The 17 Best Restaurants In Sun Valley

"Roundhouse is where your friends who don't actually ski will be hanging out, three martinis deep by the time you get off the lift. Located halfway up Bald Mountain at a cool 7,700 feet, the Roundhouse is only accessible by chairlift or skis. Assuming you have a reservation or are willing to wait, you can dine by the fire in this Austrian-inspired chalet, built in 1939, while enjoying views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Go for the famous fondue, which comes in small blue cast-iron pots with all kinds of dipping options, like bread, potatoes, grapes, sausage, and apples. The truffle fries, lobster rolls, and Cubano sandwiches are also solid. " - hayden seder

We ate lunch here on Sunday when we were skiing. We had a reservation, but it still took us some time to get seated we first started with some truffle french fries, they were very good, but they were very strong on the truffle. we then got served our fondue, which came with 3 times less the amount of cheese than my expectations it was delicious, and the cheese was great. On the downside, they gave us grapes and apples with our fondues, which was unexpected. We then got tea and the cups were not even clean the bottom part of the cup was not cleaned and overall it was not a great experience way overpriced for portions 2.5/5

Google
Had an excellent experience here! Definitely more of a tourist attraction but worth it. The food was amazing. Our waiter Terry was great. He recommended an excellent spread and was knowledgeable about everything. Highly recommend visiting here!

Google
when you pay this amount of $, you expect everything to be perfect... was far from being the case. portions of fondue are mega small, they come with grapes, apple, pickles and bread (bread being the only thing that "belongs" in a fondue). I come from Switzerland, and over there we cut all the crap that is cheap and doesn't fill you up.. just give us enough cheese to fill you up so you don't feel ripped off. the supper veggie salad for 25$ is nothing but green salad, the dishes are not clean properly.... and cherry on top, the don't offer any dessert. not my best pick for sun valley.

Google
We had a very enjoyable experience at the Round House. The staff was efficient, and the view as we relaxed on the deck was worth what we paid for our lunch. The food in general was perhaps not quite up to the price point, the lemonade, for example, was not very flavorful for this lemonade lover, but I have to say the truffle fries were worth every penny!

Google
We had lunch here on the 3rd. We ordered summer Gazpacho and watermelon caprese. Great food and great service. Glad we were here to explore the mountain and had late lunch. Our server Natalie was great! Definitely will come back in winter!

O Tarlow

Google
Easily the most classic restaurant on the mountain. With epic 360 degree views and a history that's beyond compare dating back to the beginning of the resort it's no surprise we had a wonderful time during our stay. Food, drinks, and service are top notch too!

T Henning

Google
Best view in town and they have food and cold ones. The food was good, and the drinks were cold. They recommended reservations, probably so you didn't get there and be disappointed, but we didn't need them. A great place to get some courage before you sit on the chair lift and go to the top.

Karen Hoffman

Google
Talk about the greatest seat in the house! It was breathtaking sitting out on the patio and the food was just as spectacular! Make sure you call ahead for reservations... although I think you may get in still, it's a gamble. And they close by 3, I think because the gondola stops running by 4.
google avatar

Kelley L.

Yelp
Terry was a great server and the food and view were so awesome. Our girls loved the ride up on the gondola.

Yelp
Best ski lunch. Do yourself a favor and make reservations for lunch. Lobster roll was amazing. Experience and views are top notch

Yelp
I didn't have high expectations for a restaurant at the top of the mountain but I was absolutely wrong. The Roundhouse was delicious and the staff were nice and attentive (shoutout to Karen!) Overpriced but honestly much less expensive than I expected and the portion sizes were large. The Mountain Mule and Spicy Pineapple Margarita were tasty and had the right amount of alcohol. On top of that, the views were incredible. This is a must visit in Sun Valley. They take reservations!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome server, cool location, and ambiance. However the food was cold and the drinks were weak from the bartender. I would have expected better. It's been 5 or so years since my last visit. But it was the same from the kitchen. You can do better SV Company.
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
Amazing service and Josh is the best!! Food (lamb burgers) and espresso Martini were fantastic. The staff were so friendly and attentive. Highly recommend stopping by for a drink or dinner!

Armando T.

Yelp
Definitely a fun spot to sit and enjoy the snow, outdoors, and in a really cool historic building. Highly recommend having a visit to Ketchum or Sun Valley.

Yelp
An institution on the mountain for over 50 years. Atop Bald mountain with spectacular views of all the mountain ranges around us. The inside of the roundhouse is magical. See the photos below. Great cocktails and delicious food with amazing service. You can ride the gondola up even if you don't ski or stop in while on the slopes. Don't miss it.

Yelp
We went to The Roundhouse before our dinner reservation, and it was a lovely experience. The bar has a casual yet upscale vibe with outdoor seating, cozy fire pits, and beautiful views, making it the perfect spot to enjoy drinks. The live piano music in the background added a wonderful touch to the atmosphere, and the drinks were crafted to perfection--absolutely delicious!

Yelp
Booked through OpenTable for a reservation about a month in advance for lunch. I think you can come without a reservation if you get here right when they open. My boyfriend and I were skiing so we did not need to purchase a gondola ticket up. For the rest of our party, I believe the ticket was around $20. Which can be bought at the River Run ticket office. Our reservation was at 11am, but they didn't open doors until 11:05am. They also couldn't open their door lol. Service was ok. They didn't seem to be too organized. Food was good, fresh, but not out of this world. I did enjoy the fondue, but I felt that the fondue was a little bit low. The grilled beef was really tender and I liked the fruits that accompanied the fondue. They had a vegan salad for my bf's mom and she thought it was pretty good. Burgers seemed good, but not amazing. Restrooms clearly wasn't prepared for opening..had to change the toilet paper roll at 11am. The ambiance is very nice, warm and cozy, with real fireplaces. Too bad it was super snowy! We couldn't see the view :( Once you get in the restaurant, then you will understand why it is called Roundhouse!

Yelp
The food and atmosphere was great! We ordered the Smorgasbord, Winter Greens, SRF Wagyu Burger, and Harriman's Croque Monsieur. All of the food was wonderful and the drink menu perfect. Our waiter, Terry, was awesome and took care of us. When you're finished dining inside head out to the patio for a drink in the sun with the lunchtime après crowd.

Yelp
Working in SV, from Oklahoma City, since mid October. What a beautiful, grateful experience I have had. Forgive me, as I dug into my food before taking a photo. I had the Gravlox and winter vegetable bisque. All were to die for! I also partook in the house Cab, Brut Rose, and Irish coffee. David, whom I believe to be the GM or owner, was so kind to me with conversation. He also took pictures for me around the restaurant. Such a warm place to be, with the BEST views. Be sure and make reservations weeks in advance! You will take the Roundhouse Express Gondola up. $40 for the round trip. Take your time and enjoy the lodge, before or after.

Yelp
The best meal we had all week! We were looking for a nice dinner to celebrate our last night in town. We took a gondola from river run up to the roundhouse under the cover of starlight which was truly magical. While we waited for our table we grabbed cocktails from the bar. The bartender personable and entertained us with stories and gave us local recommendations while we sipped our drinks. Once seated we ordered off the set 4 course menu. 1st Charcuterie, 2nd potato pottage, 3rd lamb shank, 4th a chocolate dish. Honestly, I was in a food coma by dessert, I don't remember it. The pottage and shank were amazing and extremely reasonably priced especially since we were at a ski resort on the top of a mountain. Highly recommend eating here for the exclamation point to your trip!

Yelp
Cool spot, but I wouldn't say better than Seattle ridge lodge. We just wanted to experience the fondue and it was yummy but so overpriced for what it is.
google avatar

Julian O.

Yelp
Beautiful views, overpriced, mediocre food. $27 hamburger and $3 up charge for fries. Plus you pay for the gondola. We came in summer before going mountain biking and had a reservation. We waited 45 minutes for our food and I had to ask 3 people for my cappuccino, which didn't come until well into my meal. Everyone around us in larger groups--who looked over-dressed for actual mountain activities, more there to be seen--got served right away. The big groups also got prioritized for the tables with the better views. I might come again for a drink but not for anything else.
google avatar

Yelp
Nothing says après ski quite like a cauldron of cheesy fondue at a high elevation. At only slightly lower of an elevation are Round House's prices. Our party of three ordered fondue with a bratwurst ad on along with a salad, truffle fries, and artichoke soup. This was plenty of food for us. The truffle fries were bomb.com. I will most likely overdose on potato by the time I leave Idaho. However, I was surprised to find a piece of crab in my artichoke soup as it was not included in the menu description. I'm all about crab but it also would have been nice to include that detail given that some folks have seafood allergies. The staff are incredibly friendly and the restaurant is enforcing mask wearing. Be sure to book early. While awaiting my dining companions I heard the host turn down no less than five inquiring parties. Side note: I am v curious to find out how they lugged an industrial kitchen and entire restaurant up this mountain.

Yelp
Great food service and views . Liked sitting at bar to eat for lunch but if you want a seat get there when they open at 11 otherwise can sit and eat in lounge chairs in bar area if you don't have a reservation
google avatar

Ellen D.

Yelp
What a fun experience to stop for lunch while skiing and a great view. Two great bars. Make sure you make a reservation. Our food was very good. Four of us had lunch and I had the salmon sandwich with a side of slaw. Others got the elk meatballs and smoked salmon appetizer. Our service was very slow due to it being so busy.

Yelp
We took the gondola up to the roundhouse restaurant. It's $20 if you don't have a lift ticket . The ride is beautiful. We got seated right away. Nice professional waiter. The chicken Caesar salad was good. The view is spectacular. Take a self tour of the restaurant. There's history.

Yelp
Boarding at Sun Valley for a few days and was told by a few locals this was the must eat location on the mountain since it was built in the 1950s and has lots of old pictures from the early years. They have 3 different seating areas: the bar, main dining area and downstairs bar. The downstairs bar is super cute with beautiful views of the mountain. If you show up a little before noon it's not busy but around 12:30, it filled quickly and there were no seats left. I had the turkey sandwich with their kale salad. The kale salad was supposed to have quinoa with it but there was none...The turkey is freshly roasted then sliced and the sandwich tasted good. If you're in the mood, you can even have fondue! It's a great place to take a break and have a nice meal between boarding or skiing.

Chuck T.

Yelp
The Roundhouse always delivers. The classic vintage building may be stuck in time, but the ambience is always upbeat and festive. Start with a drink out on the deck, and then move inside for a white tablecloth lunch.
google avatar

Jeffery G.

Yelp
We dined here at noon during one of our ski days. I totally recommend it, as the food selection, taste, and service were all very good. Also, it's not really out of line from a cost standpoint compared with the other options on the mountain. Truly an iconic restaurant that shouldn't be missed!
google avatar

Brenna T.

Yelp
It's not cheap, but you pay for the experience, and more specifically the view. I definitely recommend stopping by in the summer or the winter! The fondue is divine.
google avatar

Yelp
The view this restaurant offers is second to none! Conveniently located half way up the mountain, The Roundhouse is a great place to stop to rest while taking in all the view has to offer! During my experience here, my group and I chose to stop here on our way back down the mountain. We ordered an appetizer and some drinks and chose to sit on the outdoor patio that overlooks the city below. The chicken fajita quesadilla is a great choice if you are looking for a light appetizer. When it comes to drinks, I absolutely recommend the Sun Valley Margarita; it is truly one of the bests I have had!! However, The Roundhouse offers a wide selection of beers, wines, and cocktails to choose from. The employees at The Roundhouse are very welcoming and do a great job attending to their guests. I was very impressed with the hospitality provided during our visit. Again, I highly recommend this experience if you are in the Sun Valley/Ketchum, ID area!

Yelp
Ever wanted to experience dining in the Swiss Alps? Well if you can't get to Switzerland, Bald Mountain in Ketchum Idaho has you covered! whether you want to hike up or ride the gondola up, you'll be blown away by the views from 7000+ feet. Just be sure to check hours before making the trip. We had lunch on the patio on opening day for the summer season and the food, service and view were all stellar! The salmon BLT was delicious and the truffle fries are a must order. Pulled pork sandwiches were good too, just remember to ask for some extra bbq sauce. Nice beverage list too if you're looking for a beer or glass of wine. Just take your time and your camera for this unforgettable experience.

Yelp
I was looking forward to eating at the roundhouse after an excellent visit last year, but I was really disappointed in the quality of our meal. We ordered the fondue with added cauliflower and broccoli and the steak frites. The fondue was served over a stand that was covered in bits of old cheese. Gross, but not the end of the world. Then came the fondue, which was as good as ever. However, the produce was way past its prime. I sent the cauliflower back (it was brown even though i could see that parts had been cut away), and the grapes were wrinkly. The apple tasted old. The steak was looked like a filet but tasted like a composite of lesser cuts, and it lacked flavor. I gave an extra star for the french fries, which were excellent. Overall disappointing for a $100+ lunch for two.

Yelp
Before I start my review I have to say, Aleks the bartender was amazing. He made our experience so lovely. Our service was amazing, Aleks took such great care of us. The food was oh so delicious, the ambience was perfection, the entire scene was delightful, we enjoyed this experience so much. It was a perfect spot to go when needled a little break from skiing.

Yelp
Family vacation and took them for lunch for the experience. We were a party of 7 and we checked in at our reservation time and the hostess said we are setting your table it will be a few minutes, no problem. After a half an hour of waiting she asks me the name again and said oh your party is already seated, I said no their not because we are all right here and have been. After another 10 minutes with the front of house manager doing her thing we were seated. No I am sorry, we had a mix up, she said absolutely nothing to any of us. Of course this blew up the poor waiter, who was great, who is now running behind and his area is slammed. So everything was delayed a bit but it worked out. Food and drinks were good, Fondue, Bison Chili, Truffle Fries, Burger, everyone was happy with the food. In the end, the front of the house staff is terrible at the desk and in management, no one said anything to us about it.

Yelp
What would we order again? * Caesar Salad - Most Caesar salads are one note in flavor. Not this one. No croutons that are hard to snag with a fork but rather ground croutons on top. The egg is specially prepared and shaved. Ask about this it's pretty cool and I think I detected the slight taste of anchovies as I should be a Caesar. Tons of flavor. * Salmon BLT - Tasty. Salmon was not fishy at all. Light alioli on it too. * Quinoa Kale Cranberry Slaw - My husband HATES kale, but he ate all of this and wouldn't share. What would we not order again? Nothing. It was all made to perfection.

Yelp
Well, HAPPY F.ING VALENTINE'S DAY! We made our reservation over a month ago. Husband just went to check in special anniversary (with a tip) and told we have no reservation! It is 3:35pm, 4 hours prior to date. Gal "don't shoot the messenger" overheard saying it happening again! Nice Sun Valley, thanks a lot!

Walt F.

Yelp
Dylan, great host! Took care of us --a lot of us, for hours Food is great. Fondu all day.....

Gretchen E.

Yelp
Get your best friends and your ski legs over here for a mid day lunch of the most amazing fondue. Our charming and Uber helpful waiter Kennith George helped us pair a lively and crisp Austrian Laurenz weltlinger wine with the fondue and it was pure perfection. It rivaled the fresh snow on bald mountain this morning. Now, gotta get off the mountain to grab the kids from school. We will be back....
google avatar

Carole W.

Yelp
We went there yesterday for lunch, recommended by the super nice manager of the Seattle Ridge Lodge. We had such a nice lunch in the perfect setting. Having been to Austria a number of times, this spot reminded me of Austria. The food was excellent, and the service was very good. I had the Kale Salad, was one of the best I have ever had. My husband had the croque Monsieur, was so tasty, with a small salad and a side of huckleberries!!They don't scrimp on ingredients, very well done. Amazing to sit in that beautiful dining room and have such a spectacular view. The history is like no other ski resort in the US that I have been. A must when skiing Sun Valley. It is also inexpensive for the experience you will have. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I cannot believe I am the first to review the Roundhouse... it's been around since 1939! If you are in the Sun Valley, Idaho area in the winter, you cannot leave without visiting this spot for lunch. Of all the restaurants I have been to on earth, this is one of my favorites. It's a bit funky, and even after a very subtle remodel, it's like stepping back in time. But the views are astounding and the food ranges from very good to spectacular. Best of all, the brand new gondola goes straight to the restaurant! It's set half way up Bald Mountain (the ski mountain) and was the original lodge for the Sun Valley ski resort. Now it is a full service restaurant and has a recently added bar called Averell's. Since it's on the mountain, and due to (I'm guessing) insurance, they are not open for dinner and are only open during the ski season. Coming in after a few hours of skiing for raclette, a nice bottle of wine and some accordion music played by the resident accordion player is truly one of the best ways to spend a winter day I know of. UPDATE: I think, starting this year (2010), the Roundhouse will be open for lunch year-round because of the new gondola.

Yelp
Good food. Even better views. Kind servers. Suspiciously handsome cook. Would recommend.
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
This place was amazing. Being from Wisconsin - our crew felt this place reminded us of a classic Wisconsin Supper Club - except just at 7,800 and almost at the top of a mountain. So trust us when we say the food was excellent! And the views.... make sure you try and get a reservation before sunset - the gondola ride was breathtaking and the views were stunning. Excellent service from the always attentive Jeremy from Arkansas!! Would definitely go back!!
google avatar

Tammy D.

Yelp
I always try to order things that probably wouldn't get prepared at home. This lamb burger with goat cheese and linden berry jam was amazing. The quinoa, red cabbage and Brussels sprout salad was a super bonus. Then to top it off the gondola ride made it an extra special dining event. The staff was exceptional but I wouldn't expect anything different from Sun Valley Resort
google avatar

Noelle S.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat in the world! Love the decor and the history of the place. I've been very fortunate enough to try all the items in the menu and every dish is truly delicious. The staff is also nice and professional. I did not think I would be eating lunch with my mom and my friends five days in a row but each time was a blast! The fondue is the best and love all of there salads.

Yelp
Table of 4 reserved for our family on NYE, months prior. NYE day we receive a call saying they undercharged us $20 per person (it is a fixed rate for NYE). My wife, rightfully so, made light of the situation and told them she found it odd they called us day of dinner. They begrudgingly said they would waive the extra "holiday" rate. I quipped to family that we would be placed at the worst table in the place. We get there and sure enough we get placed in the bar next to the bathroom (there were two tables there, outside the actual dining room). We asked to be moved into the dining room and unfortunately there were no available tables although some were visible and went unused. The other table in the bar ended up causing a fuss, left without eating and wasn't charged. We were not going to ruin our NYE. Food was fairly good but I'm still waiting for my wine to arrive that I ordered. The Manager was making rounds talking to folks but gave me the impression he was not a problem solver and I suspect was the reason we received a phone call when they realized the billing issue. To me this was bush league stuff that should happen at an Olive Garden. Long story long, if you reserve a table make sure you confirm it in the dining room and not in the bar/bathroom area.
google avatar

Dawn V.

Yelp
This is a beautiful day out. You can only get here by gondola and it s a spiritual experience to go all the way to the top in the summer, when all is silent but the birds. Lunch here allows you to spend more time admiring the view, so ambiance alone gives it five stars. We tried the pancetta wrapped ruby red trout with roasted veg and beluga lentils. Best choice on the menu. So tasty. Also can recommend the Moroccan chicken salad with quinoa tabouli. The spice on the chicken is very nice without overwhelming you. Roasted tomatoe soup was so delicious. Wanted to take another order of it home! With a mojito and margarita thrown in, the total bill was $80 for three people. (soup, two salads, one fish, two drinks). But when we bought our lift tickets at the bottom, they have us 3 $10 lunch vouchers, bring it down to $50! With this atmosphere and food quality, it was a steal!!!!!
google avatar

Kayan H.

Yelp
Excellent view, pretty good service although the ordering process happens at the front counter with a limited 10 items on the menu. Good was not that great: Mediterranean chop - I ordered this. Probably the worst salad I've ever eaten at a restaurant. Chicken had no flavor, the veggies in the salad were sparse and it came out without dressing. Buffalo burger - this was good. My husband ordered it. The horseradish sauce and the party were a great combo. I'd come for the view. Once you're up here there really are no other options though. Salmon salad looked amazing
google avatar

Jay F.

Yelp
...without a doubt...the best view of any dining experience in the valley...Averall's is a restaurant within the Roundhouse that is more fun..
google avatar

Jeanne P.

Yelp
The iconic Roundhouse is located off River Run, so you can ski to the lodge. However you must climb 3-4 flights up. When you arrive the service is notably sour. They wouldn't serve food on the HUGE view deck. They said we could order bar food and take it outside ourselves, however they neglected to tell us the bar only accepts cash. Gosh people...how many skiers cash a bunch of cash. We ordered $7 worth of fries which was a measly serving. Skip the Roundhouse for a better expetience
google avatar

Crystal S.

Yelp
Madalyn from North Carolina was the absolute best. We came in at 1pm and the place was so busy and she accommodated is with a smile and the best service yet! Highly recommend asking for her this holiday season! Merry Christmas, Madalyn!
google avatar

Maren H.

Yelp
Sun Valley is special, and the Roundhouse is one of the traditions. Due to an injury I wasn't able to ski this year, but I'll tell ya the Gondola made it possible to get my view on! I loved the ride (But not the price! Holy cow it's expensive) then happily enjoyed the view before going into the roundhouse for lunch. THE FOOD: They have an interesting mix of food. Right now, it seems everyone in Sun Valley needs to do a Kale Quinoa salad. And they of course had this. I had that on the side of my club sandwich. My husband ate an Elk burger and fries which he enjoyed! THE DRINKS: Pomegranate Mimosa...um.. yes please. But if you are a Margarita fan, this was truly one of the best we had ever tried. WOW! I was almost bummed to have my mimosa, ALMOST... both were great. TIPS: Make a reservation or be prepared to wait. Also, if the smell of Fondu, also on the menu, then this is not your place. My niece and husband couldn't get over the stinky cheese stench.
google avatar

Alli H.

Yelp
Best place on earth! The perfect place to enjoy a break mid-ski. And the service was incredible - a big thanks Madalyn!
google avatar

Evelyn V.

Yelp
Food here is great. Service is ok. Dont bother showing up if you dont have a reservation...especially if you have a large group. You will find that you will fend for yourself by hovering over guests wrapping up their meals so that someone else doesnt steal your table. Be warned. You need patience to eat here and even more patience to camp out and get a table.
google avatar

Holly R.

Yelp
Just had lunch here on the deck with my family and I was so pleased with everything! I have been to the roundhouse many many times during both winter and summer seasons over the past few years and I have to say that so far this has been the best summer experience for me. The vibe was great, the food was great, and the service was wonderful. The staff were all happy and helpful and everything seemed to flow. The deck was packed with families and hikers, good tunes, and lots of happy faces. Good job on this one SV mountain food peeps. It's workin!

Yelp
Absoulety ridiculous that you have to pay $30 per person just to ride the gondola to restaurant.

Jaime J.

Yelp
B. Shea is the best. Always sweet and accommodating. Thank you for making me feel st home in Sun Valley each time I see you!
