The NYC Bar Hit List: Great New Bars In NYC

"The hottest place to sweat this summer is the outdoor sidewalk seating at Rodeo, where you can submit to the heat with a glass of chilled red, and onion dip topped with trout roe. But if the outdoor seating at this Crown Heights bar is packed, head inside, where there's a few big tables for groups, daily cocktails (recently a mezcal paper plane), and floor-to-ceiling windows that let every ounce of daylight in. We’ve heard rumors they’ll be opening a dance floor next door soon, which means you can wear your most impractical shoes, and stay out the whole night without ever leaving the same block on President Street. NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"If pairing earthy reds with a mortadella, sharp cheddar, and a mustard toastie or anchovies is up your alley, you should know about Rodeo. The natural wine and cocktail bar in Crown Heights will host pop-ups through the summer, and looks like an ideal spot to lean back in a metal chair out on the sidewalk and drink a chilled glass of wine. Everyone has one of those places, right? Not just us?" - will hartman

NYC Restaurant Openings, June 2024 | Eater NY

"A natural wine bar from Rhodora alums that’s already contending for bar of the summer, pairing a natural bottle list with a small food menu that includes items like a mortadella sandwich; the bar is attached to a record shop run by DJs Chances With Wolves." - Eater Staff

Rodeo - Review - Crown Heights - New York - The Infatuation

"You won’t find cowboy hats or a mechanical bull at Rodeo, but this Crown Heights bar is still a fun place to hang out. The brick-walled spot on President Street has a few large booths where you and all your friends can squeeze in, and a bright red bar with a bucket of open wine bottles. There’s also a daily cocktail—like a not-too-sweet mezcal paper plane—and bar snacks like heavily spiced peanuts and Anthony's famous onion dip. (The folks behind Ha’s Đặc Biệt—one of whom is named Anthony—helped designed the menu here.) On warm days, the outdoor seating in the front gets packed, but the floor-to-ceiling windows make every seat inside the best one. Come for a solo mortadella toastie at the bar, or with a group for a few bottles of perfectly chilled reds and oranges. photo credit: Willa Moore photo credit: Willa Moore photo credit: Willa Moore Pause Unmute" - Willa Moore

This bar attracts a very rowdy crowd. I partially grew up in Crown Heights, so I know this area very well pre-gentrification. Friday and Saturday nights are extremely anxiety inducing. The music is extremely loud. There are too many patrons making the sidewalk inaccessible for other neighborhood and block residents. The bar doesn’t look inviting or welcoming and I find that this is a huge nuisance. I don’t know why they were allowed to open this place on a residential street like this. The crowd, mostly young, whiter patrons are extremely obnoxious. There’s frequent trash around this bar, loud crowds walking on President street (where I live) making it hard to enjoy a nights sleep and arguments between drunk people. I’ll address this at the next Community Board meeting because something needs to be done about how they operate. It’s unfair to long time residents of this neighborhood in my opinion. The patrons and the owner are clearly uninterested in respecting residents on the block.

Perfect ambiance with delightful people. Exposed brick, fun lamps, and delicious drinks. Bartender Sophie was awesome — accommodated our requests and gave a great overview of the different offerings. Will be coming back here! 🍷❤️

Very nice atmosphere and good sandwiches! I had the tuna and it tasted very fresh. Their mustard is amazing.

Really cool spot, with a great selection of wines and drinks. Love the decor of the place and the dance room in the back. They definitely need another bathroom and a way to keep air circulating inside the space. Once the room was packed, it started to smell like a gym.

There was no music playing and rude service. You really expect me to read that ugly mirror whenever it’s dark? It’s not even well organized

i love this place. decor is simple, cocktail, food menus and liquor selection are minimal, but the staff and the vibe are so positive that this is now one of my favorite hangouts. the outdoor seating, particularly in warmer months is quite popular, and the attached record shop brings a unique and complementary twist to the location. dancing on the weekends in their attached function space and i think they also do comedy on a weeknight. staff are all awesome, and the clientele are easygoing. a solid local bar.

I hate to be that reviewing troll but I was sooo disappointed in the pretentious attitude of the bartenders last night. I used to listen to the owner’s radio show in college and was happy to come support this business. Bartenders couldn’t be bothered to share about the wine, instead just laughed when I tried identifying varietals… also my friend tried building rapport with bartender and she responded with snarky “ why would I remember you.” This attitude is no way to build a welcoming community. Too old to be acting like that. So good luck at the bar, but the radio and dance space is cute and fun.
