Late-Night Pizza Restaurant Roppolo’s Is Coming to West Campus - Eater Austin

"Roppolo’s Pizza, the go-to Sixth Street late-night pizzeria, is opening a new restaurant in the West Campus area. It took over Drag sandwich shop Fat Sal’s on 2604 Guadalupe Street, opening as of yesterday, Wednesday, August 21, just in time for the start of the University of Texas Austin fall semester. New for this location of Roppolo’s will be Italian burgers and chicken wings. The former is on a recipe from pizzeria founder/president/CEO Marc Roppolo’s mother Rosalie. She used to serve the burgers — which he described as thin oversized patties with Italian seasoning on regular-sized buns — and pasta at his grandfather’s grocery store in Waco and on the Baylor campus. The house-made chicken wings will range from mild to hot. Otherwise, the restaurant will feature a similar menu of a variety of pizzas by the pie or slice, calzones, rolls, pastas (with a new alfredo option), and salads. For drinks, there’s beer and wine. A walk-up window will debut sometime after the restaurant’s opening. The restaurant will be revamped with new paint and televisions. Roppolo plans on adding four 50-inch television screens, catering to UT students who want to watch sports. Roppolo had always wanted to open a campus-area restaurant when he started in 1989. However, it was “very expensive,” and he opted instead to open on Spicewood Springs Road (which no longer exists) and “by sheer accident” lucked into the Sixth Street brick-and-mortar. He always had his eye on the area when the Fat Sal’s building became available. Currently, Roppolo’s has two Sixth Street restaurants and one food truck on Red River. It shuttered its Warehouse District downtown food truck in early 2019 because the address is being turned into a hotel. Fat Sal’s closed the Austin restaurant, which had been its only non-Los Angeles location, in early 2019." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
Pizza was okay. My friend placed a pick up order so I don’t know how much it was. We were craving pizza, it was on the way. Plus apparently people rave about Roppolo’s, so why not give it a chance? Can’t go wrong with pizza. We get there it’s ready for pick up and fresh. Personally my only issue is that the tomatoes sauce was off and the dough itself kinda tasted like cardboard. Overall I’m neutral.

Google
This is our 2nd time eating here and Roppolo's was just as fabulous and delicious as the first time. Last time, we ordered by the slice which are huge slices that range from $4.50-$5.50...we ordered the special this time which was a 16" margherita pizza for $9.99.. it was so fresh and we remembered why we came back. They have daily lunch specials, and a Happy Hour Mon-Fri 3-5pm, which is a 14" slice and domestic beer for only $3. I noticed there are signs promoting that they now have "Halal Pizza Options" as well. They take cash, credit and debit.

Google
A restaurant that reminds me of the college atmosphere and vibe. Pizza sizes are very large and tasty. They have several combos under $6 which is a great value. Pizzas are reheated in less than 3 minutes. Limited parking in the back of the restaurant.

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬. The best thing I can say about this place is that it scratches the itch. If you’re craving good, hot, solid pizza- this is the spot. I went late - around closing time and was given a complimentary Jalapeño Roll. It was hot and welcome when I was only expecting a delicious slice of pizza. So, not only was the service excellent, the food was great to back it up. The size of the slice I got was huge - about the size of 2 or 3 regular sized pizzas from Dominoes or Papa John’s. I appreciated this place and I hope you guys will as well.

Google
This place is awesome. Their $10 16’ pepperoni is absolutely amazing. Being a college student, I get it at least once a week and it’s enough for multiple meals. Tasty pizza for a great price.

Google
Roppolo's on 6th Street has the best pizza in Austin. We drive an hour and a half to order the 20" pies. The atmosphere is chill and the staff is so friendly!

I have lived in Texas for almost 30 years and havent found a really good place for good pizza. I was going to the tattoo/piercing shop next door. Everytime I say that place smells so good, but I am always hesitant because I’ve been let down so many times at other pizzeria’s. This day I was going to give them a try and I am so glad I did. Everything about this pizza was spot on, from crust to the flavor of the sauce just awesome! Not to mention the huge slice you get for just a few bucks! Good service and clean shop! I can’t wait to go back next time I am in ATX!

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem if you're on West Campus and craving pizza! The staff is super friendly, the service is lightning-fast, and everything they make is loaded with fresh, quality ingredients. Whether you're just grabbing a couple of slices between classes or treating yourself to a full pie, their prices are really fair for the menu options. The vibe here is unbeatable--grab a seat on the patio facing Guadalupe Street, and you've got a front-row view of some prime people-watching. It's a fun, casual spot that's perfect for chilling with friends, fueling up on the go, or just soaking up the energy of the area. If you're a pizza lover (or just love good food in general), this is a must-try!

Yelp
Godfather and pepperoni slices. Dough is crispy on outside, chewy within. HUGE slices. Not overly greasy. All the meat on the slices were moist and yummy! For a slice and drink, around $10. Can't beat it!!

Yelp
pizza fills the craving but definitely on the expensive side, $5 per slice. one slice definitely fills me up but $5 seems expensive for a slice of pizza. i tried their buffalo chicken pizza and it was good and filling. convenient that it's near campus but can get dangerous at night due to suspicious guad activity. service is friend and helps shoo away the homeless people.

Yelp
I had never tried Roppolo's before so I was excited for the opportunity to taste these massive pies. I decided to get the slice of the day which had a lot of stuff. Mushrooms, cheese, spinach, tomatoes, etc. This large slice was a great portion. I'll definitely be back to try more! ‍

Yelp
Great selection of pizzas (whole or slices) and other Italian specialties. Conveniently located on The Drag, with free parking. Opens at 11:00 am.
google avatar

Rodney A.

Yelp
Fair priced combos. Good food. Good prices. Good service. Nice and cool temp inside with good music playin. It definitely hit the spot. I appreciate spots like this around campus. Student friendly atmosphere. Even had a decent cinnamon roll for a dessert option.

Yelp
Visiting Austin and just looking for something simple and local while we took a look around campus. Parking is awful. They have a few spots behind the building, but their food truck or can made it difficult to get in with my pickup. Found a place on edge or campus and walked over. Family was stressed by then so we ordered by the slice out of the display. Staff was friendly, but it was loud and hard to hear them. They had a variety of options and we all found something to like. I wasn't planning on slices as they are made ahead and reheated, but that was our choice. The pizza was good and the slices were huge. One easily filled the adults in our group and teenagers ate a little more than half. Doubtful we are back in Austin anytime soon, but would try again and order whole pizzas.
google avatar

Ava S.

Yelp
Loved the food and owner!! Offers a place to sit outside when weather is good, price is good at lunch for the portions! Would suggest if you are in the area!
google avatar

Solla B.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and online ordering was simple! I was very adamant to ordering from my usual Pizza Hut but Roppolo's has knocked my socks off! I got the Margherita pizza with chicken added and it was so delicious! My partner got the supreme pizza and he said it was delicious! Definitely will be ordering again.
google avatar

Tressa M.

Yelp
Finally took my girlfriend here for a slice of giant pizza and she absolutely loved it! Fast service and cool little hole in the wall spot. Not the cleanest pizza joint in town, but after a night out or long day in t hits the spot!
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
Roppolo's gets the reputation for being drunk food, but when you get it fresh from this location it really is the quintessential average pizza, and I mean that in the best possible way. If you sign up for their rewards program through the Fivestars app, you can occasionally earn free pizza!
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
We ordered a calzone for here. No silverware, just packets of melted plastic silverware. Impossible to cut calzone. When we tore it open with the plastic knife, a pool of watery marinara spilled out and soaked the bottom of the box. (Calzones do not have sauce inside. Wtf is going on here) Cashier also wrote down our birthdates, addressed and license numbers. Said it was bc we used a credit card. Could not explain what would be done with that information or when it would be shredded. Ridiculous.
google avatar

Joshua N.

Yelp
Tried this place randomly on Uber eats and was quite surprised and satisfied! The giant calzone is the real deal - it's enormous and worth every penny. Definitely enough food to split between two hungry people or three with an appetizer. The Italian roll was amazing, too. I got the ham and jalapeño. The bread they use is quality and reminds me of east coast style pizza. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
UPDATED REVIEW: it seems that the fly problem has been taken care of. This time around I ordered the pizza made instead of the reheated slice and it tasted a lot better. The crust was fluffier and overall it was a satisfying meal.

Yelp
This is right by the University, and it is very high trafficked with college students. It was a really cute hole in the wall pizza place. We ordered two pepperoni pizzas and they came out super quick. I was pleased with the cleanliness of this restaurant, and I really enjoyed how delicious the pizza was. My fiancé and I even order an additional two pizzas to go that were just cheese pizzas. My only suggestion would be that staff possibly be a more but it friendlier and a tentative at the front. The price was great and I highly suggest this pizza place for before drinks or after drinks.

Vikram P.

Yelp
This food was AMAZING!! Best pizza I've ever had. The restraint was beautiful and well kept. I loved the unique style of the large pizza slices, surely something I've never seen.

Theresa M.

Yelp
I have never devoured a better-tasting pizza--with the freshest vegetables, expertly blended sauces, and flavorful crusts. I had half of the Rosalie with Roma tomatoes, mushrooms and no red sauce. Other half Italian vegetable with artichoke, spinach, onion, and red sauce. Both were divine so I can't pick a favorite. These pizzas are loaded compared to the chain store pizzas. The 28-inch pizzas have eye-popping HUGE slices at great value. Gabriel gave superb service. I especially appreciated the large lemon slices for my brewed ice tea. Beer selection was varied and kept ice cold. Apple cinnamon roll was delicious dessert. Large tree out front keeps the deck shaded and great for people-watching on the Drag. The sign outside says they are celebrating 30 years and I understand why--it's simply the best pizza in Austin--or anywhere.

Yelp
Roppolo's has always been there when you needed them most whether you knew it or not. If you've been to 6th street and have drunkenly ordered a big slice of pizza at 2am, then chances are that you ordered it from Roppolo's. A life saver in your most dire time of need! But does it live up to it's name at 2pm when you're just craving pizza for lunch? Yes! I recently got to try them out at their West Campus location and gotj - The Godfather (28") : sausage, pepperoni, bacon, beef, and meatballs - Rosalie (28"): Italian olive oil, ricotta cheese, spinach, tomatoes, onion, mushrooms & garlic - Italian Rolls: Pepperoni, Jalapeño Bacon, and Apple Cinnamon - The Italian Garden Calzone: spinach, artichoke, garlic, roasted red & gold peppers, mushrooms & olive oil First, the pizza was great. The food is very filling for the price you pay. These came with garlic crust which I enjoyed too! The italian rolls? Those were my favorite thing to eat - particularly the jalapeño bacon ones. I could eat those all day! The apple cinnamon was delicious too - the apple was subtle. The calzones? HUGE and a fun way to eat pizza. Holistically, the portions are huge and the prices are affordable across the board. I suggest coming here for when you're craving something casual and comforting. The service was great and the environment is chill. They have outside dining too if you prefer that during the upcoming beautiful spring days. All in all, I would suggest y'all to support local and try them out. Make sure to follow them to keep up with various specials they put out! I had a good time.

Layna M.

Yelp
The slices of pizza were huge! I only had to order one slice and still had left overs. The vibes were casual and laid back and the service was quick.

Ian L.

Yelp
How bad can pizza be? Worse than you'd think. The pizza was super heavy with an overly think layer of greasy (and salty) cheese, cheap tasting mass food distributor sauce, and pre ordered crust. The pizza weighed about 5 pounds so I guess it's a good calorie/dollar ratio.
google avatar

Soham R.

Yelp
The pizza slices are too huge, so make sure you go with an empty stomach. The ham and jalapeño roll is decent.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
Good place for late night pizza. Love the big slices! I got spinach and cheese. The service is nice.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
Late night pizza is perfect. The pizza is good but the location and scenery makes dining here worth it. They have at least four TV screens with games on and sometimes a live performance on the patio. It's family friendly.
google avatar

Tyler B.

Yelp
I really enjoy getting just a huge slice of pizza from here. Crust is crunchy and i have no complaints. 2 slices is more than enough for me. I love being able to sit outside and just enjoy .

Ethan S.

Yelp
Delicious food!!! Really quick service and nice employees. The pricing is also great, which works out great for a late night snack for students. Best pizza in west campus by far!
google avatar

Michael E.

Yelp
Ok. I just came here by chance. But this is absolutely 100% the BEST pizza I've ever had in my entire life. They must put crack in their crust (just kidding, I don't do drugs). Hands down the best pizza I've ever eaten.

Michaela N.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place and were very pleasantly pleased!!! I'd 100% recommend especially with a nice brew. We went before the Texas vs TCU game started and they were busy of course but the service was GREAT!! I

Daniel A.

Yelp
Second time going here -- this time with friends! Fell in love all over again. Got the pepperoni, friends got supreme and cheese. All were amazing. To make things better, the slices are huge! The prices aren't bad either, usually go for $4-$5 a slice and they definitely fill you up. 7.5 on the pizza review scale.
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
By far, the best pizza I have ever had. Cooked perfect, delivered warm, just amazing! Don't just take my word for! Come in and try it. I promise you won't be disappointed! My only complaint... they don't deliver to Scottsdale Arizona where I live. One more thing... don't park in the 7-11 parking lot. They boot you in less than 3 minutes. Park behind the store like I did. It will cost you at least $100 for the jerks at the 7-11 to undo the boot.
google avatar

Kellie H.

Yelp
Roppolo's has huge individual slices, but their whole pizzas are also a pretty good deal. I had the margherita and slice of the day slices. Overall pretty good, personally I think there's needs to be more sauce. Cashier was very nice and friendly!

Christi T.

Yelp
Excellent calzone, but I'm warning you, it's big enough for 4 people!! My husband had the penne pasta with meatball marinara. So good, but better be hungry!!! They don't short you on the servings!

Jack V.

Yelp
Great calzones and good pizza. Nice staff too. Parking is a little tricky for carryout.

Jeremiah N.

Yelp
Pizza and calzone are big for great price. This is the only place i would recommend to others.
google avatar

Ron R.

Yelp
We ordered takeout. Very efficient through the Slice app. Kind of hole in the wall feel. We ordered the margarita and added Canadian bacon 4/5 and the God Father added onion 4/5.
google avatar

Karen A.

Yelp
The quality is amazing and very flavorful! The price was great for the amount of food they give you. You will really need an appetite to eat! Can't wait to go again!

Billyb B.

Yelp
Good buffalo chicken pizza and quick delivery in west campus nothing else to say really
google avatar

Shelby L.

Yelp
Great huge delicious pizza! Awesome for a lunch stop, grab a slice and a drink for a good price. Their dessert are pretty yummy too. Friendly staff, parking is a little odd.
google avatar

Abigail S.

Yelp
The cutest place for pizza and good vibes. The staff is friendly, the music is great. Some Friday nights they even host live music for free. The options and prices are great. Easy parking in the back. The food is delicious and definitely my favorite pizza spot in Austin!

Angela W.

Yelp
Walk from UT campus. Perfect post game snack. Great quality food and friendly service.
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
Excellent food, simple menu, open late. What they do, they do it well. Only qualm is I wish they had more gluten-free options beside the salad.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Amazing!!! So good. Great prices and you can taste the ingredients, super fresh, super GOOD!

Grace C.

Yelp
Sooo good. First time trying it. The sausage is really salty and it'll make you feel heavy afterwards. The Rosalie pizza was my favorite because it's lighter and chewier/cheesy and also vegetarian. Kind of expensive but I would get it again once in awhile! The interior of the restaurant is nice and chill, and walking distance from west campus and campus so very convenient, don't gotta go to sixth street for Roppolo's
google avatar

Travis S.

Yelp
Roppolos is such a tragedy. The vibes are good and they serve beer. Two things I really like. But the pizza just isn't good. The crust is way too bready and the tomato sauce is simply too sweet. I want to like this place but alas.

Morgan M.

Yelp
Ashley was so helpful!! We were having postmates issues and she was so understanding and helped resolve our issue immediately. 10/10 recommend!

Christopher E.

Yelp
Great pizza! Really good service, front cashier was really nice and pizza was awesome!

Austin S.

Yelp
Always have had good memories of roppolos but after having it recently I am disappointed. I had ordered my meal online through their site which already has a service fee a little under a dollar, a waste of money but I ordered. After about 5 minutes I receive a text that my food won't be ready for an HOUR when the pickup time said 20-30 minutes. I pick up my food and walk home, only to find they didn't give me any of my 2 pizza rolls. After calling and waiting, I'm told my only option is to walk all the way back to the restaurant to pick up only 1 pizza roll. The little cost aside, this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Aubrie R.

Yelp
The three times I've gone, the staff have been super friendly! I ordered ahead the first time and my food was kind of cold when I showed up at the pickup time, so I'd recommend just ordering there if you're only getting a slice of pizza because they'll heat it up for a couple of minutes for you. The slices are really big and the apple-cinnamon roll is very soft and perfectly sweet! Definitely gonna be a regular there.

Mike L.

Yelp
First time visiting Austin! Roppolo's was highly recommended by our hotel concierge. It did not disappoint! The gluten free pizza with fresh vegetables was amazing as was the regular personal cheese pie. Authentic pizza! Great atmosphere. The owner even came out to see how we were enjoying Austin and the pizza. Will definitely be back!

Jennifer Hessmer H.

Yelp
New Yorker gluten-free pizza eater in the house! It was the best! Inhaled every last bite. They made the toppings to my request! Staff cheerful and kind! Worth the visit and trip!!
