Rockwell's Neighborhood Grill

Friendly place, rustic decor, the name is accurate as it is in a neighborhood. Service was friendly, good beer selection, food was quick and delicious!

Located in the Ravenswood manor area a block from the brown line, it’s a fun little locals bar and restaurant. A fine neighborhood establishment, great updated outdoor patio for summer dining with beautiful hanging baskets of flowers. I love the menu: many options of burgers, appetizers and salads. Definitely try the Patty melt, the warm cornbread to share and the fish tacos were also good. My only complaint was noise level, between families with poorly behaved kids acting out and the summer cicadas it was pretty loud and noisy- hard to even have a conversation with the person at my table! That being said, I would definitely be back, to try more food off the menu. Also, considering how busy it was service was friendly and efficient- they pool together and tag team tables- which leant to a nice environment! Plus it’s dog friendly!! 🐶

I went here with my boyfriend on Saturday when they opened. The atmosphere was calm and chill. The servers were so cordial and professional. The mozzarella sticks are to DIE for! They are the best we’ve ever had. Their burgers are amazing!! They were so good we plan to come back this Friday! Totally recommend!

Great food and service, lots of vegetarian and gluten free options too. Many of the drinks on the cider menu weren't available which was a bummer but didn't reduce the experience for us. The patio is very nice and spacious - they were easily able to accommodate our party of 11 on a weeknight with virtually no wait.

Great food, great beer list. Always get the Louisiana egg rolls. Great casual neighborhood atmosphere. I go whenever I am in the area. Located just steps away from the L.

Gluten free fried chicken! If you want a fried chicken sandwich, I highly recommend putting coleslaw or extra mayo or something on the sandwich. Needs a bit extra liquid imo, but maybe that's because I don't usually have breaded anything with bread? Knowledgeable about gluten free, plenty of options. Want to try the mozzarella sticks, but the prices cause a rivalry between my stomach and brain. UPDATE: Tried the mozzarella sticks. They were huge and delicious. (There were 5 but we immediately started eating them before I took a picture). Gluten free BLT also pictured.

Gluten free avocado melt chicken sammich thing is so good. I like the buffalo one too!! I usually get sick even sometimes when in dedicated gluten free restaurants bc I have other food allergies etc but don't rly have issues after eating at this place. However, I do make sure I explain my issues to the server & they take things seriously (they are super nice about it too). I will eat one half of it per serving, though. Good portion sizes 👍 plus is in a very cute (historic) Chicago neighborhood. Nice outdoor seating in the warmer months.

My last four take out orders were inedible. It’s sad because I’ve relied on their food for years. The Taco salad and chopped chicken salad were my go to items and honestly the last one was disgusting. Brown lettuce, four black beans a handful of tortilla and guacamole that was going brown. I threw it away. It really can’t be hard to make. And it is not inexpensive, please try harder to make your takeout palatable.

GREAT neighborhood spot! Good food, service ambiance. TVs if you'd like to watch, plenty of tables if you don't. GREAT outdoor dining space.

The Cajun fries are incredible. Probably the best seasoned fries I've had in a while in Chicago. Serving sizes are very generous so you should come prepared! I do wish the burgers were slightly less dry.

Nice outside pet friendly patio area. Local brews available, the spinach salad was delicious.

We've been going to Rockwell's since it opened over 20 years ago. The food has been consistently great and brought out fast, the service has always been friendly and relatively fast even when they're slammed and clearly deep in the weeds. My absolute favorite is the Santa Fe Burger. The soups and salads are also great, as is the apple fritter desert.

I used to frequent Rockwells quite a bit when I lived in the neighborhood and was always happy with their quality and service. I ordered for delivery recently and was really disappointed. I don't live that far - just under 2 miles. The fries were all cold by the time they got here - they were also dried out as if they'd been sitting under a lamp for a bit. The burgers were also cold and the impossible patty was extremely dry. The chicken bites were good but for $15, I expected a little more than the amount given. Overall, disappointing now and I'll have to find another neighborhood spot to satisfy the burger craving.

When I first moved to the neighborhood, this was one of the first restaurants I visited. I love that it's tucked into a residential neighborhood. It's open late, so you can always depend on it being open, especially if you have a late night food emergency. As for the food itself, I would rate it average quality. I can never seem to find any meals I love here, but it's all pretty solid. However, the selection is good and always rotating. I come here just for that a lot of times. Well, that and Timmy, who is just the best. On Tuesdays, they do trivia, which can get pretty crowded. However, I appreciate them having events to go to during the week. If you've never been here, give it a shot. It's a great place to bring the kids or visit by yourself and sit at the bar to watch sports.

Cool mostly cozy neighborhood bar and grill. It's conveniently located close to the Brown Line. Rockwell's Neighborhood Grill has been around awhile, since when the area was still a lot worse. Has pretty good amount of choices as far as drinks and food. The prices are okay. Best to get here by public transportation because it takes you right here. It's close to the Rockwell station on the Brown Line. This is one of the ones that's street level, so it's unique. Came in the last time and we got a few drinks, including a House Margarita. It's $7 so it's not that expensive compared to other places. Has a nice amount of choices for vegetarians including burgers. You can substitute an Impossible Burger and a dairy free bun for a few bucks more. Got the Rockwell Burger. It's $13 and this one is the cheapest. This has the basic toppings including dill pickle, lettuce, mustard, red onions, and tomatoes. Hop off and come in. It's easy to get to by public transportation. There's lots of local beers and good cocktails, and the burgers are the main food option with choices for both meat eaters and vegetarians.

I wish I had had a better experience here and maybe it was a fluke experience. Our group of 3 waited roughly 45 minutes for an outdoor seat and we saw people getting seated before us that had been in line after us (same group size). Unfortunately, when I checked back in, it turned out the host had forgotten to place us on the wait list for outdoor seating, he very generously apologized and offered us drinks from the bar on the house. We were seated and proceeded to wait for 15 minutes before a server arrived at our table for water and taking order. The food arrived roughly 45 minutes after ordering it was absolutely delicious! I had the French toast and my friends had tacos which were all killer. When we were ready for the check, there was another 20+ minute wait. Short staffing (and rush on a Friday night) stinks for all parties. Given the family friendly ambiance, the great menu (vegan and gluten free options!), the neighborhood feel, and the cute decor (indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor pet friendly), I plan to give this place another try.

We love Rockwell's. The burgers are amazing. The once a month fish and chips are crazy good. The beer selection is outstanding. The outdoor seating is very nice and allows good dogs and children. The staff is great. Always friendly. Indoor seating is huge and also fun. They have also made an effort to keep prices reasonable. I'm thrilled they are in our neighborhood.

I've lived in the area for many years and Rockwell's had always been a reliable go-to for us in the past. We hadn't gone to eat there for a few years. No particular reason as I don't recall any negative experiences in the past. So when we recently went to dinner there, it was for the first time in quite awhile. It was a weekend night and so naturally we expected that it may take a little longer than usual to get a table and be served. We had tickets for a movie at the Davis afterward and so we gave ourselves a 90-minute window for dinner, thinking that should be more than enough time as the theater is fairly close to the restaurant. As it turned out, we almost didn't make the movie in time. First, the server, for some odd reason, decided to wait about 20 minutes after serving our appetizers to finally take our dinner order. Then it took just about an entire hour before we got our meals, which we had to eat as quickly as possible in order to make our movie on time. When I went to the bar to get and pay our bill, the server implied that they were a little short handed. OK, except that people at nearby tables who had been seated after us were getting their meals before we got ours. My guess is that our server was a bit disorganized and didn't know how to order his serving priorities. The food was OK, I guess. The fries were a little on the cold side, which indicated to me that my plate may have been sitting awhile before it found its way to my table. The burger I ordered was mediocre. Definitely not worth an hour and 20 minutes wait. Think it will be quite awhile before we head back to Rockwell's for a meal.

I absolutely love Rockwell's. I believe they have had some issues with staff turnover because our server is always new. Despite this, we have always had great service. The most important reason I will keep going back to Rockwell's is the food. I always get the BLT with avocado, and it is the most delicious BLT ever. I tried the chicken tortilla soup, and I will be getting that again, too. My partner loves the steak sandwich. Rockwell's is a great restaurant with good service, a decent tap list, and consistently great food. I highly recommend!

Visited tonight. We had three dads and 7year old kids. The food is what you would expect from a neighborhood grill. Nothing special. We came because it was conveniently located to where we had an event. The one star is due to an incident that the restaurant allowed and actually encouraged. At one point the three boys got up and ran to the front of the restaurant. When they returned to our table we were in the process of admonishing our boys when an old man approached from another table to berate us and disparage our kids. When we told him to sit down and we had the situation well in hand, their waiter came over to tell us to calm down. We never approached their table and only told him to move away from us. When we complained to the manager about what transpired and the behavior of their waiter, she backed him 100%. In essence, she advocated verbal assault by one patron to another and supported her waiter jumping on us as well. Needless to say, we don't feel safe bringing our kids back to a place that encourages this type of behavior. If you have kids, don't visit.

This place is the epitome of a neighbourhood place - the service is friendly, the food is above-average for 'bar food', and their bar is well-stocked. They must be kid-friendly, too, as there are almost ALWAYS families with kids there (which is not necessarily a plus, for me, but I am sure it is for some - I'm not about to ding them for it). They also allow dogs on the patio (which IS a plus for me).

Love this neighborhood place. They are so accommodating with all of their gf options. Inside is cozy and love the little outdoor patio in the summer.

Food is good, prices are about what you'd expect for the neighborhood. Some creative beer choices. Outdoor seating is available, depending on the weather. They do have a gluten-free bun option for the burger, but I don't know if they have any dedicated gluten-free dishes.

Terrific neighborhood spot. The food is always tasty and the service is always good. It's family friendly, and I really appreciate having the patio as an option when I'm trying to lower risk of contacting contagious illnesses.

Came here and was turned off by both the food and wait staff. Prices were fine but the food was mediocre at best

Above average sports bar. I went here last weekend to watch the MLB playoffs, they had all the games on, in addition to some college football. Their craft beer list actually was quite good for a sports bar, had plenty that I hadn't had before. Food was usual lineup, we all split some loaded fries and calamari, calamari was a bit dry, but fries were good. Staff were all nice and service was fast, plus they were happy to split our checks at the end, very clutch. It's located like right next to the Rockwell brown line stop, or there's street parking around, with some meters too so just be aware. I don't live up here, I was visiting friends, but if we're ever back up there again I'd gladly go back to watch a game or just hang out.

I had the black and blue burger, perfect! My son enjoyed the steak tacos. We were surprised by the former governor running past us. Overall, excellent.

This is the most perfect neighborhood bar. It is situated nearby the train and it has a nice patio area to enjoy the summer nights and cozy bar inside. I've tried almost everything on this menu and haven't been disappointed. I highly recommend the Santa Fe burger, egg roll appetizer! I've always enjoyed their rotating beer selection and the relaxed vibe here so you can bring a date here or even bring your family here. I highly recommend coming here on a summer night and get a seat at the patio!

Love this place. I had the best Cosmopolitan there. The servers are great. Everyone is so nice. The food is so good. Highly recommend.

Slightly below average bar food. Fries were disappointing, it was like we got all the ends or leftovers, a bunch of crispy thin pieces and small broken pieces. Spinach salad was fresh, it filled less than half of the bowl though. Chicken wrap was as expected, no complaints. Service was... odd. Waiter seemed confused and unable to take our order properly, nice guy but wasn't paying attention. I would return if we were in a pinch to find a place but in general there are better bar food options in the area.

Order delivery and the food was sooooo good. Burger of the month was crazy delicious and everything well cooked and well seasoned.

Hords of uncontrolled, screaming children. Very confused, slow waiters. When I pointed out that the waiter had overcharged for a can of beer, he sent the angry manager who came back at me TWICE and insisted "you should not drink something that you did not order". Avoid this messed up, Chucky Cheeze wannabe.

It's a bummer to get home and realize there is no salsa or pico de gallo with your burrito. It's been ages since you had a yummy burrito from Rockwells and you just wanted to treat yourself. "Never fear," you think, "at least my 'protein' was the grilled mushroom, onion, and jalapeño to liven it up." And then there's not a single jalapeño in the entire thing. Very blah.

We live within one block of this place and I have been always supporting our neighborhood restaurants but I m afraid that we won't be coming back after tonight. Before we started ordering, there was a BIG FAT RAT feasting at the patio area. Floor was pretty dirty, table seems really gross and greasy. We ordered some burgers and beer and a kid meal. The server told us the kids meal is $7.5 then asked us to choose American cheese or cheddar and explained it comes with fries/fruit/salad. However when we got our bill, they added 1 dollar for cheese and 1 for fruit????!! It's so unprofessional of them to up charge without notifying the customer. We ended up paying $60 for a ok meal for a couple and 2 years old for an unsatisfying meal while watching a RAT. We would love to support local restaurant but if they cannot even keep it clean and sneakily charging customers, we just won't be back

Love the food here. I think I've been back 4x for the corn waffles OR just the variety of the menu. Also recommend the nachos. Great service and friendly!

I've tried this place every other year for about 7 years and it's always really average (in a bad way), but I like the ambience and the location, so it's a shame.

I hate leaving bad reviews but don't go here. Everything was awful. Hostess had a major unnecessary attitude. Then waited over 15 minutes for the server to even acknowledge us or ask what we wanted to drink. I ordered the chopped chicken salad. When it finally came, there was NO chicken in it. Then when the waitress walked by maybe 10 min after our food was dropped not checking in; we had to flag her down), we let her know the chopped chicken salad had no chicken in it. She said "oh that's hilarious". Needless to say, we didn't think it was so hilarious.

Love this little spot! Their beers on draft are so good and their cocktails are affordable yet very yummy. The food is awesome, such a good burger but the star of the show was the Texas haystack!! You can get it as a side with their bomb burgers. Shot out to our bartender, she was so nice and attentive. Can't wait to come back soon!

The price is good. The drink specials are good. It's a nice date night in the neighborhood, or and easy family outing. They have food options that we all like. The servers are often cheerful and attentive, even when you are seated outdoors. Both the indoor and outdoor spaces are not noisy (if you like to hear your conversations). And big tvs don't distract from our time together.

Delicious.. very delicious fish tacos with salsa. Nice and crisp, goes with well with a nice brew with the corn shell option, but flour would work as well. I'm still getting the hang of all these amazing food places in my area, but a really great place and definitely will see more of my presence there. I especially like the fact that I'm not a native Chicagoan.. wearing non Chicago area sports fan apparel. Although.. lol that may change when hockey season starts again.. GO Bruins! Lol. But the Blackhawks are a great organization. Rockwell has a great selection of beer and spirits and an enjoyable menu that I can switch things up. I definitely would like to meet some new people and take them there. Rockwell's location and also that it's a short trip to and from my home makes it an ideal place to be a frequent customer there. Thanks so much for making me feel welcome.

I can't remember what was in the egg rolls but they were good so were the catfish tacos. I was hoping for a larger serving of salsa for the chips they gave which by the way was also good. Service was good. Bartender was warm and helpful in substitution process.

Great gluten free food options. The outdoor seating is still open in early fall and there was a heat lamp out, which helped on a chilly evening. Dog friendly seating. I think our server(s) forgot about us. It was likely because there were only two tables seated outside, but after our food was served nobody came back to check on us. We all independently ended up going in to get the check. Bummer as I was there with a friend and we were hoping to have more than just the one drink. Usually great service and a really nice environment. Good food and drinks!

We live in the neighborhood and regularly stopped by Rockwells...., always enjoyable and good food. Our experience on Friday night at 7pm was unpleasant. My wife and I waited about 5min to be greeted while the waitress walked by us several times to attend to a sum of 3 tables. All before taking the 5seconds to seat us. After someone attended to us we requested a table for two. There were 2 6-top tables and a 4 top table, but they found it necessary to tell us we had to sit at the bar. I advised we'd like to sit at a table. The waitress, no joke, had to talk to the manager. The manager then sat us in the back of the restaurant at a two top. Despite being frustrated at the poor hospitality, we thought things would improve. We were naive. We waited another 5+ min without any server acknowledgment, but they casually passed us to clean off dishes at the drop station immediately behind us. At this point my wife and I felt invincible to the staff and chose to leave. We walked down the street to GreenPost and had a pleasant dinner with excellent service and hospitality. We will not be going back to Rockwells and wish them the best.

I've been going to Rockwell's for a "minute." Take that in Chicago terms which means, awhile. I've been more of a casual, takeout customer. Except for one visit many years ago, I've continued taking out. No specific reason... -- I spent some time thinking about this soon after typing it. What I discovered is that I have specific times when choosing Rockwells. Usually after a hard work week or lengthy day, I want to run home and chill. But do so with something yummy. The burgers, salads and some sides have given me that enjoyment. So, I'll order takeout and pick it up when ready. Accompanying my order or on the side, I'll have a few shots of Jamesons while waiting. My constant order is a burger or fish sandwich and a side or larger salad. Dinner, Spinach or Mixed greens usually works out well. I tend to skip on fries just to be "good" to myself. But their's is hand cut which rocks over frozen.

Lovely patio seating. Delicious hand cut fries. The absolute best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had in my entire life. It's great even without bacon, but adding bacon makes it top-notch. I dream about this so much and wish I lived closer so I could eat it every day.

I really like the location and vibe of this place. It has a nice neighborhood feel both inside and out. You don't feel like a stranger. It is also very convenient to the L. I did find it to be a little loud; I think the acoustics of the space make for some echoing when families are there, which is fine, but you're not going to have an intimate conversation in the place. The beer selection is good, including a nice selection of local brews, but the first three beers that I wanted had been tapped and I had to resort to bottled beer. Not awful, but not quite what I wanted. Still, a decent selection. The food was good but not great, but the menu selections were decent. My favorite was the Louisiana eggrolls for an appetizer. Just enough kick. I had the pork belly sandwich (I don't remember the specific name) and it didn't blow my skirt up but it was OK. The fries were a little overdone. I'd go back in a second and try something less spicy on the menu. The food was very good but not spectacular but it wouldn't deter me from going back again. I look forward to giving it another shot.

I have visited on multiple occasions I like their beer selection, the location, the chilled atmosphere and the patio. But their food is very disappointing (I have tried the fish sandwich, the cheese fries, burgers and many others). Also their system calculates the tip based on the amount after tax (when it should be before tax). Not a huge deal but it bothers me.

This place is awesome. Quality food and quality people. The burgers are great plus they serve breakfast anytime. Chicken burrito is also great. My only warning is to be careful because it's tempting to eat out too much here!

Rockwell's is a longtime family favorite. The staff is friendly (especially bartender Erich) and the food is great - they are constantly making specials that elevate this beyond a neighborhood bar, though it is a cute little neighborhood bar! If you want to make yourself hungry too early in the day, follow their Facebook feed and you'll want to hit them up all the time. Recent hits: Sous vide pork tenderloin with butter, garlic and rosemary, served with golden green beans and apple-sage dressing. Angus beef patty char-grilled, topped with paneer, cilantro, onion chutney & curried special sauce on a garlic-buttered bun. Have mercy! I've never been on their patio, but hear it's a nice place to hang out when the Brown Line is not passing through. On top of that, there's usually plenty of free street parking and good music playing inside, and they brew their own Aleman beer!
