A Mesa fixture for 35+ years, Rosa’s leans Baja with citrus-marinated meats, smoked beans, and standout fish tacos. Noted by Phoenix New Times; locals come for generous plates and that tomatillo salsa.

The moment we walked in a friendly environment, the young ladies gave amazing service. No problem with them very kind, sweet girls. The problem was with the food. 1)I ordered a fish taco, which looked delicious, but when I was about to eat it.I got a very strong fishy smell.Something cod shouldn't smell like. The only time cod should smell like that. It's when it's not stored in proper temperature or it's gone bad. I'm saying this because I used to own a fish market. When I opened up my taco, the fish was half cooked. I let the waitress know she was very apologetic and very quick to fix the problem. And I do thank them for that. 2) My husband ordered a steak burrito. This thing was drenching in oil.Like you have no idea he didn't even eat it.We brought it home. Mesa Location. On University and Mesa drive.

This is one of my absolute favorite places to eat. I am from the Midwest and any time someone visits I take them here to show them real Mexican food. Their rice and beans are so good I actually eat it before the entree! The chimichanga is absolutely MASSIVE!!! their Verde salsa is sweet and delicious, they have a much hotter salsa you can request that is brick red full of smokey flavor and heat! 11 out of 10 stars!

Tried this restaurant for the first time today and we were very impressed. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, the servers are wonderfully friendly and upbeat, and the menu is full of amazing dishes we will be returning to try more of! The salsa verde is the best I've ever had. I ordered the glazed salmon salad, which turned out to be the perfect summer salad complete with strawberries and orange slices that paired well with the salmon glaze. Hubby ordered the steak fajitas and was very happy with the well seasoned meat and veggies and generous portions. Highly recommend!

Google
Amazing authentic food. Been coming here for a long time. Food and atmosphere are great

Google
Got their early as they just opened up. Both dishes were barely warm, a long, long way from hot. like I said it was barely opened, so understandable. Food was excellent, excellent leftovers. Definitely going back, they just need to nuke some of the ingredients if they are not up to temperature.

Google
Rosa's is a good 40 minute drive for us, but we used to love it there so much that it didn't bother us. They refurbished the outside of the building where Rosa's is in and since then, the prices went way up,Ike almost doubled in price. Rosa's is no longer affordable for us, we've been back twice and the last time we said we would no longer go back. It seems the food and atmosphere just isn't the same anymore

Google
The sign is hard to see at sunset, but thank Heavens we discovered this superbly authentico. The food is nutritious and tastes gourmet. Cannot find another authentic Mexican grill anywhere else in the valley. Seriously, Thank you! Rosa's Mexican Grill serves a dleep rich bold molè cheese enchiladas. Hot chips with two salsas, I like mild the spice and Verde has a wonderful sweety tang. Gratitude to all the kind gorgeous co-staff made us feel welcomed. Do they always make margaritas this good? Will find out when we visit again next week.

Google
Lovely restaurant. Staff are welcoming and polite, the environment is relaxing with beautiful pictures and artifacts. The food was decent. Food pictured is the salmon taco. Salmon was good but the mango was unripe.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our meal here. Sweet pork chimichanga was great. Only complaint was that some of the pork was a bit dry-- hopefully an unusual, not a regular, problem. Chips and salsa are my favorite here. (Although my husband finds the salsa too sweet). Good service and nice ambiance.

Yelp
Was in Mesa for a meeting and ran across the place. Somewhat classic strip-mall family Mexican joint. Menu covers all the standards and a few extras. Service was fast and friendly. Chips and salsa were interesting. The red and green sauce have a slight sweetness to them. Not something that is common. The red was more to my liking as the green had the more pronounced sweet flavor. The chips were crispy and fresh. For lunch, I opted for one of the lunch specials - A bean tostada with rice and beans. Only $10 so a good call. All the food was good. Plenty of beans on the tostada and covered in lettuce, tomato, and cheese. The refried beans were the most interesting part - they have a subtle smokiness to them. Again, not something I was expecting. When in Mesa, perhaps worth a look, N*joy

Yelp
Great food at reasonable prices. Gets crowded sometimes. Make reservations or go on off hours.

Yelp
The service was great and waiter was attentive and nice. The appetizer we got was the mini chimichangas and they did not disappoint they were packed and delicious. We tried the mango, peach, strawberry and regular margaritas and they were excellent. Great experience and would definitely go there again.

Yelp
I had the shrimp tacos they are delicious. I staff is friendly and service was fast. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance with beautiful decor inside. I highly recommend Rosa's.

Yelp
I was with a large 12 person family group. Rosa's did a good job accommodating our group in a semi-private area. They do have chips and salsa (chunky fresh red and a sweet green tomatillo) for the table. The chunky red tastes fresh and has great cilantro and tomato flavor. The green is my favorite and is on the sweet side. I order the combo fajitas (chicken and steak). The entree was $28 and they have Coke products. The chicken was super tender and had a great flavor. The steak had a good flavor but maybe my cut of meat wasn't great because it was a bit chewy. I had to cut it with my knife to make it work in the tortillas. It came with a generous helping of guacamole and sour cream with beans and rice. I think it also had 4 tortillas as well. It could have fed 2 people easy. I'm big and I barely finished. Great food and great service and ambiance.

Yelp
Rosa's is a completely average hole-in-the-wall Mexican place with gourmet prices that just don't match the quality of the food. It may have been the least impressive Mexican food I've had in Arizona. I ordered mole enchiladas and they were just fine. Nothing special, but nothing bad about them. But to pay $25 for this plate of tortillas, rice, beans, and a few pieces of chicken is a little outrageous. I feel like I've had better for cheaper from food trucks. I will say the service was nice. Our waitress was friendly and brought everything out quickly. But the food was not something I would recommend anyone go out of their way for.

Yelp
This is probably our 4th or 5th time we've been here! Every year when we come to AZ for Spring Training, we stop here for at least one meal! Today I am getting a Frozen Mango Margarita , it's perfectly made, not too sweet, not too much tequila! (I got a second Margarita...on the rocks this time) Normally I enjoy their Horchata, but since I got the Margarita today, I didn't. I decided to have the sweet pork chimichangas! Amazing!

Samantha B.

Yelp
There's a bunch birds crammed in cages on top of the restaurant. Very sad to see . Haven't eaten here but would not try it..

Yelp
We waited a bit at the front door to be seated. Once we were seated we ordered jalapeno margaritas which were not spicy at all. Tacos al pastor were flavorful and there was a lot of meat. Red chili pork tamales which were very tasty. Enchiladas mariscos was amazing... overall quick service !!!!

Yelp
Rosa's continues to be our very favorite Mexican restaurant. Their baja Mexican menu is alway full of consistently delicious food. The seafood tacos paired with the Rice and smokie refried beans is an excellent Summer treat. Best Margaritas around. The service is friendly and takes excellent care to keep our drinks filled and make sure if we need anything. Thank-you for your many years excellent service.

Yelp
Great food service is good. The restaurant provides a nice ambience. We ordered their taco crisp with cheese. It was absolutely perfect. Haven't had one like that since so we'll be going back when we get close.

Yelp
This place used to be one of our favorites. not sure what's up with them but the food taste and quality isn't what it used to be. what's even worse is their prices have skyrocketed and really became unreal. Permanent hard pass, so sad!

Aileen C.

Yelp
I ordered a taco salad no meat with black beans. What I got was a bunch of lettuce, and a crap ton of mandarins, like who puts mandarins in a taco salad!!! I just told the lady what I wanted and fit the opposite. I could have let it slide if it was good but it was nasty!!! Even the green salsa was weird it was to sweet! I paid 20$ for stupid ass rabbit food!!! They should be ashamed!!!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was phenomenal. All the flavors exceeded expectation. The service was given with a smile. And he made sure our drinks were always full and that we enjoyed our meal. The ambience was very casual. And family oriented. I highly recommend this Mexican restaurant.

Yelp
We had a large family group looking for dinner out over the holidays on a weeknight. Rosa's accommodated us on short notice and close to closing time with a great meal and great service. And plenty of compliments about how good and authentic the food was!

Myla K.

Yelp
1-they are very dog friendly. It was 105° outside, but we were shown to a booth with our dog. The waiter even brought out a container of water for him. 2- the chunky guacamole was the BEST, and could be a meal by itself. 3- the food platters are HUGE and delicious. We had chicken enchiladas with mole, and a corn tamale and cheese enchilada. Neither my husband nor I could finish our meals. Well worth a stop!

Shea M.

Yelp
Went tonight with my boyfriend and the food was AMAZING! The two waiters were seating, cleaning, and serving the entire restaurant by themselves. With smiles on their faces they were working so hard to take care of all the tables including some large groups. Great to see such good work ethic in what looked like a stressful rush, and they remained so polite under pressure. Food came out quick and everything was delicious.

Yelp
This was the first Mexican restaurant that we tried 25 years ago when we moved to AZ. IT's not as crowded and the service and food are still amazing. My wife had the Beef Enchiladas and I had the Shrimp Burrito. Both were savory and delicious. The refried beans were the best my wife has had and all the food came out piping hot. Our server was attentive and the place still had the beautiful Mexican decor.

Bob T.

Yelp
We love Rosas. Their margaritas are awesome and we like their mole enchiladas. The service is excellent. This place is kind of a hidden gem. If you are in Mesa on vacation, we recommend you give it a try!

Yelp
Really nice old school hole in the wall with great tile. Love the Smokey beans. I had the fajitas which were good. Nothing particularly wrong. Good service and coke products. Only down side is the extreme prices. I get there is inflation but nothing I ate was above ordinary in the product category. This is hole in the wall Mexican with gourmet prices. If it was the best Mexican I ate then maybe. I would go back but it's so expensive it's bank breaking. For example a single taco a la cart $15. Variously Queen charges $5 and they are similar sizes But still thumbs up if you can afford a $200 meal

Bruce H.

Yelp
We were greeted as valued customers. Our service was outstanding. The chips and salsa , along with the Cadillac margaritas were top notch. The ambiance was very nice and reminded us of a neighborhood restaurant (which they try to model). Our overall experience was very nice!
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
The food, service and ambience here are excellent. The lunch portion was large enough that I could take food home and have a second meal. My lunch burrito plate was $12. A large Coke, Coca-Cola is $3.00

Nathan S.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine in the Phoenix-Mesa area then Rosa's Mexican Grill is for you! The atmosphere makes you feel as though you were really in Mexico. The Chicken Mango Salad is incredible. If you want something sweet, get the sweet pork, which is marinated in Dr. Pepper. The shrimp tacos with pineapple salsa is delicious. The service is fast and friendly. I would definitely recommend Rosa's Mexican Grill.
google avatar

Yelp
The outside does not match the interior/ When you enter, the walls are covered in hand painted tiles lending an authentic flavor to the space. We were met immediately with menus and a server ready for drink orders. Sadly they're are no beers on tap but the bottled beers are ice cold. I ordered a tamal and cheese enchilada in red sauce. All entrees come with rice and beans and chips with salsa. The chips are delightfully thin and crispy and salsa is fresh with lots of oregano. The entree portions are served on heated platter and are huge!!! The beans are so good, best I've ever had, and vegetarian at that. Lots of smoked mesquite flavor... delish!!!! Rice was well seasoned and ample. The tamale was sweet ish with a good helping of delicious red sauce. And I had a cheese enchilada as well with tons of cheese. The enchilada came home with me for later. I will be bringing friends and family here, the ambiance. The food and decor... the whole package.

Yelp
Was in the Mesa area when I found this restaurant. I found it to be authentic Mexican cuisine. Servers were very friendly. Atmosphere was authentic as well. Will certainly visit this place again.

Janet M.

Yelp
Love the food and the service. They have the best green salsa and guacamole. Carne asada is amazing. Wonderful sopapillas

Yelp
First time here, what a pleasant surprise. Great local ambience. Ordered the lunch size papaya chicken salad and it was very colorful and tasty. Large menu and lots of selections. The mole' chicken enchiladas were very tempting. Complimentary chips were fresh and served with a red and green salsa. Put this one on your List.

Yelp
I used to eat at the Rosa's off mckellips which I really enjoyed. The environment was awesome with all the decorations, service was pretty good and the food tasted great. They always have had this location which was their primary location so I give it a shot. Not necessarily in the best parking lot which is right next to Fallas. Still has a great traditional Mexican decorations and with plenty of seating I remember being a bit fan of the beans. They have this nice smokey taste to it so I went with the veggie burrito with a side of beans. The burrito is huge and for sure it couldn't be eaten all at one sitting unless you want to take a nap shortly after. The burrito was good but I felt like it was a majority of beans with very little veggies within the burrito. I wish there was a bit more more filling other than beans but the burrito wasn't too bad. The beans tasted good but I might of went overkill with beans cause that's all I felt like I was eating. The savior was the green salsa that really is a tasty salsa that has a little heat and a nice sweet taste. I can just eat that and the chips all day All in all, it's a pretty good portion of food, tons of chips and salsa and the food was just average.

Carlos F.

Yelp
Great food nice service!!!! Nice and historic restaurant I love the decorations and nice atmosphere for family members I recommend highly considering to visit and enjoying the best food in mesa for long time ps the tomatillo sauce its bomd!!!!!

Stephanie O.

Yelp
We've been eating at Rosa's for many years anytime we get over to the East side of the valley. We love the smoky refried beans, the chile corn, and the sweet tomatillo salsa. The prices have gotten quite expensive, so eating here is definitely a splurge for us. The high prices, and the fact that they ration the amount of chips and salsa you can have without having to pay for more are a downer. I've always bought a pint of tomatillo salsa to go, and it's now $12 before tax. Sadly, at that price I'll be giving that treat up.
google avatar

Vicki O.

Yelp
Excellent, friendly service and great menu selections! The lunch plates were amazingly delicious and the portions were so plentiful! The mango margaritas were the best! This has to be hands down the best Mexican restaurant in Mesa! The salsa Verde was so addictive and homemade. This was the first time we visited here. I highly recommend coming here!
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Food was average at best. Service was quick, and the ambiance wasn't bad. However, prices are high for the food. I will not be back just due to the high prices. Try it if you want. Maybe you'll like the food?

Yelp
I was visiting Mesa for spring training and decided to try this restaurant because it was the closest to our hotel. It's one of the only open businesses in the entire shopping center. We sat on the patio and it was very clean. Our waiter was super attentive and very friendly. The chips are DELICIOUS, but I didn't care for either salsa given. The green salsa is very sweet, and the red salsa needed acidity badly. The soft drinks come in a large size, and they have the "good ice." My reason for 3 stars is due to not liking the food whatsoever. The prices are definitely on the higher end, and the food quality was not very good. Lack of flavor in almost everything, beans being the worst. The beef in my taquitos was very soft but unfortunately flavorless. Neither of us finished our food.

Yit R.

Yelp
The food was really flavorful. Waitress is wonderful. Definitely recommend this place. Love the decor.

Darlene B.

Yelp
We are so glad to have made the drive after arriving in town for vacation! Rosa's was clean, inviting and our server was fantastic! The classic margaritas were very tasty and well made! The chips and two salsa's were excellent especially the green tomatillo! The chili relleno with ground beef enchilada had wonderful flavor and we were so pleased to have black beans as well! We also had the flying saucer which was also excellent with the sweet pork. The star was the grilled fish taco, so much so that we ordered an extra to bring home with our leftovers! Thank you for such an enjoyable meal in your fine city!
google avatar

Barbara K.

Yelp
The food, service and ambience all bring this place to the top of my list for my place to go for authentic Mexican food with a family feel. The first time I walked in it was as if I'd been there before. The food was yummy and the staff treated us quickly and friendly. If you're in the downtown Mesa area check it out, you'll be glad you did!
google avatar

Yelp
Seriously I have never tasted a smoky aromatic refried bean dish EVER as I have here and I've had a lifetime of refried beans. Now I don't know what this place's special dishes are but hell, just come here for the refried beans. Amazing. I had no idea refried beans could be mystical except for the descriptions I read in Of Mice and Men. Mystical refried beans. You want a mystical experience without having to flag some LSD down? Eat some beans HERE. I had the mole enchiladas but honestly the refried beans stole the show. THE. REFRIED. BEANS. ORDER THEM. EAT THEM. DREAM ALL NIGHT ABOUT THEM.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Excellent food & service. I had their carnitas enchiladas with beans & rice and it was delicious! The pork was flavorful, tender and moist, and the refried beans have an unexpected & unique smoky flavor! Their happy hour is a great value as well. Highly recommend.

Lily L.

Yelp
This place is so beautiful inside but the food is horrible. I wouldn't recommend the food there. My son's taco had hair in it. Don't try this place!!! it's not worth it especially when the plates are $20 each.

Janell A.

Yelp
Over the years, I have eaten at Rosa's numerous times. Usually, the food and the service are good, but today both were disappointing. The young man who served us was unfriendly, bordering on rude. It seems that now Rosa's will charge diners for extra salsa -- $3 to $3.75 for a small dish of salsa. Without salsa, the burro I ordered was dry and flavorless. But I was not going to spend $3+ for a few ounces of salsa. Most Mexican restaurants generously refill salsa, some even refill chips. In the future, we will opt for Si Señor where the salsa is abundant and varied, or Valle Luna. Rosa's is no longer on our list of favored Mexican restaurants. Perhaps others have come to the same conclusion; this is the first time we have dined there and been the only ones in the restaurant.

Denise P.

Yelp
The Mexican food is always good at Rosa's!i It's as authentic Arizona Traditional Mexican as it gets. Just like when I was a kid and we'd always have go out for Mexican food when we'd come to town. Places like this are getting harder and harder to find as they're all going Tex-mex or Cali-Mex to be like everyone else out there. Thanks for sticking with Tradition, Rosa's. And the food...no problem, has stayed traditional too, (and, yummmm, just like it should be!)

Ruth B.

Yelp
The food here is amazing.... authentic flavor and plenty of choices to explore. I've never had anything that was less than fantastic! Top that with a fun atmosphere and amazing service along with reasonable prices and you'll keep going back! Highly, highly recommend!!
google avatar

Julzs P.

Yelp
The food is pretty good and the prices are just right. I ordered a tamale and it wasn't to bad for a tamale i was craving and didn't want to make some. The chips and green salsa are always my favorite.

Jillian L.

Yelp
Man what a disappointment.. the cool neon signage drew us in but the food fell flat! The salsa was overly sweet and bland and tasted like stewed tomatoes. Got the taco plate, ground beef and the taco shells were soggy and fell through and the meat was bland with no taste. There was no amount of salt that was going to do it justice. Also the beans and rice had the taste of liquid amino smoke flavoring which was absolutely unappetizing. Overall, we spent $55 and left unsatisfied and disappointed. Pricey and just not good.. save money and go anywhere else!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
This place is nostalgic for me because my wife and I had our first date here years ago, and she ate here long before. But in my visits since then, the food has struck me as average and heavy, and the chicken has been kind of tough. This time it was the chicken mole enchiladas. Mole itself wasn't bad. My wife just wasn't impressed with chille relleno. Prices have gone up lately (which is happening everywhere), but the prices here are too high for the quality. The place itself has a cool old school Mexican restaurant vibe, lots of tile, color, and art. The plaza it's in has seen better days. They seem to have some good happy hour deals.

Robert S.

Yelp
Good food in an unpretentious environment. All of the staff are very friendly. A good variety of food specialties on the menu.
google avatar

Phil G.

Yelp
Would give it zero stars if I could. Cannot tell you if food is good because I asked for no onions, no tomatoes, no cilantro, no nothing. Just beans and beef. Verified order with counter. Chef does what they want it appears.
