"Sure, this guide is about coffee, but we’d be remiss not to mention a cafe that serves an incredible breakfast sandwich. Both the Fitler Square and Kensington locations specialize in sweet or savory sandwiches made with doughy, salty soft pretzels instead of bread. Our favorite is the classic BEC—crisp slabs of bacon, a whole lot of fluffy scrambled eggs, and Cooper sharp—but the cinnamon and sugar cream cheese pretzel is a close second. Get either with a side of La Colombe coffee." - alison kessler
"The breakfast menu at this eclectic coffee house (with locations in Kensington and Rittenhouse Square) includes a vegan breakfast sandwich that’s out of this world. The vegan sausage, egg, and cheese features Just Egg, Cooper sharp cheese, and Before the Butcher sausage, and can be made on your choice of a pretzel or kaiser roll." - George Banks-Weston

"Soft pretzels can serve as a placeholder between meals, a salty element in a sweet dessert, or, according to Rowhome Coffee, a doughy bed on which to stack a breakfast sandwich. Sure–we enjoy the snacks and sweet treats as much as your average toddler, but the latter is what we’re obsessed with. The Kensington shop layers crisp slabs of bacon, two fluffy scrambled eggs, and cooper sharp on two soft pretzels topped with everything seasoning. It’s a large sandwich, so you’ll have to make a mental plot about your first bite if you don’t want it on your shirt. Or just bring a spare. It’s worth it. " - candis mclean, alison kessler
"Walk the trail, or relax and take in picturesque views of the city at Schuylkill Banks Park and River Trail. Whether you’re planning a trip to relax with friends or hunger hits you while taking a stroll, stop by Rowhome Coffee’s Rittenhouse Square location. Its deli pretzel sandwiches are what Philly food dreams are made of, with Dietz and Watson Deli meats stuffed between two soft pretzels. You can also try its Pretzel Cheesesteak if you need a more substantial meal." - George Banks-Weston
