🌟🌟🌟🌟 Absolutely outstanding! I just had the most amazing BLT with coconut bacon at ROOT on Broadway in Newport — pure amazeballs. They never disappoint! The flavors were incredible, the coconut bacon was a total game-changer, and the vibe is always spot-on. I also grabbed some chocolate chip cookies for dessert and they were heavenly. If you’re in Newport and craving something delicious, creative, and plant-based, ROOT is the spot. Can’t wait to go back!

Awesome vegan place for lunch, brunch or breakfast. We had the Greek bowl and Arriba bowls. Staff is friendly and helpful with their recommendations and favorite picks. They happily obliged to customization requests on the standard bowls. Also tried their Orange Ya Glad(added ginger) and Green Machine Juices which were both very refreshing. The Ciao Bella sandwich was nice but slightly low on seasoning per our taste.

Absolutely delicious!! Stopped here from out of town for a quick vegan meal and wow it blew me away. I got the BLT and added avocado, the glow bowl, and the pulled jackfruit sandwich with a smoothie. Everything was made quickly, the flavors were so vibrant and unique - 10/10 hope to be back soon!

My mom, sister, and I came all the way from CT today so my sister could show us this place. It exceeded my expectations even beyond the amazing things I’d heard. Food was amazing, vegan goodies in our sandwiches and salads were made in house, not processed. Such a treat. Everything was delicious, the service was beyond - we had a lovely conversation with the owner, who clearly runs the establishment with only the highest of vibes!!! Can’t wait to go back.

Great little place with a fabulous plant-based menu! We got the East Bowl, Cobb salad w/jackfruit and the Seaside smoothie and each was delicious. The coconut bacon was particularly addicting. The folks working were very friendly and welcoming and added to the overall experience.

The food was absolutely amazing—I’ll never forget that incredible toast! This place has a hard closing time: around 4:45 they start mopping and sweeping, and you’ll need to take your food to go. Which I get, just something to keep in mind when planning your visit. The food is totally worth every penny spent here.

I was very happy to find a plant based food place right in the center of Newport. We got glow, arriba and eastern bowls, chickpea sandwich and couple of toasts. Not cheap, but food was good (except 2 out of 3 dressings, too acidic to my taste). Will definitely come back when I'm again in Newport. Thank you! Keep it up!

Root is a nice vegan spot in Newport with a simple, comfortable setup and a straightforward menu. Nothing fancy, but it feels welcoming and easy to order from. I had the BBQ jackfruit sandwich, and it was really good. The flavor was smoky and slightly sweet, and the texture worked surprisingly well. My partner tried the Arriva grain bowl, which was fresh and layered with flavor without being heavy. Both dishes tasted well thought out and clearly made with care. The menu has a good mix of bowls, sandwiches, smoothies, and baked items, so it's easy to find something whether you're fully plant-based or just looking for a healthier option. Prices seemed reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Service was friendly, and things came out at a steady pace. Overall, Root feels like a solid place to go for a good vegan meal in town. Root was one of my husband's finds and must-try spots during our first trip to Newport. We grabbed a late lunch at Root on a Wednesday. I had an East Bowl and a Recess drink. Very good. I felt satiated at the end of the meal.

This place sticks true to their ~roots~ in that everything is super fresh! I got their matcha pineapple sunrise bowl and after talking with the nice staff I learned everything is fresh fruit, no sorbet ingredients used to create the bases like at other places. I told her how I was craving pineapple and she ended up adding some as a topping for me!!! I've also had their grain bowls before as well as their avocado toast and it's unreal. Price is what you would expect, $11-20 per meal item after tip. The portions are huge and everything is fresh so you get what you're paying for. Location is along the classic Broadway strip, lots of stores to jump around. Entrance is handicap accessible, leads you straight to the order counter where there's menus with large print and the staff is helpful. There are a variety of coffee drinks, teas (including matcha) and smoothies available. There's ample seating, including window seating to enjoy people watching. Could be a good place to bring your laptop and get some work done. Taylor swift heavy playlist which I'm a fan of.

The owner looks nice but she's actually rude other then the lady being rude the co workers are nice everything there is basically there not allowed to cook there it's basically them just putting cold food together

Came here for a quick breakfast meal. Restaurant is very small but has a decent amount of seating. It's run by what looks like a family that was very friendly and warm. We got the avocado and pesto toast. The avocado toast was great, very fresh spread and well flavored on a multigrain bread. The pesto toast was good too, but the pesto was a bit too tangy I think.

Stopped by Root for breakfast. We got breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Everything was great. We ate inside the restaurant, which is very small, but nice. Root is a great place to stop by for a quick meal and coffee! The servers were very nice too.

This place was fantastic! Paul, co-owner, was incredibly and helpful. I was feeling adventurous and ordered the BBQ Jackfruit sandwich; wow, very delicious! My kids loved their respective grain bowls, and my wife loved her Banana Almond Joy toast. With my daughter entering her freshman year at Salve, this spot will be frequented in the years to come!

I have never tried a plant based restaurant before. Root surprised me. It was really really good! I got the avocado sprout toast, seaside drink and the Cobb salad. It's was all excellent. I high recommend Root.

The best vegan food cafe in Newport, RI. Started off my day with the Frozen Cocoa: Blended bananas, avocado, almond milk, dates, maple syrup, cocoa, topped with strawberries, banana, cocoa nibs, coconut and my own idea, a shot of almond butter for extra protein. Omg, yummers! Delicious!

Whoop whoop! Hooray for healthy, plant-based eateries! My sister and I stopped by Root twice during our recent visit to Newport. The first time around I grabbed a Green With Envy smoothie, which includes mango, avocado, orange, lime, mint, and spinach. Super refreshing and delicious. Plus, just the right amount of sweetness. I also ordered the Chickpea Salad Sandwich. This guy contains house chickpea salad, bibb lettuce, tomato, and toasted multigrain. Not my favorite--the chickpea salad was a bit sweet which threw me off--but I inhaled it regardless. The next morning I chose the Frozen Cocoa Bowl. We're talking blended banana, avocado, almond milk, date, maple syrup, cocoa, topped with strawberry, banana, cacao nibs, and coconut. Yummm! I would definitely order the green smoothie and cocoa bowl again, and would be happy to try all of their other tasty-sounding menu items... there's a wide variety! Service was good, prices are as expected, and there is some seating outside, which we took advantage of both times.

Glow bowl was fantastic. My favorite part was the avocado herb dressing. It was very uniquely smooth and satisfying. The ingredients all tasted fresh. You get a choice of quinoa or brown rice. I do wish there was a little bit more grains, as I wasn't quite full afterwards. Acai bowl was even better! It was extremely smooth, and not too sweet. Really really well done. Orange Ya Glad: These juices are also fantastic. I could chug one in seconds, they're so good. Really flavorful. In summary, I'm very satisfied with the freshness of their ingredients and with their prices. The prices are quite fair compared to other breakfast/brunch places. I really love the concept of this cafe, and the interior is well decorated too! The staff are incredibly friendly. Great experience. Would definitely come back.

Everything is so fresh and delicious. Kid and adult approved. Smoothies are so good. Hard to decide what to eat! Is it weird to go for breakfast lunch and dinner !?

Food: portion size to price ratio was excellent. I chose to get the matcha pineapple smoothie bowl. It was extremely refreshing! 10/10 Service/ambiance: was kind of disappointing, to be honest. I arrived at 4:20 on Friday and was the only customer at the moment. I didn't receive any type of welcoming environment, felt more of a bother to be there. There were two ladies in there, the taller one at the counter told me they were only allowing takeout, which kind of threw me off. The shorter one was wiping down the tables, she was the only one to say hello while smiling (when she came from the back to wipe the tables). The taller one finally acknowledged me, this was only after I stood in-front of the cash register after staring at their wall menu, so that I didn't feel like a bother. Once my order was placed I sat close to the door until the shorter woman brought me my order and handed it to me while telling me to have a good day. Overall, walking in to order felt extremely awkward and uncomfortable but the bowl was good. 5/10. Given that so many of the other reviews on here say they were welcoming and friendly, it took me by surprise that MY experience wasn't the same due to the tone. Not here to bash the employees or the business, just sharing MY perspective of the overall interaction and how it felt to ME. Hence, the 3 star review.

Excellent food! We had the Awakening smoothie, the breakfast sandwich, and the root cobb salad. All were 10/10 and there was plenty of seating.

This shop has convinced me that the acai bowl is a must have. My boyfriend and I stopped in before our mansion tour in Newport RI. What a cute little spot. The inside is small and definitely decorated like an instagram spot. I got the acai bowl. The bowl was perfectly blended into a smooth thick consistency. Very important for the spoon-ability of the dish. The bowl had great banana flavor. The toppings added great texture to the dish. It was a light and refreshing breakfast on a very hot summer day. My bf had the coconut BLT. This was an interesting one. The flavors surprisingly worked. Is it really a BLT...? No not really, but an interesting sandwich. I think if they could, the coconut should be bigger pieces instead of the bits. Very hard to eat. Great cute spot to hang out with friends and eat great vegan things :)

The Quick: Loving this spot for healthy and delicious options. I love that the menu has plenty of sweet options and plenty of savory. Acai bowls were incredible, and then there's the avocado toast which we were so impressed with. It was very reasonably priced for what they give you and such an easy meal. Will be back for more avocado goodness soon!!

Lunch today at Root in Newport, Rhode Island was awesome. It's a small casual place with really friendly service and delicious food. I had the Frozen Cocoa Bowl (blended banana, avocado, almond milk, date, maple syrup, cocoa, topped with strawberry, banana, cacao nibs, coconut). It was absolutely delicious! My sweetie had the AÇAI Bowl (house acai blend topped with strawberry, blueberry, granola, chia, cacao nibs). He said it was good. I would definitely recommend!

Super tasty veggie centric lunch. Perfect for a light lunch on a Saturday exploring the city. We split an avocado toast and each got a smoothie. Delicious and surprisingly not crowded given the surrounding area.

We went here several times while staying in Newport. We had their East bowl - which was delicious and very flavourful. I really appreciated the diversity of non-conventional ingredients they included in their bowls. The staff were very welcoming and friendly! And it has a good flow of people. We also had a smoothie and açai bowl. While they were good and refreshing, the granola on the açai bowl lacked some flavour. But would still recommend both.

I've always been a person who loves vegetables, but as I've gotten older, I've wanted them more and more frequently. I'm definitely not scared of kale, and I love the opportunity to substitute beans and rice or other legumes like lentils instead of meat options. Because of this, we were motivated to find some vegetarian/vegan options and just happened upon Root. When we arrived, we were surprised at how many people were there. Seating is limited, but the place was packed. We sat awhile and looked at the menu and then decided to both get grain bowls and a fresh juice. I ordered the Asian bowl with brown rice and hubby ordered the Greek bowl with brown rice as well and for our fresh juice we ordered the second on the menu. When the food arrived, it was plated beautifully and it was packed with flavorful items. The hummus on hubby's bowl was delicious as well as the vegan yogurt sauce. My bowl had edamame and ginger which was awesome but the best part was a giant pile of kimchi which I really enjoyed. The juice was good as well, similar to what I make at home. Prices are high but what you get is a good product, well-plated, from friendly people, and high-quality ingredients. Downsides are lack of parking on the street, lack of seating indoors, and no restroom so you're just going to have to hold it if you need to go. The owner is military-friendly, as his daughter is in the Navy and they offer a military discount for active duty families which is awesome. We will definitely be returning and can't wait to try more off of their vegan and vegetarian menu.

The acai bowl looked even more beautiful in person than it did on the menu. Yummy smoothies to start the day and they kept us going for hours.

Avo Toast is one of the best I ever had! This place is small but mighty! fresh juices, smoothies, bowls, salads breakfast bowls and more. Breakfast or lunch! A few outdoor tables. Excellent chill laid back vibe!

Went here after a spin class for an açaí bowl. It was delicious with a bunch of ingredients!! It had cocoa nibs, lots of strawberries and blueberries, and granola. I have no complains just one adjustment.. it was a little too watery or melted, I prefer it a little stiffer other than that this place was great. Great staff too!!

Visited today with my sister and absolutely loved it. Well-priced, large menu, and the food was super filling despite only offering vegan options. The people working were so incredibly nice too.. they kept thanking us for visiting and helped us choose what to get. It also helps that the inside of the restaurant was adorable. Highly recommend if you're in Newport!

Root is quickly becoming my favorite lunch spot in Newport! It's a super cute and charming vegan / vegetarian cafe located on Broadway, and they just opened less than a month ago. But don't underestimate these new kids on the block! They've already been featured on the front page of the Newport Daily News, and have an extensive menu with tons of creative and tasty options that are super healthy as well! My go-to is the Glow Bowl, a salad and grain bowl that piles loads of fresh produce on top of your choice of brown rice or quinoa and tender olive oil-massaged kale. The seasonal roasted sweet potatoes add a savory element, alongside shredded carrots and beets, white beans, cabbage, and sweet golden raisins. However, the best part is the homemade avocado herb dressing - imagine the gorgeous lovechild of guacamole and pesto, and that's what it tastes like. Oh my god, I need the recipe NOW! I also tried the Almond Joy Toast, with thick cut, high quality whole grain bread, creamy peanut butter, banana, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, and a drizzle of honey. It's a great way to satisfy a sweet tooth without veering too far off of your diet! Service is super friendly and efficient. The owners, Paul and Kate, take a whole lot of pride in what they're doing, and are awesome people. It may be sort of pricy compared to some of the other breakfast / lunch options in the area, but trust me, the quality of Root's menu is well worth it!

We were looking for a good spot to grab something healthy for breakfast. This is the place! Everything is made fresh. Had two smoothies, an açaí bowl, an "egg" sandwich, the banana almond joy toast, and a coffees. Everything was tasty and fresh. Awesome. The owners were there and were very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back!

Great bowls. My fav is the Glow Bowl: white beans, shredded beets, shredded carrots, sweet potato, red cabbage, golden raisins and hemp hearts with brown rice & avocado herb dressing. They add curly kale to the bottom of the bowl & put rice or quinoa on top. Delicious, fresh & filling. Good balance of all ingredients. Consistently yummy. They also serve an awesome maple walnut blondie. Root is in my rotation for lunch every week!

Chose to go to Root instead of a different juice place because the juice was $13 (what!) at the other place, but a 20 ounce at Root was $10.25 instead. Great choice, really liked this place. The people working were very nice and helpful, and the juices were great (so was the smoothie). After a little while of sitting and sipping, we decided to get some Just Egg sandwiches. Very good, went well with the English muffin, loaded with cheese, and the coconut bacon was excellent, too. 10/10, would be here weekly if I lived in Newport. Or, I guess anywhere in Rhode Island.

Came here yesterday with my large family group. The owner was welcoming and extremely accommodating! Most of the table ordered bowls. Everyone raved about them! I had the coconut 'BLT.' So delicious!! Will be eating here again on our next visit to Newport!

Newport it's one of my favorite towns in Rhode Island and walking through the streets and restaurants always makes me hungry. If you don't have much time to spare on a lunch, Roots it's the place. My favorite item was the natural drinks. See you there.

Wonderful food & atmosphere. Very cozy & welcoming. The avocado was amazing & the BBQ jackfruit (not pictured). I also had the Orange Ya Glad juice which was so refreshing & tasted amazing. It didn't taste "healthy" by any means if you worried about that. We are coming here again tomorrow before we head back home from our trip!

After having spent a few days in Newport and having the worst restaurant meals that were also crazy expensive, finding Root was the best Yelp find for me in a while. The acai bowls and veggie bowls were delicious. Same with the fresh juice. Not too expensive, healthy, fresh and better than any of the meals we had on the tourist wharf.

Delicious and healthy! A great lunch that won't weigh you down while exploring Newport :) The prices are actually a bit cheaper than on the Yelp menu! Bowls were $12, not $15.

It just doesn't get any better than Root, and there are a lot of reasons why, but primarily, of course, it's the food, which rivals the best vegan anywhere - even NYC and L.A. And truth is, even if you're not vegan - my husband isn't - we enjoyed the freshest, tastiest sandwiches and salads imaginable. The chickpea salad is bursting with flavor; the smoothies were healthful and delicious. Paul, the founder and owner, is a charming, caring guy, and his dishes reflect that. Come in for something small and then end up eating...everything. One of the best aspects of our visit to Newport.

The options for vegans is sooo tasty! Th food is fresh and the price is a LITTLE pricey but you get what you pay for!!! The owner was also making his customers feel appreciated. Mos def return trip.

This plant based Restraunt right on Broadway with amazing coffee and a wide variety of options for a breakfast is a must try. First off, ownership is so warm and welcoming! They thanked everyone authentically for coming in and making an order on the 5th of July. Their passion and drive to serve the community with their kindness is so clear and heartfelt. The smoothies are terrific and well priced and feel free to add to them with their options. I went with the seaside with some pea protein and my fiancée went with the awakening. Delicious and filling. The best part was that the cold brew coffee was some of the best coffee I've ever had. I'd go there every morning if we spend any more time there in the future. I will also try the oatmeal, a few people in front of us ordered that and it looked amazing. Thank you for the experience and quality service! So good we went 3 times in 24 hours! I'm not even vegan! The options are really delicious, filling, and clean. We're from NYC so we can be picky about food but Root didn't disappoint. The owners and staff were really nice and we loved going back to try something new from the menu each time. We'll miss this for sure. Can't wait to go back next season!

Ordered a beautiful Bowl and coffee ( lavender!!) and my husband had a smoothie and all were delicious! The small restaurant is happy and colorful and the staff are efficient and kind! We will be back!

By far my favorite lil place in all of Newport. Everything I ordered was so fresh and delicious. It was perfect for the hot summer weather. I went back twice the same day! Wish I could import this place back to Long Island with me. What to order: Arriba Arriba bowl Green with envy smoothie Acai bowl (duh) And the surprise favorite; play your cards right coffee! The owner and family running this place are really nice as well. Very impressed! Would return to Newport just for this place.

Pleasantly surprised. Fast. fresh and delicious! Staff was so lovely, and inside is adorable. A fee high top seats and a table or two inside. It was very busy with takeout orders. perfect location I ordered the arriba arriba! bowl and it was better then i expected. the pickled jalapeños were the absolute best part. I'm excited to go back and try more!

We did the cliff walk early in the day and found this place in the afternoon. We ordered the Avocado Toast (pictured) and the Chai latte iced tea. The gentleman who took our order was really nice and we asked for a cup of ice water (being tired from the walk) and he brought us an extra just to be nice! It is always nice to see good service - I feel like they did a great job making us feel welcome and the avocado toast was delicious! Certainly hit the spot! I would highly suggest this restaurant to people in the area!

We were here visiting on vacation for 2 days. We ended up loving this place so much we came back twice! The owners are delightful, so friendly! The food is so good! In fact, I liked the African peanut soup so much I tried to recreate it at home. Definitely check this place out!

Was looking for a healthy breakfast spot and this place had a delicious "breakfast egg sandwich" the coconut bacon and faux eggs were hard To tel a difference from the real thing. But did spend 40 bucks on a coffee, two sandwiches and a green juice which is absolutely insane to me! Not the restaurants fault entirely but it would be nice to see a healthier restaurant not break someone's wallet.

Can I give this place 10 stars??? Good thing this place is over an hour from me, otherwise my whole paycheck would be directly funneled into eating here. HIGHLY recommend!

Nice place, friendly staff. I had the Awakening smoothie which was delicious. Family had avocado toast and the frozen Cocoa bowl. The smoothie was lovely. The bowl was a blended banana bowl and the bananas weren't blended enough - 2 huge chunks. It was just okay. Coffee was not warm enough. But having said that I liked Root. Had to go back the next day to get the awakening smoothie again

This is such a cute little place to stop by and nourish yourself after a lovely walk by the beach. Perfect place to get amazing and healthy food with fresh ingredients. Their menu is so original and diverse! Fun place to explore.
