"A family owned and run restaurant on the banks of the River Ness; close to town and popular with the locals. Wide-ranging menus offer vibrant, colourful dishes that are full of flavour and have a distinct Mediterranean edge. The room has a modish feel." - Michelin Inspector

My husband and I visit Inverness 4 or more times a year and no visit is complete without dinner at Rocpool. The food is delicious and worth every penny spent. From appetisers to desserts, this restaurant exceeded all our expectations. The staff are amazing, friendly and very attentive. Our waiter was excellent and very funny. Cannot wait to return, as always.

Google
Food was good but no surprise, maybe because we ordered the set menu. The music was too loud if you want to have some whisper talks.

Google
Our group of six adults had made reservations for dinner after our Speyside Tour. The food was well one of the best meals that we had in Inverness during our stay. Staff was attentive and efficient and the deserts that we all chose were yummy! Highly recommend a visit.

Google
Lovely dinner place in Inverness. Super busy on a weekday evening, an a very vibrant atmosphere. We ordered ala carte. The tuna ceviche was delicate and well balanced, while the beef carpaccio with artichoke was quite yum. The prawn and cheese risotto was really light and creamy. My favourite of the meal was the soy and ginger glazed duck, on a mushroom risotto bed. Great find!

Google
My absolute favourite place to go for a treat. The food is perfection every time. They are so accommodating, I swap my scallops for king praws, as shown in the picture. Always have a lovely strawberry bellini when I arrive. Excellent wine list, staff very knowledgeable, and not pushy. Worth every penny!!

Google
Amazing all around. Our food was so tasty, could have licked our plates. Service was so attentive. Perfect every time we go.

Google
Excellent food and delicious drinks , we came from the US for my birthday to Inverness, and this is one of the places that was recommended to us, everything was great, I wished they did something special for my birthday , no one even said Happy Birthday or a candle , but would recommended for everyone visiting Inverness

Google
Deserves a Michelin star, no doubt. Perfectly chosen ingredients that are married together in a culinary piece of art painted on every plate. The restaurant is beautiful and the service is outstanding. Legendary cocktails to make your meal even more memorable. Memorable meal indeed.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Seafood pasta dish did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
We were in Scotland for a wedding and happened to be there for my husband's 30th! Found this place online and booked it because of the great reviews. Get a reservation! Lovely ambiance, delicious food, and super super great staff. Perfect spot for an upscale meal in Inverness!

Alex R.

Yelp
Great all around. Very reasonsably oriced. Recommendations on wine and food were welcomed.

Annmarie N.

Yelp
Delicious wine menu. Gorgeous food. Fabulous service throughout our dining experience. Took the seafood soup as a starter. This was so delicious and rich that it honestly could have been my entire meal. Also took the linguini. Also delicious -- with huge scallops and tender shrimp. For desert the pavlova. Two bites perfected the meal. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Came here on a golf trip with a group of eight. Lovely little place with great views of the River Ness. Service was fantastic and 8 guys with a hearty appetite for wine did not deter them The food was excellent, i had the duck special that wonderful. Cooked perfectly, we pretty much covered the menu with 8 people and everything looked great. I highly recommend this restaurant

Yelp
I was here with John at least four years ago and enjoyed it then. This time I chose a gin and tonic. It was the best gin I had ever tasted! We had a lovey time sitting outside until we were chilled then we went inside and enjoyed the comfy seating area inside.

Lisa R.

Yelp
Best food ever!! The staff is so nice here. I dined alone because my husband wasn't feeling well and it was such a wonderful experience. The appetizer, the meal with dessert , the drink none of it could've been any better. This was truly the best meal I had had in my life. The desert was rhubarb something. It had a few different types of rhubarb, and every part of it was delicious. My appetizer was a curry risotto with prawns. I wanted to lick the dish. and my piece of fish for the main was amazing as well. I don't even like fish and I wanted to lick this plate clean as well. I had a passion fruit cocktail, and the presentation as well of the flavor was as good as it gets.

Yelp
Make a reservation! This place is BUSY. Stopped in for lunch and glad I did. I'd reserved a month earlier. The price fixed lunch menus is great as my appetizer and meal were fantastic. The prawn rolls and salmon. Great Creme brûlée too. My son had the Speyside venison which was fantastic. A gem in Inverness

Frank M.

Yelp
We stayed in the Palace Hotel less than a block away. The fish was good and service excellent. Make reservations ahead of time as they were booked up with a notice of it on the door. We had made reservations the day before. Ambiance is nice but somewhat crowded.

Chris B.

Yelp
Came for a Good Friday lunch with friends and had a fantastic time. Food was amazing, great service and ambiance. We were looked after brilliantly by Steven and his staff. Can't wait to return

Claudia L.

Yelp
Loved the food here right in the city center. Classy modern place with attentive staff and excellent service! Had the carpaccio and lamb - amazing! Others had the duck and steak - also very good. For a special night out this is the place to go!

Ben Y.

Yelp
American Tourist here. Food was really good, prices are pretty much what you would expect for this type of restaurant. Not cheap but not horrendous. The Speyside Venison and Wild Sea Bass Risotto are really some of the best i've ever had. The service was average...pretty slow but that seems to be the norm in the UK...

Stephanie K.

Yelp
One of the best dinners I've had ever. It's the type of food that makes you dance while you eat it. Steven knows how to turn a dinner into an extraordinary dining experience. (She says as she dances away).

Tianyi W.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant I have ever had in the Scotland! The risotto here is amazing ! And every dish looks so good and tastes good as well! 5 Star!

Wendy B.

Yelp
Best restaurant of our 5 weeks in Ireland & Scotland. Best haggis on the planet. Great location near the river in Inverness. Superlative food and service! Beautifully decorated as well.

Carol K.

Yelp
Bravo, Rocpool! You pulled off a very successful evening the other night for the large group that I brought through your doors. And you did it with little notice! I had heard of Rocpool from a friend who had visited the area before. I doubted I could get a same day reservation (especially for a group of 9) but I called with my fingers crossed and they said they could accommodate us. Since it was a short walk from our hotel, we all arrived en masse and were immediately seated at a large table in the front window. This place is lovely. Contemporary, in tones of green and brown with dark wood set off by glittering lights. Even the bathrooms downstairs are artful with separate facilities but 5 or 6 communal sinks with sparkling fixtures. If you get there before 7 there is a prix fixe menu with your choice of a starter and entree for £15.95. The catch is that you have to be out of your seat before 8:30. Some in our group ordered from that menu, and others, like me, chose to go off of the regular dinner menu. I had the heirloom tomato salad with feta cheese (amazing!) and the linguine with shrimp and scallops (also amazing!). My friend went with the risotto with peas as his starter and the pork. Both were equally delicious. And for dessert, we shared fresh raspberries and strawberries with ice cream, honey and pistachios. I have never seen such plump, sweet berries. This was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. Our servers were outstanding, and didn't even flinch when we tried to explain that we needed the bill split in a variety of ways. And whoever was making our cocktails was able to make a pretty decent Manhattan (even though they had never heard of it) with just a little coaching. If you don't go for the set menu- it will run you about £30 a person (including drinks and dessert) so the set menu is a pretty good deal. I don't get surprised often when I eat out but Rocpool surprised me with it's amazing food, excellent service and lovely ambiance. It rivals some of the best restaurants I have eaten in and that should tell you all you need to know!

Yelp
I just can't understand how anyone that comes in here would leave without giving 5 stars! Went for our anniversary with my girlfriend (vegetarian) and had to book weeks in advance as is so popular. From the moment we arrived we had first class service. The food was exceptional! Beautifully presented and pure quality. Had great service with really good recommendations for wines. Had an amazing espresso martini that was just to die for. In my opinion this IS the best restaurant in Inverness without a shadow of a doubt

Audrey W.

Yelp
Pretty good although one of those places who makes their food far more pretentious in presentation than need be. Starter soup -- mushroom -- was delicious. I had the halibut as an entree and the fish was very fresh and well cooked, but there was a lot of extra stuff on the plate that took away from that.

Gareth M.

Yelp
Amazing place. We had a big table of 7, split between generations, and the staff was extremely attentive, knowledgable, and patient. I had the scallops & chorizo to start and it was a special dish. The server/sommelier knew their wine list well and was able to pick a great rioja to go with my main. Next time I find myself in Inverness I know I'll visit Rocpool again!

Heather M.

Yelp
This restaurant has it all - great atmosphere, service and food! Service was very attentive, and our every need was taken care of. Great wine list at reasonable prices, and the food was fantastic! Probably the best meal we had on our 2 week holiday. Make reservations, as they seemed very busy. Will definitely be back if we are ever in Inverness again!

Emily T.

Yelp
This is a lovely restaurant - lovely food and great atmosphere! It's nice little walk from the centre of town so is ideal if you're looking for somewhere nearby to eat after/during a days shopping. The waiters are lovely too - they flirt with the girls and call the men handsome - what more do you want?! The restaurant itself is quite big but narrow, if you get stuck in the seat near the walkway then prepare to move a lot. Foodwise, rocpool offers a good selection. They keep it simple so they can't get it wrong. It's quite expensive though, and serves the same type of food as the mustard seed opposite the river bank. The location of rocpool is brilliant, it sits on the bank of the canal and overlooks the city. Lovely!

Adam T.

Yelp
First time to Scotland and we were told to not miss this place. It was fantastic. The food was all well balanced and flavorful. The service was excellent. Great location. It wasn't super cheap, but for a Michelin star restaurant, I did not find it overly expensive. Quality was excellent with every dish we got. You can not go wrong.

Stephen D.

Yelp
Classiest act in Inverness, fantastic atmosphere and phenomenal food is why this is Inverness's best restaurant. Service is great, wine list sensational and don't forget to ask about the wines of the month. Prices are spot on for the quality of food and the owner, Steven Devlin, is passionate about his business as well as being a great guy. Update - back for dinner last night and BLOWN AWAY, langoustines to start and the best Halibut main course I've EVER eaten.

Luke J.

Yelp
Amazing dinner, very good service, excellent allergy accommodation. Highly recommend for a high class dinning experience.

Ed W.

Yelp
Great place. My wife and I ate here while in Inverness. The food was excellent and the service was spot on.

Jorge R.

Yelp
Amazing food, nice wine list; the 2 course menu is excellent. The chowder is beyond of this planet!

Richard Y.

Yelp
Rocpool was recommended by our hotel and we could not be happier for it, both food and service was excellent. Recommend the Scallop and chorizo appetizer, filet or shrimp linguini for dinner and white chocolate and coconut with banana and butterscotch cheesecake for dessert!

Yann P.

Yelp
We heard about the place via friends, and the hotel recommended it too. So here we are during our holidays... First of all the location is nice, on a street corner next to the river. Easy to find. Then the welcome: the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. For the food: simply delicious. The dishes are original, perfectly prepared, tasty, refined. A mix between probably somekind of scottish heritage and modern international cooking. The only negative, but that's common to 99% of restaurants in Scotland and the UK, when you order rare meat, you get medium rare. But still it was delicious. The desserts themselves are also excellent and a good way to finish the evening :-) And their whisky menu is great too for after dinner (as most other places in Scotland ;-) )

Yelp
'This place is outstanding' says I whilst I give a standing ovation, a round of applause and a few wolf whistles thrown in for good measure. Honestly, I cannot sing its praises enough! This small but stylish restaurant in Inverness city centre is such a pleasure to dine in without paying outrage prices of the likes of The Ivy (yes, that's what I'm comparing it to!!!). It is a definite treat without being too much of a splurge price wise. They offer a two course lunch menu for £13.95 or two course early evening menu for £15.95. Although these are a little more expensive compared to some of the other restaurants offering lunch and early evening menus around Inverness, it is well worth paying the couple of pounds difference. The owner Stephen is always around to welcome you, top up your glass and ensure that you are not left wanting for anything. With a few jokes chucked in for good measure he makes sure that you have a memorable experience for all the right reasons. Don't worry, you won't be rushed out the door here as you can sit with an after dinner drink or coffee all afternoon. Their menus are always well varied so there should be something to suit everyone from vegetarians, to fish lovers to red meat carnivores. This is fine dining without the price tag. If you haven't noticed already then I'm a huge fan but then again so is all of Inverness so make sure you reserve a table. The complimentary home (or kitchen) made olive and tomato bread are simply divine but make sure you leave room for desert! The sweet menu is simply heaven and must not be skipped! At £5.95 a desert this is a complete bargain for the taste and quality. The only bad thing I'd say about this place is I want everything on the menu and it takes me ages to decide what to have! I'd give it 10 out of 5 stars if I could and go every week if I lived in Inverness. Amazing, AMAZING, A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!!!!

Spencer G.

Yelp
A huge disappointment. A waste of time, and money. After walking around Inverness for 30 minutes, being turned down by 3 restaurants on a Friday Night because every place was booked, my father and older brother, walked into this joint. They sat us down at "the last table" (next to to the toilet, next to the kitchen). I swear, the same waitresses walked by us at least 5 times before I eye fucked the shit out of the MANAGER. I am usually very patient when eating, but entering this place was just a bad vibe. The food was expensive. The plates and dishes were SO little. These kinds of restaurants make the place look very elegant, make the food look good, and hip, but it does NOT taste as good as it looks. Above all, we spent an hour and a half in a place that was shit, and should have taken 45 minutes. Don't go. Oh, the manager had corn for teeth.

Maria M.

Yelp
One of the best experiences for dinner we have had in our trip through Ireland and Scotland. The food was great. The service was incredibly friendly. The owner is very charismatic and makes you feel like it matters that you have a good experience. Great wine on the menu.

Jesse M.

Yelp
Our fine dining choice while in the Highlands during our UK trip. Place is a bit packed, a long corridor of booths and tables, I was seated sort of in the aisle. Rocpool was packed by the time our food was arriving, and it was arriving a bit slower than expected due to the rush I imagine. The food was well prepared and using local produce, a nice touch. The cocktail menu was a bit lacking, settled on some good whiskey by the time my venison arrived. Under seasoned in spots, a common issue among most restaurants we visited in the UK. Overall a great light meal to end our day however lacking some additional flair. I think Rocpool could do with some more intimate dining areas, a more structured 3 course arrangement, and a spruced up cocktail menu.

Rachel Z.

Yelp
Awesome experience, from the hostess who greeted us to the server to the bartender, everyone was the epitome of fine dining staff! The food was phenomenal, absolutely spectacular, ambiance was just what we were looking for on our honeymoon, very intimate and classy. Overall, this lovely restaurant absolutely lives up to all of the hype, so not miss out!

Heather L.

Yelp
I was looking forward to trying the Rocpool restaurant after seeing so many positive reviews. and I had made our reservations long before the trip. Although we had dinner at 6:30pm I was still able to order off the early evening menu which included 2 course for £19.95. Dinner got off to an excellent start with my first course. I chose the pea and spinach risotto (minus the ham) with whipped goat's cheese. It was absolutely delicious. I was already stuffed after the first course. For my second course I didn't choose as wisely and ordered the sea bream with salad. It wasn't my cup of tea but I was also stuffed which didn't help. The hubby ordered off the a la carte menu and started with the summer salad. To follow he had the linguine with king scallops, king prawns, with oven roasted tomatoes. It was delicious! Until my husband found a piece of hair in his meal. He was so disappointed that he couldn't finish what was left of his dinner. He mentioned it to the server and she sent the manager over. We were very surprised when we found that they took it off the bill as we were not expecting it.Overall we really enjoyed the restaurant and not even the hair would stop us from returning!

Tracy C.

Yelp
The Heathmount hotel where I was staying highly recommended this for my dinner while in town. It did not disappoint. My starter was fried potato gnocchi with pulled pork. Amazing! I had the halibut and it was heavenly. The service was excellent. Wine choices perfect. The atmosphere is relaxed. I will be back when next in town.

Leslie C.

Yelp
Unexpectedly good. Seafood was fresh with exciting flavours. Service was also excellent.

Tiva D.

Yelp
Very yummy. Here for work and came here for lunch via suggestion of the hotel Concierge. Food was very good. Service was great. Felt like I was back in the US. Nice ambience. Definitely go eat here if you're visiting Inverness.

Mike W.

Yelp
While it's nice to see innovation in Inverness dining the Rocpool doesn't quite manage to rise to the challenge of its aspirations. The dishes draw well on local produce and are competently prepared but lack neither the simplicity to maximise the quality of the ingredients or sufficient complexity to make them more than the sum of their parts. Neither the dining experience nor the service rate the higher price tag especially with many equally good, or better, restaurants within a short walk.

Timothy B.

Yelp
Amazing food and service!!! By far the best restaurant in Inverness. If your here on holiday this a great place to go. Easily New York City quality with a much better price tag.

Jill W.

Yelp
We forgot to make reservations for dinner this Saturday and were having trouble finding a restaurant nearby that could seat us. We figured it was a longshot but asked at Rocpool if they had a table. As luck would have it, another couple had not shown up for their reservation so we got in! We were not disappointed in the least. Great, friendly staff, and creative beautiful dishes that tasted amazing! I highly recommend this place if you're in the Inverness area.

Vincent V.

Yelp
Went there last night and the staff and accommodations could not have been nicer. The menu is very creative with seafood a distinct favorite. We were seated at a front table that provided a great view of the waterfront. The prices were a bit high - but the quality of the food and the creativity of the ingredients made it a one in a lifetime stop. Highly recommend!

Red P.

Yelp
this place is amazing! the food is delicious and i was given the best food i've ever had before! its great for the price and the head chef is the nicest person ever! definitely recommend as its the best place ive ever been too. the staff are all so so sweet and nice and they all have great manners.

Norman M.

Yelp
It's a shame that this fine restaurant is not listed among the 'places to eat' available from the Information Center. Close to the St. Andrews cathedral and across the river from the center of town, I strongly recommend this restaurant. Food is tasty and nicely presented by friendly servers. I would definitely go back.

Jim G.

Yelp
Definitely one of the best meals we have had in Scotland. Little pricey but the food does not disappoint. I had the monkfish and my wife had the halibut. Both were excellent. Service was good as well.

Carol D.

Yelp
Amazing food, service and atmosphere. We didn't have a reservation and the host recommended we go two doors down for a drink, then he came to find us when our table was ready. Lovely wine list and great desserts.

Morag H.

Yelp
Always reliable, efficient service and you can rely on a good choice of freshly made, light dishes. Contemporary menu without city prices.
