"On the Berkeley-Oakland border, Roses on Adeline (not to be confused with Rose Pizzeria, also in Berkeley) has opened with a small menu of bar bites and drinks. Expect things like a double smashburger, halibut ceviche, and a katsu-style fried chicken, with a few of the items (like the burger) available until midnight on the weekends (part of the menu stops being served at 9pm)." - ricky rodriguez

Night was a little off but ended up wandering into Roses' while Francisco was behind the bar and Joseph had just finished up. The caliber of drinks, food and company was exactly what I needed. Francisco was attentive and amicable, while holding town a full bar with grace. I went for the first drink on the menu some fancy gin drink that tantalized my imagination and then defied expectation in both presentation and taste, with beautiful form and an atmosphere that made me feel like i had been a regular for years. Rose's boasts tastefully original cocktails, and unpretentious but one of a kind spins on classic dishes, the burger I had stood out with strong delicious foundation, fresh ingredients, but went above and beyond a horseradish sauce that worked as an ideal compliment to the rest of the burger. Second I tried the Japanese Manhattan ( i think ) which was ideal for winding the evening down to comfortable close. This place is definitely now on my list, and should be on yours, thanks Francisco, Luis, and Joseph for transforming my night.

We are SO thrilled to have more food spots in South Berkeley, and this place is a gem. The food was delicious with generous portions. I know they're planning on expanding the menu too. The cocktails were fresh and fun with names that nodded to the Berkeley location. The service was top notch (our waitress, Lucy, used to work in fine dining). The restaurant is lovingly designed with beautiful details, fun colors, and comfy booths. We kind of ordered everything so we could sample the menu: fries, oyster mushrooms, ROA house salad, halibut ceviche, fried chicken, and Blood Orange Sherbet. For drinks we had the Bees of Berkeley (loved the honey brittle!), Adeline Spritz, and Seasonal Smash.

Google
Great for sharing, although they do also have mains. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. They have amazing cocktails and n/a non alcoholic drinks which were wonderful! Plus beers and wines and even slushies. The crispy tofu was great and the chocolate mousse was terrific. I’m so happy to have this new spot in the neighborhood, close to several bars and cafes.

Gigi B.

Google
Drinks were delicious 10/10 Staff friendliness: 10/10 Food was okay. The oyster mushrooms were grilled to perfection. The sauce was good. The tofu lettuce wraps were far TOO salty. They were encoded in salt. The rest of the flavors could not catch up.

Google
Went during happy hour and loved our cocktails and nibbles. Such a great vibe - people of all ages and backgrounds kicking back and enjoying. So glad to have this sweet, cool place in the neighborhood!

Google
Such a cute spot. They always have great cocktail options and a nice atmosphere.

Google
We had two glasses of wine and two delicious cocktails. It’s cozy and decorative. Loved what they did with an interesting place. I wish the area around it was a bit safer but this place is truly a gem. Cheers.

Google
Well.. safe to say this place gave me my second ever food poisoning. Amongst different dishes, we ordered the oyster mushrooms; first bite tasted off, the rest tasted fine. ONE was off, enough to keep me throwing up all night. Warning to check your food cause they seem to not do it as they should.

Yelp
Amazing food and service, wonderful valentines night. Katsu and rigatoni is a match made in heaven the music and vibes are immaculate!

Yolanda L.

Yelp
really cute space. I love their decor and overall vibe. Came here on a Monday night and it was not busy at all. Service was fast and friendly. I got the house salad with chicken Katsu. It was a great size and great for dinner. overall tasty salad and a good balance of flavors with the blue cheese and pears, and I liked the sweet and salty pairing with some bacon as well. Chicken Katsu was cooked well. Also tried the Japanese old-fashioned. solid. Great chic place. Great date spot too if you're looking for that.

Yelp
Met friends for dinner and we all put our orders in together. After watching everyone else finish their entire meal, my husband and my salads (salads!!) finally came out over an hour after we ordered!! Absolutely unacceptable. Cute atmosphere, but drinks weren't as exciting as their descriptions. Won't be returning here!

Yelp
How has this place been just a mile from our place and we haven't known about it? Stopped by around 9pm on a Friday when looking for a late dinner. It was full of people And buzzing with energy. Loved the money cocktail and enjoyed the smash burger. Server was really nice. It was good vibes and can't wait to come back again

Charlie A.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Thursday night and it was quite the pleasant surprise! I got the smash burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had in a while. Big Mac sauce with 2 patties, mmm pure heaven. Fries were hot and fresh. The cocktail was "Money!" Like literally! Nothing I've had anywhere else, I really like this place and will for sure be back again to try some of the other items.

Jude D.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour snacks. The five dollar fries were delicious! I also had the butternut squash soup which was delicious and filling paired with the fries.

Denzel T.

Yelp
I was on a neighborhood walk last month and discovered that I had a new neighborhood bar, so obviously I had to check it out! I went recently with a few friends and we sampled a few items from the menu. I ended grabbing a double cheeseburger with fries which was excellent. The fries were crispy and salted well while burger was juicy and filling. The staff were friendly and attentive and even gave us free jello shots towards the end of our stay! I'd also note that they have a few board games in the back if that's of interest. There was also a DJ present (we went on a Friday) and his set was solid. Good vibes, friendly staff and good food. I will be back.

Yelp
I celebrated my birthday here on Saturday night and it was awesome. Could not want more from a local bar/restaurant. The place is well designed with that hip mid-century modern vibe. Love. Weekends = live music. THey had these 2 old timey guys playing some old timey tunes, I drank, I ate, I made my husband twirl me. It was awesome. The cocktails are great. We tried every one and some better than others, but all really good and while strong, not lip puckering so. End that night with the brandy slushie, with poprocks and all. The food: it's a menu of small plates with a burger and a fried chicken sandwich. We also went down pretty much the whole menu. Everything was really good. So much thought, care and preparation went into it, and you can tell. The smash burger is fantastic, it could be one of the best in Berkeley (admittedly I don't order burgers often). It was like a bougie Big Mac and I mean that in the best sense. The mushrooms and summer squash, equally as good. So fresh. The ceviche was delightful. That chocolate budino for dessert was rich and decadent. And they have pavlova! Who has pavlova? They do. Not my favorite, as I'm team chocolate, but the table enjoyed it. Of all the dishes, I'd probably not order the meatballs again, as they were pricey and not necessarily the star of the menu. Regardless, I gush. I also got the sweetest card from the team for celebrating my bday. They do have happy hour. And again, live music every weekend with seemingly a DJ on Fridays and live music on Sat. I'm a huge fan. One of the best dining experiences I've had in the Bay in a minute. Welcome to the 'hood Rose and team! We can't wait to return. *If you don't live nearby, there is parking, but a heads up the neighborhood can come off a bit grisly. ** They inherited a liquor licence from the dive bar before them, which doesn't allow children. Womp womp. Get a babysitter!

Yelp
I stopped in to Roses for the first time this week to celebrate a career milestone. My companion and I ordered two drinks each to mark the occasion (and tasted each other's drinks): Rose Fizz = like a classic Ramos Fizz (my favorite drink) but with a very subtle rosewater note and pistachio caramel rim. The texture and alcohol ratio were good, but I found it a little less flavorful than I was expecting. The Money = a very creative blend of agave-based alcohol + dark chocolate + spice. Very very tasty, but didn't quite "wow" me. Hot Buttered Rum = Simple but excellent! Japanese Old-Fashioned = Absolutely fabulous, and worth it. Roses had a youthful yet classy and hip atmosphere, that worked for us as a date night location. We were dressed up, but jeans and tshirts would not be out of place. We didn't try the food, but we're excited to see some tasty looking items, including things that appeared to be vegetarian or vegan. The service was excellent. We had no trouble walking in on a week night without reservations.

Ryn R.

Yelp
We had a great time here and were really impressed with the food and drinks. The burger and pasta were particularly good and the drinks were honestly the highlight. The Bees of Berkeley and the Rose Fizz were a standout. Prices are reasonable for the Bay as well. The bar area is beautiful and the entire place gives off a modern I Dream of Jeannie vibe which we loved. Definitely a new stop on the list.

Gabi M.

Yelp
They cook with rice bran oil. I love a place that answers the oil question quickly! Inside is very cool/cozy, feels like a real neighborhood cafe. We did not have a res but lucked out on a table. We told our main server about a concert and she was great at not rushing us but keeping things rolling and being on it. She was also super sweet & cool. All service was great, you can tell it's a good team. Food was delish; the squash coconut soup mmmmmm, house salad is huge, and the halibut ceviche looks small but very filling & so good. Drinks were good very fun flavors. I will be back for sure. Do note: on the website it says all guest must be 21+

Angie H.

Yelp
This place is a gem. My colleagues and I ordered everything off the Happy Hour menu, a few more drinks and plates, and EVERYTHING was delicious. We went right at open on Monday the 1st and the interior is gorgeous. The way sunlight filled the room and the mix of antique and modern details was stunning. Rose was there to chat and share some special details about the space and Jennifer, the bar director, is informative and kind and fun and you really need to check it out before it's hard to get seated. And I know this might sound weird but ORDER THE BREAD AND BUTTER. Rose makes ittttttt and it's a party in your mouth. The merengue dessert has passion fruit custard or something inside??? And then the chocolate option?! With pistachios and cream on top... Some table faves were the hamachi ceviche, tofu wraps, and mushrooms.

Uday M.

Yelp
This is a nice small bar with very friendly service. Evelyn took great care of us when we stopped in on a Saturday night. The White Velvet cocktail from their Bolivian brandy special menu was excellent, and they have a handful of beers on tap as well.

William P.

Yelp
Dropped by here sometime around Christmas with one other person. The place was busy! And you could tell the staff wasn't quite expecting how busy they'd be that evening. However, they still did an amazing job and provided excellent attentive service. After ordering, our food and drinks came out in a flash. The bread and cultured butter appetizer was incredible. Seriously some of the best butter I've ever had. The smash burger was top notch, with a perfect crunchy exterior to the patty while remaining juicy and flavorful. I loved the sesame seed bun (brioche imo is overplayed) and the fries were perfectly crispy. You could tell how much thought, time, and effort went into each and every dish. This is seriously good food. I can't wait to come back and try something different.

Kerry M.

Yelp
Yummy food, good drinks and good service as well. Cute interior too! Planning to return :)

Jeff P.

Yelp
This is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The food is delicious. I know it's food from a bar, but it's not your basic bar food. The burger is especially good. They make great drinks and the service is top notch. Plus the atmosphere is very chill and comfortable. I love this place.

Nastaran A.

Yelp
Cute new spot in Berkley with a cool aesthetic. I love the dark wood, red velvet booths, the old school bar stools, and the planty vibes. We got cocktails and bites to share. The ceviche, and meatballs were definite standouts. The fries were also very tasty and cooked/seasoned perfectly. I only tried one cocktail but it was great and I am very interested in coming back to try some more!

Rose B.

Yelp
Lovely spot! Cool bar, nice decor, good vibe. Interesting, creative drink menu and the cocktails tasted great but they were weak- and we tried a few! They do have a daily happy hour which is hard to find in such an attractive setting- but watery drinks are a bummer. We tried quite a few small dishes from the menu to share. Everything was fine, but based on the reviews I had read, I expected more creative renditions of items like the cheese plate (simple but uninspired), and the crudités. Fries were great but very salty. Service was sweet but spotty on a Saturday night. Our table was rarely cleared of the empty drinks and plates. I'll try it again since they're pretty new, but I did expect more. I'll say 3.5 stars

John R.

Yelp
Great local bar with welcoming ambiance. We've been many times and always had good food and drink. Recommend the burger and the chicken sandwich. Seasonal Smash drink is very tasty. Looking forward to some updates to the menu. I'm sure they have something new coming up.

Susan B.

Yelp
Still love the ambiance and food. They were woefully understaffed last night (I believe one server for the entire place) and we never got our second round of drinks and waited 30 minutes for the check. Hopefully just a fluke.

Nerd G.

Yelp
A much needed addition to the neighborhood. We've been looking for a nice grownup place to go for ages ... walking distance a big plus ... and Rose's is a perfect fit. Not too loud, not too quiet, great food. They're working on a new liquor license that will allow them to admit under-21's (they'd inherited the existing license from the previous bar in that location) which will make even nicer. Try the smash burger, the bread and butter, and basically anything.

Mary P.

Yelp
Stopped in for their first day open after their soft opening. They're still getting all their systems ironed out, folks trained and all the things you'd expect a new restaurant to go through, but even so, the future looks bright for Roses. Interesting and delicious bar program, loved the slushies and fizz. Imaginative but accessible food menu, with a slight Levantine orientation. Surprisingly outstanding burger, I oddly expected less since it was a $20 burger but chef pulled off an excellent smash burger. All in all, am stoked they're in the neighborhood and can't wait to stop in again.

Shelly G.

Yelp
Love this spot! My cocktail was delicious and the veggie crudité and truffle fries were soooo good! Exactly what this area needs and a great spot for a night out with friends without the kiddo. Cannot wait to go back.

Jase T.

Yelp
Great drinks, delicious food and a welcoming staff. A wonderful addition to the South Berkeley neighborhood.

Joachim J.

Yelp
Nice, looking place beautiful bar. It would've been nice if the waitress gave us some smiles. We went for happy hour very limited menu. The burger was good. The fries and sweet potato fries were outstanding.

Susan Deniz T.

Yelp
I understand that you must be 21 and older to be in the establishment. It writes clearly on the door. I just wanted to do a take out order and had my baby with me. Was just going to put in my order and wait outside. It took about 5 minutes for anyone to even notice me and then I was told my child couldn't be inside. I explained I just wanted to order to go. The bartender continues to explain the license they have and told me they love kids. I walked out without saying a word. But to the bartender are you trying to convince yourself you love kids or me ? Will not be trying this spot even without kids.

P A.

Yelp
The decor is phenomal! The beautiful tiled floors and the stained glass in the center of the bar sets it off. The restaurant was extremely busy but we tables opened up fairly quickly. It's open seating so wherever you find a seat take it. The wait staff was very kind and knowledgeable. There was a mix up with the ceviche and we were informed that they were out. The owner came over, corrected the mix up, and immediately brought us the ceviche. It was my first time trying ceviche and it was so good and spicy! The smash burger is super big and with fries can easily be a meal for two. For drinks we had the Summer Sangria which was super refreshing. Overall, would I recommend it? Absolutely! Would I recommend it to a friend? Without a doubt!

R B.

Yelp
Took me by surprise. The history of this place is fascinating. The atmosphere fun, drinks strong, and delicious food.

Greg F.

Yelp
Outstanding drinks. Jen is a great bartender. Japanese Old Fashioned and The Money are excellent. Jen can make a great cocktail.

C. Michael R.

Yelp
The very best. this place is so awesome that no matter how long I would go on about it it wouldn't do it justice. Every single person on the staff is on point whether they're just working weekends or not. I had the best cocktail have ever had in my entire life called the big gulp here and look forward to having it many times again. It gave me a brain freeze that at all tells you what's up with that drink and peaks. They have a sweet atrium type thing in the back where you can chill out with your peeps away from all of the rest of the din And the staff actually comes back to check on you. I saw firsthand the manager come back and ask everybody back there if they were cool. That is so awesome and rare and today's food service industry I can't even talk about it. Go here you will see what I mean.

Autumn H.

Yelp
Went to this place for the first time during their happy hour. The food was surprisingly delicious and each item had unique flavors. The space is absolutely beautiful with rose colored Art Nouveau style. I think I found my new favorite place to get a romantic drink.

Stephen D.

Yelp
Had dinner here for the soft opening. It's beautiful! Loved the ambiance and decor. Good acoustics, wasn't hard to hear each other even though it was crowded. They have a really interesting drinks menu. The rose fizz and berkeley bee are innovative variations of classic cocktails, and ranch waters and spritzes are lower alcohol. Red wines by the glass were some of my favorites including gamay, barbera, and cabernet franc. The food is similarly diverse, with generous portions. The vodka pasta with pesto and burrata has a spicy kick. The pulled pork nachos aree substantial, good to share. Everyone loved the kofta meatballs, tender and flavorful. The fried chicken is more of a katsu-style cutlet. We had the pavlova with orange slices and lemon curd for dessert, light and delicious, not something I usually see on menus. It's great to have a new fancy place like this in the neighborhood! I'm looking forward to coming back.

Emily G.

Yelp
What a welcome spot to the neighborhood and beyond! Great ambiance - perfect combo of casual and lovely; delicious food and cocktails. Is it a bar? a Restaurant? A cocktail with delicious, substantial food? A great spot to hang out in the chairs by the window or for a group in the back? All love the above! I tried almost everything - especially loved the ceviche, asparagus, lamb/beef meatballs but really everything including burger and fries. The menu planners and cooks know what they are doing and the bartender is obviously creative and talented. Welcome and thank you Roses! Even though I live in SF I plan to visit often.

Shalin S.

Yelp
Great food drink and ambience. Fantastic service as well. Sometimes they have a live DJ

Heather S.

Yelp
This is a must-try neighborhood gem. Great vibe with wonderful food and good service. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Giselle P.

Yelp
We were seated immediately, but then we sat for 25 minutes before we acknowledged. Our drinks were good, but it took 45 minutes before we received our first appetizers. We ordered 5 dishes and it took a total of 3 hours to receive the balance of our order. Unfortunately a very bad experience.

Irene W.

Yelp
We came in with a party of six and were seated promptly. Service was great and we ended up trying nearly everything on the food menu -- everything we had was fresh, delicious, and beautiful to look at, too. My favorites were the tofu lettuce cups, house salad, the asparagus, and the chocolate budino for dessert (which may actually have been one of my fave desserts in recent memory with the mousse-like texture and candied nuts on top!). Cocktails were superb. Highly recommend the Money cocktail with the chocolate-chile rim, and the chocolate slushy.

Virginia P.

Yelp
What a fun lil gem we found bc of a news article! Happy hour was a DEAL. Summer splash cocktail is incredible, and so were the sweet potato fries and trumpet mushrooms. They also don't allow children which is a plus!

J C.

Yelp
My first time trying this place was, sadly, a huge disappointment. The bartender was rude and dismissive when asked a simple question about the food menu. I was so taken aback by the bartender's off putting response that I nearly left the establishment. My friend and I moved to a table and, thankfully, had a nice interaction with the server. Unfortunately, the sweet potato fries were charcoal and too salty and the summer squash was burnt. The fried chicken sandwich was simple for the price. I really wanted to enjoy a decent meal in a warm community environment. This wasn't that experience.

Nikki C.

Yelp
Beautiful interior design, spectacular cocktail program and all the perfect bites to pair!

Valerie D.

Yelp
Super! Amazing craft cocktails that are carefully hand crafted and delicious. They serve handmade butter that is simply amazing. The owners and bartender give great service. Highly recommend!

Ward W.

Yelp
Great environment, excellent food and drinks. We made a reservation but nobody checked it and it didn't seem to matter as we were seated immediately. Service was, unfortunately, inconsistent and a bit of a let down, as not every server was being proactive about watching the floor, so we had to struggle to get attention, silverware, etc. Assume these are just teething pains and things will improve after they have run for a while. All in all it's an excellent venue with a friendly neighborhood vibe.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Roses is a great neighborhood restaurant and bar. I've been there a few times over the summer and have been consistently happy with the cocktails and the food. (I particularly love The Bees Knees and now it comes with a house-made honey brittle, which was delicious!) Yesterday we had the tofu cups, patatas bravas, and ceviche, and loved it all. So glad Roses is in the neighborhood!

Barbara V.

Yelp
When you walk into the door at Roses on Adeline you are immediately uplifted by the visual interior. Stepping out of the busyness of Berkeley into a restaurant there to provide you with comfort. The food is delicious satiating your taste buds with satisfaction. The drink menu unending in delicious choices. I highly recommend an evening at Roses.

Chloe A.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! The staff were so friendly and kind. We got great recommendations, including the seasonal smash -- which is maybe my new favorite cocktail. All the food we got (bread & butter, patatas bravas, ROA salad, and rigatoni) was delicious. My favorite was definitely the patatas bravas. The vibe was great. Beautiful decor and nice set up of the space. Lots of cute little places. I will definitely be coming back.

Mary M.

Yelp
Atmosphere, nice. Food not that great, drinks were good. Service ok Noisy Location good

Beth S.

Yelp
A neighborhood spot that's worth a drive! Elegantly casual, super chill vibe, yummy food, very creative cocktail menu, sweet staff. There was a groovy jazz two-piece playing when we went; not sure how often they have live music. Can't wait to go back.

Lynda T.

Yelp
An all around delightful experience. Ambience spectacular with interesting design choices. Food choices for all tastes. Summer squash with lemon ricotta delicious and best sweet potato fries ever. tutu lettuce wraps a surprise. All sauces magic. Leisurely pace of bar kitchen gives diners and drinkers time to talk and eat. Will be back many times for pleasurable experience.

Gema M.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the sweet potato fries with chipotle aoli and the ceviche as appetizers. Marvelous, difficult to not gobble it all up! The workers were kind and thorough even under the pressure of a lively environment. I plan on coming back!
