I went once with a coworker and didn't have a chance to eat, so wanted to make sure I got back. I was not disappointed with the return trip. Family loved the pizzas. The cheese spread for the pretzels was fantastic. The beer outstanding. Had the Devil Dog French Toast and decided it might possibly be better than Founders CBS.

Google
Amazing experience. I tried ice cream man and ever since, I have always wanted to visit, and I was not disappointed. Their beers are among my favorites and so is this brewery. The pretzels and cheese are phenomenal-especially the cheese sauces. Great atmosphere. Bathrooms are nice and clean. The server was very friendly and helpful. They have games to play if you bring a group of friends. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Google
Our first visit treated us to great beer, great service, and some delicious food. Like may breweries this seems to have started industrial but has evolved into a modern atmosphere for all. The lighting begins with a final point chandelier, but it is the Edison bulbs, wood tables, down lit wood bar and more that provide the feel at ROAK. The girls in our party both enjoyed a cranberry sour while I enjoyed a Blow Your Face Off 100 IBU beer and a NE IPA called Hopgazer. The BYFO was excellent while Hopgazer was a good NE IPA. Most of us enjoyed pizzas which were quite good, but the big surprise was THE BEST bar pretzels ever! If that was not enough live music filled the room, Sundays are Blues nights and the two piece brand was great, with acoustic blues.

Brandy Layne

Google
They have a cozy, Rick atmosphere. The pizza was great. The beer selection is fantastic; and tasty. There is limited seating; be sure to go on off hours. The service was the least desirable part of the experience, it was just okay. Though we are looking forward to going back.

Google
Wonderful bar tender, clean and fun atmosphere! The beer was very tasty and the pretzel’s were to die for!!

Eric Jimenez

Google
Some beers are good, you can find them in others breweries though. The place is nice.

Briana Emerson

Google
Fantastic pizza and beer selection. Good atmosphere. Music choice could use improvement. Great service too. This is sure to become a local favorite!

Robert Goodrich

Google
Actually it was Dark Horse, not Roak, but the food was great, the beer was really good, and the service was good too.

Eric C.

Yelp
The pizza is outstanding with many selections, they have a very large variety of beer from light to a very heavy stout. The outside seating area in the summer is excellent and has its very own horseshoe shaped bar. But the thing that keeps us coming back is the staff.

Don W.

Yelp
This is a local spot for me. As many times that I've been here, I was shocked to see I hadn't Yelped about it. Today was during the Blues Festival downtown Marshall. I was planning on spending the day (and night) listening to good music, eating stuff I shouldn't, and drinking sub-par beer from a beer tent. I thought I should start it out with something good and positive before I filled it with regret. Dark Horse has lots of things going for it. Indoors and outdoors. Food and drink. If you are Yelping now, and it's a weekend, you got to stop by. Everything on the menu is good, but for me the pizza is where they shine. If it's the weekend and you're not looking for pizza and beer, you need punched in the face. Go with a flight to make sure you narrow it down to something delicious for the evening. You sell yourself short if you only try one beer. If you come in asking for something like a Budweiser or Coors, punch yourself again. This isn't that place. Grab some merchandise before you leave.

Yelp
I love this place. I've been quite a few times. The service is good, the beer is my favorite and the food is excellent. I have tried several of the sandwiches and they make my favorite beer: Scotty Karate. This time around, I did try the root beer as is teas hot, midday and something a bit lighter felt appropriate. They have a large parking lot. The inside is fairly small and they have a large outdoor area. One section of the outdoor area is dog friendly with a separate entrance. If you are in the area, like good beer or good sandwiches, stop in.

Jim H.

Yelp
Very friendly atmosphere. Excellent service. Wide variety of styles of beer. The Sapient Trip was delicious.

Derek S.

Yelp
Tried this place with a couple coworkers. The service was pretty quick and the ambiance was a quiet pub. We went on a weeknight so not much was going on. We all got pizza, and they were pretty good. The crust was a little dry on the outside, but generous toppings made up for it. I got the Hawaiian but modified it to be more of a BBQ chicken pizza. I'd go back.

Sondra C.

Yelp
I ate here with a tour group , Eagle Rock tours from Ohio. We were on a Mystery trip this week and arrived here for dinner. The food was excellent, the service was top notch and the restaurant had a great ambiance. You must visit if you are ever in Marshall.

Elyse J.

Yelp
Megan's playlist was AMAZING for a Sunday! We are out of towners and everyone there was so friendly- from the staff to the other patrons.. 10/10 we will be back!

L S.

Yelp
Wow, we want to come in the summer to see a outdoor concert, the venue looks fun or just chill in the amazing outdoor space with the pups. Raspberry Ale beer was on point. They have 17$ 5 oz pours of 5 beers, saddly they were in plastic cups, not glass- better in glass. Beer is great and Dark Horse was bought up by ROAK... not familiar with that company but we see it happen more and more. Loved the inside bar where it has mugs on the ceiling. Lots of personal mugs on the ceiling. Fun place and they have a gift shop and some nice looking deli items to go. We did not eat here, this day they had 4 soup options. Food looks good, beers are extra tasty and the Vibe is Great. GO!!!

Ray C.

Yelp
Dark Horse Brewing Company is a place you can have fun and be a little noisy. We sampled several of the brews and enjoyed a Detroit style pizza. I live in the Metro Detroit area and was hesitant on ordering it. It was amazingly good. I highly recommend it. Our server was very good and made recommendations that were helpful. One of my favorite episodes of Moonlighting was Mattie and David debating the difference between having a fun time and a fine time. Dark Horse is where you go to have a fun time. I am glad I can enjoy both fun dining and fine dining.

Paula K.

Yelp
Serving outstanding breakfasts in the common. Friday-Sunday. Won't regret going, friendly staff, chef and crew are amazing.

Aimee P.

Yelp
Food was good but not great. Not a big beer person. I tried a couple till I found one that was ok. The waitress was excellent and helped me narrow down my selection to something I'd like. It was a quiet Thursday when we went.

Karley M.

Yelp
Dark horse has always been a staple when it comes to brewpubs. Crooked tree IPA is as good as the first time they made it. I love sitting towards the bar with all of the hanging mugs. The food is also amazing and you mustn't pass up the pizza. Staff is always super friendly and their beer garden in the summertime is so fun, especially with all the dogs. If you haven't been, you should go. It's a Michigan gem.

Amy H.

Yelp
Great brewery with excellent food! The pizza is the best in town. The Cuban sandwiches are also really good. And the black onion soup is my favorite.

Scott A.

Yelp
What a great lunch spot in Marshall! Easy parking, friendly staff, good food and great beer list! (They don't have wine, just an FYI...) Cute atmosphere with all the beer mugs from the ceiling and on the walls. The Chicken Sandwich with Michigan cherries & celery is a must-try!

Cindy S.

Yelp
Came here for a couple beers and some food. Was cut off after only 2 beers. Waitress was rude. Will never come here again.

Melissa M.

Yelp
I hadn't been here in YEARS, but came back a few months ago with a friend. Honestly, he's not even a big beer person and he loved it as did I. It hadn't changed at all and the food was amazing. The cheese was so good, which I know is a small thing but, yeah. Only thing I don't like is how small this place is but hey. Can't wait to come back.

Erin M.

Yelp
We were driving threw the area and decided to stop because they are pet friendly. Their beer garden is GREAT! We started with their Garlic Parmesan Wings. Yummy! These are a must have!!! Their hot sauce came on the side and it was very good! I had their chicken sandwich. Their pickles on the sandwich was VERY good. I asked if they sold them separately and unfortunately they did not. Again, a must have! My husband had their calzone and he said it was OK. Nothing spectacular. I would have given them a 5 star but our service was very slow and he forgot things a couple of times. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt because there were only 2 servers in the beer garden on a Sunday afternoon.

Jenn O.

Yelp
This is the coolest brewery. They had 3 different bars serving different beers. The atmosphere is super cool. Plenty of seating even with the parking lot super packed. Their wings were awesome, however I wouldn't recommend the pizza. The pizza crust was weird...maybe gluten free or something...just didn't taste right to us. I would love to go again to try their other stuff.

Daniel I.

Yelp
I've liked Dark Horse for a long time. Been going there since college a decade ago. Haven't been since Covid, so hoped Roak would be doing good things. Unfortunately that was not the case. Beer menu was severely limited for a Friday night, one party member finished a beer and noticed mold growing inside the glass, and I got violently ill an hour after eating a Greek salad.... Alas. The times they are a changin.

Emily M.

Yelp
The food here is awesome. It's a bar, so 21 and up, but does not have bar food! Pizza is top notch and don't skip the drummies. They are the best I have ever had in my life - no exaggeration. Fast, friendly service always.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
On the way here I read about the brewery tour and thought what the heck, something different to do and for $10 ea it would be worth it. However their website is wrong because it's $20 a person now. So we decided to skip that and spend it on beer. As far as first impressions,.... Mine was that it's small and kind of dirty looking. The menus had stuff all over them which is gross in my opinion. I love the walls and ceilings with all the glasses though the fish tanks were cool. The service was good and quick and they were helpful. The place was packed but we got a seat right a way just by luck. We wish more beers would have been available then what they had but we found some good choices. They had 12 available to choose from. Reading reviews I was thinking that they didn't have flights but they do. Five 5 oz samples for $17.50. Pretty common pricing. The beers were better than expected and better than I have had at some other places recently. They were accurately described in the menu and I really enjoyed them. For one we agreed on beer I was shocked. We both loved the JAA Black Raspberry Stout and the Toonilla Coffee Stout. The Please the 5th Imperial Stout I also liked but for me it was a bit sweet. The Raspberry Ale smells great but to light of a beer for my liking. The Rain in the Blood my husband liked but I didn't. 4 or if 5 isn't bad though!! For the drive and ambiance though I probably wouldn't return but I would buy the beers at home.

Nate L.

Yelp
good pizza, and good beer. Sandwich wasn't great, but filled a belly. Great atmosphere! Very cool area out back - great for small to medium concerts.

Kristy H.

Yelp
What fun place with a unique atmosphere! I had the French toast devil dog...OH EM GEE! It tasted like dessert in a glass! We ordered the Brussels sprout appetizer and it was terrible-raw inside and burnt outside. The beer made up for it and we can't wait to go back and order a pizza or calzone after watching them come out of the kitchen.

Rachel E.

Yelp
Good beer. Good food. Good atmosphere. I really don't understand the bad reviews. Don't expect gourmet food at a bar? Granted I was a few beers in but the pizza, pretzel and spinach artichoke dip were delicious.

Bryant D.

Yelp
Excellent place. Totally casual. Best Detroit pizza I've had in a decade and the beers are of course awesome.

Mark P.

Yelp
Disappointing. So walked in, walked about, and walked out. Was kinda sorta confusing. Bar and tables were full up. No one said hi or hello walking through and it looked like I could possibly hang out at one of the tables in the empty biergarten outside, maybe ...until someone showed up? Honestly, I just don't know and didn't feel like waiting with my tongue out. Super cool space. Looks like lots of fun anyway. Was first on my list of things to do passing thru. Shoot.

Amy W.

Yelp
So our morning trip back home starts here. I have to say that after this flight things get a little fuzzy. But according to him "that was the point!" Any way. This may have been my favorite be spot of the trip. Look how adorable it is!! And these pictures only show the inside. Ok. For starters,.the inside of the bar is pretty small. But adorable!! The bartenders were attentive and quick. I would have never realized there was a giant outdoor seating area until I left! Holy smokes! It is huge!! Very cool location. I would come back without question.

Angela M.

Yelp
Just stopped by Dark Horse last night. The food, beer and environment were AWESOME! I appreciate the friendly and attentive staff... Especially through these hard times!!! Highly recommend stopping by. :)

Emma C.

Yelp
Overall pretty decent. Customer service is great! Their salads are pretty average, nothing to speak of and the pizza is pretty good, definitely better than the salads!! Not that impressed overall though. In general the food isn't amazing.

Deanna D.

Yelp
Nice little brewery with food available. The service was exceptional. The guy recommended some beers to sample. I settled for the fruity one mixed with pink lemonade. (I'm not a beer drinker, just a traveller that loves trying new things). The food looked and smelled amazing but we already had dinner plans. We stopped at their shop bought T-shirt's and headed on our way.

Charlotte R.

Yelp
We went at about 6pm on a Monday. Family of 4, two kids, but older- 12 and 15. We got a table right away. It was a corner booth, cool made from a fish tank, but it wasn't comfortable at all. It was very busy and noisy and hectic. So maybe a fun environment, but not overly relaxing. I have been hearing good things for a while and we just haven't had the opportunity to stop. And I was kind of underwhelmed. Nothing so great and had me wanting to come back again. My husband enjoyed both beers he had, two ambers. It was busy and they seemed to have lots of regulars, so maybe it just wasn't for us... but we probably won't be back.

Tia L.

Yelp
I've been here for an event before and they have done so much renovating since. They built on a raised back patio and it's giant for their own events they have going on throughout the year. Getting down to the beer, they have something for everyone. Whether you like your beer hoppy or not bitter at all, you'll be set. Went for their beer brunch. Had a beermosa which was a mix of their raspberry ale and orange juice (you can pick whatever beer you want) and it was super good. Also tried their corned beef hash quesadilla and their sausage gravy breakfast pizza. HAPPY! Both really flavorful and did not disappoint. Definitely stop by here if you get a chance! Well worth it.

Ainsley E.

Yelp
Had a nice meal and some beers here. No complaints from those who ordered the Oh No! Sandwiches, except they could have been spicier. My Black Onion soup was a pretty typical french onion soup. My side salad was fresh and I liked how the onions and tomatoes were like little pico de gallo instead of big chunks. Service was a little slow but it was busy in there at lunch. I was surprised they didn't have a wider selection on tap but I'm pretty picky with beer so I didn't order any.

Joe T.

Yelp
The food is awesome! Everything we had there was SO delicious! We especially recommend the soft pretzels with beer cheese! Also the salads and pizzas were yummy. The beer is great too. Our servers are always friendly and fast. This place is a diamond in the rough. Make the trip - it's worth it! Biggest mug club in the state!!

Derek F.

Yelp
Ok why not drop a review for Dark Horse, years ago I would of went 5 stars but my last few visits were a little lackluster. Maybe I've been spoiled by all the great breweries throughout Michigan or it could be the wierd attitude from everyone that works here, or the food that just hasn't done it for me on my last few visits. The beer I like but I've found other breweries beer that lately I've enjoyed more. Dark Horse still has a special place in my heart and I enjoy the dark taproom and back patio but unfortunately your no longer my #1. I'm still gonna go 4 stars but it's starting to feel more like 3.

Taylor A.

Yelp
Dark Horse has a bakery next door to their brewery. So my friend and I decided to check it out. I got an almond croissant and their mocha. The croissant was delicious. I had to hold myself back from getting another! And the mocha was very good too. There are about 3 tables inside, which we were hoping for more seating space but luckily the tables were open at that time. There's also a swing inside!

Mike K.

Yelp
This place just rocks! Yes, it is the bar/brewery that has a season or two of a tv show about them. They have made the outside area such an awesome place to drink beer, talk to friends, eat dinner or listen to live music. Most importantly, they are very military and veteran friendly there. I can't say enough good things about this place. GOOD FOOD GOOD BEER GOOD PEOPLE GOOD PLACE If you haven't been here yet, why are you still reading this??? Go get to Dark Horse!!!

Michael R.

Yelp
Dark Horse is great Beer. The brewery is very cool, totally laid back. Come in have a couple of pints, and some great food. Friendly service one of our favorite 1 hr road trips. Highly recommend if you like great craft beers, nice crowd, and excellent food. Love this place.

Kristen C.

Yelp
We had this brewery on our list for a few years. This place is huge and we made the rounds. Store has a wide variety of brew and merch at standard prices. The food here wasnt mind blowing. We shared the Mug Club sandwich ($10) that was basically a flat bread-shared was enough for a good sized snack. Could have used more toppings as it was mainly dough but you will have that. Beer flights arent cheap-$17- but brew overall is good. Atmosphere is awesome indoor and out in the patio. Clean. Attentive staff and friendly. Heated women toilet seats and clean bathrooms-big score! Went to the coffee store and its really a MUST. The macaroons are to die for and the coffee is maybe better than the beer. Take a bag home for like $15. Staff in there equally fabulous. Overall good stop...we will be back. TIP: Go to the Dark Horse coffee shop and get coffee and the lemon/blueberry macaroons (2 for $2-they are mindblowing). Coffee is like $2 a large/$15ish 1lb take home bag and SO good!!

Kristin H.

Yelp
We've been to Dark Horse 6+ times over the past 3 years and every time we've had good beer, service and food. Consistent! Love the atmosphere inside and outside. Biker bar feel, but if you're not a biker you wont feel out of place... okay maybe a little if you only like the finer things in life.

Erica D.

Yelp
We stopped here on our drive to Grand Rapids and were happy to see how easy of a stop it was off the highway and how large the outdoor space was. Unfortunately we just didn't have good service and were relatively ignored while it wasn't very crowded. The server directed us to the port a potty by the closed stage area instead of telling us where the indoor bathroom was. Just weird vibe and didn't feel like we were wanted at all. We shared a flight and didn't love any of the 5 beers, had an appetizer of the bacon and brussels and left.

Angela N.

Yelp
This was a second visit to Dark Horse. The first visit we had food and it was pretty descent but it certainly is a only a beer brewing company - no ciders available. That was kinda a bummer for folks who visit with a significant other who does not drink beer. But overall a cool place. We took our dog on second visit and as able to be with him in their outdoor beer garden so that's definitely a plus!

Susan O.

Yelp
Great food and tasty beer. Pizza was good and the chicken sandwich was amazing. Lots of outdoor seating and service was good.

Paul W.

Yelp
We usually visit this when passing through on 94 heading to or from visiting family in West Michigan. Hard not to stop in when it's one of the coolest places in Michigan to enjoy a pint. The space is small, and every inch that isn't covered by the ceramic mugs of DH's mug-club members is decked out with stickers, posters, graffiti and random photos. I don't think there's a philosophy, art form, or social segment that isn't repped in that visual chaos. None of that would matter if the beer disappointed though, and it does not. DH has solid selection of standby beers (most of which are available in stores), backed up by some creative seasonal and special offerings. Crooked Tree is a very respectable IPA, and the Sapient belgian-style Trip-Ale is malty-sweet high gravity goodness. Their Special Reserve black ale is a unique selection that is my go-to on most visits. Recently we caught their Saison, something they don't bottle, and loved it. Anisey and full bodied, but refreshing. I won't labor the beer list too much--go exploring and you'll find something good. Food is usually excellent. Like a lot of brewpubs, the menu is dominated by pizza and baked sandwiches, and DH put care and imagination into them. Their pesto-sausage-pumpkinseed pizza is one of the best pies I've had anywhere, ever. It's actually the only one I've tried, though they have a lot of interesting combos which I'm sure have the same crispy crust and ideally proportioned topping as our favorite. Recently, I tried Jake's Salad and my wife got the "Reubenesque" sandwich. Her Reubenesque had bourbon pepper turkey meat (as most of their sandwiches appear to) as well as crispy aisian slaw and pepper jack. She thought it was excellent, with the slaw giving it a pleasing kick. I liked the salad too (mixed greens, spinach, chicken, bacon, cheddar--the creamy salsa dressing was the perfect topping), though it was smaller than I expected for $9. If you order a salad as a meal, you might want to spring for a cup of soup also. I visited by myself last night and ordered the "Beef & Blue" sandwich, basically a gorgonzola-roast beef construction on a pretzel bun. This was a bit disappointing. The kitchen was very sparing with both beef and cheese, and they more or less faded into the bun. My main gripe with the place isn't with their food though, but with the difficulty of getting a seat. Used to by you could pop in here on a Friday or Saturday night and get a seat. Now, it can be hard on a weekday afternoon. Three of the last five times I stopped, I walked in, took one look around, and went back to the car--standing room only, if that. When you do get in on a weekend night, it gets pretty loud and hectic. That may your scene, though alas, I aged out of that some time back. Still doesn't stop me from getting off at exit 110 and trying my luck.

Betsy N.

Yelp
Loved this unique place!!! Way cool mugs decorate the entire ceiling. They were all various pottery designs. The tap handles were old and unique mixed styles, one was an old Pabst Blue Ribbon pull, with much better beer pouring out, LOL. The food looked awesome. The pizza man was continously making unusual pies. We had the Sounds Good, which was good. We drank the Belgian ale which had a great flavor. The t-shirts sold next door had awesome designs. The prices on food, beer and tshiirts were great values. Overall, a must go to place. The service was superior!!!!

Todd K.

Yelp
It has been awhile since we last dined at Dark Horse and we were not disappointed. Pizza was out of this world! Detroit-style with pepperoni and jalapenos (jalapenos were blazin!). Son has food allergies and they were very accommodating with a perfect brisket sandwich. Gluten-free buns would be great! Highly recommended: Devil Dog Oatmeal Stout to wash it down. :-) It was great to be enjoying great beer, great service, great DH atmosphere. See you again soon.

Kaydi M.

Yelp
What a cool place!!! Inside the brewery there are mugs all over the ceiling & walls for their mug club. What I was told by the waitress is that you can only get in on the mug club once a year and there's a line that you have to stand in. And then mayyyybe you can get a mug. Sounds cool/crazy! Love the beer there! Super yummy! The waitress was on point and so were the other workers. I ate the chili in a bread bowl & it was amazing! There's outdoor seating and also a place across the parking lot that sells beer, beer making supplies, and merch! And don't forget to stop in to the ladies room & try out the Bidet!! Ha!! I was too scared to but I've never seen one before in my life. Cool!!!

Jeremy P.

Yelp
One of our friends found this place on way down to Ft Wayne for hockey and loved it. Hidden gem for out of towners. Food was good. Beer was good. Service was friendly. Overall great spot to stop. They also have a bakery attached that looked awesome. Need to try that next time.

Randi B.

Yelp
When we visit Michigan, this brewery is a must! The cozy feel, great tasting beer and yummy menu selections make this cool joint something we look forward to. The outdoor patio is pet friendly and great for groups. The cool custom made beer steins hanging from the ceiling for club members give an Old World feel to the room.

Johna R.

Yelp
This place is full of character. The interior has a certain special charm that I've never seen before. The outdoor seating is extensive and fun. Plenty of beer selections for everyone from the beer snob to the ..... We ordered the pumpkin seed pesto pizza and it was great! I ate a few small pieces and didn't get that heavy bloated feeling that I normally have when I indulge in some Za.
