"The only gelateria of its kind in the U.S., Rocambolesc is a must-stop spot to impress out-of-towners. A product of the famous Roca brothers — the culinary minds behind Spain’s three-Michelin-starred El Celler de Can Roca — this gelateria offers soft serve flavors like milk chocolate, hazelnut, and baked apple, all ready to be decked out with vibrant Willy Wonka-esque toppings. Think shimmering stars, pop rocks, fruity jams, candy floss, and “violet clouds,” or keep it simple with a nose-shaped popsicle." - Brianna Griff

"Chances are your kid doesn’t care or know the first thing about the Roca brothers, the Spanish restaurateurs behind the three Michelin-stared El Celler de Can Roca. But it’s likely they’ll care about many creations at this designer-like gelateria from the Rocas. Dive into soft serve flavors, like baked apple and hazelnut, and watch as their eyes bulge as their scoops are topped Willy Wonka-like with shimmery stars, pop rocks, and candy floss. For those who want a more subdued treat, choose one of its oddly shaped popsicles, such as the strawberry and rosewater in the form of a nose." - Brianna Griff

"Rocambolesc in Uptown hails from the team behind the famed molecular gastronomy haven El Celler De Can Roca in Spain, which kind of explains why there are chocolate popsicles shaped like fingers. The soft serve gelato and sorbet are exceptional, with a near velvety texture. Top cups with your choice of freeze-dried berries, lavender marshmallows, guava sauce, and a gummy candy nose or two." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

"Opening its first U.S. outpost in Uptown Park, this gelateria from the Roca brothers brings the playful, theatrical desserts of their Spanish locations to Houston. It will offer soft-serve flavors such as milk chocolate with hazelnut, baked apple, and a plain frozen yogurt, paired with Willy Wonka–style toppings like sparkly colored stars, pop rocks, blood orange and guava jams, candy floss, and shimmering “violet clouds.” The menu also features novelty popsicles shaped like a nose, a Star Wars Darth Vader, or a golden hand, a signature Panet ice cream sandwich sealed in brioche using a machine called the Oxymoron Maker, plus an assortment of chocolates, bonbons, and take-home tubs in at least 18 flavors (including espresso with Bailey’s, a coconut sorbet scented with violets, a real-rum mojito, and a carrot sorbet with mandarin and apricot). An official opening date has not been announced, and the shop will be entering a competitive Uptown Park market near other ice cream and chocolate retailers." - Brittany Britto Garley
