Denver’s Best Pizza Restaurants | Eater Denver

"When a hankering for old-school red sauce strikes, this Littleton institution cheerfully delivers — just as it has since 1967. Stained-glass lamps, roomy maroon booths, and a crowd full of families celebrating this or that occasion set the mood for tomato-splashed, brick oven–fired pies with thin, crunchy crusts that support the likes of shaved roast beef with roasted peppers and onions, meatballs and pepperoni with jalapeños, and even a five-cheese pile of mozz, parm, provolone, romano, and cheddar." - Paul Albani-Burgio

Maybe I came on an off evening or something, I have been wanting to try this place since discovering it a few weeks back. Bruschetta - very messy but flavorful. Baguette has a bit of an overcooked taste to it but was by the juices from the mozzarella and tomatoes. It’s a simple appetizer that never does me wrong. Got oils all over my hands and crumbled by the last half of the bite. I do think they are fairly priced though. For $7 you can get three of them. Basil Chicken - it is okay. I think the chicken was a little too dry for me especially with how dry the dish is as a whole. I expected more sauce than it came with. I did enjoy the artichoke in there. There is no one strong flavor and the flavors that are there are a bit minimal to me. I felt like I was trying to chase down the flavor around my plate. Definitely won’t be getting this next time. Some of the chicken pieces were also slightly pink and others were cooked all the way through, which pink chicken is automatically off putting for me. Free bread and salad - both are great for being complementary, it tastes like the Caesar dressing is house made and was pretty decent. Friendly staff but service was a bit slow for how empty the place was. Never got a refill on my water or bread, was dying of thirst near the end. Took ages to get my check and my server disappeared completely for a while. Definitely don’t come if you are on even the slightest time crunch. It wasn’t a terrible experience but definitely killed my mood for the evening a bit at the end. I also ordered a tiramisu togo but never got it and had to leave. I would definitely come back and give them another shot with different menu items, the prices were fair and the environment was nice. Sadly, no military discount if you are curious about that.

11/10 The best calzone known to man is made here. Great staff. Great pizza. Great environment. Parking was limited but depending on what time you go you’ll be fine.

If you want to go to Nona’s for dinner, come to Ramano’s Pizzeria. It’s been here 57 years and family owned. I had the triple treat which is delicious eggplant, ravioli and spaghetti with Italian sausage. I am not a fan of the pizza because of the crust. But the salad and menu is fabulous.

First visit to Romano’s Pizzeria, which was a very nice experience. This is a family restaurant located just outside of downtown Littleton, Colorado. Easy access with off-street parking made this very convenient. The restaurant was busy when we arrived at 6:30 for dinner but had no problems getting a table on a Saturday night. A nice perk was they did seat us at a table even though our party of 4 was not complete, so we didn’t have to wait later. Table service started quickly with drink orders, and upon being advised the entrees were a fairly large portion, opted not to order any starters. Another nice perk for a smaller family restaurant, with entrée, a dinner salad or soup was included. The salads were a nice portion, and all four salads were fresh and dressed, a good start to the meal. Served piping hot were our entrees of Eggplant Parm, Chicken Parm, Lasagna and Green Chili Ravioli. The only comment on the dishes was that the lasagna lacked the “gooey” cheese that some may like, but otherwise everything was great. We ended the meal with Chocolate cake and Cheesecake, which both were excellent. Overall Romano’s was a great experience, with nicely timed service and we never felt rushed, which made a great night out with friends. The food is warm and comforting like a family restaurant should be, and we would return another time. Tips for your visit: For a quieter dining experience, ask to be seated in the dining room through the kitchen (if it’s open).

Google
The pizza was excellent! It was not too busy when we arrived. Also the service was attentive to our table. I’m glad that is a locally owned family business! Always support your local restaurants!

Google
Romano’s is the kind of place that reminds you why family-run restaurants will always have a special place in the world. The moment you walk in, there’s this old-school charm, the kind that feels comforting and familiar, like you’ve been coming here for years even if it’s your first visit. The food speaks for itself. Their homemade pasta is incredible, and I know chicken parm might sound cliché, but theirs is truly top-notch, tender, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The homemade salad dressings are just as delicious, and you can’t go wrong starting with the cheesy garlic bread and marinara sauce. It’s everything you want from a meal made with care. In a world full of chain restaurants, Romano’s stands out as a reliable, family-run spot where quality and heart still matter. It’s the kind of place that easily becomes a family staple, the kids love it just as much as the adults, and every meal feels like a tradition in the making.

Date night with girlfriend. We started out wit brunetta which was excellent. It had a thick slice of fresh mozzarella and wonderful flavor. For dinner we had chicken parmesan and the basil chicken. The make their own noodles as an option and we chose the fresh noodles to go with our dinner. We finished by sharing a canolli for dessert that was excellent. The Atmosphere was comfortable and casual as you might expect from a family run restaurant. I plan on going back to try some other entrees in the future.

Google
This place was great!!! Great service, great food!! The Italian food is authentic. Had the opportunity to try the Basil Chicken, Lasagna, Chicken Parmesan, and Spaghetti. They even have gluten free pasta that looked great. We even had the cheesecake and a cannoli with chocolate drizzle. Would go again if I lived in Denver!!

Yelp
I thought the food I ordered was excellent. It was the stuffed shells with a sausage, simply delicious. The food came out fairly quickly and was nice and hot to the taste. The waitress we had was efficient, but was really not very friendly. The orders were quickly put in front of us but had no interaction with us at all. I could see if the restaurant was busy as she would be too, but this was not the case. Maybe she was having a bad day!

Yelp
Went here last night for dinner and it absolutely did not disappoint!! I used to go here a long time ago with my grandma when she was still living in Littleton. And it was a nice trip down memory lane! Food was fresh and well cooked and service was great!! So happy to see this place is still thriving! We will absolutely be back!

Yelp
Despite their small waiting room and their menus having dried up food smeared on them from the previous customers, the food was great. They have an open kitchen that keeps people entertained while waiting. You can see all the food coming out and you can pretty much decide what to eat before arriving at your table. The serving sizes of the food is worth the price. My husband usually finishes his food but couldn't finish the Stromboli because it was packed with ingredients and it was pretty big. My chicken fettuccine alfredo was a larger serving than what I would expect from Olive garden. Alfredo sauce tasted authentic and I love the texture of the noodles. As for the spaghetti dish, I really enjoyed when the waitress asked if we like thick noodles or thin noodles. They have a variety of pasta in house and it was nice to have a decision on that. Their garlic cheesy bread was amazing. I was intimidated on getting the cheese melted on the garlic bread at first but I'm glad I did. It hit the spot. For dessert we had the flourless torte. It is not dry but is very decadent. The waitress describe that it was small but it was a perfect size for the price. The richness, the softness, the texture was phenomenal. I can't wait to pick up a pizza one night and bring it home. Despite some of the bad reviews, I'm glad that we tried this place.

Yelp
I would have to agree with many of the other reviewers here that this place looks like a time capsule from the 1980s. Dark dingy decor, furniture and carpet. Our waitress was cute, bubbly and energetic and took our food order quickly. My group ordered a pizza and it took longer than was expected to arrive. The taste was rather bland and lifeless, but the salad was light and lively and was the saving grace of the entire meal. Not a bad experience but could have been better.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. If you're looking for an authentic family Italian restaurant, THIS IS IT. Amazing food, friendly staff - we live nowhere nearby, but still make the drive regularly!

Yelp
I love this local family-run restaurant -- the tasty food, the friendly and attentive staff, and the convenient location just a few blocks from downtown Littleton. I've tried quite a few items on the menu, and they all arrived piping hot and delicious. Some particularly flavorful items that stand out in my memory are the Triple Treat, the Romano's Special Pizza, Margherita Pizza, White Pizza, Baked Lasagna, Baked Cheese Ravioli, and our personal favorite, the Baked Mostaccioli. Even the plain Spaghetti with marinara hits the spot so well. I also really enjoy the cold and delicious salad that comes with the main dish. Don't get me started on the awesome warm Chocolate Chip Cookie with Ice Cream, as it's awesome, especially on a cold snowy night! I've never had an issue with parking, as there are two parking lots nearby, and even some parking right in front on Windermere St.

Yelp
Romanos has been a favorite for my family for years. We recently got take out from there for my mom's birthday and everything was delicious. My husband and I had a pizza and while it was very yummy and we had leftovers, we were both a little sad we didn't get lasagna or eggplant Parmesan, our typical go to Italian dishes.
google avatar

Marina F.

Yelp
Their Garlic Cheese bread, Tiramisu and vegetable soup was delicious. I went here tonight and ordered their Gruyère Ravioli with Sausage. The pasta was not quite done, so I sent it back and ordered their Fettuccine Alfredo, which I usually adore, but tonight it had no flavor. I was extremely disappointed. I took only a few bites and didn't finish it, and didn't take it home. I discussed this with the manager, when I went to leave, as she never came over to my table to discuss my disappointment in the Fettuccine. She didn't even offer to discount my meal or anything. She only indicated she'd talk to the chef. So, to say the least, I was very surprised at their response.

Yelp
Always a fantastic choice when you want straight ahead red sauce Italian food. The eggplant parm is simply fantastic. Great tasting mearballs and sausages. Everything is good from the stromboli to the penne in red sauce. Pretty good beer selection. The bread is sub par in my opinion. Great servers!

Yelp
Omg, the home style spaghetti was amazing. Got a recommendation from a stranger who heard me lamenting Italian from the east coast. Drove 14 miles , the spaghetti was so good (I got the thick noodles), the sauce was amazing. I am coming back asap for the mussels diavolo because nobody in CO does it like the east coast.

Yelp
I went here all the time as a child and it was so special to bring my husband here to live out my childhood memories! Food: We went a bit overboard and had a ton leftover because it's soo far away and we wanted to try it all. (1) Half Eggplant Parmesan / Half Spaghetti: Comes with the choice of meatballs, Italian sausage, or mushrooms. We got the meatballs. Two large ones. They were definitely good but in my opinion, could use more breadcrumbs to be fully "melt in your mouth". But, they were meaty and not overcooked! The eggplant was cooked perfectly and the fresh mozzarella on top made it cheesy perfection. The pasta was an unnecessary add, I would have been just as satisfied with just the eggplant parmesan. All the ingredients would have been the same as the eggplant parmesan besides the pasta. We chose penne (you can choose from a few different options) but just get the eggplant by itself next time. (2) Bruschetta antipasto: super fresh and delicious! We got the half order which was three crostinis and was perfect. (3) The entree comes with a salad or soup. We got the salad and the Italian dressing was delicious. (4) Small white pizza, add Italian sausage: super yummy. The crust is almost filo dough-y and the white pizza sauce was super flavorful and garlic-y. (5) $28 bottle of wine!! Can't beat it. I also have fairly high standards for wine and it was pretty good. (6) Fudgey chocolate cake: really good. The frosting was fudge-y and the cake was moist in most but not all places. Still really good though. Service is quick! They are used to churning people through here, but they were also respectful when we wanted to digest before a dessert. Ambience: think grandmas house in the 60s. Nothing changed lol. Perfectly cozy and homey.

Yelp
Friendly service and authentic Italian cuisine like I image a Nona would make! They have lunch special that include salad and bread. We had the spaghetti and eggplant parm- both delish! Ambiance is casual and comfy and this is for sure a locals joint! Free garlic bread if you check in on Yelp! Woot!

Yelp
This place was interesting. Definitely seems family owned. Menu was expansive, but I feel like I didn't order the right thing because my pasta felt bland. The salad was great though & the service was nice. Parking was pretty easy & the venue was spacious. I loved the stained glass on the windows

Yelp
I really tried to resolve this outside of public reviews, but after receiving a "could not deliver" notification from their email contact, I cannot hold this back. My husband and I have been coming to Romano's for years now. Tonight's experience was enough for us to never return. When ordering our entrees, we were asked if we'd like soup or salad. I ordered the soup of the day, which was an Italian sausage with vegetables. When my soup arrived, I noticed there was a maggot in it. When I notified the staff, they offered to cover the bill - which I commend. Where I disagree is their actions moving forward. They DID NOT remove the soup from the menu for the night. I am extremely disappointed with the actions of the staff tonight and absolutely will not be returning.

Yelp
I really don't like leaving bad reviews, especially for a family-run joint like this; but I'm being brutally honest here so maybe someone else who appreciates good Italian food doesn't get duped by the surprising amount of rave reviews this place has. Service: We were out of luck with other places. We called ahead here and got on the call ahead list. Cool. I called when we were a few min out to see where we were timing-wise, as we had a sleeping baby in the car (ticking time bomb--iykyk). She told me 3-5 min. Great. I was in there 3 min later. Same woman now told me we had about 20-25 to go now that I've checked in. What kind of a system is this?!? Never heard of something so absurd. Would have totally gone elsewhere. We stuck around because there were so many people waiting (usually a great sign) and because a few of them said something like, "stick around if you can, because it's that delicious." Never have I been steered so very wrong... Twilight Zone worthy! The server was fine. Ambiance: It looks and feels like a cramped mediocre restaurant out of the 80s or early 90s. But, I've been to enough hole in the wall places to know that sometimes the appearance doesn't mean the food isn't incredible. Alas, not the case here. Food: This is one of the worst meals I've eaten in my entire adult life. We were told our pizza would take 25 min and we were hungry, so I ordered a side salad as an app to accompany the bread that was offered and never came (everyone else had bread around us). What greeted me was a little more than a handful of chopped iceberg lettuce as white and flat as the small white plate it came on with 1 tomato slice, 1 olive, and a sprinkling of shredded mozzarella. Hindsight is 20/20, but this should have indicated what was to come... The eggplant parm was mostly cheese and sauce, and it was evident neither were of good quality. I dug for some eggplant at one point, and it really didn't taste like anything. The mushrooms it came with on top also didn't taste like anything. We got a side of homemade spaghetti to go with the eggplant parm. That was the least worst thing, but the "homemade" noodles didn't wow us, and the sauce (like the eggplant parm sauce) was sugary and just not good. The "Margherita" pizza we ordered w added mushrooms wasn't a Margherita pizza at all. It was a cheese pizza with diced tomatoes and mushrooms. The most confusing thing is that this place boasts "brick oven pizza." They may technically have a brick oven, but I was today years old when I learned that that doesn't mean it's brick oven pizza in style. The crust legit reminded me of Chucky Cheese crust as a kid. It was offensive in taste and I'm pretty dumbfounded at the whole thing--that's how bad it was. I'm honestly in disbelief that this place has such rave reviews. Like, to each their own, of course, but... if you are a lover of good Italian food, please consider going elsewhere.
google avatar

Elise M.

Yelp
I love the classic atmosphere here! It was decorated really cutely for the holidays too. My penne Rosa was fantastic, so creamy and great flavor. However, others in my group did not like what they ordered quite as much. The salad and soup weren't anything unusual, but I'd come back for the penne rosa!
google avatar

Justin U.

Yelp
This is our favorite Italian restaurant in the Denver area. We've been there many times to dine in and we've done countless carryouts. The two reasons I'm writing a new review is because I realized I cautiously gave them four stars after the first visit, not knowing if they could consistently deliver great Italian meals time after time. They can. The other reason I'm writing the follow-on review is because I want to warn people about ordering the large calzone. I ordered one last night and it's as big as a twin bed! Unless you haven't eaten in weeks or you're not trying to end world hunger in a single meal, order the small one! You've been warned.
google avatar

Francesca K.

Yelp
Went to Romanos for the first time last night, and I really enjoyed the 80's vibe in this restaurant. The food was meh! The service was good and their stuff was very friendly.. Maybe I'll give it another shot. Overall good service.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
This place is an old-school Mom and Pop shop that the kids took over and you will love it And the real Parmesan, which was amazing we had a group of sex, and everybody raved about their own dish. Got cheesecake for dessert. It absolutely melted in your mouth.

Kelly L.

Yelp
Eggplant parm was delicious. Not too greasy. Great red sauce. Casual atmosphere but. Clearly the locals love it. Full dining room but quick service.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
The BEST pizza and Italian restaurant in Colorado. A little bit pricey $$$ ,but I would pay up anytime!! My favorite!!!!
google avatar

W K.

Yelp
It's a shame because this was a family members favorite local restaurant but this has to be the worst "Italian" restaurant I've ever been to and right up there with when my kids begged me to go to Olive Garden and I gagged at the food. I could tell from the smell and the gross caked carpet to order simple so I ho a chicken parm. Worse chicken I've ever had, dry and no flavor same for bread I ate maybe 1/4 to be polite. Tasted meatball and spaghetti and spit it into a napkin- horrific and doesn't qualify as even meat. Service was fine but I'm so grateful I don't have to come back here not sure what I'd order I'd pretend I wasn't feeling well lol.

Bryan S.

Yelp
Food was good, great for takeout. Made mistake of eating inside. Server was frazzled, unprofessional and slow. We had to seek help from another server after a significant amount of time passed since requesting bill. This happened well after the restaurant slowed down.
google avatar

Zane W.

Yelp
I love this place. Food is incredible. Service is friendly and attentive. Makes you want to eats here twice a day... everyday! This is one of Denver's true gems. Seriously, there are two restaurants in Denver that offer the kind of service that makes you feel welcomed, appreciated, and like you've just become family, and this is the best of the two. I can't recommend Romano's more enthusiastically.

Christine C.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years my favorite Italian restaurant. The food & service have always been great. It's like an Italian restaurant back east, comfortable and welcoming. When you want to make lasting memories this is the place
google avatar

Tatum L.

Yelp
Romano's is a lovely, down-to-earth Italian restaurant with delicious food and kind servers! have enjoyed it greatly both times we've come so far! highly recommend the addictively yummy caprese salad, so fresh and the flavors are simple but just right. the ONLY dish I have had that I wouldn't recommend were the stuffed shells, they were just not as quality or fresh as the other dishes and it showed. decor is a bit outdated but who cares as long as the food is good- don't let it fool you! let the lack of pictures from two separate times we came tell the story of how good the food is, as the caprese and bruschetta were the first dishes to come, past those we forgot to get any photos every time because we dug right in!

Ron H.

Yelp
Excellent food and almost better service great place for lunch or dinner I had the Bolognese and it was really good. The salads are excellent as well.
google avatar

Debra A.

Yelp
I'm late to the Romano family but not anymore. Stellar service and incredible food. I'm gobsmacked. What a gem.
google avatar

Jill G.

Yelp
The service was great. I know it's been in business for a long time, but they seem stuck in the past a little which can be charming but the food doesn't taste that special. Maybe back in the day it did, but if you're looking for anything other than basic, this isn't the place. These days going out to dinner is very expensive, so if I want to go out for delicious Italian, I probably would not go back to Romanos. There are other Italian restaurants that have evolved a little over the years. I don't put a lot of emphasis on the atmosphere as long as the food tastes great and its clean.
google avatar

Cyndi C.

Yelp
Always delicious Pizza is out of this world. Crust is croissant like, buttery and delicious . Cold crisp salad. Great bruschetta. Fantastic manicotti, lasagna, and all of the classic red sauce joint specialties!

Yelp

Yelp
Whenever I go back home, we make it a point to grab a pizza from Romano's. Ordered the Romano's special and one of their gluten free Alfredo pastas. Pizza was great as usual, but the pasta dish was just OK. Old school littleton family establishment so drop in if your on this side of town.
google avatar

Terry C.

Yelp
If you are looking for an elevated experience - this isn't the place. If you want delicious, down home Italian you gotta get here! We tried the lasagna, ravioli and home style spaghetti. All were wonderful!
google avatar

Voodo S.

Yelp
The only thing negative I can say about this place is that the decor is a little dated. The service was great and they are friendly. The food. First (metro Denver) Italian restaurant that doesn't smoother their food in sauce. Meatballs look and taste like they are homemade. Nice and dense like your Nonna makes. The noodles were good. Homade "like" meaning they were thick like homemade but I'm thinking they were out the box. But still pretty good. If you're in Littleton and craving some Italian. This restaurant will definitely take care of you.

Ralph M.

Yelp
This restaurant has been a local staple forever. I was finally able to go. Finally made it a point. The food was comforting and nice. Seemed a tiny bit bland but still better than most other places. But, not as good as I've had elsewhere. The prices were modest and the portions were in line with pricing. The atmosphere was great. I can imagine this was what the owners envisioned years ago and it's not broken. An attempt to remodel or redecorate would be a disservice. I will be back. I'm HOURS closer now and will make it a point to return.

Gary B.

Yelp
The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the servers are helpful and friendly. I have eaten there several times for lunch and always enjoy it. I will go back.
google avatar

Renaye V.

Yelp
The best thing hands down here is the meatballs. The service was slow, it's not a place to socially distance either. They sat people right up on us. I ordered the chicken Parmesan, I thought it was bland and overcooked. We also got a pizza, I'm just not a fan of the crust. It's also bland and over cooked. They also use canned mushrooms, which is just odd. The salad and ranch was good, and like I said before the meatballs are really good, soft but not mushy. Get those with some pasta, you'll be happy.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Friendly service, traditional decor and ambiance, food was fantastic. Parking can be a problem, it took us two tries to come on a night and time when there was space

Jeri S.

Yelp
Okay this place is way old school. Food was average, we had pizza and pasta. Place was packed but I was not impressed. Service was good but I don't see us coming back.
google avatar

Sara A.

Yelp
This was an experience and not the best for sure. We went to the Jack of Lanterns display and decided to come to a local place for pizza and boy were we disappointed . Walked in about 20 minutes prior to closing so 9:02pm and got greeted by the hostess giving us an attitude and looking at the clock like we were wrong for walking in the restaurant. The pizza was OK but nothing to brag home about. Just a pizza which would have been better from Pizza Hut or dominos. We won't be coming back! The ambiance was chill considering we came in almost at closing tiem

C J.

Yelp
After the 5th return visit I am sure this is favorite Italian restaurant. (1/24/25) Everyone ordered a different meal and it could not have been prepared better. You cannot go wrong with any item. The sausage & peppers w/ rigatoni is my go to. Salads are fresh & the dressings are legit. Our waitress was sharp and fun and right on. And the place was packed. We were right in the middle with a pretty good view of everything coming out of the kitchen. "The place screams we know what we're doing " The family run vibe and the we are happy you are here flows throughout. Do yourself a favor, order a dessert. The spumoni comes in the coldest glass known to man. I wondered how it took me so long to find this place. My car has a homing for North Denver but this is real deal.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and food! I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs...the homemade noodles were very good and the meatballs the best I've ever had! The house Chianti was so good too! The inside is very clean and Italian themed. Service was awesome and friendly! Will go back again when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Mirrors on the walls The people next to us were talking to each other Excellent service. Waitress had glasses Mozzarella was cheesy Water never empty Crust flakey and buttery

Yelp
Great service and traditional Italian family dinners. Very accommodating to get us seated in a busy night. Ravioli was the best!

Yelp
They've been in business for over 50 years. Everything was fantastic-very old school Italian. The wait staff are superb in a very casual and busy environment.

Yelp
Take out of Lasagna, Italian bread, minestrone soup for dinner w/friends. It was a delicious dinner, even better leftovers, definitely recommend. To reheat, buy soup and Lasagna cold. Viola

Ramanos has been a go to Italian restaurant for many years. The Veal Park is my favorite with a very generous helping. The home made spaghetti is a special treat. The people make it a favorite go to.

Yelp
Local Mom and pop restaurant that we stopped by on a Saturday evening was greeting promptly and sat shortly after . Hailey our waitress was attentive and friendly. We started off with a cheese garlic bread . Toasted to perfection and homemade marinara was just the right about for a family of 4. Ordered the spicy mussels and they came out piping hot with penne pasta as my choice . Huge position and definitely worth it. Came with a side salad . We also ordered a few pizzas and loved them . If you are looking for great tasting food , small town feel and locally owned this is the place give it a try ! Thank me later ! Enjoy :)
