Pepperoni Rolls Are a Classic Dish in the Rust Belt and Appalachia | Eater

"For a modern take, Rolling Pepperoni, founded by West Virginia native Katt Schuler, pushes the dish forward while honoring tradition: the current menu includes a vegan roll with banana peppers and marinated artichoke hearts and a more adventurous take that combines pepperoni with dill pickles, Jarlsberg cheese, and chopped red onion." - Danny Palumbo

Take a Food-Filled Road Trip Through Pittsburgh’s Appalachian Culture | Bon Appétit

"A modern take on the coal miners’ pepperoni roll, offering riffs from the classic Hometown (pepperoni and provolone) to vegan and Greek variations; the baker-owner is also active in Appalachian leadership programs, linking the food to community work." - ByMike Scalise

the idea is really good, but the product itself is a little bit underwhelming. we tried a wagon wheele and a monongahela, both were bland. i wish there was more flavor, spice and filling, the dough could have more texture. but i really appreciate the effort and the concept we definitely going back and try again.

I tried this place during the Lawrenceville cookie walk. These pepperoni rolls are so good. The monoghaela is the one pictured. Comes with kalamata olives inside. Such unique flavor! I would not sleep on this place, go try it.

Really wanted to like this place but unfortunately was extremely disappointed. Tried four different rolls and all of them were bland, mildly undercooked, and very greasy. Since they only sell pepperoni rolls, I expected them to be exceptional, or at least better than average- neither was the case. Was really surprised by how little filling there was in each of them- it would have been fine if they had been more flavorful but they were essentially just sad greasy doughy rolls. Staff was friendly enough. Wouldn’t go back and recommend pretty much any where else for better pep rolls.

Google
It’s a pepperoni roll place, sure. But they actually have some really creative rolls that are great. I’ve been twice and was happy with the food both times. First time I my rolls came with a really good marinara sauce but most recently I didn’t get that included… maybe because this time I only got one roll. Overall really good, worth the trip, especially if you’re nearby.

The rolls are so yummy! I got the minis and my group tried some other flavors, which were all amazing. The girl working (possibly the owner?) was very sweet. Definitely recommend

I've had these rolls from other locations, and finally made it to the shop for some freshies for a post-hike snack. Even with it being pepperoni-forward, there are some solid vegetarian options that really hit the spot and was much appreciated. Next time I'll need to stop here before the hike for a perfect trail side snack.

Finally stopped in today and it was totally worth it. Katt is delightful to chat with. The space is really cool inside, love the focus on Appalachia and the coffee was great. The pepperoni rolls are not run if the mill and that is great! They even have veg and vegan options (yes, no pepperoni)....and the pepperoni rolls come with lots of fun options. Stop in and help a small business grow. And while you may not like the parking lot be glad they have one!

The proprietor makes creative, tasty, and unique rolls that include and go way beyond pepperoni. And she cares about the community. Order ahead or arrive early before she sells out!

Yelp
I have been to Rolling Pepperoni twice now. It is worth the drive to get there. Don't be scared when you see it on a busy road. There is a small parking lot on the other side of the billboard to the left of the building that is easy to park in. The rolls are very reasonably priced at 4 for $12 or individual rolls for $4. I think at this point between 2 visits I've tried every single one on the menu. I have to say my favorite is the hometown roll which is just a regular pepperoni roll. It is delicious! They have several vegetarian options if you do not eat pepperoni that are also quite tasty. They offer a preorder option which is super convenient. I'm definitely stopping again in the near future because who doesn't love a pepperoni roll?!

Yelp
Have been a fan since the farmer market days. So happy to see they have a brick and mortar location. It's a lovely little shop with the most delicious pepperoni rolls and so much more. Made from the freshest ingredients so you're always getting the best. They also ship which is rad. Wanna eat something good? Do it by supporting this local business.

Yelp
AWESOME PEPPERONI ROLLS! This was an awesome Yelp event I was honored to take part in. I picked up 7 rolls total: two Homestyle pepperoni and cheese, two pepperoni and hot pepper, two pepperoni and olive, and of course we had to try the pepperoni and pickle (which ended up being our fav!!). The rolls are fresh, homemade and so tasty! Service was also wonderful at the shop! We spoke with the shop owner (I did not get her name unfortunately) who was so sweet and let us know how to reheat the rolls and answered all of our questions. We will definitely be back again. These would be great to order ahead for a party or especially during football season!

Yelp
Came at 10:20 on a Wednesday when they were supposed to be open 10-4. Locked. Sign on the door even says hours for Wednesday. Bummed.

Yelp
We've driven by Rolling Pepperoni many times and finally got a chance to stop in once we realized they had a parking lot. This was such a cute shop, and the pepperoni rolls were delish and they only cost less than $4 a roll! The hot trot roll was my favorite, and it wasn't actually as spicy as I thought it would be. It had the perfect kick of spice, just enough to let you know it had some peppers. The breading tasted fresh and was very thick. I could totally see myself stopping here for a quick bite on my way to the highway. The staff was very friendly!!

Yelp
I stopped by here this a couple of Saturdays ago with my wife for some pepperoni rolls. We had not heard of Rolling Pepperoni before and since we both love pepperoni rolls, were excited whenever a Yelp event popped up here. It it's located on Butler Street right across the RD Fleming bridge which means that I have driven by it a number of times without ever having noticed it. After looking it up online we were easily able to find it and parked in the parking lot right next to it. Immediately upon entering the shop both my wife and I were greeted with the inviting smell of pepperoni and baking bread. The inside of the shop here doesn't consist of much, just a display case full of pepperoni rolls and a place to order. Then they have a kitchen and oven where they were making more rolls. After perusing through the menu my wife ended up choosing the hometown pepperoni roll and the caprese. Since we had ordered two rolls, the lady working there let us know that if we bought one more that we would get another one for free (they always have a buy 3 get 1 free promotion). While normally I would do that, we had 3 other rolls already due to the Yelp Elite event that was going on here and so I passed. As soon as we ordered the rolls were plucked from the display case and we paid for them and were headed home. Both of the rolls that we had ordered tasted good and had a nice ratio of roll to fillings. The hometown pepperoni roll was your classic pepperoni and cheese roll which tasted really good, especially their pepperoni. Then the caprese roll was a bit different in that it had no pepperoni, but I really enjoyed the sun dried tomatoes in it and they gave a nice pop of flavor. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I were both happy with the pepperoni rolls and we were happy to find a new local business!

Yelp
Rolled up to Rolling Pepperoni on Saturday to try out a couple rolls. Unfortunately, their truck didn't show up and they were nearly sold out. I was however able to try the caprese roll and it was great! I'm not usually one to get a pizza without meat, so I'm almost glad they were sold out of everything else to force me to try one I wouldn't normally try! I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it! Will have to return someday when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Excellent food, friendly and welcoming owner, and great service! We loved hearing the story of this business and also the stories of Appalachia that are highlighted through Rolling Pepperoni. We can't wait to come back!
