Phoenix’s 10 Best Breweries | Eater Phoenix

"Named after a Blink 182 lyric, this rising star brewery is a headliner of Phoenix’s new brewing generation. Roses by the Stairs makes farmhouse-style beers using local ingredients. The team here is intense about ingredients that they list, on top of hop varieties, the specific kinds of malt they use. Offerings range from new-wave IPAs to classic sour styles. The brewers paint with a wide brush, tapping barleywine, sour pinkened with foraged prickly pear, and brett-conditioned saison. If you crave a spunky, thoughtful beer experience, welcome home." - Chris Malloy

Google
This may be my new favorite brewery in the western US. Their selection of Hazy beers are incredible… loved every one of em. Staff is great and vide is cool. A good group of patrons and plenty of events. The sour was pretty damned good too. Starting trivia nights too so excited to see what other events they have.

Google
A solid brewery environment, great space, lots of beer options. Went with the flight so I can sample a number of options. I didn’t love all of the options, but I’m glad I tried something different. Very nice and friendly barkeep, very patient answering questions and offering suggestions. Great spot for beer lovers or beer enthusiast looking for something different.

This was our first time at Roses by the stairs, we went for AZ Brewery Hop. The Blink 182 themed brewery is a chill spot with clever beer names playing off the band. The staff is friendly and loves any additional reference that can be made. The beer is good, we tried a good portion of what they offer and I think there is something for everyone!

Google
I just had my first visit to Stair Brewing, and it definitely won't be my last. The service was excellent, and the beer was wonderful. It's a truly great place to enjoy a brew.

Google
Really great beer and the place is very fun. However it seems like there's no AC or it's hardly working. There's also no cold water (the water dispenser does not have cold water and they do not have bottled). On a 109 degree day in Phoenix we could only have 1 beer before we had to leave. I hope it gets fixed.

Great beer (Amazing selection of hazys). Great service. Dogs allowed inside. Live music. 🤙

Inaugural visit Saturday. After stopping at a brewery that was celebrating it's anniversary THIS was just the brewery I was looking for! Quiet, kids not running around, not nutty busy....just a quiet brewery w friendly beetender Tony! We almost didn't make it in as there isn't a lot of parking and all the spots were taken,... lucky for us a jeep left just as we were giving our second drive around. I was so excited to see ALL standard height tables!! Even the bar was regular barstools, not high top. There was even a couch lounge area and another couch nearby. So far this has clinched me!! The north was is mostly windows, glass doors or garage doors so lots of light and lets you see what's going on out on McDowell! Tony was kind and very helpful in building my flight and helping my mom pick a pint. The brew house is right there too! Comfortable chairs around the different tables. I like the tap list, it's not a standard list, it's 8.5x11 colored print outs. Tony was also very helpful in describing which order to drink my beers in and why. Upon tabbing out Tony slid me a sticker....much to my delight!! I collect these!! Thanks Tony and Roses By The Stairs for meeting my brewery needs on a Saturday afternoon.....cheers!

Roses by the Stairs Brewing is a hidden gem in the craft beer world, offering a fantastic mix of creativity, quality, and community. The brewery’s ambiance feels welcoming, with a relaxed, minimalist design that complements its focus on sustainability and local ingredients. The beer selection is impressive, showcasing unique, thoughtfully crafted brews that cater to a variety of palates. Their emphasis on experimental and small-batch beers sets them apart from other breweries. I especially loved their rotating selection of sours and IPAs, which strike a perfect balance between flavor and drinkability. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, always ready to guide you through their offerings or recommend a perfect pairing. What makes Roses by the Stairs Brewing truly special is their commitment to sustainability and local sourcing. They partner with local farmers and suppliers, and their environmentally conscious brewing process makes you feel good about supporting them. If you’re in the area and appreciate innovative brews with a purpose, this is a must-visit spot. It’s a great place to unwind with friends or simply explore new flavors in the world of craft beer.

Yelp
Needed beer after a long work day. Scale: 1-5 Beer: 5 - Best Kept Secret DDH Hazy IPA was my favorite. Double Oaked BA Imperial Stout was also awesome. Good variety of beers to try. Atmosphere: 5 - Clean bright and open area. Service: 5 - Quick! Had a couple tasters, a flight and a pint. Food: N/A- just a few snacks Cultural/Political Agenda (1-5): 5 -Everyone is welcome. No preachy nonsense--just beer, as it should be.

Yelp
Great space for a large gathering. There were several newbie comedians performing. Good space . Interesting non-alcoholic drinks. Parking a lil challenge.

Yelp
Interestingly, my last review got removed, I guess for being too honestly descripitive about the workers and clientele I experienced and described, but the owner's snarky response to my deleted post remains... Updated review (my first one from early months, the only remaining, was stellar): It was trivia night, packed, and they had one person working. Needless to say there was an ongoing wait and an unpleasantly chaotic vibe. Still lots of dogs and babies (feet- and diaper-first) on the chairs and tables (see picture), which were not being cleaned between patrons due to poor staffing, with lots of beer and food (from the food truck) being served--Gross!! We sat at the bar, which was dirty the whole time and never wiped down. I like to research beers before going to a place so I know what I want to order. However, the beers listed on their website do not match what's actually available. Neither beer I wanted was available, which was annoying. The atmosphere has declined since their early months. The lighting is harsh, and the rear area, which previously had an inviting and cozy vibe, is sterile and barren. They also rarely have live music anymore. They brew a lot of very good beers; however, the experience of going there was unfortunately again unsettling and lacking.

Yelp
My first stop at this brewery after researching and the visit was worth it. The spot is dog friendly which is a plus for me. They have a nice patio out front when weather allows and the indoor space offers multiple types of seating. The selection of beers was enough to make it an experience, which is something I always look for. I tried a few IPA's and they were crisp and refreshing. They have a to go beer fridge which was busy when I was there. The bartenders were accommodating and helpful.

Yelp
As I have said before in my brewery adventures that there is a brewery with just about every theme under the sun. This brewery is themed towards Blink-182. I didn't pick up on that right away since I'm not super familiar with the brewery but glad I found that out before it was too late. Steve and I had an absolutely wonderful IPA here called Summer at the Warped Tour. What made us so impressed with this IPA was that it kind of had more of a delicate flavor to it unlike most IPA'S we have had. And maybe that accounts for the mouthfeel we got that is one of the characteristics with this beer. In appearance it's hazy and cloudy. For flavors you can pick up fruitiness, peach all with a tropical essence going on in general. Excellent, excellent IPA and that earns this brewery a five star score from us!

Yelp
It is so fun for me to see this place so busy. We have been coming since it opened. The beer is good, the ambiance is quaint and they have all kinds of events during the week. We went because they had pizza and some local vendors selling their wares. The patio is nice as well. An overall great place.

Yelp
If you're looking for great craft beers in the Phoenix area, Roses By The Stairs Brewing is where it's at! I've been to a fair amount of different breweries in this area during my last few trips to Phoenix, and I have to say, this would be my top pick for those who really like hazy beers, and also bourbon barrel-aged stouts (they have a good variety of beers outside of just hazys and stouts). They are a newer brewery (2 years old), and their space is clean and modern. This is also the perfect place to go if you're a Blink-182 fan, since this brewery is named from the lyrics in the "All the Same Things" song. They were busy but not packed around 5pm on a Sunday, and they had 15 beers on tap as well as a few non alcoholic drink options. I decided to go with a flight of beers (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=W6EOJ3fy0ALKItY813Qyyg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg), and everything I tried was really good. I loved that they had board games and a deck of cards available. They don't serve food (they had a few snack options), but they usually have a food truck parked out front). You can also order from next door (Little O's), and a couple of other restaurants that will deliver. Both indoor and outdoor seating was available. Parking was easy to find at the time since they have their own small lot.

Yelp
Fun establishment. Feels like a brewery that has more of a young hipster vibe as opposed to most of the Valleys breweries seem to cater to a more established (aka older) clientele. Like so many breweries they are heavy on the IPAs but do have a good mix of styles. Not much parking however. Also no food options.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is absolutely fabulous. We love getting tacos delivered from next door and there are always good food trucks around! The bartenders are always friendly and attentive and I love that they kept the essence of Easleys in the building. It's a great place in non peak hours to bring a book or laptop if you're into that kind of thing. Not typically too loud and usually playing great music.
google avatar

Yelp
Yea this is one of the best in AZ. I go here every time I'm in town and it never disappoints. Lots of live music and there is a trivia night. Beertenders love thier job and know the beers. There are food options close so don't worry. Try this place out it's great beer!

Yelp
Stopped by about a week ago and my boyfriend liked the 7th and McDowell IPA so much he wanted to visit again. He had a few. I chose a Fruit Salad Sour and had a few. Last time a friendly gentleman was our bartender. This time a kind woman was our bartender. We befriended a few of the regulars during our last visit. This visit was a bit quieter. We decided to enjoy a pizza from a nearby pizza shop. We were going to order from Little O's, but our bartender suggested Forno301 for an authentic pie. Excellent suggestion, thank you! We'll see you guys soon!

Yelp
This is a nice space to enjoy a good brew. I liked the taproom it was nice and spacious. The beer tender was very friendly and provided good service. I only got a beer as I was brewery hopping and was pressed for time. I got the Good Sunshine sour. It was very good and I enjoyed it very much. Overall it was a nice place for a beer. Only thing that irks me is the parents that bring kids to breweries. It's a pet peeve of mine. It's one thing for parents to bring their little demons but it's another when the brewery is promoting family activities at the brewery. That's very weird to me.

Yelp
Great place and part of the beer babes family. Had a hazy ipa and a west coast ipa. Both delicious. If you're in Phoenix this is a great spot to visit. There are also many other breweries in the area. Cheers to great service and a wonderful time.

Yelp
Chill vibe and cool, open warehouse-type environment. You've gotta like IPA's because there aren't a lot of choices. Also no food, but there are places nearby where you can order food and eat it there. Friendly staff, tight parking, but def worth a visit.
google avatar

Deya Z.

Yelp
with only 40+ reviews, i was a bit nervous walking in. Once i had the first sip, it was totally worth it. Their NEIPA, Touchdown Boy, was pretty good. The only reason for the 1 star drop - it took the beer tender a while to notice me at the bar. I grabbed a seat at the bar during trivia night & he walked by at least 3 times...

Yelp
Great place for beers after a few hours at the PHX Art museum, very close. We had to circle a few times for parking on a Saturday afternoon but it is worth it. Love the name of course and the vibe would definitely be Mark, Tom, and Travis approved. We enjoyed the beers we tried. Would love to go back next time we visit PHX.

Yelp
Straight forward brewery, interior is exactly as you would expect. Staff was helpful and knowledgeable. The beer was very good, some unexpected flavor profiles that were really good and surprising. Really enjoyed.

Yelp
Roses by the stairs is a favorite of ours to walk to and have a drink or two to top off the day. The parking is limited, however, when we have drove it's never been an issue. You used to be able to order little Os to eat while there so I wonder if they'll do the same with the new taco spot going in. Great beer selections and the bartender was very helpful. Open space that doesn't feel crowded and we liked being able to play games while there
google avatar

Ileana H.

Yelp
The grandparents agreed to babysit while we went out for a date night in Phoenix. We drove over here on a Wednesday night after pay-what-you-wish Wednesday at the Phoenix Art Museum. There were a few spaces left in the parking lot on a colder night. It did not appear that there was heat inside. We kept our light jackets on while we had our beers and snacks. The bartender was super friendly. He was nice and attentive. He offered and gave us a taste of beers we were considering. The Pomegranate Parfait was delicious. Just enough sweetness and sour. I tasted my husband's Descend into Hoppiness, which was pretty tasty. We also had their snacks on sale - a small bag of potato chips and a bigger bag of Spicy BBQ popcorn. We saw that you can order takeout from Little O's, which has a good variety of salads, burgers, pizza, children's menu, dessert, chips and salsa or guacamole, and nachos, including some vegetarian- friendly options. There were a number of board games tucked aside. I also noticed a high chair inside. All in all, a welcoming brewery with delicious beers.

Yelp
Oh my goodness! This place has been open less than a year but do they know beer! I tried their two bourbon barrel aged stouts- one with Nicaraguan cacao nibs and the other with Guatemalan- and literally they are among the very best beers I've ever had.

Tony E.

Yelp
One of the best no-frills, dog-friendly, and kid-friendly breweries around. Roses continually have new beers almost every week, so there's a huge incentive to go back and try their tasty beers. Hazy IPA, IPA, and Sours styles seem to be their wheelhouse but they also would have Lager, Gose, and Stout beers occasionally. They do not have a kitchen but generally have a food truck or you can order from Little O's next door. They will come to you at Roses to drop off.

Yelp
Surprises let me know she cares......... When I saw the name of this brewery, my heart stopped! It was a surprise to find my two favorite things in one. It really is all the small things! But to say the least, the beer matches the music, 100% punk rock. I actually kind of felt like I was at the warped tour. The beer is bright, crisp, refreshing, complex, unique, and flavorful. I actually think I don't have anything bad to say about one beer on the menu. The brewery itself is super inviting and open. They also have a ton of board games and are dog friendly. Stop by if you are downtown and want to hang out at a cool spot!

L W.

Yelp
A sweet surprise during our travel. Beer was awesome. I wish it was in my hometown. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lisa T.

Yelp
Say it ain't so, I will not go! It was our first time in and I was looking forward to having a couple of beers and chilling out a bit, but the fact that there were twice as many young kids in the place that adults caused us to have one beer quickly and leave. Several kids were running and chasing each other in the parking lot, a couple were screaming loudly and bumping into our table repeatedly while trying to play foosball. There was another table with 4 or 5 kids who were quietly coloring, but they were sitting at their own table without adults nearby. Did they belong to staff? When there about 7adults or so and about 15+ kids, it doesn't feel like the right atmposhere for a brewery for us. I enjoyed the beer I had, but we won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Another favorite brewery we have added to our list! We learned about them when visiting another local brewery that shared a collaboration with them and we loved it. They are an independent brewery with a focus on farmhouse style beers exploring different approaches on flavors. They source local ingredients making them authentically Arizonian style beers. They have saisons, sours and cool twists on them, including the spicy sour (desert punch) That one was fun to drink haha Definitely a cool spot, with games and great atmosphere.

Yelp
I'd somehow stumbled upon Roses By the Stairs' Instagram page well before they opened. Always excited for a new local brewery, I began following along. Once doors opened it took some time for me to stop in only because it's a little out of my way. Ultimately, it was the Reproductive Rights petition that finally did it. A bunch of girlfriends and myself ventured out one night so we could sign the petition that they were willing to post. Not only is it important for me to support local business, but even more so those that speak up for my rights as a woman. We enjoyed a great night tasting their beers and playing a handful of games they have scattered around the seating area. As they rotate beers regularly, I'm excited to come back and try more. I highly suggest following along on social media. It's great to see the owners harvesting fresh and local ingredients for the coming beers and you can also see what fun events may be happening like trivia or open mic night!

Yelp
Really cool place in a really cool corner of downtown-ish Phoenix. I'm glad they're open! My friend got there early to grab a bunch of us a table. By the time I arrived everyone had already started on pints/flights and ordered food from Little O's next door (QR codes everywhere to quickly order delivery!). I went ahead and ordered a flight to get a taste of all what they had on tap. Out of all of them my favorite/the best was the Farmhouse Pale Ale. After a long day of physical labor, it was quite refreshing and just what the doctor ordered. My next fave was We Are BG. Great example of what a Hazy IPA should be. The others were a little meh (can't remember what their names are, sorry!), but it's cool to follow their socials to see what's in progress, what I've missed since their opening. Hopefully will see them at future festivals! They look to be hosting weekly various events like trivia, open mics and live music. Our happy hour that extended to last call (lololol) included a live music set of acoustic emo and the eponymous All The Small Things.
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
This newly opened brewery is already brewing some of the best beer in town. I loved the Oakie Josie farmhouse ale and the hazy IPA called This is Growing Up was fantastic. The bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. They are hoping to have food ordering and delivery from Little O's which is next door very soon.

Mary N.

Yelp
Beer selection and pricing is fair ( $7.5) Really liked this place but one thing that turned me off was witnessing a person who was sitting at the bar (a stool away) with their dog (indoor) give the dog a drink of beer out of their 5oz glass. The dog got what he could out of the glass and it was all over the floor. Very unsanitary. The bartender was watching and chuckling. Easy way to get people to not return.
google avatar

Wil S.

Yelp
One of the best breweries in Phoenix. Pet-friendly with amazing beer and great vibes.
google avatar

Shanna F.

Yelp
Chill little hangout spot if you're looking for some craft beer and board games! No food is served here, but you're allowed to bring in outside food from other places, which I think is pretty unique. Friendly staff and don't forget to check their little merch section by the bar for some cute hats and tees!
google avatar

Cindy K.

Yelp
They have an impressive variety of brews! Hands down favorite was Six Gold Coins, a barrel-aged stout made with cacao nibs. You would never know it's 12% ABV, it is SO drinkable and balanced, with flavors of chocolate and vanilla and, as they advertise, a "delicate tartness." Home run! A disadvantage of going on Sunday afternoon was that the parking lot was full, due to overflow from Little O's next door. A distinct *advantage* is that you can order a chorizo breakfast pizza from Little O's and they bring it to you without your even having to leave your barstool. So you can 1) drink delicious beer, 2) eat delicious pizza, 3) listen to live music, 4) then play tabletop shuffleboard. Because they have a bunch of games. Final thoughts: vibe was fun and laid-back, barkeeps were cool and friendly, bathroom was clean, and there's a fair amount of outdoor seating. What's not to love?
google avatar

Lindsey-Star G.

Yelp
They do not understand disability law nor do they want disabled people near their establishment. We had planned to go because there was another one of our favorite spots partnering with them, but that plan was quickly regretted.
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
Seriously want to like this place but.... isn't this a brewery? And totally into helping local but there was little kids running around wtf I thought you had to be 21+ to enter such establishments? I have kids of my own and when I go grab a beer I want to be in a place that is minus anyone under the legal drinking age. And.... This is actually my second time here and was hoping it was a one time thing but, nope, kids again.
google avatar

Rachelle E.

Yelp
Went here on a night they had a low fi DJ and it was just super chill and relaxing. They allow you to order in food, and the bartenders are kind and knowledgeable. Also, the cost of drinks is very low and affordable! And the selection? Super delicious!
google avatar

Alyse H.

Yelp
They don't even have a proper sign, yet the place has still been busy both times we stopped in. They are in the landscaping phases of the patio, but it'll be ready by the time the weather gets nicer. They'll be able to open the large garage doors and have an indoor/ outdoor taproom. We tried a flight the first time to get a feel for their beers. The Jojo saison has a nice yeasty flavor that takes me back to Europe. Sherri Dear was made with az prickly pear picked by the owners. This is growing up was a tasty hazy with mostly citra hops. When they're brewing, the taproom smells oh so good. We were told that in the future they will add food trucks, but at the moment you can bring in food or get delivered from Little O's next door. It's a solid addition to the AZ brewery scene.

Yelp
Always looking for new brew spots and heard about this one so swung by. Nice open area ( dog friendly) with a few tables and couches. Ended up sitting at the bar . ( stools have no padding at bar, lol) and ordered a beverage. Had a few beers and all were true to style ( thought fruit Weiss was a little sweet ) Have many taps available so only a matter of time for more noteworthy brews. Saw a few people bring food in and did see a few bags of chips available so plan accordingly, lol ( had a couple of high alcohol brews but did not try those ) Will be back when more brews available, should be enough for a 5th star as they are well on their way.

Yelp
Attended an event at Roses on Saturday. Sample several brewed products and found them to be excellent. A great place that deserves your support.
google avatar

Allie R.

Yelp
Great beer, fun relaxed atmosphere, board games and friendly people. You can bring in your own food or they setup ordering from little Os next door, they bring it right over! Good non alcoholic options too.
google avatar

Yelp
One of three sours on rotation. This was watermelon, there was an option to try it spicy too!
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
Happened to stumble by here and couldn't have been happier! The staff was extremely friendly and I ended up meeting the owners and they were beyond friendly and down to earth! Major plus is that their tap room is dog friendly! The beers are top notch and their new Blonde is one of the best blondes I've ever had. Highly recommend this neighborhood brewery, you won't be disappointed!!!
google avatar

Alix M.

Yelp
We are so happy we found Roses after grabbing our usual happy hour at Little O's. Super friendly staff and yummy sour and farmhouse style beer, they do live music on some nights and the place can get crowded pretty quickly so get there early. We are new to Phoenix and stumbled upon this place right when it opened and have enjoyed watching it grow into a neighborhood favorite.
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
Advertised a vegan taco festival. There was one taco truck off to the side of the building in the sun. They had no vegan option. The bartender inside didn't even know they were there. Leaving without spending a dime in here. Recommend you don't believe any of their advertising.
google avatar

Kayla T.

Yelp
New favorite brewery! I haven't tried a beer there that I didn't like--even when I have gone outside of my beer comfort zone. Love their farmhouse ales and sours! Plus, it's a laid back, fun vibe inside. Highly recommend checking it out.

Randi I.

Yelp
Stopped in around 9pm on a Friday night to find great beer, quickly delivered food from Little O next door, families and couples playing games and a super clean brewery. What's not to love?
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
This is exactly the type of brewery that Phoenix needs. It's so spacious and cutely decorated. The large space is perfect for large groups. I love that they have games and sofas which make it extra cozy! If you're an IPA fan, this is the place for you. The beer tender was sweet and informative, love to see more woman behind the bar at breweries. They even have some ciders for those with a sweeter preference. Say it ain't so, I WILL go! (Blink 182 reference)

Yelp
Loved their Hazy IPAs ... They had victim of conformity and runway in Chicago on tap. Super customer service! Can't wait to come back again!
