Rooted - Review - Flatiron - New York - The Infatuation

"At this fast-casual spot in Flatiron, menu items are referred to as “bounty,” and diets like Whole30 and Keto are mentioned on the website—they also don’t let seed oils anywhere near their kitchen. You can load a bowl with your choice of starch, veggies, proteins/legumes, and a few add-ons. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

Nice to have another healthy fast casual spot to pick up lunch or dinner. Good vegetarian& vegan options. Would LOVE to see them ass tofu to the mix! simple but healthy. everyone is gluten free! only two stools avail for seating so best for delivery/pickup!

SO GOOD! Sometimes when it’s all roasted the spices on each item taste the same but each item has its own flavor profile. Not oily, but not dry. Amazing taste, seriously. Little steep for the protein portion but will gladly pay because it’s that good. Genuinely something you can feel good about eating.

I was super excited when Rooted was about to open. I love the concept. I went there right on opening day. It was pricey but everything was really good and served really well. I would add that I think some of their stuff is overly salted. They try to makeup for only using a few ingredients, but a bomb of sodium also isn’t very good for you. However, my bigger issue with them now is that they have skimped out on how much they serve yet prices are still the same. To get the amount of chicken I got on my first time I now need to get double protein and the last time I got Rooted there was 0 potato in the container. It seemed to be one baby potato was sliced. You can compare the pictures of when I went on opening day vs. when I got Rooted this week. The potatoes used to be filled to the brim, now they are just trying to save money Edit on March 21 st: I’ve gone back two times this week and have had a good experience both times. One was in person another through a delivery app. Food not overly salty and portions are good!

I’m super into this place. My office is on the block and I work closely with a trainer toward fitness goals. Rooted has been a godsend. Reliable portions, healthy EVERYTHING. I love the ability to order anything without needing to decode an ingredients list. No seed oils is huge. Sometimes it’s a bit busy, but I’ll wait a few extra minutes to support a busy small business in a city choked with corporate chains. I’ve seen a few complaints about about pricing and portion and food being undercooked - that has never been my experience. The reality of the world is that healthy food costs more. If you want overcooked, processed foods for less - you don’t need to look far on 23rd. I’m a big fan.

I love the concept but unfortunately the execution just wasn’t there for me. Everything seemed to be an upsell to the point where I paid $30 for a few compartments of food. The food was oily and not very flavorful. Springbone has the same ingredient quality and is a much better bang for your buck, especially if you’re not vegan/vegetarian.

My favorite new healthy restaurant in New York! The food is fresh, organic, and filling. The peppercorn chicken, sweet potatoes, and the curried chickpeas are my current favorite options — but it’s the sauces that take the meals to the next level.

Google
Nice healthy meal for lunch, but it's going to run you $20 if you want protein. I probably won't be back on my own dime, but not bad if someone else is paying! They only have space for TWO people to sit inside -- this location is meant as a grab and go.

We had Rooted cater our lunch this week, and it was absolutely perfect! The food was not only delicious but also healthy, which made it a big hit with everyone. The "lunch" boxes were such a cute touch and added a special flair to the experience. Everyone was extremely happy with the meal, and we couldn't have asked for a better catering option. Personally, the potatoes and peppercorn chicken were my favorite! Highly recommend! 10/10.

Yelp
This place seriously is so good. At first, I just assumed this was just another new spot in NYC but I was so pleasantly surprised. I love the concept of Rooted and how transparent they are with their food. Often time as a picky eater, I don't know what I'm consuming and even when I do, I feel like I have to make accommodations for less salty, oil, no butter, and the list goes on. The portions are definitely decent - I went with the 4 bounty box and was happy with it, but wouldn't mind sizing up to a 5 bounty box next time. Now to the food 1. Simply Chicken was juicy and packed with flavor - I think it's probably the garlic infused olive oil 2. The spaghetti squash (absolute favorite) - love the texture and the taste to it with the sauce, I can't recommend this enough 3. Gigante beans had good texture and felt satisfying to eat 4. Carrots were decent I can't wait to try more variations within the box options, I will be back!

Yelp
Visited Rooted for the first time today. It was just okay for me. You have to order at a machine, which is fine, but I got several error messages which was a bit frustrating. Also, there is no way to not order a protein, which is weird, because several of the photos here on yelp and on their website don't show a protein. So why is that a requirement to order? I had a box of 5 items which was smaller than I expected, especially for the price. Additionally, I didn't get the sauce I ordered, which I didn't notice until I got back to my desk and opened the box. The price of this small box was $20+ which to me is a lot considering the vegetables were not organic. I'm happy Rooted doesn't use seed oils but for the price I think Rooted should also be organic. I'm not sure I'll return.

Yelp
This was a solid meal. Love how healthy everything is and how clean the ingredients are. The peppercorn chicken was a bit dry, I would probably not get it again. The pesto was a bit too oily for my liking. Everything tasted great and I didn't feel gross after eating it! The only thing that would keep me from going back is knowing that I could make all of this at home for a fraction of the price. My box came out to just under $22, I thought I was going to be able to get two meals out of it but the portions were not very big. I appreciate what the owner is trying to do by brining good clean food to the fast casual space, I just wish it was a bit more affordable!

Yelp
Extremely bland, overpriced for three small items and not at all filling. Also no real protein options for vegetarians. I really don't get the hype.

Yelp
The food here was delicious! Subtracted a star only because most items were sold out when we went at about 2 o'clock on a weekday. But everything was fresh and the worker was so friendly. A healthy and clean quick grab and go lunch

Yelp
My favorite go to healthy meal. Love how healthy and fresh the food tastes. Significantly better than all the other quick service options in New York!! Can't wait for more locations to open

Yelp
Lots of food options in the plaza but I choose to go healthy today and stumbled upon Rooted. The owner who is very kind actually greeted me. She suggested the Ra Ta Ta Boat for my first dish. It was delicious especially the grilled chicken. Everything is fresh and made in front of you. I'm full and happy. This plaza has ample seating for big groups, a basketball hoop, pool table, and more. I found myself working here for a bit too. Come check it out!

Yelp
I normally don't write reviews for pick up food restaurants, but all I have to say is WOW! The people who work there are all so friendly and give great recommendations. The food is absolutely delicious! From all of fresh and flavorful sides or the incredibly sauces. YUM. I have a cafeteria at my office, but I will always be tempted to run out and pick up Rooted. Great addition to the area, hope the prices doesn't jump at all though.

Yelp
A great place to stop when you need a healthy and filling meal. Love the no BS ingredients too! The staff was so friendly and helpful as well. I will definitely be back!
