The 17 Best Restaurants In Manhattan Beach

"From the outside, Rock'N Fish looks more like a Ruby Tuesday’s than a place you actually want to be eating at, but looks can be deceiving. And this family-friendly restaurant steps from the beach serves good food and perhaps the most famous cocktail in the neighborhood: The Navy Grog. We don’t want to know the sugar intake in this rum-based cocktail, but we do want another one. Oh, and those crab cakes are quietly some of the best you’ll ever have. THE TOFFEE CAKE WAS AMAZINGGG Cute restaurant! Food came fast and it was pretty good! They said 30 min wait and it took like 10 mins instead so that was pretty nice. We got the catch of the day and the poke wonton nachos which was pretty good as well. The green beans that came as a side for the fish were a fan favorite as well. The cheese garlic bread was also good and in case you have a vegetarian in your party get that

Google
My work team and I had an amazing dinner earlier this month. We had popcorn shrimp for a starter. The shrimp was crispy and the sauce was delicious. I had the rock fish entree and the fish was cooked just right. The accompanying sauce had a great flavor. This location is very close to the beach in a cute area of Manhattan Beach. Our server was amazing. Ask for Karina. She gave us great recommendations as it was our first time there. I’ll definitely return.

Google
Great address for small and large groups after a day at the beach. Their semi-outdoor patio gives you a first row seat to the sunset while you enjoy the happy hour. Menu wise you can get a few classics you expect at the seaside such as their lobster roll or fish of the day. As a vegetarian I really enjoyed their grilled artichoke and loaded baked potato (ask for no meat) - overall the kids also loved it and enjoyed their food followed by a sundae ice cream. Service was excellent although we were a large group (again, with kids…) The proximity with the beach, service and menu makes it a good choice for lunch or diner.

Google
Great location right across from the beach and very attentive staff but I am going to have to give a mixed review on the food. The clam chowder - delicious. The mac n cheese - great. The tortilla soup - not sure (wasn't my meal). The meat skewer - a little too chewy. The coconut prawns - not good at all. I love coconut prawns and these tasted so bad I only ate one of the four. The texture wasn't great, nor was the flavor. Also, the sauce that came with it in the dish was so runny you couldn't really get a lot of it on the shrimp.

Google
The fish and chips were the best my husband has ever had. And Jackie is one the best servers I’ve ever had! Warm, inviting atmosphere, amazing food, great cocktails fantastic service… You can’t go wrong! OH YEAH and it is RIGHT on the OCEAN!!

Google
If you're in the area of Manhattan Beach, this is a great place to stop for lunch. I recommend the patio seating. There's a nice view with fresh air, perfect for a midday lunch. My server Alexis provided wonderful suggestions and attentive service. The New England Clam Chowder was delectable. Somehow, the Crispy Fish Sandwich was buttery with a splendid crunch. The Asian slaw added just enough topping. Just for something different, I tried the garlic cheese toast. There are several tantalizing drink options on the menu. The Navy Grog is one of their specialty drinks.

Google
Came here for lunch and we’re so glad we did! We ordered the San Francisco sourdough and two fish dishes—everything was absolutely delicious. The drink selection was great as well. Hope to come back someday!

Google
On Saturday afternoon, we decided to take a drive to Manhattan Beach to get some fresh air and lunch. We decided for Rock n Fish for it's proximity to the beach and great views. Plus most seatings are outdoor at the patio. Great view to say the least. The food are very well prepared. I ordered the rockfish and my wife had the Rainbow Trout. Both were very delicious! Very nice portions where you can actually finish your meals. Claim chowder soap was great also. Parking was tight since it's right by the pier. Although I have to say the city have this area quite under controlled and organized. Cars don't just drive all over like other beaches. They have workers managing the parking in and out. Great city service for a change.

Yelp
This is just a few steps from the Manhattan Beach pier and it's well worth a visit! Honestly, maybe a little touristy, but the food was genuinely good and so was the drink. I can't remember what it was called, it was their specialty rum drink, but it was nice and sweet and had crushed ice. Our waitress was great, she did upsell me on the drink (on my visit, it came with the glass for their anniversary!) but it was a very low pressure sale. She made good menu suggestions after asking our general food preferences. We were able to be seated at 11am on a Saturday with absolutely no wait, but it was busier when we left.

Yelp
Very solid restaurant super close to the beach. We booked a reservation for Father's Day. Walked right up here from the main part of the pier after a great day at the beach. Mac n cheese was definitely the star of the show imo. Top notch flavor and perfect texture. For entree had the surf'n turf. Although the lobster was delicious, it wasn't the best steak I've had. I wish I would have tried more of the seafood options that were being recommended. Mashed potatoes were nice and creamy and the asparagus had a good texture. Service was on top of it. They have an outdoor area, lower level and upper level. Parking is scarce in this area so plan accordingly.

Yelp
This location is real close to the shore and on the hill. There's metered parking that extends to two hours that accepts quarters or card. The atmosphere here is really neat amd obviously marine themed. I like the fish artwork! The service was great. Our server was really nice and friendly. The food arrived at a good time. I got the blackened Fish Tacos (recommended by the server) and it was delicious. The tortillas seemed homemade and has a nice texture to them. They are generous with the avocado. I liked the seasoning on the fish. You get two cups of sauce but I was mostly tempted to eat the tacos as is. The dishes are well portioned. I was full by the end. I'd definitely return to try more of the menu.

Yelp
Great tasting, quality food! I've been here a few times growing up, and the food is just as delicious as I remember. We ordered their Beer Battered Fish and Chips, New England Clam Chowder, Blackened Oregon Rockfish, ROCK'N Scampi. Their Fish and Chips are pretty good, not dry, and are perfectly crisped. Their fries are just normal fries but they're good. It also comes with a coleslaw salad which was fresh, lightly sweet, and a bit creamy which I liked. The clam chowder was also pretty good. It sort of reminded me of the clam chowder from Erewhon. It consisted of a good number of clams and was nice and creamy. The ROCK'N Scampi is a pasta dish. This dish was good and contained shrimps that tasted fresh. Although, I preferred their non-pasta dishes more. Overall, had a great dining experience and the food here was excellent. The servers were very kind and helpful. The restaurant is also super close to the beach, so you can get a pretty nice view of the beach if you dine outdoors. There's no designated parking lot, but I was able to find free parking minutes away walking distance.
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy spot near the ocean however as you know in a high tourist area prices are also marked up. Parking is terrible as to be expected. Coconut shrimp and the fish tacos were super fresh and tasty. Good quality products with lots of flavor. Even with the coconut shrimp bring fried, it wasn't heavy or oily.

Yelp
Located up the street from the pier, this was a nice place for date night, family night or a quick drink. Extensive bar and attentive servers. The jambalaya was great and the cob salad with seared ahi was too. Large portions and an inviting atmosphere this is a win if you're in the area. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars was the lack of water service until the end of our dinner.

Yelp
Love this place! Great location...close to the beach. Lovely outdoorish seating. Came to celebrate our anniversary! Perfect spot for delish drinks, views, yummy food and dessert! And the best service. Great happy hour! Got the espresso martini, beer, and shared the seafood tower. All delish! After a walk around the town & down to the beach, we had dinner later on ... Artichoke, cheese bread, Rib Eye & Cioppino = all delish! We had 2 different servers and they both were super attentive and friendly. Recommend!

Yelp
First off, here's what's great about this spot: Great location and great service. It's near the water, near other bars and our group of 4 was able to be seated immediately at 12:30pm on a Saturday. What's sadly not so great is the food. We really enjoyed the cocktails and the raw oysters, but the rest was pretty bland. We ordered the fish tacos and the seafood pasta and both lacked flavor and absolutely weren't worth what we paid. Maybe we ordered the wrong items? Unsure.
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
I used to love this place but they have seriously gone down hill. We went here a few days after Vday to celebrate & got the lobster tails as always. I should have taken a picture. They were SO tiny! & TOUGH & CHEWY. gross! What a waste of $300 for 2 people. The only thing I can say anything good about is their spicy mac n cheese... that's about it. BOO!!!! We have been here countless times, but that was our last. never again.

Yelp
The amazing location of this place and its delicious food make it a top tier restaurant. This place is a very short walk from the pier/beach which is ideal. I think they do the classic beach-related food items really well. The fish in the fish and chips had great crispiness on the outside and tender fish in the inside. The clam chowder was tasty and did not have an overpowering creaminess to it. The fish in the blackened oregon rockfish dish had perfect tenderness and paired well with the mashed potatoes. The rock'n scampi was not bad but not as strong as the other dishes described in this review. Overall, great go-to place for seafood when in Manhattan Beach.

Yelp
First time here will be back. Food: The food was great, I really enjoyed the flavors and presentation of the plates. - Rock'n Scampi - tastes great, it comes with spicy garlic mushrooms on top but honestly it really makes the dish pop. It also comes with shrimp and lemon - Macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi - this was my favorite it was cook perfectly it was fresh and the Macadamia crust was incredibly good. It comes with this buttery sauce that changes the entire dish. Amazing!! - Hawaii Poké - this is a great starter, the Poké is sitting on top of a flavorful soy based juice that completely elevates the flavors. - Rock'n Crab Cakes - each order comes with 2 cakes but the size is decent and the flavor and presentation is great. Not a bad choice for a starter. Service: OMG... our waitress (Jill) was absolutely a joy to be around she was so nice and caring. She checked on us and made sure we had everything and even corrected a few things we didn't even notice. She is incredibly great at what she does and she made our first visit amazing. Thank you Jill Atmosphere: It's a beach vibe, open air seating, up stairs seating and bar seating. It's a great place to be. Friendly with dark wood and brick decor. The bar is huge, so big it has a library ladder that scales 8 or 9 rows of spirits. It's beautiful. Note: It's allso good for larger groups. And walk-ins Price: Great prices nothing out of control and considering the quality of food it's not bad. Location: It's located in Manhattan Beach on Manhattan Beach Blvd. Right next to the beach. Note: Parking is extremely tight and it's all paid meters. Recommend showing up a few minutes early to look for parking.

Yelp
Hands down, one of the best seafood restaurants in Manhattan Beach! This place is excellent. Great location right off the beach, great food, great drinks, and great service. We were able to get a reservation, which I definitely recommend doing. The inside is nice. We got to sit in the bar room and really loved the vibe. Our server was so nice and very helpful with all our questions! Had great recommendations on the menu as well. The food was fantastic! Everything was fresh and made perfectly. Our group had a variety of entrees but the two that stuck out were the Barramundi and Classic Lobster Roll. Absolutely recommend both! They have a great selection of sides that you can swap out as well. The drinks were delicious as well. The Navy Grog is their specialty cocktail, and it is so good! Comes in a fun glass as well. Overall, Rock'N Fish needs to be on your list of restaurants to try in Manhattan Beach, especially if you're looking for seafood. Cannot go wrong here!

Yelp
I saw reviews rave about the spicy mac and cheese and like a little kid, I love the stuff. The mac and cheese here with the spice was fine, but it seemed like velveeta cheese is used or that is the consistency. No solid cheese added with the mac in addition, and I feel like this would up their game as a casual not so casual food critic. But, if so many others are crazy about it, then it's better to keep it as is. I also had the rockfish. Grilled and seasoned so well, fresh green beans, quality mash potatoes that seemed like they were made from scratch. It was real busy here on Mother's Day naturally, my time was kind of short, so I just decided to take out. Clean restaurant.

Yelp
I brought my friend visiting from Hong Kong here since I wanted to take her around the beach area and she's pescetarian. After searching for spots, this place looked the most promising, and it did not disappoint! The fish was cooked perfectly and the sides were packed with great flavors. We both loved it. Plus, the staff was super accommodating when we asked to sit under the warmers (we were definitely cold girlies that day!). I'd definitely come back again, maybe for a date night or brunch with friends next time.
google avatar

Danni Rae H.

Yelp
The food is always so fresh since they're celebrating their 25th anniversary I was able to keep the glass. Thank you!

Yelp
Love this place we go here maybe every other weekend their lobster roll is delicious. Clam chowder is really good. Steaks are good salads pretty much everything that we have had at this place is really good. Their wine selection and you're a couple minutes away from the beach.

Camila M.

Yelp
The food was so good and the service was attentive and sweet! Refills without having to ask and a great happy hour menu, and amazing view of the beach.
google avatar

Yelp
in regards to the service, ambiance, and overall vibes, everything at Rock N Fish was immaculate. a super fun date location, or if just hanging with friends. however the food was just okay. 7/10. peruvian scallops were good, not as tasty as Saffy's, but i'd def order again. We also ordered a surf n turf with a medium rare steak, but it was cooked well-done :~( as well as the mac n cheese (bland and also over baked) since I'm too shy to complain, and we didn't wanna wait for the food to cook again, so we just ate it. lobster was good, would definitely order that again too. and the oysters were scrumptious! I suppose if we came back here, we would just stick to the seafood.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is Delicious the calamari the fish and chips the salads the drinks are bomb service is awesome very friendly staff. I will. Be back again.the view of the beach is great

Yelp
Came here for the first time to try out their DineLA Restaurant Week special lunch menu. Loved that each reservation at any participating restaurant supports LA wildfire relief. Unfortunately, the food that I tried here was nothing remarkable . The fish tacos lacked a lot of flavor and seasoning. The taco was also very wet and soggy- the tortilla didn't hold up well. However, I will note that the location is beautiful- only steps away from the ocean.
google avatar

Dona F.

Yelp
Here from NY. Fell into this place. Outside front patio which was nice but fighting off too many flies. A block away from the pier. Nice menu. Ordered sour dough which was amazing, warm and crunchy Broccoli side. Fish tacos and a diner side salad (comes with it). 2 sauces one of which was a little spicy. If felt the tacos just needed more flavor. A lime slaw topping would have been nice. My friend had a Caesar salad with chicken. Good size portions. Humongous bar inside. Very clean restrooms. Moderate prices. Good service
google avatar

Randi L.

Yelp
Stopped here to eat during a beach walk and I'm so happy I did! I love this cute place. It is nothing like what you would think from the outside. There's plenty of seating and a really cute bar. I love how they have it decorated for the holidays. The service is great, and the food is okay too.
google avatar

Katherine R.

Yelp
This place needs a new chef. Everything we tried (multiple dishes) was average. I guess they're skating by on their location.
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
Paid meter parking was easy and right next the restaurant. I came here with an old friend. The food was okay. Nothing truly special but the food was edible. The sword fish was okay and a little bland. The jambalaya was not with the traditional red sauce, which was ok but also a little bland and we didn't finish it. Service was good. Overall, just an okay experience. We sat facing the outside so we saw the sunset which was pretty.
google avatar

Ramzi L.

Yelp
Clam chowder, blackened halibut with two sides. The chowder has lots of clams and nice flavour but lukewarm at best! Disappointing at this price point Halibut had nice flavour not overpowering on the blackened. Maybe tad overdone Service was excellent and suggested good sides and attentive Ambiance casual but very attractive. Huge bar Would I come back? Yes 4 star due to the soup and slightly over done halibut.
google avatar

Yelp
Wrapped up our weekend trip with happy hour on the Manhattan Beach Pier. Rock'N Fish had the best happy hour so we made a reservation. When we arrived, a few tables in the patio were occupied but it was otherwise very quiet on a Monday at 4. Our server Jill was right over to take our drink orders. Although we were not in a rush to order food, we were conscious of the end time for HH being 5pm. I started with a Navy Grog rum cocktail, served in a tiki glass. It included crushed ice, which made the straw less than effective. I really enjoyed this tropical cocktail and the first one went down so fast, I had to have a second! Husband ordered a Big Wave beer, not noticing there were only a couple of drafts on special for HH. When I asked if he was sure, our server gave him two chances to switch but he stuck with his original order till the second beer. The IPA and mexican lager on HH, with wine and the rum punch, are about it. It seemed to make our server uncomfortable that we weren't in a hurry. So, eventually we ordered second drinks and snacks. I can't resist a grilled artichoke, and the oak grilled one here is yummy. And the garlic aioli accompaniment was amazing. I asked for a spicy remoulade that I saw on a nearby table's platter, and our server brought me that to try as well. I could eat this dish every week! I also ordered two jumbo prawn cocktail style. My husband ordered the chowder cup (a bowl but not deep) and one more giant shrimp. The shrimp were cold and crisp, steamed then chilled to perfection. The cocktail sauce was appropriately zippy. The chowder was creamy and delicious. Truly no complaints!
google avatar

Nami N.

Yelp
I came Rock'N Fish for dinner at the meeting. Good service here and need reservation. It was a bit disappointing that our seats were not very comfortable near the entrance and chili evening. I chose asparagus and potatoes as garnish for bracken Halibut. Halibut's taste is a little unsatisfactory. I liked the place where the restaurant is.
google avatar

Angela T.

Yelp
My best friend and I enjoyed this place for a night away from the kids! For drinks, we had a painkiller and an espresso martini. We were happy both drinks were not too light on the alcohol! The painkiller was good, but the espresso martini was really good! We had a light meal with the brussels sprouts and tuna nachos. The nachos were excellent! The servers were very friendly, but maybe it was just too busy as drinks were not refilled promptly and we had to ask for the check after waiting for quite some time for our server to return. We loved the decor and atmosphere. I especially liked the etched windows and mermaid pictures.
google avatar

Terry J.

Yelp
Exceptional! Soooo good decided to come back again tonight. Loved the chilled crab legs and chopped salad!
google avatar

Cindy Z.

Yelp
Food was fresh and delicious, and the staff was very friendly and sweet. I'd definitely return. We ordered calamari, wedge salad, lobster roll, and an ahi tuna salad. I also had a hibiscus margarita that had a good kick to it.
google avatar

Takao M.

Yelp
Scallops were very fresh, shrimp and ribs were good, beer is ok. Service was really good, our server Paige was very great! Ambience is more family friendly unlike most restaurant bars around with options for large groups.
google avatar

Patti B.

Yelp
There were 5 of us dining here last night. Spencer our waiter was attentive and helpful. Everyone enjoyed their meal except me. As a vegetarian, the meal choices are limited here. That's fine, if the one thing you feel safe ordering is delicious. It wasn't! The wedge salad, hold the bacon is a favorite when choices are limited. Not at Rock'N Fish. The bleu cheese dressing was so watered down it had little to no flavor. What a disappointment:(
google avatar

Mechell G.

Yelp
I enjoyed their steak and their fish and chips. It is also nice to walk off the meal afterwards at the beach nearby
google avatar

Christie K.

Yelp
Food is amazingly delicious, especially their wood cooked salmon and I don't even like fish! Service is great and it's one of our neighborhood favorites. A bit pricey for what you get though so don't expect Cheesecake Factory portions.
google avatar

Asa S.

Yelp
I don't like leaving bad reviews but unfortunately the oysters will make you sick and even though the location is great, got food poisoning from the oysters, after ER visit due to getting sick with experiencing terrible symptoms, the doctor recommended not having oysters in specific seasons from certain places that is contaminated with vibriosis. This location is still serving guest with oysters.Very disappointed with the experience and the damage it has caused with on going issues due to present bacteria. Will not recommend unfortunately. This location needs to be more responsible to ensure that all these issues are addressed before someone else becomes very ill.
google avatar

Brittney p.

Yelp
Love this cool bar in Manhattan Beach Mike helped me at the bar and made me yummy drinks to continue the day the location is perfect right near the beach
google avatar

Calley G.

Yelp
The service from Ari was amazing. Great suggestions and friendly, welcoming service. A quick walk from the pier, great views of the beach if you sit out front. The inside decor is very cute and amazing vibe. The food was so delicious and fresh. The mahi sliders are a must try. The cocktails are expertly crafted and have delicious flavors. Great experience!
google avatar

Sonj H.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, nice staff. Delicious cocktails. Lobster roll was very disappointing, always cold, no flavor other than some celery. Fish dishes very nicely seasoned but all items were a little overcooked. Vegetables delicious. Salads fine. I would happily eat here again but nothing was that great and the better looking items were $50-70 plus but with the taste of the $25-40 items, I am not sure I would trust a splurge here. Definitely recommend it for vibe, drinks and shared appetizers.
google avatar

Kassandra S.

Yelp
Great place to have a Instagram worthy meal because it's located right by Manhattan Beach! The ambiance was lively & busy. The servers were kind & fast. Coconut Mahi Sliders 7.5/10: was a bit pricey for 3 sliders & was advertised as a shareable meal for $22. Perhaps if there was one more slider it would have been a more of an equal share among two people. They were tasty, but could have used a bit more crunch & coconut for the breaded mahi King Salmon 8/10: delicious! The salmon was cooked beautifully, the honey broccoli was great. The honey compliments the bitterness of the broccoli! The mashed potatoes were tasty as well. Great dish Creme Brle 8.5/10: the sugar on top was perfect, however, the custard inside was a bit cold. Other than that the flavors were there & very tasty Overall a great place for a large gathering or for a more intimate date! Definitely would visit again to try other dishes.

Lonnie S.

Yelp
Good food, good portion size, priced perfectly. Sat in the front, not a bad seat in the house, but I thought the bar area was a cool spot. Started with the sour dough bread. Seafood jambalaya was excellent, as was the salmon sandwich, we also tried the tacos, and the lobster roll (ct style) was a good portion. Definitely try the Kona Pie. My only feedback is I was looking for a bigger variety on both their food and drink menu, despite both menus having a lot of options.

Proud of my country U.

Yelp
Amazing all around. Food was amazingly good, with flavorful shrimp and light fluffy rockfish with green beans and mashed potatoes. Clam chowder and artichoke were lovely appetizers. Thanks to Kristin W, our delightful server who took perfect care of us. We will be back for sure!

Shami M.

Yelp
This is a very down home all American food place. Service was good and people were nice but would I go back maybe.

Yelp
It's been a number of years since I had an opportunity to eat at Rock'N Fish, once one of my favorite Bay Cities restaurants. Had a chance to revisit last evening for dinner with some business colleagues. Overall, dinner was good. Ordered the Coconut Shrimp and Hawaiian Poke for appetizers followed by my favorite, Kapalua Rib Eye for my entree. My colleagues had the Mahi and blackened Halibut. My guests enjoyed their dishes and were highly complimentary of the food overall. Appetizers were very good, especially the Poke. As for me, I was somewhat disappointed with the Ribeye. The steak was overcooked, I asked for medium rare and it was more medium to medium well. Also, the steak was not as big as I expected, used to be a 24 oz if I remember correctly but was no where near that this time around. Brussels we're exceptional. Our server was very good and no complaints. Giving Rock'N Fish 4 stars because colleagues were very satisfied and my history w/ this restaurant, however, my steak was underwhelming. Have to come back so they can redeem themselves and maybe treat myself to their sticky toffee cake!

Melissa G.

Yelp
The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks were delicious. Our waiter was very helpful and gave great suggestions. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely be returning!

Larry P.

Yelp
Late lunch after the girls cheer competition at Rock'N Fish, Manhattan Beach. Thanks to maitre d', Onica, who materialized a table for six out of thin air on a super busy Saturday afternoon, I got to sample their delicious menu and introduce my adventurous daughter to poke'. Our wonderful server, Jackie, manage the table beautifully! Mama and Abuelos had the lobster roll, the girls split a side of salmon and a side of mac and cheese, I had their blackened rockfish, all which came with excellent sides. Venue, service, portions, flavor, all home runs!

Nancy B.

Yelp
I had been here many years ago, and I was pleased to see that it has been in Manhattan Beach for decades and withstood Covid. The food is great. The service was wonderful and I just like the whole vibe.

Glenn R.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was awesome. Staff was great and always smiling. They swrved everything on time

Yelp
The service was impeccable. I crave the Cobb salad all the time. It is delicious. My friend really enjoyed the fish and chips. One of my go to spots in Manhattan Beach keep up the good work!

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!!! From the interior I felt like I was aboard a ship it was great. Service was impeccable! Kinda pricey but honestly couldn't fault anything. Crab legs were AMAZING. Great place to come if you're in Manhattan beach :)
