"Rouge Tomate, a Michelin-starred Chelsea restaurant, is the subject of a lawsuit filed by former employees who allege wage theft, unpaid overtime, and other labor violations. The restaurant, which closed its doors last month, is accused of using deceptive payroll practices to underpay staff. The ownership denies these claims, stating they have always adhered to correct employment and pay practices. Despite these legal issues, there are plans to revive Rouge Tomate in its original format on the Upper East Side." - Carla Vianna

A nice and huge place. I sat at the chef’s counter table and tried the tasting menu. My favorite is the uni with rutabaga and grapefruit, so simple, and so delicious. The mushroom tartar is also good too, it’s well seasoned and balanced. It’s one of my favorite mushroom dish. Really wanted to know its recipe. Not a big fan of the two main dish: Halibut and Duck. I guess it’s because the main ingredients weren’t mix well with other ingredients on the plate. They all had interesting taste but when I eating them together, the taste was not cohesive. However, I still recommend everyone to try it. They change their menu seasonally. 😊

TL;DR -definitely recommend for restaurant week!! -Fresh and light while still having bold flavors. Loved it! -affordable compared to many other michelin star restaurants! Went here for restaurant week with a few friends and really loved it! Definitely can understand why it has a michelin star rating. Not only was it fairly affordable for fine dining, I think what stands out most about this place is bold flavors, lightness and uniqueness of combinations. Rouge Tomate uses a lot of really 'fresh' flavors that aren't overly heavy, and I came out of the meal feeling just perfect! I think of this experience similarly to the way I feel about omakase: the experience of the food was incredible as the flavors complemented each other well, while just staying light.

Everything about this place is great! The food was mouthwatering, the decor is modern and tasteful, and our waitress Caroline was super knowledgeable and sweet. I love when restaurants have a cool and casual vibe while serving refined / upscale food!

Really great salads; had the chopped salad w salmon and my wife had the kale salad w salmon, both were fresh, well presented (sorry we should have shot the picture first but we were so hungry). Worth a picture though, great service , price reasonable and location is great. Made our short list.

Tasty food and a great atmosphere... It's very pricey but a good spot for a land back business dinner(the reason I was there).

Inventive, healthy, and beautifully presented. The space is gorgeous, the staff is on-point, and the wine list is cray-cray.

Super delicious, creative dishes. Small portions, high price, but worth it for a special occasion. The wine menu is actually a book organized by all the countries the wine comes from. The wine manager told us the story about the farm where our wine came from. It was nice that they kept the wine chilled for us, but I didn’t like how they kept filling my wine up before I finished the glass, so I couldn’t tell how much I was drinking. Also, we came in wearing casual clothes and felt uncomfortably underdressed.

A bit pretentious and precious but the quality of the food is excellent and the focus on fresh produce makes it a very friendly place to vegetarians and vegans. The dining room is very pretty and comfortable, too, and if you can't get a table you can sit at one of the high tops in the front and eat there. Had to laugh when diners next to us got a bit of a lecture from waitstaff about how special the bread and butter are, apparently that's why it took so long to get it brought to the table (you have to ask for it).
