Google
Unique fish market and grocery store. In addition to the fresh and frozen fish and shrimp, they have fresh-cut poultry. The live trout tank is always worth a look-see.

Google
Their fish sandwiches are delicious! I travel about an hour to go to Wholeys to get the sandwich and fresh seafood to cook later.

Had an amazing lunch that never disappoints- and I’ve been going here on and off for more than 50 years! Had the incredible Icelandic cod sandwich- amazing. We also had the lobster crab bisque and crab cakes. Then of course shopped for some seafood to take home. They also have parking which is free and across the street.

Hey, we are Vicky 🇵🇪 and Malte 🇩🇪 from the travel blog Traveling Is Our Passion. For a full one-day Pittsburgh guide, check out our blog! If you love fresh seafood and a real local market vibe, you HAVE to visit THE ROBERT WHOLEY'S MEAT & SEAFOOD in Pittsburgh’s Strip District! This place has been around for decades, and locals swear by it. The selection is huge—fresh fish, shrimp, crab, and even live lobsters! They also have meats, spices, and some great ready-to-eat options. The whole place feels like an experience, with friendly staff and an old-school market charm. Even if you’re not buying, it’s fun to walk around and soak in the atmosphere.

Been coming here for decades. This time we bought the seafood boil pot. Worker was wonderful as we walked around choosing the items for boil. $99 includes seafood, corn, sausage, potato, seasoning, butter and pot. Only need to add water and follow directions. Easily feeds 5 hungry adults. Definitely getting again.

Google
Normally I rave about this place, but I just spent $50 on 10lbs of ground beef only to get home and open it for it to smell rotten. The label that Wholey's put on said packed June 1st 2025 (yesterday) but when I looked closer there was a label printed on the packaging that said packed May 15th 2025! Definitely won't be buying ground beef from them any time soon and if you do, make sure you triple check when it was packed!

Google
Why is it so difficult to find smoked whitefish salad in Pittsburgh? Normally Wholey's has a whitefish spread that's at least a close approximation of NY style whitefish salad (same or similar ingredients, but slightly different texture) but they were sold out of it yesterday 😕 *ETA, I went back the following weekend and they'd run out of it again in the grab and go case, but I heard there was more in the back, so asked another employee to bring it to the fish counter, and they brought out a 5 lb container of ACME to scoop into smaller takeout portions.

Yelp
Just discovered this place on my last trip to Pittsburgh and it's enough to make me want to move there. I didn't try any of the prepared food because it was too early in the morning for a fish sandwich, but the fish counter was inspirational! So much beautiful fish for a good price! I got four of the sweetest little lobster tails and cooked them up with steak for dinner. I bought a cup of a dozen shucked oysters for a great price - will fry them up soon. Grocery section so well stocked, produce wonderfully fresh. What a treat!

Yelp
Wholey's is a great place when in Pittsburgh. They are a market with a wonderful seafood deli....or a great seafood deli with a market. They are an institution in PIttsburgh. Their deli is wonderful. They have everything seafood. They serve soups, sandwiches, sides, lobster mac & cheese, and chicken. Everything caught from the sea almost. There is one line to get in. The line moves quickly. The workers in there were nice. I picked up a cod sandwich and an oyster po boy. The cod sandwich was stuffed with cod fillets. You have a choice of soft, mancini, or wheat bun. We were too embarassed to ask what the first two breads were. So, we chose the wheat bun for the cod sandwich. It was big and tasty. The oyster po boy was filled with oysters on a French baguette. It was a good sandwich. Since we were visiting, there was no need to check out the market. If I lived in the area, I think I would be here every week.

Yelp
Wholey's fish market is a whole Pittsburgh experience that you HAVE to try! This is definitely an infamous spot where you will find a lot of locals. The restaurant is located inside a little fish market where you can purchase fresh seafood! The line was literally outside of the door to get in. Lent is an especially busy time of year for them so be prepared to wait. There is free parking across the street from the main doors. Once you order your food, you wait for them to prepare it for you, pay at the cash register and you can walk upstairs to their cozy little dining area. The fish was delicious! It is hand battered and deep fried. Next time i would like to try their oysters. Their crab cakes do contain bell peppers (if you have an allergy). Fish is fried in corn oil. Sandwiches are served with a side of chips but you can always upgrade to lobster mac and cheese (they have 2 types), french fries, or another side. Only one type of fish comes broiled. I got the lent special halushki (not pictured). It could have used a little more seasoning. Protip: you can always ask for them to make you fresh fish.

Yelp
Had a wonderful late lunch today. I got the fried cod sandwich. It's a half pound of fresh fish on your choice of bakery roll. It was fantastic. I also got a order of fries that they sprinkle with wing dust. Also very good. My friends got sushi from Andy's stand right inside the door and absolutely loved it. Don't miss the opportunity to check out all the fresh fish they have here. It's definitely a Pittsburgh experience.

Yelp
The Best Fish Market ! We dashed in for 3 Freshly Prepared Atlantic Cod Filets, always amazing Service was quick and friendly ! It's a Fish Market and be prepared to find almost every fish possible here !

Yelp
SERVICE: Staff was cool and kept things moving. Parking is always rough as it's located downtown in the Strip District. Great market for frozen fresh seafood on the right and hot, ready to serve on the left side of the building with restaurant seating down below. Local favorite and a must try! Note, lines can be long sometimes pushing outside. FOOD: Fish was thick and delicious. I could have the flavor go up a hair but still good. WELL: Will definitely return for another fish sandwich and you should too!

A Pittsburgh institution. Great fried seafood ready to eat. Fish sandwich on Mancini bread is world renowned.

Yelp
When we went out to Pittsburgh with our son Wifey and I had some time over the weekend to wander and explore. Even though we knew we weren't going to buy anything we wandered through Wholey's and it was Incredible. I've we lived here I guarantee I'd be a regular here.

Yelp
Love the place, great prices, fresh fish and love the lunch there, but that $50 worth of sushi went right into the trash today. I was surprised because he made good sushi 20 yrs ago.

Yelp
Wholey's is a really grocery store that is also a fantastic fish and meat market. Wholey's (Robert Wholey & Co. Inc.) market has been in business since 1912 and have to relocated a couple times until it moved to its current location in the Strip District in 1959. They've got an impressive amount and variety of seafood both fresh, alive, and frozen with Tuna, Cod, Haddock, Salmon, Swordfish, Halibut, Mahi Mahi, Flounder, Sole, Blue Fish, assorted clams, Chilean Sea Bass, Bronzini, Scup, Orange Roughy, Spanish Mackerel, Sardines, Striped Bass, Ocean Perch, Shad, Smelts, Whole Caribbean Red Snapper, Baccala Salt Cod, Grouper, Lobster, Crab, Squid, Octopus, and much more. In addition you'll find Walleye/Yellow Pike, Catfish, Rainbow Trout, Frog Legs, Escargot, Alligator, and lots more. They've also got an impressive number of fish tanks with lots of live fish and they'll deliver around PA & Ohio. But wait there's much more! It's also a pretty sweet meat market as well. All the USDA meats you would expect but also lots of specialty choices like, Andouille, Slovenian Klobase, Rabbit, pigs feet, Beef Bacon, which I need to try, and they also make there own sausage. So after you've procured your surf and turf there's no need to shop anywhere else because they've got a full blown supermarket of practically everything else you need to complete that meal and any other. It's a one stop shop that's a chef's dream! They have lots of perks for shopping here too, like a rewards card that can let you take 5-15% off your grocery bill, a referral reward program and some other incentives. Bottom line: This is a full service shopping destination that is very impressive with a great selection of virtually everything you need when it comes to seafood, meats and more. Highly recommend!! https://wholey.com/ https://www.facebook.com/wholeysfish/

Yelp
My family and I were visiting from Texas. Had to go to Wholey's while there. My dad had apparently told my daughter about their fish sandwich some years ago. My family all got the fish sandwich and I got the crab cake sandwich, but shared with hubby. They were fantastic sandwiches!!! The absolute BEST!!! The Wholey's experience and vibe was Pittsburgh at its finest! Loved the food and the people.

Yelp
Amazing food, fast service. What else is there to say. Had the Crab and lobster bisque, Butterfly shrimp, and the Crabby: Crab cake topped with soft-shell crab sand!

Yelp
What an amazing place for a quick bite to eat or if you're shopping for your family for a meal at your home. They carry a large variety of meats, vegetables and of course a large selection of fresh fish. The staff was extremely helpful in leading you to the right direction. I attended during their 111th anniversary which included a 111 pound fried fish sandwich. The turnout was amazing They evidently have a huge following of customers. Next time you're in Pittsburgh check this place out whether you want a bite to eat or something to take home

Yelp
Great experience with all of the seafood. They have hot foods and fish sandwiches available for purchase. You can eat in their dining room.
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
Food: Good selection of fried stuff and it's done in the regular fish market style. They have a good sized fish sandwich for $10 in addition to thinks like oyster po boys, though these run higher. Fries were good and had a tasty seasoning. I also enjoyed the clam chowder! Service: I always think the system is kind of whacky, but it works. People have always been friendly to me. Ambiance: It's unique, it's a market but they have an upstairs dining area. In the dining area it's like stepping into the late 1990s, but it works for them.

Yelp
Great place with an abundance of seafood. We live 5 hours away so we are here for the hot food Deli. Got the sampler, large lobster Mac and cheese, large lobster bisque. There is also a sushi joint inside named Andy's. Fish is fresh!
google avatar

Tonya J.

Yelp
Strip district staple for large and reasonably priced fresh seafood, meats, cooked foods and more! Selection was very large! You must stop here to check their products or to grab a fish sandwich for lunch!
google avatar

Dani J.

Yelp
I don't eat fish but this is just a fun experience. I've gone with people while they shopped and you can just explore and be part of the excitement. Fresh fish is really its own vibe so it's like taking a little vacation when you can't afford an actual one but have the wanderlust.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Wholeys is the best place to go for fresh seafood. It can definitely be intimidating the first time you go, but don't be discouraged! I always get my clams here and they have always been very high quality. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the layout is wonky/crowded and sometimes the shellfish looks like it's been laying out in melted ice, causing the clams to open.
google avatar

Scott K.

Yelp
Wide variety of fresh seafood. You are able to get hard to find specialty items. Little pricy but worth it. I've only encountered friendly and helpful staff. Love the fresh squeezed orange juice. I try to avoid the fudge stand but it pulls me in. Everything department is well laid out and organized. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered fried oysters, crabby patties and a fried cod sandwich. Barely edible because the sodium content was beyond high which made it hard to eat. It's like they fried everything and then dredged them in salt. This is the saltiest meal we've ever had and such a waste of money. I was tempted to bring the oysters to staff and tell them to sample one to tell me what they thought but I didn't want to be obnoxious. Such a shame because it would've tasted pretty good if it wasn't so salty. The only thing that wasn't salty were the fries, which were good.

Yelp
The fish market itself is fantastic stuff. You can get all sorts of fresh whole fish, frozen vacuum sealed fish, lobster tails of various sizes, and even fish scraps like skin, heads, and guts from a self-serve bucket! They also have a full blown market for produce and other land animal meats. The environment of the whole shop feels like stepping back into time, especially with the creepy dolls and singing animatronic cow. I can only imagine the staff hate hearing the cow sing you are my sunshine on a daily basis. The restaurant part is setup like a cafeteria, but its basically like a fast casual ordering setup. It was fascinating to see the workers dunk my crab into a giant container of batter and throw it with little precision into the fryer. The batter splatters all around the fryer for that matter! You can order any fish by itself or in a sandwich. Most people get a sandwich, but with the amount of food I had already had, getting the seafood by itself made sense to me. They have an upstairs area You have to get two soft shell crab, which I didn't necessarily like, but I guess that's their policy. The crab was definitely fresh, as I could taste all its delicious juices and innards. This may be a turn off for some people, but to me this is what I look for when eating crab. Their in house made potato chips are good, but I feel they relied heavily on the old bay salt seasoning for its flavor. These chips are pretty thick, so don't expect lays chips, but certainly not soft like wedges.

Stanley B.

Yelp
Very good cod fish sandwiches, crab cakes, coleslaw and bisque. The sandwich buns come from the next door bakery. Bare bones ordering at the counter near the entrance, then take your tray upstairs to a no frills eating area. Affordable prices, friendly service. I even got touring tips from a Wholey family member. The market is fun to walk through. Recommended.

Yelp
This was my first time at Wholey's Market I actually went for some roast meat, But ended up buying a bunch of items. Wholey's is in the strip disctrict, But don't let the parking there bother you they have there own free parking. The prices where good on everything I bought much better than competing other supermarkets. The store has a huge selection of assorted fresh fish and meats as well as a deli and fruits and vegetables. The store is a bit crowded, But laid out well. I was extremely happy with Wholey's. I will definitely go again.

Yelp
This place has been around it seems forever. We were here from outta town and came in to check it out. They are known for their fish and the prices are actually pretty reasonable. They also have meat and poultry and the prices are also reasonable. It's also has some grocery items, sauces & etc. You can order food to go. If you are in the area check it out.. if you want to do the Feast of the Seven Fishes for Christmas Eve they got what you need. Cheers!

Yelp
I really wish we had a strip district like this one in Columbus, it felt like a different time in a different world. Wholey's is a whole different animal. You got fish, you got meats, you got a plethora of ingredients that can help your holidays be awesome! No one will complain when you have the best food of the season. This place reminds me of the Anderson stores we had in Toledo, Ohio. But a little more bare bones. I like that they had recipe cards all over the store and you could pick up the ingredients and get to cooking. Really neat! The workers were really nice and seemed in good spirits. The bronze pig had surprised me as I left the door, all decked in holiday gear. Love it.

Yelp
Old school Pittsburgh tradition. The traditional, gritty, grimy store, but in a good way. If you need any seafood at all this is the place. Also has some produce and fresh meats. Inside is Andy's sushi which is great. Yesterday I decided to order some fresh cooked seafood from the takeout counter. First time ever trying it. I opted for the shrimp po'boy and was pleasantly surprised to see them take fresh shrimp, dredge them in flour in front of me and then toss them in the fryer. Doesn't get more fresh than that if you live in a non coastal town. They took a fresh Mancini roll sliced it up and doused it with some remoulade. When I went across the street to eat, I was surprised at how much shrimp was really on the sandwich. The roll was fresh, the shrimp was fresh, it was delicious.

Yelp
Wow, I was surprised this fish market is also a place to eat good food. I have been there several times. The first time I tried their lobster sandwiches and they are soooo good. You get two for $18 which is a really good price. This weekend, I was there for lunch and the sushi line was out the door so I tried the hot food line. I ordered a small gumbo soup for less than $5 and a fish sandwich for $6 something. The sandwich had 1/2 pound of cod so I only ate half! I had them add some Cajun sauce that comes with the shrimp po boys and it was so good! I had to take my gumbo home because i couldnt finish the sandwitch. It had okra, sausage, and crawfish. I added a whole piece of salmon at home and it was sooo good. They also have an upstairs eating are with condiments. It's not a nice place to eat so I recommend taking it to go. But the food was good!

Yelp
Fabulous market we walked past tanks of fresh fish where they were catching the fish and cleaning them. Piles of fresh shellfish. A sushi chef and fried fish counter too. They had cutlery and sauces That we picked up and brought to the picnic tables to enjoy our lunch. The lobster rolls were very filling the crab legs weren't bad either. I'm sure will love the double chocolate cake

Yelp
I find myself wanting that 1/2 star add-on rating again...This would be a 3 1/2 star review, if so. The good: the market has a good selection of fresh fish (I bought a great fillet of yellow fin tuna a few weeks ago) -- some filleted, others whole, some live fish & lobster. The not good: Entering the restaurant side is not a welcoming experience. We ordered a fish (cod) sandwich and a soft shell crab sandwich. The young woman behind the counter merely pointed at 3 different buns on a plate on the counter as if to tell us: Pick one. (Really- she said nothing). So we did - a "soft bun" (this over a Mancini's egg roll or whole wheat bun). We weren't given any options for sides, so we told her we each wanted Cole slaw. We then figured out - after not seeing the sides on our ticket - that a short ways down the counter is a bin of Cole slaw and potato salad. We grabbed 2 small coleslaws and -- since we weren't told where to go with our ticket --- we ventured toward the cashier. Nope - she turned us back. "You must have all of your order before coming here," she informed us. So - back we went to another woman who appeared to be frying our sandwiches. She hollered out our number, and off we went. Another good: the surprisingly large, mostly clean (some of the paper table coverings were dirty from previous diners - but we easily found a clean table) dining area upstairs. Another not good: the level of salt in the batter on the way-over-cooked soft shell crab was surprising. It was impossible to taste the crab. My husband's cod sandwich was pretty good. The Cole slaw - not bad. Back down in the market, we went to the chicken counter to order some thighs and found the man equally unfriendly. I went to get olives from the olive bar, and the employee there didn't bother to tell me he was still setting up the bar - even though I was clearly puzzled by the lack of serving utensils in the olive bins. Same unfriendly attitude continued to the check out counter. Yowza. I'll return to the market and hope for a better experience next time. I want to like this place!

Yelp
A little confusing as to how to find the way in to the actual store, but once you are inside e prepared to be surrounded by tons of different types of proteins. Some fresh, some frozen, a lot was reasonably priced. The workers were eager to help you with the best choices for your needs and price range. I spoke with several employees regarding their experiences with the foods they were selling. I got several great recommendations! And a whole fresh chicken for $4.49? A whole chicken! I bought stuff for my home and my mother's, and filled two large brown grocery bags for just under $75. I will be back next month to stock up. Oh my parents had fish sandwiches, lobster Mac and lobster bisque. Delicious! The fries have to be soaked in something illegal, so addictive!! The sushi counter is cash only, and there is an ATM by the door. Andy was so gracious! I had to stand in line three times before I was actually able to order (didn't see cash only sign, had to pay the other meals elsewhere). The sushi was so amazingly tasty, fresh and very generously portioned that I didn't want to share! We will be back, and we will bring reinforcements! Thank you for the lovely experience! Things like this make us really happy to be new residents of the Pittsburgh area!!

If you want fresh fish this is the place to go. Fish sandwich's are served on fresh Mancini's rolls.

Yelp
After a trip to the strip location of Mancini's bread, I made the trip next door to Wholey's. I have to admit that it was chaotic. There are 2 doors with a rope seperating the entrances. I did not realize until I got inside that I had entered the wrong door. I was on the retail side. When you're in a wheelchair, it isn't easy to go under or around to get in the right line. I've heard about the fish sandwiches for a while now, and have wanted to try one for myself. I ordered the cod sandwich, which is listed as 1/2 pound. I will admit that watching them prepare my sandwich gave me some confidence. The guy assembling the sandwiches is fast and weighs the fish pretty efficiently. I have no doubt that you get your money's worth, since it feels like if the weight is close, even if it goes a bit over, he puts it together for you immediately. In a place this busy, it seems like it would be inefficient to trim to exact measurements. It becomes better to keep the line moving. Being a first time visitor, it can be easy to get lost in the confusion. Some of the people there just expect you to know the workings of the store. The ambiance is geared more toward speed and efficiency than customer service. Just as an example, I didn't know that there was a dining area upstairs. Not that I could have made it up there in a chair, but nothing I saw indicated there was a dine in option. In fact, I never saw or was offered any condiments for my sandwich. In truth, I planned to take my purchase home, so for me, it wasn't as big a deal. Still, I saw nothing in the way of tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, cheese options or any vegetable choices, such as lettuce, tomato, onion or pickles. I got a plain sandwich on a Mancini's roll. Keep in mind that I had contact with 3 different people on my way through. The first is the one that takes your order and they expect you to know what and how to order. Then you move on to the fryer , where one person tosses battered fish in the hot oil while another assembles your sandwich. The third person is the cashier who demands 2 receipts in order to take your payment. The truth is that if any one of these people slowed down a hair, they'd probably double their sales. They could suggest additional items and tell customers about the upstairs dining area. They could educate customers on where to find condiments. There are a couple of coolers you pass along the way that hold drinks and some other items. You are pushed along by the tight lines, so you may not have long to check things out. I spent a little time wandering around after getting my sandwich and found the retail area well stocked, if a little difficult to manuever. The retail area is actually split into 2 different sides, with 1 side being about 90% seafood and the other set up like a typical grocery store. There is some crossover and I'd have to spend some more time there to discover all of the nooks. I was there on the weekend, so I suspect I could have a better experience during a weekday. If I find that it is easier to mnavigate or that I get any level of better service, I'll be sure to update this review. All in all, the sandwich was good and a good value. Everything else could have easily been made better with a little care. Some training would go a long way.

Yelp
This is the Mecca of all seafood places... There is no other place where so much amazing seafood is either being cooked and served or is for sale in the market. Wholey's has the best of both worlds, period, Aloha

Yelp
I missed home food when I was traveling so I was so happy to have stumbled to this place. They have all your seafood, meats, veggies and everything else you will need to make a meal. I was craving for some gumbo and jambalaya and they have all the ingredients I needed. They have both fresh and frozen seafood and meats. They also serve Togo fish sandwiches, crab cakes and other premade food for you to take home. I appreciate that they have parking for customers and a side table next to the parking lot to eat your ordered food.

Yelp
This is a big fish market with a place you can order food. You order and watch it being fixed, pay and then either take it to go or there is an eating area upstairs. The only drawback is going up the stairs with your tray. Refills on soda is included but the machine is downstairs. I think the food is very good. They even have sushi being made to order! I get a crab cake and soft shelled crab sandwich which they call a crabpatty and I love it.

Yelp
We all know Wholey's for their famous fresh seafood and meat. Did you know they also freshly ground peanuts to make the best fresh peanut butter in town? The peanut butter keeps us coming back but each time we try a new feature of Wholey's. This week we tried their hot food line and muffled our way through as obvious newbies. To start, there is a separate line for the not food at the entrance, stay left of the divider outside. When you enter, you are greeted with an overhead menu of fried seafood and sides. The only non seafood ilootions are chicken tenders, fried chicken, and sides. We ordered two cod sandwiches on a regular Mancini's bun (you can pick your bun type but Mancini's is always the move) and a large side of fresh chips. You are given a receipt and number and shuffle down the line to get your food. The fish was friend in front of us! You can also pick up a beverage, coleslaw, or egg salad while in line. They call your number, hand you a new receipt, and you place your original receipt in a bin on the counter. Proceed to the cashier at the end. Post cashier, there are utensils, napkins, and sauces (ketchup, cocktail, hot sauce, and tarter). Pro move - proceed through the fish depart to the steps on your left for a surprisingly upscale dining experience in a fish market. There are more utensils and sauces upstairs and it is less chaotic. The fish sandwiches are massive to the point that we each pulled a piece of fish off to save for another meal. The cod was fresh and thin with the perfect amount of breading. Nothing comes on the sandwich but sometimes you need to let the perfect fish and bun speak for themselves. The large bag of chips was well, quite large, so we brought them home. I look forward to visiting the hot food line again!

Yelp
I have shopped at Wholey's regularly for years. Try to plan a trip there for a weekday to avoid the crowds. Especially if you want to get sushi from Andy! When you first walk in, Andy is making his famous sushi at a small counter. The rolls are obviously so fresh since the fish comes from the market. He is so funny and entertaining too. The prices are high, but once you see how huge the rolls are it makes sense. If you go in the "hot foods" line to the left of the entrance, you will see their lobster mac and cheese and fish sandwiches. They have broiled cod that is flaky and delicious, and only takes about 5-10 minutes. I can't eat a really greasy fish sandwich, so I usually get the cod. You can get delicious crab cakes here too. If you walk in the entrance and go to the right, you will see all the fresh (and frozen) seafood. I usually get whatever fish is on special. They have great prices on salmon, swordfish, and orange roughy. Their fresh lump crab cakes are awesome, but pretty expensive. The workers are all so friendly, and let you pick exactly which piece of fish you want through the case. It's fun to look at the big tanks of lobsters in the back. They let you pick which one you want out of the tank too. My parents always get chicken at Wholey's because the price is so cheap. If you get meat in larger quantities, it is even cheaper. They have a full meat/butcher section that is as impressive as the seafood section. Don't pass up the lobster bisque soup to go, or a rotisserie chicken by the checkout. The owner is great and walks around the store thanking people for their business. Wholey's is a Strip District staple.

Yelp
Ask a yinzer where to get a fish sandwich in Pittsburgh and they will probably tell you "Wholey's dahn in the strip". I love their shrimp hoagie. That chipotle remoulade they use is so good. The cod sandwich is so big I usually end up taking some home with me (if I can wrap it in time before my husband tries to devour it). They always give a healthy serving of fries and their lobster Mac is so yummy. I like to grab a little container of cole slaw from their fridge and put it on my fish sandwich. The dining area upstairs is always clean and I love the variety of sauce options. P.S. - if you haven't tried the Vidalia onion and peach hot sauce... you're missing out. They have it upstairs sometimes at the condiment bar and also sell it downstairs. That sauce has become a staple in our house. I dip everything in it! Fish, fries, chicken, roasted veggies. It's addicting! I bring my parents here when they visit from out of town because they love to see the Wholey's atmosphere (and food).

Yelp
This market gets very busy on the weekends! Large selection of seafood and you can also buy prepared food to eat on the go! There aren't any tables to sit and eat it, so we walked around with it. The fish and chips were good, the fish was a little overly salty for my taste, but I would definitely go back and try something else!

Yelp
Like many Pittsburgh natives I've been coming here all of my life. Obviously the best and only place for the freshest seafood and freshest cuts of meats and deli items. Lots of stuff can be found here that you can't get anywhere else. However to use Wholey's as a grocery store would be foolish because many of their staple items are overpriced and you'd fare better at Aldi. Again, with that said, this place has always been on it for the seafood. It's exactly the type of place you'd expect to find in bigger cities and I'm happy we've got them!

Yelp
5/31/2022 I had clams here. They were ok. I later got shrimp here and it was also ok. I got fish here and it was way too salty. This is not the place I once remembered it to be.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with the fresh seafood and meats. The service is always on point and so is the cleanliness there is a person always walking around cleaning the glass the floors and so on.

Yelp
3/20/21- came in for Oysters and I was NOT disappointed. The Blue Points were huge, plump and fresh... 4/$5. Strolled past the deli and was served by Mick. She was quick & efficient and everything is sliced to order! No chipped when you shaved! The Eckrich cherrywood smoked ham off the bone was really good ($3.99/lb!) but the spicy pineapple ham ($5.99/lb) is FREAKING AWESOME! This deli has me SOLD...! Get here & Get Some...!

Yelp
So Jealous... wish a grocery store/fish market/meat market like this was in my area. Could not believe the selection of fresh fish and seafood, especially since Pittsburgh is no where near either coast! Honestly, I have never seen bigger lobsters or crab legs... not even in Seattle or Philly. So many other great things, like squeezing your your fresh oranges or fresh lobster bisque samples. Also free parking while you shop!
