap, but boy is the bread fantastic! For crust lovers, it crackles and stands up so nicely to olive oil or other dipping sauce. The inside of the bread is soft and moist. I've tried the jalapeño cheddar, the garlic confit, and the black pepper olive. The jalapeño cheddar had the strongest flavor whereas the garlic was the most subtle. I would have wanted more olives and didn't need the truffle. We just eat fresh with olive oil. No need for much else!

Simply the best bread I have ever tasted. Not by a little. By a country mile. A fresh loaf of the bacon jalapeño cheddar can make your eyes roll back in your head. It's that good.

The first time I picked up my warm bread from Rize Up, the loaf arrived at home about half eaten. It looked as though a wild animal had had at it. The bread is excellent. I've received two deliveries so far and they have been flawless. The proprietor is lovely to interact with. It feels so right to order from a small business in these tunes, or any time. My partner likes to make French Toast. This is the best bread for that. It is moist and dense.

I hate to write a three star review but I've purchased two loaves of bread from here through Locale and both were hard/seemed stale and over baked. I've purchased the OG Sourdough and the cinnamon spice loaf. The OG sourdough didn't taste like anything and the cinnamon spice loaf tasted like sourdough. Both were impossible to cut with my bread knife. I really wanted to like the bread because I love the mission of this bakery. But the bread isn't worth it and went stale fast.

My favorite thing about a business is when they're product is as outstanding as the people who run it. This is definitely the case with Rize Up Bakery. Azikiwee is not afraid to try new flavors, and because of this, he has many flavors of bread, each of them incredible in their own way. My favorites are the OG, the garlic confit (mm....), and the ube! The bread has a great crust, impressive lift, and perfect texture. But as I was saying, outstanding product and outstanding people. Azikiwee is one of the sweetest, nicest, charming, most generous people I know. He also gives back to his community, donating to local non-profits, or offering buy-one-donate-one loaf to people in our community who need it. I'm so happy that Rize Up has opened in our community, and I'll be getting their bread regularly.

Small joys really matter to me and I'm at a point in my life where I want great bread or no bread at all. Rize Up has such great quality sourdough that I decided to sign up for a subscription and get a different flavor delivered to my house every two weeks. I don't drive so I am very grateful that they offer a delivery option.
