12 Portland-Area (and Road-Trip-Worthy) Drive-Ins for Beefy Burgers and Swirls of Ice Cream - Eater Portland

"Like all the other spots on this map, Roake’s sells classic burgers, but hot dogs are the primary focus. The footlong Coney hot dog comes slathered in Coney sauce (not chili), sprinkled with onions, and squirted with yellow mustard tastes like the Coney Island hot dogs served for decades. The Coney sauce recipe, made daily and served here for decades, remains top secret. The Roake’s team peels potatoes for fries with just strips of potato skin intact, deep frying them until crisp and golden. Roake’s has a walk-up window for ordering, a good size parking lot, and some picnic tables." - Rachel Pinsky

We love this place! It's delicious somewhere you can take your family and everyone will enjoy it. Very small Indoor dining area. But lots of tables outside to eat in the sunshine on a beautiful day. If it's raining, this is still one of our top places to go. We just eat it in the car. It's so delicious!!

Just a good old fashioned Burger/Hot dog place. Not a lot of inside seating but love the atmosphere of the little diner. The burger was good. I put it right up there with a 5 guys style. I think Roakes could be a top tier burger with two changes. Toast the bun. Give it some texture and help it from getting soggy. (My biggest complaints about 5 Guys.)Then a little burger seasoning (SPG) would just put this burger over the top. Loved the fries. Thin crispy fires.

Actually I want to give this place 3.5 stars. Finally got to try out Roake's and it was pretty decent. Fries are good, but definitely greasy and a bit soggy. Burger was the best out of the bunch: their Regular one. The short Coney dog didn't have a lot of flavor. Would definitely get a burger and fries there again. Might try a jalapeno cheese dog just to see if it's better. Prices and customer service are good 👍. Like that they give you a playing card to call out for your order. **Went back to try the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger. Was good with plenty of nice crisp bacon. Not a fan of the BBQ sauce they use, but overall the burger was still good. They were also sweethearts and gave me some fries that were leftover**

Good old fashioned Hamburger joint. In one word - Satisfying!! Excellent and fast customer service. Small sitting areas inside and some sitting area outside. There is plenty of parking around.

Every time I'm passing through the Portland area I make it a point to swing by Roake's at least once. It's hard to find a really good hot dog in this world, but here's the place if you like hot dogs. The dedicated skillful ladies behind the counter and on the grill only add to the experience.

I am so thankful for every burger stand I see. In a world that changes so rapidly, it’s nice to be reminded of a time before ordering kiosks and backed up drive thru lines. Roake’s is a step back in time, if not several. The dining area is decorated in classic diner decor. They get an A+ from me on aesthetics alone, however you won’t be disappointed in the food. The portions are large, the ingredients are fresh, and everything is made to order. Honestly, I can’t say enough good things about this place.
