Rory’s Place Review: There’s No Better Spot to Start and End the Day in Ojai Than This Local Gem | Eater LA

"Deftly made espresso drinks, breakfast pastries and burritos, and lunch sandwiches like tuna conserva on a slim baguette make this daytime spot a reliable place to start the day in Ojai, and its cult-favorite soft serve is considered soft-serve nirvana in town, especially in the buffalo milk vanilla bean and malted chocolate swirl. It’s the place to go when craving Rory’s famous soft serve, since that dessert isn’t offered at the dinner-time restaurant next door." - Nicole Fellah

The 15 Best Restaurants & Bars In Ojai - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Right next door to Rory’s Place, this daytime cafe from the same team should be one of your first stops in Ojai. The space doubles as a neighborhood market stocked with enough fancy sardine cans and orange wine bottles to last a long weekend. Starting at 7:30am, Rory’s serves cloud-like blueberry scones, big breakfast burritos, and fruit-topped granola bowls. In the afternoon, you can graze on a briny niçoise salad, braised white beans dusted with parmesan, or a smoked salmon platter—all while sipping a glass of chablis. Expect to wait in line on weekends and don’t leave without a cup of the buffalo milk soft serve." - nikko duren

Rory's Other Place - Review - Ojai - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

Cute place, service with a smile. It’s a very small place that I could see getting cramped and uncomfortable pretty quickly, but luckily we were in on a rainy Monday and had plenty of elbow room. Granola + yogurt was perfectly sweet, breakfast burrito was nice and hearty. The olive oil cake was fantastic, whereas the espresso drinks were not a highlight but got the job done. Lots of quirky regulars coming and going as we ate which added to the Ojai charm. Definitely going to swing by to try the soft serve next time we’re in town.

I really wanted to like Rory’s Other Place, but this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. The ordering area is a narrow little corridor that can barely fit two people side by side, so if there’s even a small line, you’re basically standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers while trying to decide what to eat. I ordered the Korean bowl with pork belly, and it was… rough. Everything on the plate besides the pork and rice was pickled…kimchi cucumber, kimchi, pickled bean sprouts, pickled cabbage. It was all piled together so that every bite just tasted like — well kimchi. The pork itself was bland and completely drowned out by all the acidity. There was also a soft boiled egg plopped in the middle that was so undercooked I genuinely don’t know how they were able to peel it without it collapsing. To make matters worse, they give you soy sauce to pour over the entire dish, which somehow made it even saltier The cracked bowls didn’t help either. It’s hard to enjoy your meal when the dishes look like they’ve been through a few too many dishwasher cycles. It just didn’t feel clean. The area to sit is hardly shaded, and on warmer days can be uncomfortable. The silverware and water station are sitting in the same unshaded patio. The water was warm, no ice available, and served in metal cups that also harnessed the beautiful warm California day… I usually try to find a silver lining, but this one was a total miss. Between the uncomfortable setup and the truly unpleasant flavors, I left unbelievably disappointed.

Ohhhhmygod. Heaven on earth! I’ll start with the coffee. I tried pistachio milk for the first time here, and all I can say is that I pray it won’t be the last. Often, a Cortado is made with too much milk for the 1:1 ratio it technically requires (and yes I can feel my repulsive coffee snobbery just jumping off the page here too…) But Rory’s Other Place smashed my Cortado with pistachio milk outta the park. I was “yum”ing with every sip! Then there’s the pastries. My boyfriend adored the cookies. I got the vegan gluten free sandwich which was a flavour explosion (you might not believe it what with the whole GF / VE thing, but trust me — I was on cloud 9!) Lastly, the outdoor patio is warm, cozy and buzzy. We loved our stop here!

Google
Great place for a glass of hojicha latte or a matcha latte! But the best thing out of everything was their olive oil drizzled buffalo milk soft serve! We tried all the flavors of the soft serve! Originally we came because of the raving reviews we heard about the matcha afogato and the coffee afogato but the chocolate sundae was good as well. But the best out of all of them was the sea salt and the olive oil. It made it even creamy with a pinch a salt that made the sweetness even deeper! I would recommend this to anyone who is visiting Ojai!

Google
They kindly let me order a granola bowl with oatmilk instead of yogurt, which I really appreciated. The fruit was fresh, the portion size was perfect, and the granola was sweet and hearty!

Google
Couldn’t taste the matcha and a difference that it was buffalo milk. Still delicious though! Just don’t think it was worth $12. Cookie was incredibly good though. Blew me away

I am a bit of a breakfast burrito connoisseur…and I was highly impressed with their chorizo offering. It was delicate yet impactful. Cheesy and rich in the best way.

Everything is so unbelievably delicious here! Servers are very nice and lively and make the experience even better. I usually get the ham and butter ficelle for lunch. Atmosphere is 10/10 and all the food/drinks I've tried so far have also been 10/10 :)

Yelp
The menu is great. The servers helpful and friendly. We loved the savory toast and Korean rice bowl. Outdoor seating. Lots of regulars. Seemed like everyone there were old friends who always spend their mornings together. Will definitely be back during our next Ojai trip!

Yelp
Pros -ham and butter sandwich and tuna sandwich are really good -friendly staff Cons -portions are a bit small for the price but the quality makes up for it -parking can be tough during busy times Rating 7/10

Yelp
This place is very tasty. They offer delicious pastries and soft serve ice cream, too. I believe the soft serve ice cream is made with buffalo milk so it's extra creamy. The service is consistently welcoming and the are accommodating of kids. The ambiance is cute but small with limited indoor seat but a cute little patio outside.

Yelp
Wine, soft serve, flowers, and even furikake all in one place! Rory's other place recently opened, and I can't wait to go back to try the Korean bowl and the breakfast burrito with chorizo. Chocolate Chip Cookie: Scrumdeeleeumptious! HUGE Flat White: was creamy ( I get moo milk ) and perfectly made Orange Wine: Appreciate the generous pour size! Tuna Samich: Yes, please! The ficelle was so soft and handled the tuna salad, would gladly eat this all the time Buffalo Milk Soft Serve: Ngl, sis was hesitant, but it was delish. Can't wait till they serve the hot fudge sundae! Rory's Other Place is definitely a spot to check out. Can't wait for my next visit! The have some outdoor seats, fills fast during the weekend Chilled wines and cheeses are available if you're taking some bites to Libbey Park. There are also knick knacks like seasonings and fresh flowers!

Yelp
My husband and I popped in her for some coffee and a sand which before our day. I ordered an iced latte with oat milk and simple syrup and my husband got the espresso, tonic citrus drink, and we shared a ham and butter sandwich. It was very busy for a Saturday afternoon, which is to be expected. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their drinks and treats. The shop is very small and cute with the little shopping corner.

Yelp
The food, the service, outdoor seating. My mom and I spent two nights in Ojai and found this place for breakfast. It was so yummy we ate here both mornings. We enjoyed the quiche (which was so light), yogurt and homemade granola, two lattes and a few bake goods to go. We'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Menu was limited for a gluten free customer, but they kindly modified a rice bowl to be GF by subbing soy sauce for tamari. Great selection of beverages and pastries (especially for gluten eaters and wine drinkers!) and really friendly service. We loved the soft serve too. Great spot.
