The Best Hot Dogs in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"A roadside hot dog shack with a long-and-storied history extending back to the 1930s — under various names — Roake’s grills a timeless, high-value hot dog menu featuring a 12-inch coney dog (served with a special coney sauce) for just $5.75, a swamped “chiliboat,” and a one-bite short hot dog for under $3. Rub elbows with regulars in the cramped-but-charming vintage interior or snag a picnic-style seat outside under permanent covering. For sausage skeptics, the classic burgers and shakes are equally beloved." - Nathan Williams

Beloved Burger Cart Hit the Spot Will Open Its First Restaurant This Year, With More to Come | Eater Portland

"He had his first burger cook job at Roake’s when he was 17, and that experience convinced him he could do it better—motivating him to pursue his own burger concept years later." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

12 Portland-Area (and Road-Trip-Worthy) Drive-Ins for Beefy Burgers and Swirls of Ice Cream - Eater Portland

"Like all the other spots on this map, Roake’s sells classic burgers, but hot dogs are the primary focus. The footlong Coney hot dog comes slathered in Coney sauce (not chili), sprinkled with onions, and squirted with yellow mustard tastes like the Coney Island hot dogs served for decades. The Coney sauce recipe, made daily and served here for decades, remains top secret. The Roake’s team peels potatoes for fries with just strips of potato skin intact, deep frying them until crisp and golden. Roake’s has a walk-up window for ordering, a good size parking lot, and some picnic tables." - Rachel Pinsky

$7 for a deluxe burger with cheese. Definitely tasty but way too overpriced for such a simple burger. Located along a bike trail so a good pit stop when you’re hungry, the smell is enticing. I would skip the fries and drink and just get a burger if you want to keep the meal under $10.

I ate here once a few years ago and it was actually pretty decent. This time, it was the worst burger I have ever had. I think the burger was microwaved or somehow boiled. All I can think is that, since they closed in a couple of hours, they had already cleaned the grill, so they microwaved it? The texture was like eating dog food. And the fries were all green. And it was super expensive for the quality I received . I paid almost $20 for a cheeseburger, fries and a drink. My photos aren't great, but should give you an idea of what to expect.

Roake's is old school. A great dog, made right and great service. Been going here since 1995. I always get a footlong coney.

It doesn't matter which location. The long coney is just as good here as the one on lombard. I ordered 2 as usual and luckily I remembered to take a picture before devouring them both. Only needed 3 napkins.

Love the food here. I’ve been coming to this place for 25+ years. Never disappoints. Fries are great. Dogs are delicious. Food is hot and prices are affordable.

Hands down the best old fashioned burger and Fries anywhere. Always perfectly cooked and fresh veggies. They take me right back to my childhood. The employees are always so friendly and the value is unbeatable. We were there yesterday. 2 burgers, 1 with cheese. A huge French fry. Large soda. And a 1/4 lb puppy patty. 20 bucks! (And a tip of course) We couldn't even finish everything. We spent more than that at JITB last time we were there and were hungry a hour later. Absolutely the best!

This place is great, it’s all cash to start with which for me is a good sign. The staff or nice and the pricing is incredibly fair for what you get the burgers are well flavored and big. The fries are always fresh and it all comes to you quickly. Definitely worth trying

This has been a family favorite for DECADES. I no longer live in Oregon, however, it is literally my first stop every time I visit. When I tell you my fat butt will buy 6-8 coney dogs to go AFTER I have already eaten a full meal….I’m not lyin! That way I can save and eat them later 🤤
