Root

"This busy, welcoming little restaurant occupies five first floor shipping containers on the old wharf. Produce from small local suppliers is used in simple yet flavour-packed small plates formed around vegetables. They have a modern, sometimes intriguing style and inventive touches." - Michelin Inspector

Shipping Container Dining: The Eco-Friendly Trend That’s Here To Stay

"Root is another Michelin-recommended Wapping Wharf restaurant – occupying five first floor shipping containers – but what makes this restaurant a little different is its focus on locally sourced vegetables, with meat and fish taking a backseat. The well-priced, seasonally influenced small plates are made for sharing and, whilst they may look simple, they are packed with flavour." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Spotlight on Bristol, England

"Vegetables take center stage at this welcoming restaurant, with meat and fish taking a back seat. It’s set in five first-floor shipping containers on the Wapping Wharf redevelopment; the large terrace is a popular spot come summer—and the young team runs the place with smiles on their faces. Seasonal produce from small local suppliers is used in simple yet flavor-packed combinations; they reckon three small plates per person is about right." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

Interesting flavours! Definitely worth a try to explore vegetarian dishes with hints of familiar tastes. The house bread is a 10/10, airy and chewy bread with a crispy salty crust. The kohlrabi dish was delightfully fresh and my favourite would be the grilled leek dish, though I was not the biggest fan of the smoky flavour since it tasted quite strong. The pork chops could be a little more tender, but it paired wonderfully with the refreshing tomatoes on the plate. We ordered a pavlova to share for dessert and it was a lovely light and sweet treat to end the meal.

So so good! I love that the vegetarian/vegan options are more plentiful than the meat & fish! The food was absolutely delicious and the location+atmosphere was just perfect for a sunny evening in Bristol. Will hopefully be back again 💜

Absolutely amazing restaurant!! We couldn’t pick where to go as there are so many to choose from but this one was upstairs and had a great vibe and I can say that the service and food was even better! If it’s on the menu since they change it a lot, you MUST order the bread and the feta! I can honestly say it’s the best bread I have ever had in my life!

What an amazing place! Their rosemary bread is addictive and the smoked beetroot was possibly the best veggie dish I have ever eaten. Everything was prepared with care and great attention. Great spot if around or visiting Bristol.

What a gorgeous little restaurant they have in this hidden gem of an area on Museum Street. Really feels like stumbling into Narnia. Had the tartare, the beans and the carpaccio and was delighted by every dish. A great pairing of orange wine and a fantastic chocolate orange ganache dessert made this the perfect end to my brief stay in Bristol. I was skeptical at first when they served the tartare with chips but let me tell you, those chips were heavenly. Light as a cloud, yet crisp as a wafer, a nice counterbalance to the intense tartare. The carpaccio had a lovely surprise kick of heat to it, which paired nicely with the warmth of the beans (which admittedly was a separate dish). Dessert menu is not to be missed either. Though I managed to finish it before I remembered photographing it, the ganache looks (and tastes) a winner. And a warm greeting to the attentive hostess who served me. Thank you for your thoughtful comments and recommendations!

Google
Wonderful food. I have never been into vegetarian options, but this was extremely amazing experience and will go back again. A bit pricy and small portions but tasty and great opportunities to try new foods and different plates, menus is daily based, we tried wiped feta cheese, raddish, monkfish, crispy potatoes.

Went to Root on the Wapping Wharf, Bristol for our anniversary dinner. The food here is mainly veg related but the flavours and tastes are to die for! Loved it.

Love the veg forward concept and seasonal menu. Highlights for us were the carrots, lasagne and trout. Cozy dining room - for unassuming before you actually get up the stairs. The rhubarb limoncello sorbet is also delicious - definitely an interesting combo of flavours.

Yelp
Root was an amazing experience! Great location, fabulous service and incredible food!! Three of us dined there, one vegetarian, one gluten free and one eat anything and we were all beyond happy with what we ordered. Every bite better than the next. We loved it so much we plan to return again in a few days.
