Roadhouse 29 Replaces Two Birds One Stone With Smoked Meats and Burgers - Eater SF

"Roadhouse 29 is a new restaurant focusing on smoked meats, transformed from Two Birds One Stone by Chef Douglas Keane. The venue offers a variety of smoked meats, including beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and tri tip, all smoked over staves from Freemark Abbey winery's cabernet barrels. The menu features approachable comfort food and includes a no-tipping policy aimed at paying a living wage to all employees. The restaurant operates with counter service at lunch and full service at night." - Ellen Fort

I would not return, the burger and cheese were burnt outside, fairly rare inside and bottom bun was wet! ($14) severed with a huge side of sweet pickles? My husbands ribeye sandwhich had no texture ($17) how is that even possible, everything is ala cart 10oz Canada Dry ginger ale & 12oz coke $6.00, 1 basket of delicious fries $4.00 (?) were the best thing we had to eat. You grab a menu on the way in, order at the counter, find a place to sit and they bring the order out...no real service. We were here at lunch time. *I wish I had removed the bun or cut in half the burger for the picture.

Reasonably priced and less fussy than most of Napa valley. No corkage fees and no tipping! Staff was friendly and food service was remarkably quick. Food itself is a bit light on seasoning, but meats are high quality. Chips and pimento cheese definitely unique and fun to share. Wine list isn't overwhelming, but with free corkage certainly doesn't put a damper on the menu. Would certainly return for a relaxed bite!

Just what we needed. Great fried chicken and corn bread. Also nice to have a beer after so much wine!!

Amazing service, super friendly staff, the proprietor actually let us come later than the last meal serving time. We had a meat platter consisting of Ribs, pulled pork, and brisket with house made coleslaw and house made pickles. Too die for!! We literally could not stop eating. We will definitely be back!!

We ordered loaded fries that were super delicious, the bacon cheeseburger which was very good and perfectly cooked to order, medium rare, and the tri tip sandwich was very tasty. Lots of good bbq sauces at the table. Great service, friendly staff, a must go to place to eat :-)

Atmosphere is farm style and country style bar feeling. Any time before dinner means you order at the counter so very fast food feeling. The pork sandwich was very salty. Sesame bun was a pretty cheap substitute for great bread available in napa. The service was non existence. We asked the manager Vic or Nick for another beer and he acted like we were going to run out without paying. Instead of smiling and asking about our meal or offering the types of beer available he stood there and said credit card? I need payment. Very abrasive. Won't be back. Too many great restaurants with great service in Napa Valley.

This place has a good amount going for it, though the main courses left us both disappointed. The location has plenty of parking and is adjacent to a tasting room, in case you need to load up on food before hitting another winery. The draft list was marginal but I'm not looking for good draft beer at a lot of places in Napa Valley. Note: there is no corkage fee, so if you'd like to enjoy your own wines from the day, they let you do so. I got the half rack of ribs with onion rings. The onion rings were fantastic (beer-battered) and not overly crispy. The ribs were pretty plain on their own, with a hint of smoking but no real spices or sauces applied. They provide you with BBQ, Korean BBQ, and Spicy BBQ sauces at the tables. The blandness of the ribs just didn't sit well. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich and mac and cheese. The pulled pork was also bland, just cooked meat without much spice or sauce action. The mac and cheese was ok; comes with fried shallots on top. I think the blandness of the main dishes were a bit offputting, as even the sauces didn't seem to salvage them much. I really liked the onion rings though. I'd probably give the place a 3.5 or 3.75, as a 3.0 feels too low.
