This sports bar seems to have sprung up specifically to serve the S3 Softball league, so I'm pretty sure they are still working out the kinks. They sponsor the league and give us two free pitchers of beer (Miller Lite only) per team to come here after the games. It's a nice location within walking distance of McCarren Park.
We were the earliest scheduled game this week, so we were the first ones done. This also means that we were the first teams to get to the bar. There was no one else in there. Not one sport-loving soul. Thankfully, my softball team is awesome so I didn't mind hanging out with just them for a while. We also got the prime table area near the windows on possibly the nicest day of the season thus far -- score!
I was a little hungover from the Friday night before, so I started with a coke. All beverages were served in plastic solo cups. Quirky, but okay. The one bartender there also didn't know how much it cost for just a coke. She tried to look it up, couldn't find it, and the just phrased it as a question. "How about $2.00?"
I am quite sure that this place does not serve food. Each member of our team seemed to slink off one by one to go get food at one of the many local pizza places, or the subway down the road. We just finished playing for an hour, we are hungry! A few members of our team ordered sushi to get delivered to the bar using seamless, and no one from management (I.e. the lone bartender) said anything or offered menus. At that point other teams were following our lead by getting pizzas delivered to the bar, still without comment. So, an extra star for the bartender having to clean up after the pizza eaters without complaining or giving nasty looks when the deliveries arrived. Get some bar food going, at least!
I do feel like even as the seas of colored shirts flooded the bar, everyone was still saying, "Why don't we walk down to 4th Down?" Apparently, they sponsored the league last year. According to rumor, they didn't want to sponsor us this year because we were too loud at the after parties last year. Hmmm, well maybe our loud fun party will single handedly start up the Roebling Sporting Club. Come on a Saturday when we are all dressed in bright orange, lime green, and fuchsia t-shirts and you'll be in for a rowdy crowd, with a side of you-can-wear-whatever-you-want-and-still-look-better-than-the-softball-players at no additional charge.
