This New Summer Sleeper Train Travels From Rome to the French Coast – Here’s How To Buy Tickets

Offering a glamorous summer sleeper service between Rome and Marseille, this Riviera Express train runs weekly, departing Rome’s Termini station on Friday evenings and arriving on the French Mediterranean coast by Saturday morning, then leaving Marseille on Saturday evenings and reaching Rome in the early hours. It features sleeping cars with private compartments and more affordable couchettes in the overnight section starting from around $48, and once the nighttime portion is over, the train’s layout changes to include lounges and first- and second-class seats. The full scenic route after leaving Rome includes stops at Genoa, Savona, Alassia, Imperia, Sanremo, and Ventimiglia in Italy, before crossing into France and stopping at Menton, Monaco, Nice, Cannes, Saint-Raphaël–Valescure, Toulon and finally Marseille, running as a special seasonal service from July 4 to August 30, with tickets sold via the Trenitalia website. - Liv Kelly

A Bustling and Well-Connected Hub in the Heart of Rome. Roma Termini is a massive train station, serving as a primary gateway for domestic and international travel across Italy and Europe. The station's architecture is a blend of historical and modern elements, making it an impressive sight. Inside, you'll find a wide range of food shops and restaurants, as well as plenty of self-service train ticket machines for a quick and easy experience. The platform information is clear and easy to follow, which is essential given the station's size. For seamless movement, both escalators and stairs are available to connect the various levels of the station. If you are going through Metro, have some time in hand as from getting off from Metro and reaching the Main platforms will take some time. A alot of options for shopping (its like a Mall). The station definitely needs air-conditioning in hot weather. Air circulation is bad. Seating area is also less in comparison to the number of tourists transiting from station. All major train companies have offices as well as kiosk machines.

I recently traveled through Rome Termini Central Station. The station itself is quite large, with many shops, restaurants, and good train connections across Italy. It’s convenient if you’re heading to other cities. However, I have to mention that the area around the station didn’t feel very safe. I saw a lot of homeless people nearby, and the atmosphere was uncomfortable, especially in the evening. I would recommend being extra cautious with your belongings and avoiding walking alone at night in the surrounding streets. Overall, it’s practical for transportation, but the environment outside could definitely be improved.

Huge station with many retail shops, bars and cafes. Toilets are relatively clean. There’s a new toilet on second floor too. You got to pay 1.50 euro to enter the toilet and only pay by exact cash.

May 2025. Our first time in a train station like this. Simple to find your train. Even though it is quick to transfer, allocate enough time with a buffer to transfer because sometimes trains are late. It may take a while to catch a taxi in busy times, but the line keeps moving

Well-connected and spacious train station in the heart of Rome. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and transportation options available. Can get very crowded, especially during peak hours. Security presence is noticeable, but keep an eye on your belongings. A practical and central hub for travelers exploring the city or heading elsewhere in Italy.

Friendly, helpful train station staff and Frecciarossa staff. The train is amazing in business class they even give you food to eat on your journey from Rome to Naples. It's very quiet in the train and so comfortable, you have a table, leather chairs, power for phone and laptop. Its one of my best experiences so far on a train. Australia has nothing like this in Italy. That's why they are the most advanced society in the world. Can't believe it took me so long to visit my families heritage.

Pretty huge station, lot of shops in and around the terminus. The platforms were ok, not an entirely seamless process. But as a large busy terminus railway station, it is good enough.

Roma Termini station is a bustling hub that offers more than just trains. The station boasts an impressive array of designer stores, making it a convenient spot for some high-end shopping. Coffee lovers will appreciate the excellent coffee options available, ensuring you can get a quality cup of espresso while you wait. The lounges provide a comfortable space to relax, and the easy-to-read display boards make navigating the station straightforward. However, one downside is the difficulty in finding toilets, which can be a bit frustrating. Despite this, the overall experience at Roma Termini is quite positive. Four stars for the amenities and convenience!
