"This Carmel bistro’s menu is full of French, Spanish, and Mediterranean influences, from the shrimp sauteed in brandy to surf-and-turf paella to traditional boeuf bourguignon. Roux features locally caught calamari in its seafood fettuccine, tossed with a marinara sauce as well as shrimp, bay scallops, and littleneck clams. The food was horrible, no flavor. I added a pivoting of the worst French onion soup I have ever tasted. The cheese was not the typical gruyere, and while I do like a lot of cheese, this was easy too much. There was no broth or onions, they had too much bread. I asked for some broth and onions, but the server said they didn't have more. Go to Lugano's for Great onion soup. The Gamba appetizer, no garlic or butter flavor, the crisp on shrimp looked good, but they're was zero flavor. Lastly, my husband for the gnocchi bolenaise. They're was a pile of gnocchi stannic got like out came out of a microwave. We changed tables because there were 5 flies hanging out by the window, we should have just left then. The waiter was trying to get us to order drinks, we only wanted sparkling water. He said, "oh, you don't drink?" Nope, I want my brain healthy. He suggested soda, I said no way. At the end he was pushing dessert, they're was no way we were trying anything else at that place, never again. Go any place but here.

Food was great. The owner came out and greeted our birthday dinner group. Service was awesome. I recommend this place. We didn't get any wine but they have tons to choose from. Choose the outdoor seating you won't be disappointed.

Google
Don't sit near the window or you'll spend time with the flies. The food was okay, but the service was not. The restaurant wasn't packed either. However, it seemed like only one guy was taking care of everyone. They need at least two people. The paella was definitely enough for two people. We ended up with some leftovers.

Google
I had the short ribs which was sort of like a pot roast and it was quite good. Not a huge portion but good. The seafood pasta was good as well. Call ahead just to make sure they have tables

Google
Classy atmosphere, excellent service. We only had some of the small plates as we had dinner plans elsewhere, but they were very good. The Brussels sprouts in particular were on point.

Google
Possibly one of my favorite lunch stops in town. Really comfortable outdoor seating. Inside available too. Had a nice tapas style lunch by sharing a variety of small dishes. Had yucca fries, crab cakes and mini burgers. That was plenty for the two of us but we tend to eat small portions. Sangrias (both red and white) were really good and perfect for this hot day. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend it.

Google
Bernardus Lodge and Spa where we were staying recommended Roux. We arrived for an early dinner and ordered a variety of appetizers to split with a glass of wine. The food and service was spectacularly. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area.

Google
I visited Roux this past weekend with a group and ordered the New York strip steak cooked medium rare. Unfortunately, the steak I received was clearly overcooked--closer to well done. When I brought this to the attention of our server, he acknowledged the issue and said they would remake it. Shortly after, the server returned and informed me that the chef beleived the steak was medium rare, though they would still prepare a new one. About five minutes later, I received another steak--this time severely undercooked, blue rare, and still cold in the center. When I brought this up to my server, the chef shouted from the kitchen, insisting the first steak had been cooked correctly. It was one of the most unprofessional dining experiences I've ever had. The staff showed no accountability and displayed incredibly poor customer service throughout the interaction.

Yelp
We had a great dinner at Roux this past weekend. The restaurant has been open and closed off and on the past years since Covid and we were happy to see it back open. We had the deviled eggs and the tuna tartare to start. Both dishes were very tasty and fresh. Our entrees were the Beef Bourguignon and the ribeye. The BB's short rib was fork tender and the mashed potatoes were the perfect texture. The ribeye was cooked medium-rare, as requested, with a lovely sauce. The asparagus on the side could have been cooked more, it was close to being raw. But the roasted potatoes were crispy on the outside, fluffy in the inside. We took off a star because while the fire in the fireplace was nice, there was a faint smell from what was burning and it was a bit unpleasant. We'd sit farther away from the fire next time. The server was very attentive and all in all, we're going back with more friends soon. We hope more people come and try Roux so they make it. CV village really needs a restaurant like this!

Yelp
We went to Roux in August- food was good, not fine dining, no table cloths, took our own wine and paid corkage. We went back with some friends because we didn't have reservations anywhere else after a wine pick-up at a local winery. We walked about a quarter mile from the winery, but forgot to take our wine. When we arrived at 6:30 pm on a Saturday, the restaurant was empty. However, we were asked if we had a reservation and when we said no, the guy had a little attitude. We all laughed because there was no one else there! Then the guy said to sit anywhere. LOL! We were all in a good mood and when we sat down, my husband joked about the absence of table cloths again and the server remembered us from last time. We ordered from the wine list, but they were out of the first bottle we chose. We asked for another and they were out of that too. Then we asked what they had and the server said to look in their wine fridge. We selected a bottle from Roar, but it was $200, more than we wanted to spend that night. They suggested another bottle which was $100 from a winery that none of us liked. Nothing else appealed to us so we asked if the server could give us a break on the Roar since they didn't have the 2 we ordered from the list. He called the owner, and he said no. At this point, we were so embarrassed because we had taken our friends there and we couldn't even order a bottle of wine. As a group we discussed what to do and decided to walk back to our car and get some wine we liked. Finally we had wine and ordered the brussel sprouts appetizer, which were delicious. I had chicken for dinner, which was okay. My husband had the bolognese which was really good. One of our friends ordered the salmon and it was way too salty. In the end, we were charged for corkage on one bottle although we had 2. So that's something. However, if a restaurant doesn't have any wines you want and you walk a half mile to bring your own, you would think they would waive the corkage fee. Anyway, we won't be going back and neither will our friends.

Yelp
First time to Roux and they didn't disappoint. Drink - Glass of sparkling rose each Starter - We shared the roasted Brussel sprouts Mains - My wife had the truffle fettuccine and I had the salmon on a bed of cauliflower risotto Desert - we could not make our mind up so ended up with both the lemon cheesecake and the crème brûlée I've attached pictures of all the dishes (literally) !.. you'll figure that piece out and how much we enjoyed them. I'd read up on the fan fav. French onion soup but was put off as someone said it was filling so skipped it .. After seeing it served at another table I was kicking myself but we will hopefully return for a lunch and will pray that's on the menu. Talking of menus, the only tiny gripe is the website had a menu that is out of date and the 2 dishes I really fancied were no longer available (lobster fettuccine and crab ravioli) .. please please could you update your website or the menu on Yelp or at the least take a photo of the new menu and delete the old ones as they are all 6+yrs old and I forgot to photograph it !. Anyhow, the ambience was great, service was faultless and food devine. Both my wife and I came away (from her birthday dinner) feeling we'd chosen really well with a sincere desire to return !. Thank you to the team for your obvious passion for food, there's lots of choices in the area and Roux stands tall in the valley of giants as a solid recommendation.

Yelp
Just enjoyed a great meal here! 3/4 of us got the seafood pasta, which was amazing. I had the white sangria, which was sweet and not too heavy on the alcohol. 2 people in our party got the French onion soup. I tried a bit of the cheese and it was out of this world! Maybe I'll get the soup next time with an appetizer because I would have been too full from both the soup and the pasta. The lobster fettuccine and crab ravioli also looked amazing. Easy to make a reservation online and the restaurant wasn't too crowded. There was plenty of outdoor seating. Our waiter was great too. We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
My husband and I tried this place while visiting Carmel valley . Service was impeccable. Our food came out quickly and was so tasty . Our only mistake was ordering too much . We started with the scallop appetizer . This was so delicious ! We also got the French onion soup and seafood soup . Both were good but the French onion was to die for. The seafood pasta was fantastic along with the baked lobster . Our pup was allowed inside and had mini burgers . The crème brûlée and chocolate cake were so tasty . Enjoyed a wonderful bottle of Pinot Noir from Bernardus. We will be back !

Yelp
Excellent dinner for my wife and I to start our weekend getaway. Would certainly go back when we return to visit the village.

Yelp
Came here on Sunday evening shortly after opening. Reservation wasn't needed at this time. The service was a bit slow despite not having a full restaurant. Water took forever and we felt other people had seen the server more than we've had. The food was decent. We only ordered their paella for two and that was more than enough. They do have outdoor seating which seems to be the preferred choice. We sat inside and ended up dealing with flies. Appreciate the parking availability though! That's one less thing to worry about.

Yelp
Made a reservation for Christmas Day for 7:30. Called half an hour before my reservation to confirm that they were serving their full menu and not a "Christmas Menu" as some restaurants were doing, otherwise we would have found somewhere closer to eat. Someone answered and said yes. Drove 30 minutes to find the restaurant completely closed down, it did not look like they were even open today. I understand completely that most businesses are closed for Christmas but to have reservations available online, answer the phone and confirm their menu and then end up being closed is completely unprofessional. (They even had reservations available at 8pm, their closing time, which makes zero sense.)

Yelp
Took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day. Not too thrilled about our experience. Very slow night -- was there for over 2 hours. A special night need not be rushed but everything was simply slow, and the main course took a long time to come out. Atmosphere was nice; we felt cozy in there not too far away from the fireplace. Food was just alright. The steak was good, not great. Was lacking flavor but it was cooked to my medium preference spot on. The roasted potatoes were a good counterpart to the steak. The lady's butternut squash gnocchi was tasty. Had an excellent sauce and a nice combination of flavors overall. The chocolate cake was dry, so bites without the ice cream were less than ideal. In summary, we didn't have a bad night by any means, but was definitely let down a bit.

Yelp
Easy last minute reservation made. Great patio; stifling inside. Friendly service. Keeping name, there's been a change of owner and executive chef since here last. On this visit: hearty "Heirloom Tomatoes with Burrata"; standout brandy sauce with undercooked shrimps "Gambas with Brandy"; and, an amazing abundance of seafood, chorizo, chicken but with no socarrat whatsoever found in their "Spanish 'paella' Surf & Turf". Cheers!

Yelp
They were not busy when we got there Friday night. And we got to sit right next to a roaring fireplace. Very romantic and the food was superb. I highly recommend it. The waiter was an awesome person

Yelp
Had a lovely cheerful dinner at Roux last week. We had boeuf bourginoin, salmon, French onion soup and salad. All tasty. The beef was done with short ribs and was the biggest hit. It's nice to see this place continuing its traditions so well.

Yelp
Long time no Yelp review! Attracted to this place cause of the duck options on Yelp! The interior was very intimate and classy - a very nice date night location. They have a full page of wine to choose from though I opted out cause I just had some pain meds. My girlfriend did partake in white sangria which was quite refreshing (couldn't help but try haha). They have a nice selection of small plates available with pastas and entrees. I haven't had tuna tartare when I felt satisfied. Typically, you get too little taro chips or not enough tartare but this was a good balance. I felt it had enough tang though my girlfriend felt it was just so-so. The duck confit with mushroom ravioli was fire! It was very savory and the meat felt like it melted in my mouth after it fell off the bone. I was able to taste the truffle oil and it had a delicious mix off flavors with the mushroom ravioli, sauteed mushrooms and cherry tomatoes, and roasted squash. The yucca fries had a crispy exterior and just can't get enough of the chipotle aioli, ask for more! We got there an hour prior to closing but they were able to serve us their paella for 2! We did ask for it to go since it took a bit to be prepped and but it was worth the wait. The Spanish surf and turf was good with chicken sausage shrimp veggies and rice and tasty spices. I really like that it survived a 15 min drive without drying out in that box! Be warned, it might not look a lot in the pic but it really is for 2. Definitely would return for date night in Carmel Valley!

Yelp
Had a very nice date lunch here with my wife while we dropped the toddler off at a friends for a play date. It's a small spot with a wine cellar vibe inside, pretty patio seating outside. The service was friendly and attentive. All of the food was fresh and cooked perfectly. The shrimp all was tasty, my wife loved her gnocchi and the steak for my steak frites was cooked perfectly. I feel like it's really hard to get a perfectly medium rare steak anymore. This chef clearly knows what he's doing!

Yelp
My family recently came here for my wife's birthday, and we were unfortunately really let down by slow/poor service. We ordered an appetizer and entrees, and it was a full 80 minutes between being seated and receiving our first appetizer. Our entrees came out at the 90-minute mark. It would be nice if the restaurant would have had bread or something for the table, but they don't do that here. We literally had no food for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Our water glasses were frequently empty. But then again, you probably drink water faster when you have no food, so that may be part of it. The server did not acknowledge or apologize for anything, and while I'm sure I could have complained my way to an apology, I'm not sure there would have been any point in doing that. I can say that next time we're in the area, we won't be coming here for a second visit. And I suggest you don't come here for your first.

Yelp
Their white wine sangria is so refreshing. I heard they used to sell it to-go during covid because it was so popular. They use fresh fruits like oranges, mango, peach and it blended so well with the white wine. We enjoyed their tuna tartare with taro chips. The chips were thin and crispy and went well with the fish and avocados. We also got the chicken and seafood paella, which was tasty but honestly a bit heavy, but I think all paellas are like that. Come hungry! Oh and they didn't take card when we went. Cash or Venmo only.

Yelp
The food was excellent as well as the service. My husband had the chicken sandwich with a salad for lunch. I had the b.l.a.t sandwich. I would recommend both sandwiches. We will be back.

Yelp
Hadn't been to Roux for awhile: Ruben, our server, just wonderful. We were so pleased with ALL of our food choices: heirloom burrata salad luxurious flavors, blue cheese Cesar with apple spikes & raisins delicious, scallops appetizer great. my sweetie's chicken was most delicious. sadly, no room left for meyer lemon cheese cake. & the outside metal chairs now have cushions [for our old bones]. REALLY GREAT EXPERIENCE & FOOD! Thank you!

Ashley M.

Yelp
The food, especially the brussels sprouts and scallops as an appetizer are amazing! The service is impeccable and top notch. I came here about two years ago and still the food keeps my attention. I actually dream about the Brussels sprouts,Definitely worth a try and highly recommend coming here to this slice of heaven!

Yelp
Went for brunch with my girlfriend's & man Was this place amazing from the food, bottomless mimosas & amazing service by our server Manny I believe was his name, he was very charismatic & was on top of everything. My girlfriend's really loved Chef Rubens special Desserts. Overall a 9/10 would be 10/10 if they added a full bar :) . Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Loved this place! 1st time visiting while in Carmel. The food was fantastic & the service was friendly & efficient. They have outdoor & indoor seating. We enjoyed everything we ordered. We got the duck crispy leg, shrimp, Brussels sprouts, heirloom tomato & crab cakes. Our favorite was dessert, the deep fried Oreos! We will definitely come back next time we're in Carmel. It's cash or venmo only, no credit cards.

Yelp
Top notch. Well prepared and presented. Good service. Highly recommend. Support local great cuisine!

Yelp
This is a really nice and trendy restaurant in Carmel Valley. I dined outdoors with two little ones and felt very comfortable. They have baby chairs available upon request. I arrived on a Saturday right when they opened and guests quickly filled up the dining space. It seems like folks come here for mimosas and small bites. I tried the pomme frites, house smoked pulled pork sandwich, orange glazed chicken skewers, and the house beer batter alaskan cod sandwich. Everything looked really pretty and presentable. The fries were crunchy and not overly oily. The pulled pork sandwich was a tad on the sweet side, but came with a nice purple cabbage slaw that balanced the meal. The salad was rich and creamy. The bread was fresh and soft. The chicken skewers were soft and had a nice touch of orange glaze that was not overly sweet. The cod sandwich was crunchy and not oily. It tasted pretty good and fresh. The food was made quickly and there was absolutely no wait. The waiters are attentive and come out often. There is free street parking, and a few spots specifically for the restaurant right out front. This was the first restaurant out in the Carmel area in my experience that either took cash or Venmo. Venmo was convenient as there was a QR code. Perhaps the COVID precautions here are different as I did not see workers wear masks or hand sanitizers readily available.

Yelp
I think they're undergoing new management, but this place is very solid and great portion sizes for the location, price and small house-like ambiance with outdoor and indoor seating. We came with a group of 6 and had a reservation on a Thursday night, but there were only 2-3 other parties in the restaurant. Great service and pretty seasonal menu that changes it seems. The best dishes I would recommend/order again is the Duck Breast and Filet Mignon! the others (Paella, Braised Beef Gnocchi, Half Chicken were just okay but nothing was bad), Dessert was actually amazing, both the Meyer Lemon Cheesecake (omg this crust) and the Crème Brûlée which other reviewers suggested were amazing to share. This place is CASH ONLY which is weird for somewhat of an upscale place and pretty inconvenient, but we came prepared.
google avatar

Jordan M.

Yelp
Really nice outdoor ambience, great service. Quiet Sunday evening. Probably the best Brussels sprouts we've ever had. Really calm and quiet even with other customers around. I've only listed a few five stars.

Yelp
Had our rehearsal dinner at Roux in 2023. Ruben was helpful and responsive from the beginning, and he and his dad were incredibly accommodating. The food was INCREDIBLE - the Harris ranch bolognese in particular blew my mind! Mary's chicken was also really delicious. We all had a lovely time, food was great and the location was super cute. Everyone was commenting on how great the food was after! And it was very reasonably priced. Highly recommend Roux for a casual meal or an event! Ruben and his team are fantastic and very professional.

Yelp
The family and I rolled into ROUX for lunch today after some wine tasting. We checked out the Corkscrew Cafe, but really weren't feeling it. ROUX closes at 2 so we were lucky to get a table when we did. The menu had small plates on it which is really what we were looking for. The first thing I noticed were the truffled deviled eggs topped with salmon caviar. I love deviled eggs and could have eaten three plates of them. Between the Mrs. and I the eggs were gone in less than 5 minutes. We also ordered the cantimpalitos chorizo corn dogs. Yes, you read that correctly. Chorizo corn dogs and very good ones I might add. To add to the carb/meat munchies, we ordered the creek stone beef mini burgers(aka, sliders). They were perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. We couldn't have burgers without fries so we ordered the pomme frites. For dessert we had the fried Oreos. Usually, we get those at the L.A. County fair and they are on a stick. To accompany our meal, the Mrs. and I shared a bottle of Carmel Hills Pinot Noir. ROUX only serves beer and wine from what I could tell. The service was excellent and so was the setting. I just wondered if ROUX had outdoor dining before COVID because you can't beat the setting. FYI-ROUX is also dog friendly. Paying for your meal is interesting. Cash, Venmo, and Zelle are the only method of payment you can use. No credit cards accepted. I'm assuming this is because of COVID because I can see a lot of flaws in having diners pay by apps. The only real issue I could see was parking. ROUX is located in Carmel Valley Village off of Pilot Road. It is surrounded by tasting rooms and other restaurants. So on a weekend and/or beautiful day, parking is an issue.

Yelp
After all these years, the place is still top-notch. The new owner has been the chef for quite awhile so the menu items are still prepared the same. So you'll still find one of the best French Onion soups around (Bistro Moulin's is just as good). I still haven't tried a dinner here but I love the brunches so much. I had the Salmon Benedict for the first time today. I usually go with the crab but almost everyone in my party wanted the smoked salmon so I decided to try it too. It passed the test. Being from Alaska, I'm particular about salmon. Good smoked salmon should have an even texture and be firm with a slightly smoky flavor, not overpowering. Theirs passes the test. A friend loved his chicken sandwich. So I always leave thinking there is something else to try, the friendly service is not too overbearing but they are still there. And cannot beat a sunny afternoon on their patio. I'm glad Carmel Valley Village has this hidden gem.

Yelp
Always enjoy the ambiance and food here. Some of our favorites: - lamb chop salad - must have French fries - shrimp gambas - tuna tartar - seafood chowder

Yelp
In sum: the food is unbelievably wonderful and the service is UNBEATABLE! They also serve the BEST French toast I've ever had! I came here for a wonderful brunch, beautiful seating outside with the sun shining and keeping you warm, but also has nice cover too. Beautiful! Sat near some cute doggos too. I've seen their whole menu, they serve some wonderful dishes for lunch as well, and I will absolutely travel across the country just to come back here. french toast / caramelized banana / pineapple-coconut syrup / crispy bacon u n b e a t a b l e French toast... I have no words (or all the words). The caramelized banana that was with the rich and toasty bread complemented with the pineapple-coconut syrup is the best combination that has ever been created. It did not taste like an artificial banana flavor but if fresh, caramelized bananas. I can still taste it and I still dream about it as I'm writing this review. The bacon also complimented the sweetness of it all, even though the dish itself wasn't extremely sweet, it was balanced very well. There's only one way to find out if this is the beat French toast ever... it's the get it and see for yourself ;) Yucca fries: if you don't know what these are, they're basically like a thicker (thiccc with 3 c's) type of fry that is crunchy on the outside but also comparatively to a potato, creamier in fry form. Technically speaking, it is a gluten-free and fat-free (also root) vegetable that is high in Vitamins C, B & A as well as calcium, phosphorus, potassium and iron, and it has a higher amount of fiber and potassium than potato's! It was super delicious, don't let these fool you because it's an appetizer for a reason so although they look like a small portion, remember it's pretty thick in fiber so it's pretty filling too. I shared these with my boyfriend and we both love it! The sauce is a Chipotle aiolï, it was super delicious! Complemented the fries very well. Crab cake Benedict: extremely filling and super delicious! I could definitely taste the nice freshness of the grab flavor and the Holland aisle that covered it was very creamy and rich, it went so well together! Bacon was also super crispy and crunchy, perfectly cooked and not overdone. The potatoes were great, I do have to admit, the potatoes are quite average and we should've asked for some kind of sauce, maybe ketchup, but eating it with the chipotle aïoli leftover from the Yukon fries was great (until we ate all the sauce haha). My boyfriend got the french style scrambled eggs: with house made sausage, puff pastry, creamy eggs, and roasted Yukon gold potatoes. I had a couple bites of his and it was super delicious! The pastry was flakey, buttery, and delicate, and paired with the creamy eggs and a bite of sausage? It takes me to flavor-town, it's like a happy dance in my mouth! The house-made sausage was so delicious. It was so savory and juicy, it reminded me of an Asian type of pork I've eaten back at home, with a lot of flavor inside, reminds me of a type of soy sauce blend, and it was so good! Service: this is the best service here. There is a man who is so kind and so passionate with his work. On a day we came by, he told us he was running a bit behind and it seemed like he was the only one who was there to service the many others who were there. He was running everywhere and you can tell that he only wanted to deliver the best quality food with the best quality service, he was so kind and funny, very personable and apologized many times, but we didn't see a problem and completely understood. He also told us that he loved the French toast too and that we made a great choice! Such a wonderful man, we tipped him very well, he was such a hard worker and cared for his customers very well. In addition to the French toast, I would also fly back just to see him :)

Yelp
Not good. Wouldn't return if it was free. Poor service. Confusion with order. Low quality food. It was not, i repeat not a good experience. Not to mention it was a ten year anniversary dinner. Booo

Yelp
We made a trip out to Carmel Valley about 1 week after outdoor dining opened back up. Our intention was to visit Big Sur Vineyards and enjoy lunch from Trailside. Well we were too early for the winery and Trailside had no table for us so my husband got the fantastic idea to have lunch at Roux. I am so glad we did. The owners are so welcoming, the waitstaff friendly and attentive and the food, delicious! The outdoor space is quite cozy. Tables were well spaced and sanitized between guests. I felt comfortable dining here. We started by sharing the caramelized onion soup. It was by far the best onion soup I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The perfect marriage of onion, broth, baguette and cheese. The cheese was nicely crisped, but still perfectly gooey under the crisp top! I will never share again - I want my own bowl! For lunch, I chose the grilled chicken sandwich which was marinated in Dijon and topped with gruyere, avocado, tomato and bacon. My husband chose the Impossible Burger, subbing a beef burger and adding cheese. It was topped with tomato, red onion, lettuce and chipotle aioli. Both sandwiches were served with pommes frites. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. The fries were not the least bit greasy and wonderfully crispy. Our unplanned visit was quite epic. They have a nice selection of wines and are selling the bottles to take home at outstanding prices. I can't wait to go back and try their entrees. I am positive my experience will be just as good and I will have that soup all to myself! Please note - they are not accepting credit/debit cards at this time....cash or Venmo only.

Yelp
Four stars? This place should be a five stars! Not only do they have great service but great food as well. We ordered the filet mingion and my husband ordered the butter squash gunnochi and we were blown away of how amazing it was. The interior is very nice as well and makes for a great date! Customer service was excellent as well! Our waiter manny was a great help with our decision on food and very nice! 10/10 We will definitely be back :)

Yelp
Lovely restaurant with friendly service. We had gravlax, Brussel sprouts, salmon and the new york steak. Pleasant dinner near the fireplace.

Yelp
food, perfect, i dont have any complaints, meat quality, tastes, source, and cooking, are excellent. Family was happy for everything they ate (which is actually rare for my family, as they all have different favorites and special requests). 10/10 environment, old but maintaining well, some flies bothering us since we are the first table, once more customers in the restaurant, those flies found something better. 7/10 service, very nice waiter, food and drink took a bit long, might be we are the first customer that might need to wait a bit for the kitchen to be ready. 8/10 overall, we love and enjoy the night out dining in this restaurant, recommended if you are visiting the area.

Yelp
It's very casual restaurant. I like the small portion of the appetizer and has quite a bit of variety tapas food. The only thing not convenient is that they only take cash or Venmo. Food is great!

Yelp
We visited as a family (including toddler) for dinner and the food was fantastic! We ordered the rack of lamb, bolognese gnocchi, salmon with cauliflower risotto, lobster pasta, seafood pasta and beef bourginon. Everything was delicious - great flavor and everything was well seasoned. Very nice family owned restaurant and attentive service, we'll be back many times!

Yelp
We came on a Monday to celebrate my wife's Birthday. It appeared to be fairly slow, which made it even better. Kylie was our amazing waitress and did a great job at making sure we were having a great experience. This area and Roux are without a doubt, hidden gems that need to be visited. I only have one warning for visitors. Just because you were able to get a ride to the restaurant, does NOT mean you will get a ride back. We were staying up in Carmel by the Sea and took a Lyft. When it came time to leave, we couldn't get a Lyft, Uber or Taxi. Luckily, we were able to find a very kind young lady that gave us a ride back up our AirBnB. We will be back and drive ourselves next time. Thank you Kylie and Roux for a memorable evening.

Yelp
Splendid atmosphere and above average cuisine. Vibrant patio dining. Quirky payment system. Average service. A really good choice if you want the authentic beautiful Carmel Valley culinary experience.

Yelp
Beautiful day, out door seating, a bit understaffed but good service, apps were good, the BLAT, was good and the skirt steak sandwich was very good, fries were a bit less than warm but not cold, and tasty. The wines were good, although they ran out of the champagne we were drinking, but they comped the last 2/3 of a glass. lol the only down side and certainly not the restaurants fault, we were seated at the same time as a party of twelve. The apps came out quickly but the food then took awhile longer than I would have liked optimally. As mentioned, they seemed a bit understaffed in the kitchen for a Mother's Day. Overall we would go back.

Yelp
Had a nice lunch at Roux with the family today. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because we were the only party in the restaurant and the food seemed to take longer than necessary. Otherwise, everyone enjoyed their food. However two of the diners would have preferred more seasoning (at least more salt and pepper) on their country potatoes and eggs. Maybe offer to bring salt & pepper to the table? Otherwise the servers did a great job and were very pleasant.

Yelp
Dinner of scallop appetizer & French onion soup was good during my Monday night visit. The gas for the outdoor heaters ran out, fortunately I was wearing a thick jacket. Overall I would recommend eating here.

Yelp
This was a 4.5 NYE dinner! Charming interior, great service and the food was exceptional. We ordered the French Onion Soup which was sooo good on a very stormy night. It was cheesy, bready, beefy, oniony goodness. 5 stars! For entrees we had the Beef Short Rib with a cauliflower risotto (it had pork belly in it!) which was out of this world. Only critique is that we wish it had a bit more of the lovely Cabernet sauce on top of the meat. Our other entree was the Duck Breast with sautéed potatoes and tomatoes... cooked perfectly and so well seasoned. It's hard to find duck breast and have it cooked medium rare like it should be. For dessert we had the Crème Brûlée which was the only disappointment of the evening. The texture was slightly off and it was all around just kind of meh. But, we managed to eat it all. I have to say, the deep fried Oreos I saw others enjoying looked great! Overall, ROUX is a lovely spot for thoughtful, tasty food in Carmel Valley. Roux is a great date night spot in Carmel Valley.

Yelp
We were staying in Carmel Valley recently and made a reservation at Roux (3 adults, 2 children, 1 dog). We were sat on the patio, heat lamps and fire pits around our table keeping us warm on the chilly evening. My sister knows Chef Fabrice and his wife Jennifer, while I also share a mutual friend with them. Chef greeted us and started chatting...turned into a 30 minute conversation; very entertaining, animated and passionate about his cooking and lifestyle. Also made some excellent recommendations which we decided to try. Recommend eating family style; ordering different dishes to share with the table. Appetizer: -Grilled Artichoke -Cantimpalitos Chorizo Corndogs -Dungeness Crab Cakes Entrees: -Périgord summer truffle pasta -Braised wild boar bourguignon style w/ garganelli pasta -Grilled niman ranch double center pork chop -Butter/Parm pasta for the kids Dessert: -Deep fried oreo / mint whipped cream / vanilla ice cream Highlights - the pasta! Fresh made in-house, excellent texture and bounce. Also, the wild boar was fantastic. We were informed that the boar was actually "harvested" earlier that morning. And the deep fried oreos; come on! The last time I had these were at a county fair, but the mint whip was a nice addition.

Yelp
The author of the menu deserves an award, as it implies bold, developed flavors abound with every dish. Regrettably, nothing could be further from the truth. The heirloom tomato salad, roasted lobster fettuccine and black pepper crusted maple leaf duck were bland, un(der)seasoned and for all intents and purposes, completely flavorless. When I closed my eyes I had absolutely no idea what I was eating. Not bad, disgusting or uneatable, just underwhelming and lacking any, literally any of the flavors described on the menu. Food: 2-stars Service, exceptional overall! Our hostess/waitress was thoughtful, pleasant and attentive. I would hire her in a heartbeat. However, the timing of food out of the kitchen was abysmal. Service: waitress 4.5-stars/Kitchen: 1-star Location and vibe, great! A clean, cozy spot with a ton of potential. Ambience: 4-stars Overall rating, 3-stars, only achieved by ignoring the food. Roux needs a chef with the skill to prepare the dishes described on the menu. I would not recommend a visit unless there is a significant change in the kitchen.

Yelp
Bathroom out of service. Told to go across the street, the place across the street was closed. Onion soup ok. Wrong drinks brought out to both people. Truffle pasta bland. No fresh pepper offered. The paella was inedible. No Flavor. DRIED to a crisp. All pieces were bone dry. We literally took one bite and couldn't have anymore, THEN we still got charged for 50% of the dish we DIDNT eat and sent back. Booooo. And it was our 10 year anniversary dinner :/

Yelp
Had a great dining experience here a few weeks back. We came with 4 families and 5 children. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly. Shout out to Brandon for being to attentive, honest, and polite to our entire group. The food was incredible. Highly recommend the truffle pasta, the paella, and the steak.
