The Newest Restaurants In Chicago

"The team behind Uptown Taproom (and Willow Cafe & Bistro, which opened last week) expanded into Rogers Park. Unsurprisingly, Rogers Park Taproom And Coffee House is a mashup where you can get beer and cocktails as well as coffee, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches." - john ringor, veda kilaru, nick allen

Lincoln Square Taproom’s Owner to Open a Bistro in the Cafe Selmarie Space | Eater Chicago

"Planned for 1615 W. Howard Street, Rogers Park Taproom & Coffee House is another liquor-license application from Pillman for the former Sol Cafe space; he said he aims to make up for that cafe's closure by serving Hexe Coffee alongside beer, cocktails, breakfast and lunch." - Naomi Waxman

Empirical Brewery Review - Rogers Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Empirical Brewery is a brew pub in Rogers Park where you’ll pretty much always be able to get a table, even if you’re with a group. They incorporate their beer into as much of the food as possible, and the menu lets you know which dishes are beer-infused. For instance, in addition to stuff like corned beef with beer mustard, there are things like shepherd’s pie wontons with beer gravy. The beers are boldly flavored, and you can definitely taste their influence in the food. So if you don’t like ale in your brussels sprout salad, this might not be the place for you." - Adrian Kane

Lovely new gem to Rogers Park. I enjoyed my iced vanilla latte in a cozy environment with nice and friendly staff. Perfect for studying, working or just hanging out with friends. The seating is perfect and there's a lot of nice plants around giving it an earthy ambience. I am looking forward to spending more time here and seeing them thrive!

Google
A really generic and sterile coffee shop that replaced a much better coffee shop that had a lot of character. The only good part of the cafe is the queer baristas who are friendly and kind. The coffee isn’t very good unless you’re putting cream and sugar in it. They have a “no public bathrooms” sign posted twice with a list of homeless shelters next to their sign— pretty ignorant energy for a gentrifying coffee shop on Howard to tell our houseless neighbors “you can’t use our bathroom, so travel across the city and find a shelter.” It’s worth the extra 10 min walk to just go to Charmers on Jarvis instead.

Had the best spiked dirty chai there! The vibe is great and the fact that they’re a cafe and serve alcohol makes them even more appealing. They also do a lot of community based work, which I love.

We played games while having a good hot latte and some pastries. They had a 1$ pastry deal, love that. The staff is very friendly and nice.

$5 for an extremely small cup of burnt coffee but was supposed to a cappuccino. Another $5 for what may be the worst scone I’ve ever tasted. More like a doorstop. Was so dense I asked for a knife to cut. After tipping, I was asked by Barista to please take my cup/saucer and plate and place in the kitchen bin that was sitting in the back of coffee shop.

I went there when it opened at 8 am and the coffee was absolutely terrible. Burnt coffee. They also hate homeless people and actively will not let you use the restroom in the event of an emergency unless you buy something

Yelp
This is a newer cafe in Rogers Park. We came on a Sunday and it was surprisingly quiet and empty inside. The owner said they've been open for 8 months now. They do sell liquor as well, but we were strictly there for our morning coffee! My husband enjoyed his iced coffee and I loved my dirty chai latte. The vibe inside is cozy and it's a huge space. There's lots of lighting, and they have wifi so it would be a great place to work too. My kids enjoyed their pastries (a chocolate frosted donut and a pumpkin muffin) and they were entertained with the selection of board games. They also have a retro pacman game at the back of the cafe. I'll definitely go back!

Yelp
Open at 7 on Saturday. I am new to the neighborhood and the service was fast and polite. So close to Howard train station! What a great way to start my morning. Thank you!

Yelp
Awesome shop where Sol Cafe used to be. The prices were very reasonable, especially for cocktails! Best I've seen in Chicago. Service was a little slow, but the barista was very apologetic and kind. I went with some friends and we were all content with our drinks. Wasn't too busy so it would be a great place to get some work done.

Yelp
I wrote the first review and I'm afraid it's gotten worse. The coffee is like battery acid. The place now looks like a construction zone. Usually only one person working the counter because of the understandable low volume. Stay away. This is a place that should go out of business, it's that bad.

Yelp
I know they're relatively new, so I'm trying not to be too harsh. The coffee was fine, but service was exceedingly slow. I was told my breakfast sandwich would be on an english muffin, but it wound up being on some kind of dinner-roll-thing. I'm going to blame growing pains, and mostly reserve judgement for the moment. I liked that they had a shelf of board games available, the staff was nice, and the chairs looked comfy (I was just getting something to go).
