Under-the-Radar New Restaurants to Check Out in Los Angeles - Eater LA

"Northeast LA’s newest all-day restaurant is Rosseth. Find espresso drinks and breakfast platters in the morning, including chicken and waffles, buttermilk pancakes, and Oaxaca mole chilaquiles with two fried eggs. Chicken tinga tostones, grass-fed burgers, and short rib mole burritos are a few of the lunchtime specialties. The chicken poblano pappardelle makes an appearance at dinner, while cocktails are served all day." - Cathy Chaplin

There's a charming new spot in my neighborhood at Fig and Ave 50—a delightful mom-and-pop restaurant that serves up some truly delicious dishes. Their desserts are mouthwatering, and they offer high-quality coffee sourced from just over the hill in Eagle Rock. I've enjoyed both their lunch and dinner options, and I can't wait to try their breakfast; the menu looks fantastic! If you’re in Highland Park or nearby, this is a must-visit place!

We have now been here twice. We were excited to try this new mom and pop restaurant out in Highland Park and it was amazing. First time we went was for lunch on a Sunday. They had a drink special going on that day too. We just went for the food though and it was so yummy! Today we went for dinner and again they didn’t disappoint in the food category. Everything was delicious and flavorful. We can’t wait to go back!

Really enjoyed our time here for lunch on a Monday afternoon. The staff was so friendly and attentive. We tried their burgers which were delicious and we also tried their in house berry donut which was so tasty, a perfect little sweetness after our lunch. I especially loved that they let me get a fruit cup as a side! Fresh good fruit. They also have booze here including specialty cocktails, always a plus. Highly recommend if you are in the area in need of a tasty meal! Next time we are here I'm gonna give those chicken and waffles à try! Looks delicious.

Google
Great new find in Highland Park for Brunch and Lunch with Oaxacan / Guatemalan flavors. The food is great, simple but beautifully presented. They make their own artisanal breads. Cafe de Olla is spot on. Chilauqiles Rancheros with Asada is superb. Quality ingredients. Superb service. Really nice staff. Ambiance is beautiful. Used to be Occidental College which evolved into a Car Dealership then Garage. Lots of history. Beautiful addition to the HP neighborhood. Loving this place!

Google
Beautiful corner location. The cocktails were delicious! I order the fish of the day which was the salmon. Cooked beautifully and the sauce was my favorite part. I highly recommend for groups or anyone looking for a aesthetically peaceful experience for dinner

The vibes here are VIBING! We will definitely be back to try breakfast. We arrived about an hour before close and were seated outside by a lovely water fountain they have. Staff was very welcoming and gave great recommendations. We started with the croquettes and they were so so good! We wanted another order but didn’t want to ruin our appetites. Seriously still thinking about the perfect crunch, flavors, sauce, MUST TRY APP! It comes with 3 so me and my guests each got one. My nephew had the Mole short rib which was cooked perfectly and has plenty of delicious sauce. This was a recommendation and it didn’t disappoint! My friend had the Salmon which was cooked to perfection. I ordered the Chicken Poblano which I would describe as an elevated knorr side. This was a comfort food item it was good but like house food good. I’m still giving 5 stars for food bc my nephew and friend kept eating it, so it was tasty. I like the flat noodles but I didn’t like the chicken it was dry and pulled apart that’s what gives it a house food vibe. Dry pulled chicken gives house food to me and so I wouldn’t order it again for me but my nephew loved it. I think it needs dark meat or grilled chicken on top not pulled apart chicken mixed in. This dish also needed so much seasoning I had to use a lot of salt it was very bland as well. With a change in the chicken and better seasoning this dish would be fire. Based off this pasta I probably wouldn’t order another pasta here. I’m also giving 5 stars bc they are new and asking for feedback which makes me feel seen and heard. This is a great new addition to the neighborhood with lovely staff and management that go above and beyond! The drinks were lovely as well! Great cocktails and mocktails!

Google
I love this little neighborhood place. It has a lovely ambience, relaxing music, attentive service and delicious food with several curated and nicely prepared options. Short but solid beer and wine list. Highly recommend.

Google
Overall the food and service were good, but there were a few hiccups with ordering. The plates on the lunch menu didn’t have prices so the waiter had to read them out to us and they weren’t able to prepare the sandwich I ordered. It’s understandable given the place just opened this week, but I see the potential in Rosseth.

Yelp
Loved hitting this place for breakfast. The vibe inside is so nice with the sun filled room and flower decor on the tables. Great menu of breakfast regulars but done with such amazing flavor and presentation - I really loved the food. Super friendly staff that were equally attentive and helpful.

Yelp
Cute new social spot in the area. Every detail was well thought of - from the table setting to how they have their pastries displayed - pleasing to the eye. I ordered the huevos ranchero - it was light and tasty. Left me with enough space to scarf down one of the best cream puffs ever! Service was warm and welcoming - felt right at ease as soon as we walked in. There is also outdoor seating if you want to bring your furbaby. Parking is street, which can be challenging but what is a few blocks to up your hunger and then burn those calories!

Yelp
Went for breakfast, what a lovely spot. The huevos rancheros was exceptional, as was the mole chilaquiles. Service was friendly and fast. And the space is bright and airy, windows all around. Very happy to see Rosseth move into the neighborhood!

Yelp
Rosseth is fairly new to the area. At first glance it looks like a coffee shop but it's actually a charming little restaurant serving Breakfast, lunch, & dinner. They even have wine, beer, & low proof cocktails. I stopped in on a Sunday morning to try their signature Café de Olla, which is also available as a latte. The man behind the counter was very nice. As I waited for my beverage, I browsed the menu to make a mental note of what I wanted to come back and try. The Café de Olla did not disappoint. It was nicely balanced with delicate notes of cinnamon. I'm sure it would be even yummier as a latte. I came back a few weeks later with a friend for lunch. Ricky greeted us and showed us to our table. Isabel took out order and was an absolute doll. We shared the Morning Salad, and I ordered a Cocktail - Highland Park 2 Paris. It was very tasty & refreshing. The salad was delicious - a mixture of Arugula, cherry tomatoes, roasted beets, feta cheese, shallots, roasted sunflower seeds, toasted Farro, tossed in a citrus vinaigrette and topped with a sunny side up egg. Ricky was very attentive to the customers, so I asked him if he was the owner. He told me this place is family owned and the man that just left with his wife & daughter was the owner. He is from Jalisco, Mexico. My friend and I had a wonderful dining experience. This family-owned business is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, and I'm happy to support it. *Street parking can be tricky depending on the time of day.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I met here for a lunch date during the week. We are always open to new restaurants and are excited to try their food. When we first arrived, it was empty. Soon after, more customers started walking in. We were welcomed, informed about their coffee bar, and seated. I ordered the Chilaquiles Rancheros with Asada 9/10! I also had two mimosas, passionfruit and mango. Mango was my favorite! My boyfriend ordered the Oaxaca Mole Chilaquiles with Chicken. The mole was perfect! I had the chance to try it with tortilla chips before our food was served. I did not get a chance to get the name of the employee who was so wonderful. He checked on us frequently and made sure we were good. We enjoy date nights in the Highland Park area; there's always something to do. We would return for a dinner date. :)

Yelp
Cute new restaurant. Came for dinner before the USC game. Very clean and inviting restaurant. Decor is minimal. Felt very home-y and calming. Walked in to the counter, nice girl told us to sit anywhere, brought us menus (dinner and drink) and offered us water right away. We each ordered a drink: hubby got a beer (he was VERY pleased at how cold the beer was), I ordered a compassion please. I will always try any item with passion fruit, this drink had good flavor and was presented like a high end bar.... Impressive! Decided to share the chicken tinga tostones and after a in the moment decision with the waitress (debated between the milanesa and the burger and fries), her comment of 'you can get a burger anywhere & we can get you a side of fries' my husband made the final decision of milanesa with a side of fries. I don't know where to start.... The flavor of the food, the HUGE portion of fries or the deliciousness of the dill ranch (please bottle this and sell it!). The amount of chicken on the tostones was surprising. A bit messy but well worth it! The crunch and juiciness of the milanesa was .... Idk what to say except AMAZING! And the HUGE bowl of perfectly crunchy fries with that dill ranch... WOW!!!! Will we return? Yes! I've seen the breakfast menu.... We will need to come back before an early SC game to try some of it!

Yelp
Rosseth was a journey that I was excited to try, but was met with some lukewarm food options. The place is airy, a bit over lit with little to no ambiance. Let's talk eats: Corn/edame/ esquires- was just exactly what you expect, no twist to this appetizer. Nothing to see here folks let's move on. Mole Short Ribs - the plate was lukewarm at best, it was a few mins from being cold leftovers. The taste was interesting but garnish with 3 raw onions, 2 overcooked asparagus and baby carrots. Insert heart break.. short meh ribs. The pasta - over cooked pasted, that tasted like chilaquiles salsa with pasta. I tried to like it, but alas this wasn't it. Wish them the best, but .. it's a no for me dawg. (Insert Randy Jackson Voice)

Yelp
Came here for Saturday dinner as I had seen this place open up recently. Tried most of their "shareable" offerings. My fav of the evening had to be the pork belly tacos. Followed by the chicken tinga tostones which were a close second. The fried chicken sandwich was yummy as well. The croquettes were crunchy and filled with cheesy goodness. The esquite and edamame were fresh, zesty and the cheese simply glued the dish together. The service was efficient, considerate and friendly. The place is new, clean with a casual vibe. Will come back to try some other of their dishes...

Yelp
The food is as good as it looks. The ambience is cute. It's small and we went for an early dinner so we were the only diners at the time. The service was exceptional!!! Hard to pick our favorite plate. All the flavors were so intense and both the short ribs and chicken were tender. I had their cafe de olla latte iced with oat milk and it was so good. They have wine based cocktails (waiting on hard liquor license) that sound great- we didn't try any. We're definitely going back for breakfast or brunch soon.

Yelp
Been here twice already, the first time was for lunch and it was amazing! So we made plans to come back, but this time for dinner. And Rosseth did NOT disappoint! Service was great as last time and the space was clean and roomy. But again the food OMG delicious!! Can't wait to go back the this cute mom and pop in Highland Park again.

Yelp
Great Food and Coffee Very Friendly and attentive service Down home vibe and charming atmosphere

Michael A.

Yelp
I hate to downgrade this, but my gf and I had a bad experience having breakfast here in the first sit down trip to Rosseth. The prices are incredibly high for what you get and was treated rudely by a gentleman I believe was the owner. Will probably be back for coffee, but we are one-and-done with the dine in.
google avatar

Yelp
Great new breakfast/brunch spot! Food tastes great and they care about presentation. We ordered the matcha lavender latte, fresh squeezed orange juice, chilaquiles, and the house breakfast. Service is excellent, they are all so nice and kept checking to see if everything came out ok. Will add this to our restaurant rotation, and need to come back and try dinner next. Support local business!
google avatar

Nicole V.

Yelp
Coffee is tasty; they do have oat milk you can add to any of the coffee drinks. Sadly, I wish they had more vegan options for food so I could eat a full meal here! The majority of places in the neighborhood do offer vegan options, even if they don't offer a fully vegan menu (like Mason's, Burgerlords, Town, etc). It's a bummer because this location is convenient and somewhere I could see myself visiting often. It would be amazing if they did breakfast omelets with Just Egg, mole with tofu or a vegan protein, etc.
google avatar

Natalie M.

Yelp
really really cute new little space in Highland Park! everyone is so kind, there's outdoor seating, and the COFFEE is unreal! try the cafe de olla latte, I promise (PS ask about their other drinks, they have 2 different menu layouts so the offerings kind of vary depending on time of day)

Yelp
This place is my new favorite neighborhood spot! I've been twice now--once for brunch and the other time for dinner--and the food has been excellent both times. The ambiance is such a vibe with a sun drenched dining area and a homey, welcoming design. I also love that it's family owned. I love it so much. Can't wait to come back again!
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this place right behind USC medical county. Service was great really nice guy. Simple menu and delicious. The patio was calming and the vibe was relaxing. My shrimp tacos were fried perfectly and the shrimp mixture was fresh and delicious. Perfect spice. Paired it with a cold beer nice end to my day. Will come again.

Yelp
Really awesome cheeseburgers and oh the sangria. The sangria flows like, well sangria. Super nice staff and lovely ambiance.

Yelp
Demaris & Martin strike again! I've been a fan since they opened Miracle Bakery in Burbank, so had to try Rosseth. Had my favorite almond croissant, plus the mole short rib burrito and strawberry basil lemonade vodka (not pictured). Best almond croissant in LA/OC. The mole is a family recipe, just how I like it - not too sweet. Ricky blended a very refreshing cocktail (I didn't realize it was alcoholic) and service was very attentive at 2pm on Friday. The high ceiling and large windows really open up the small cafe. Pictured is the cute repurposed flower stand. Looking forward to trying the dinner menu next!

Yelp
What a cute place! I ordered the cinnamon french toast and it was delicious. I ate all of it in record time. They do accept reservations, but when we came by it wasn't too busy. I also got the vanilla latte which was great. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
If you're looking for a cozy spot with a well-thought-out menu, this new eatery is a gem. The dinner menu is impressive, with highlights like the short rib mole, which is perfectly balanced and flavorful, paired with roasted rainbow carrots. The potato leek croquette is a rich delight, complemented by a bright marinara that cuts through the richness. The chicken pappardelle in poblano cream sauce is another standout. We started with the roasted corn esquite, which was the perfect appetizer to set the tone for the meal. The ambiance is clean and comfortable, making it a great place to relax and enjoy your meal. Parking can be tricky at night, but the exceptional service and delicious food more than make up for it. We'll definitely be returning to explore more of the menu!
google avatar

Christina K.

Yelp
First time here at Rosseth. My breakfast was basic, but yummy. I had soft scrambled eggs, toast and turkey sausage. I substituted fresh fruit instead of the potatoes. My latte was delicious. The service was superb. I'll be back.

Yelp
One of the best Sangria's I've ever had and the breakfast was cooked to perfection! Ordered a side of berries and every piece of fruit was fresh and sweet. Really nice ambiance with lots of natural light. The staff was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Even grabbed a couple pastries to go. Can't wait to come back for Dinner!

Yelp
Are you permanently closed??? I keep calling and there's no answers. Sign of FOR LEASE posted on window

Yelp
Awesome experience from start to finish, the service is amazing. I love their Signature Cafe de Olla latte, Also how the chef comes out to your table and makes sure you are enjoying the food. Everyone is friendly and professional.
google avatar

Yelp
I finally found the time to try out Rosette restaurant and for some reason it was closed despite the open hours listed on their venue information. There's a lease sign outside. I can only speculate this place is no longer in service, but I shall try again during the day since I came for dinner.
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
Yesterday I went into the business and was really shocked about how amazing the coffee was, and for it being as affordable as it was, it's no surprise in Highland Park, coffee can be very expensive. I love my iced lattes and everywhere else they charge 7-9 dollars a latte and here it's only 5.50. I'm coming back on a daily basis at this point.
google avatar

Jessie C.

Yelp
Food was ok but to brag bout to be honest .. maybe cus it was just so hot outside even if we ate inside not try much of a wine selection didn't like the only white they had sorry
google avatar

Father Teressa T.

Yelp
I'm amazed this place hasn't blown up yet to the point where it's hard to get a reservation. We loved the whole experience, from the service to the food. Will definitely be back (and look forward to trivia nights, which I've heard is in the cards)
google avatar

Yelp
I came here for breakfast. It was terrific. I had the breakfast burrito. Very tasty and not heavy. Came with a generous side of fresh, ripe food. The staff is very nice. Will be coming here regularly.
google avatar

Ernie M.

Yelp
Upon entrance to this establishment, the staff was very warm welcoming. The owner present himself and even interacts with other customers asking if everything is okay or if they have another recommendations or concerns. The food, vibe and teamwork of this place are the reason why this place is work visiting time and time again.
google avatar

Javier M.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to visit this new restaurant in Highland Park for dinner last night. What a gem! The owners really care for the quality of their food and the perfection of their craft. The ambiance was beautiful, but most importantly the food quality, atmosphere, and comfortability was top notch. I highly recommend the Burger as it has been probably the best "restaurant burger" I've had in a while. If you are looking for a new Vibe and a new place to try out, this would be it.
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Awesome service and great food. The Aperol Spritzes are sososo delicious. The team is so nice and generous every time we come in - I love that Rosseth opened in my work neighborhood!
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
Really lovely place. Came for dinner; I made a mistake in the way I ordered my burger and even though it was my error, they took it back and fixed it right away. Not only that, but it tasted amazing. Service was great atmosphere was great. Definitely a new favorite spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this local spot for brunch. Service was sooooo on point and the food was delish. Three of us went, we all ordered something different recommended by our server and ate family style. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing. Great atmosphere, and excellent service. Dessert by Rosseth herself was delicious, we will be back! Can't wait to try their breakfast.

Yelp
I love the food and service and the burger is so good I can't wait to go back there to eat

Kirk S.

Yelp
Delicious first visit! We had breakfast- chilaquiles and potatoes were great. Good coffee too. Very nice owners and staff. Beautiful view of Highland park. I must single out their chocolate and strawberry donut. It's vegan and gluten-free and I'm still declaring it amazing.

Jocelyn D.

Yelp
no. Please save ur money. The atmosphere is very off putting. I rather eat somewhere else.

Joceline B.

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch and it was all delicious. I tried the house breakfast and that plate was clean when I was done. The Cafe de olla latte was delicious and they had oat and almond milk options which was great as someone who is lactose intolerant. The service was amazing, the nicest people are working here. The ambiance is also nice! Definitely will be back!

Christian M.

Yelp
Wow, such an amazing and beautiful location hidden away is a gem that shines beyond light. I stopped in for cold brew coffee, and it was amazing. The person at the counter was so knowledgeable and also recommended me some items. The ambience is quiet and relaxing, and the food looked amazing thank you for recommending this place to me Danny. I really appreciate it.

Craig h.

Yelp
Great local restaurant. Good service. Good food. Good outdoor seating. Will be going back.

Connie Martin R.

Yelp
I highly recommend this new addition to the Highland Park culinary scene, on Figueroa Boulevard. My wife and I dined there to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The kitchen made the homemade pasta dish with mushrooms and veggies instead of chicken for my vegetarian wife. The parppadelle noodles were the silky smooth real deal and the poblano chile sauce perfectly blended Italian and Mexican flavor profiles. I ordered wild-caught Mahi Mahi, which was served with house-made dill sauce and fingerling potatoes. We split house greens (arugula) and two glasses of white wine; the Chardonnay was particularly lovely. For dessert we ordered seasonal pumpkin cheesecake was the perfect texture (I prefer it less thick & dense), with a thin layer of chocolate cake in lieu of the traditional crust, topped with fresh whipped cream. Our server, Isabel, was very amiable and attentive (she works Saturdays), and Ricky's wine suggestions were sommelier-caliber. We will definitely come back so I can order the short-rib mole (we sampled the mole, which had a nice aftertaste of mild heat), and the fried chicken sandwich. They're also open for breakfast and they have a Thursday trivia night. In short, come support a local gourmet-casual spot owned by Marta Mexican-born restauranteur.

Ana V.

Yelp
Food is delicious and service is amazing highly recommended! Warm ambiance definitely will return!

Yelp
small, sweet, good service and tasty food. a great place to stop if you're in the neighborhood.

leong t.

Yelp
went there this a m. small sign on door: the place is CLOSED. no date given for reopening so it's likely done.

Apollo S.

Yelp
If you asked AI to create a cookie cutter coffee slash brunch spot accessible to folks with no sense of style in a gentrified neighborhood, is this what it would look like? Is this the same menu as every other brunch place in LA? Boring? I guess this place is for you if you like retail ambiance and live within walking distance to try once. Otherwise, I don't see anything special about a menu designed as though you're at a mid level hotel. Curious if places like this plan on folding to collect a tax right off or something. Why open a restaurant if there is no personal character? Do they have a website? Sad!

Dylan J.

Yelp
Service was great, everyone was very nice and checked up on us regularly. Mole on the chilaquiles was delicious. Dirty chai latte was great as well.
