Google
A theater with tons of history, The Roxie is a nice choice if you're looking to watch a movie in the city. Came to watch The Colors Within and it was a good experience overall. I like that they have open seating, and their staff are friendly--you can tell everyone here is passionate. The space is clean and in good condition.

Google
Finally got a chance to watch a film at this historic and iconic landmark of San Francisco! The film selection here is all off the beaten path films from across the globe and across time itself and the crowds of movie lovers show up in droves and support this non-profit cinema theater

Google
Roxie, all that neon makes you a nice looking babe . You transport me from a world gone mad and help me find meaning through great films like About Dry Grasses, La Chimera, and the unforgettable Joyland. Yes, the theater could use a facelift : the repertory lineup has thinned—past auteurs are revived only when death strikes, like with Godard.

Google
Had such a great experience at the Roxie Theater! We accidentally walked into the wrong film, and the staff was incredibly kind and understanding. They not only refunded us but also gave us new tickets for the movie we originally intended to see. Truly top-notch customer service! The theater itself has such a cool, classic vibe. definitely a gem for film lovers. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
I really liked the atmosphere of the theatre and they even had the movie director show up which was cool. The audience made the movie great since no kids were being loud or adults talking through the whole movie. Just had a few people snoring but it was late lol.

Google
I rented out the Big Roxie for a company social event (screening of Moana). It was so simple to book with the Roxie and they made everything streamlined which I was so appreciative of. I just had to provide the film! Top it off with the open concessions and it was a great night for colleges and their families. It definitely has the charm and atmosphere we were looking for. Definitely recommend if you have a similar event. Plus, amazing food options right outside for either before or after the movies!

Google
Great movies, grea historical movie theater run by people who love film. They have the big one and the little one. The popcorn is good, and I think they serve beer. They have a lot of good projection gear, I just saw Wings of Desire and it looked beautiful. This was a DCP projection. Parking is San Francisco but I found one pretty easy. Close to Bart and bus. Plenty of bars and eateries in the area so you can make a night of it. Keep an eye on their schedule, it's generally a repertory theater with some longer runs depending on the movie. I come from the East Bay where once upon a Time Berkeley had 30 movie theaters. And now they're only down to the Elmwood Theater and it's barely hanging on. So patronize often.

Google
First of all, this place is always filthy on the sidewalk. It seems the owner doesn't care about our neighborhood. I would never pay to any movie in there and when they open the doors to this theater is does smell old. I don't know why people would pay and go into this old building?

Yelp
I love the Roxie Theater! They show the quirkiest movies that you can't see elsewhere. And I'm told that it looks exactly the same from someone who worked there a decade ago. There are technically two theaters with the cocktail bar Dalva in the middle. I have only chosen movies in the Little Roxie for some reason. It's a small, intimate theater that only fits maybe 40 people? It's pretty old school and old, but that's the charm of the Roxie! There are concessions for sale, and the employees are chill. I'm always down to catch a movie here!

Yelp
Great local theater with curated off-beat flicks. You are in the heart of the mission so grabbing a bite before hand is very easy. 2 single occupancy bathrooms on either side of the lobby. Great snack selections + beer. I have tried liking the popcorn but it's not for me. Love coming here and siting in a piece of history.

Yelp
Happy 110 years at the Roxie..here's to indie art house movie theaters in San Francisco..some exist and some have closed...today they presented the history of the theater and celebrated with food and cake..also soda lol..this historic event is fascinating..the worker showed us the old projection equipment..the party was sweet and the Oscars were played but now I am at home anyway..Here's to independent cinema in San Francisco..

Morrie G.

Yelp
It's indie and cute and super San Franciscan and whatever. I've seen some interesting films here, the bathrooms are always clean and service is good. Something I don't understand though is the very limited selection of Spanish language films (like, one RoxCine film per month?) despite its location in the Mission. Also, only the films with free screenings include a synopsis in Spanish on the RoxCine website (RoxCine being their selection of Spanish language films). Why is it that? Do they perceive some correlation between being a Spanish speaker and not being able to pay for a ticket, but if you can pay for a ticket then you can probably understand English? I noticed this when I shared a film's page on the Roxie website with my Spanish speaking friends to gauge interest. I had to find the film's description on a Spanish-language film site. Kind of a faux pas if you ask me, to say the least.

Yelp
INTIMATE THEATER SHOWING "REAL" MOVIES There is a lost connection between the audience and movie theaters. That has to do with the type of movies playing at the theater. I'm not a nostalgic, but I yearn for the days going to theaters. Last year I started going to the movie theaters to watch some classic movies. Why this theater? There was a Three Colors trilogy (Blue, White, and Red) - films that were made in the 1990s and set mostly in Paris - showing in early September. In a span of less than a week I saw those movies at Roxie Theater. Besides the movies to really enjoy your theater experience you need feel comfortable in your seat especially if the movies are over two hours. For those three days I never had complaints. Going to Roxie Theater to watch movies you get a different type of audience who really appreciates exceptional, quality movies whether they're classics or contemporaries such as the Three Colors trilogy.

Yelp
Went to the Roxie Theater for the Cat Video festival, which is the perfect venue for something like this. This community theater has got anime, John Woo, and beer. It's in a rough neighborhood, but I do like how close it is to BART.

Yelp
Wow! First time I seen a movie here and it's an adorable one screen neighborhood gem with old school vibes. It's a nice throwback to the golden age of movie going days. I love the cartoons about visiting your concession stand before movie starts. I haven't been to a movie house over a year since the Covid 19 pandemic started. It is one of the rare And the oldest continuously operating movie theaters in the United States. Sometimes you just don't want to go to a major movie complex which is a giant box literally without much character or personalization. The seats are comfortable and movie was great. I saw the Michelle Yeoh movie here and it's very well done fantasy, comedy, drama storyline. Makes one think of Spider-Man's multi universes. But Family is the heart of the "Everything Everywhere All at Once" movie. The Roxie Theater is located at 3117 16th Street at in San Francisco's historic Mission District. Great location for the 22 Fillmore and variety food options. Always support local if you can.

Yelp
It cannot be overstated; you -need- to get there early for concessions. Earlier than the suggested 15 minutes. I do not know what people were ordering, because all of them were taller than me, but I did actually get tired of waiting, and instead of grabbing a beer went in to grab a seat. And this was a Tuesday... Also. Big Roxie lives up to its name; it is a looooooong theater. I ended up in the back, and I did not feel like I was immersed in the movie. If you end up in the last few rows, I suggest bringing someone to make out with. Somehow, even though I felt like the experience would have been better with opera glasses, given my distance from the screen, it was still super loud. Like too loud, like glad-I-brought-my-Loop-earbuds loud... I kinda only want to give this place three stars, but I do want to support local theaters, and I don't want to drag down their rating just because of my lackluster experience. So next time I will be earlier, up front, inebriated, and hopefully not alone. :P

Yelp
The history of this theatre is really cool so definitely check it out! My partner and I came here to watch an anime movie because we're weebs! And I was surprised how packed it was. I really like the charm of this theatre (110 yrs old) and how you can drink some affordable beers. I like that it doesn't feel commercialized and has a more artsy/surrounded by film nerds vibe. My only gripes were how loud it was, they need to turn down the volume like a few notches. And the seats aren't super ergonomic. They don't have neck support which is brutal for folks like me who get back pain from sitting all day.
google avatar

Yelp
Great independent theater that shows current and classic independent movies. Well curated film schedule with there always being something exciting to see. Staff is friendly and enthusiastic about movies. Snacks are reasonably priced and they serve high quality coffee. Love coming here.

Yelp
Love me an independent theatre. I saw Eternal Sunshine on Valentine's Day and it was lovely. I love the uncomfortable-ish older theatre seats (compared to modern day cinemas) and I love the affordable snacks and most of all, I love attending a movie with people who like good films. It feels like a community.

Yelp
I came here for a movie premiere and had a great time! This was my first time every coming to this theater. I've heard of it for a very long time and didn't expect to be impressed. But I was. It's a rather small theater with a cute vibe. I loved the red carpet and the snacks they had inside. This theater is old school and reminds me of the theaters that I attended as a kid. The movie was easy to see and the sound was good. Additionally, I know that there were a lot of people in there and it didn't feel too crowded. I liked the candy bars, the popcorn, the sodas, and so on. I probably wouldn't come here again because it is in a part of San Francisco that I don't visit much. But if I were in the area and a movie was playing that I wanted to see, I would go.
google avatar

Melinda P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I literally ran to the theater since finding parking took so much longer that we expected. On our tickets, it said the doors to the theater closed within the first 15 minutes, but we were still able to get in after the first 17 minutes (lol). We really enjoyed our film! Roxie Theater offers movies that you don't really hear about- I only heard of our movie, Revolution of Our Times, because a friend told me about it & about the showing here. It was probably one of the best documentaries/film I have ever seen. The theater is definitely old, but it does the job. Despite the theater being old, I think I read somewhere that they renovated the seats as they were quite comfy! The staff at the theater were also super nice. I only docked one star because parking is impossible (but we were in SF, so I get it- parking is hard to come by there in general). Get there 30-60 min before your film so you can find parking and walk comfortably to the theater.

Yelp
The Roxie is sparkling like a shiny new penny! I grew up in the Mission District and have, over decades seen it go from a neighborhood place to a sadly rundown old gal to this newly revived gem. I don't live in The Mission anymore so I was skeptical about The Roxie, due to me memories of the location that I had, but I was excited to come in for the 50th Anniversary of Harold & Maude. I've never seen it on the big screen! (Note: If you haven't ever seen Harold and Maude then you are in for a treat, worthy of several viewings. I learn something new each time I see it) Back to The Roxie... The seats are all brand new. Roomy comfy, and rows spaced far enough apart to keep you from becoming an accordion-person for two hours. The Snack Bar caters to adult tastes; beer, wine, popcorn, and some other gourmet goodies. The Roxie is a hometown-small town feeling kind of place. The staff is courteous, the bathrooms are clean as a whistle, and the auditorium swept and tidy. In a world of multiplexes, mega-movies and mall environments, The Roxie harkens back to the kind of theaters we grew up with. Check their website and find something you've been meaning to see, and go!
google avatar

Yih R.

Yelp
Compared with a few other local theaters, Roxie's programs are bold and international. Although they play several regulars a lot, it doesn't reduce its effort to promote intercultural literacy and understanding. It is a form of education. I would encourage the team to curate more movies featuring some director what we don't normally get the chance to know and watch, Nuri Ceylán, Hshou XiaoXian, to name a few.

Ruth C.

Yelp
I couldn't love this theater more! Great independent films you won't see elsewhere, the absolute best popcorn with real butter, the charm of old SF movie theaters (most have closed sadly), and a lovely community feel. Plenty of great places to eat around there too. Only downside is lack of soundproofing, so sometimes you hear music & noises from the bar next door while watching movies (especially in the Little Roxy theater) - but all the good features outweigh this. It's the kind of place where you could just drop in and see whatever is playing, because they curate their offering well. If you're looking for a modern, renovated theater with the latest sound & visual technology then go somewhere else --- but The Roxy is a true gem for those who appreciate this kind of theater. Places like this make San Francisco what it is -- a wonderful, interesting place to live. We must support it if we want it to stay in business!
google avatar

Derek A.

Yelp
The place is great and I couldn't leave them less stars with good conscience, but it must be said (hopefully they have someone reading these reviews): they don't adjust their screen border for movies with different aspect ratios. If you know the difference this makes to your film going experience than you know that this is unacceptable. Some big chain theaters have adopted this practice, but our small beautiful independent classic theaters like these, who fight for the integrity of film in every other way, should take more care. Also their projector has a dead pixel, but that's a much more expensive fix than the correct aspect ratio borders.

Yelp
went here for a studio ghibli film. was very cute and enjoyable experience!! please show more studio ghibli films!!!

Yelp
I really love that this theater keeps the quirky and independent film scene alive. I came here to see Fantastic Fungi since it was the only theater playing the movie. The ticket was ~$15. I bought my ticket online about a week before the screening, which was good because the theater was sold out that night. It's a no frills type of place with two theaters. This isn't a big consideration other than I was really looking forward to having a beer (which I had read in other reviews that they serve beer here) but apparently it's only if you are in the Big theater. The Little theater (which is actually a door or two down from the main theater marquee) serves popcorn, a few snacks, and canned non-alcoholic drinks. There are two gender neutral restrooms. The screen is pretty small (relative to other theaters) but the room only seats like 30 people. Each row has one strange loveseat in addition to multiple standard seats. This caused some confusion for people who arrived after the movie had started since they weren't sure if they were to share. I don't know that I would go out of my way to come here but based on the films they have coming soon I think I will definitely be back.

Yelp
What a fun evening! It was so exciting to be in a movie auditorium that was sold-out, full, and energetic to see a film. This was their annual showing of my all-time favorite film Harold and Maude, and I was thrilled to see the theater full. The concession food were traditional, yet high quality. The patrons were aware of their surroundings and the importance of the event. The seats must have recently been refurbished, and the sound system updated because, though the film is from the seventies, the quality of the movie experience was more up-to-date than I might have expected. There is a formidable list of films upcoming, so you have lots of opportunities to patronize this classic theater, without suffering the indignities of an "old" movie house.

Yelp
Yesterday night I was fortunate to be invited to a preview screening of a documentary film "For Sama." The film was story-telling at it's finest. A young woman Waad is in Aleppo, Syria for school when her life is caught in the deadly trap that was the Syrian conflict. Bashir regime systematically attempts to surpress the Free Syria movement. He allows Russian fighter planes shoot and bomb areas of Aleppo that are concentrations of the Free Syria population. The cinematography is spectacular given the Waad is using a hand-held videocamera. There are aerial shots which indicate the use of a drone or two. You will witness the horror almost first hand. You are as close to seeing what is on the ground: destruction, the bodies of victims, chaos in the street. And yet you also are uplifted by the birth of an infant after the mother had gotten shot and is brought into the makeshift hospital. And later on in the story we learn that the Russians have started bombing of the hospitals. 8 of the 9 hospitals are destroyed. Sama, the baby girl of Waad, has an indomitable spirit. She grows over the course of the film and we feel apprehension that any moment Sama might be lost to the conflict, another life deemed collateral damage. You must make time to see this film, it is amazing. Check it out at ForSamaFilm.com And the Roxie is the perfect venue! Indie & classic with 290+ seating. Perfect for the #sffilm non-profit hosting the screening of this magnificent woman-made documentary. War from the perspective of a woman, wife, mother and global citizen ! @forsamaFilm

Yelp
This movie theater is over 100 years old and that makes it have its own special charm. It's really a SF landmark! The Roxie only has one theater in this location. You can get your tickets outside the front or online. Usually the tickets are pretty cheap ~$10. I recommend getting one of their movie passes if you're a big movie buff and live nearby. This theater is great because it hosts a ton of indie movies that you might not be able to see elsewhere. At the front, theres a counter where you can get classic movie theater snacks like popcorn and candy. You can also get beer and salt and straw ice cream! There's a good amount of seats in the theater, but it can get filled quickly so I recommend getting there early. For me, the screen was a tad too small for my liking, but you can just sit further front if needed.

Yelp
I recently went to the Roxie Theater to see the film "Nico Icon" about the life of the German model turned musician. The Roxie holds about 200 people & just about any seat is good. The bathroom is clean. I loathe the majority of modern day mainstream blockbuster movies w/ big budgets & heaps of special effects. I like the movies that are shown here as they are more my speed. This month the Roxie will show "Buffalo '66" which I love along w/ the classic Spike Lee film "Malcom X" which has a bumping soundtrack. This month the Roxie will also show "Leonard Cohen: Bird on a Wire" & "Burroughs: the Movie" about the life of beat author William S. Burroughs. The Roxie is also a short walk from the stellar vegan Asian Fusion restaurant Indochine. There were introductions about the film prior to it's showing. Nice touch yet the sound quality & acoustics could have been better on the initial introductions yet the sound quality of the actual film was just fine. "Nico Icon" was a brilliant film albeit on the dark side about the legend who was a part of one of my favorite albums of all time "Velvet Underground & Nico". I enjoyed the few solo albums by Nico I have heard of her notably Chelsea Girl. Nico was a lover of both Jim Morrison & Iggy Pop. Long live Nico & I will return to the Roxie for another film soon!

Yelp
I like very much this theater. Before the COVID I went very often to see movie which is disturbing and funny and weird. Many subtitles always (we call "sottotitoli" in Italy). My girlfriend Gianna smokes marajuana and we go. I don't approve, drugs are bad. But she is my Gianna and I love her.

Yelp
Lex Sloan "runs" rentals and is the most deeply inconsiderate human I have met in over a decade of renting spaces across CA. Lex's inability to communicate turns a simple rental process into an insurmountable challenge, and their capacity to waste another human's time without care or worry is unmatched. They are a heartless jerk hiding their ineptitude behind fake appreciation and empty apology. (If only they were half as as good at their job as they are at avoiding it!) Lex actively and knowingly wasted my time from January until now (October), missing every single call that *they scheduled* AND flat out ignoring all reminder messages *that they asked me to send them* while bread-crumbing me with responses like "thanks for following up sorry" or (literally) "I think about you every day before I leave and kick myself for not replying!" sprinkled every multiple follow up. When we finally met, we had success. We selected a rental date for my film (Hardly Strictly Bluegrass weekend, so we immediately pushed it up a week) and Lex summarized: "We can move it to the weekend before...The team is on board...we are planning to book the film...As long as there is no problem booking the film we are all set." LIAR. Keep in mind that getting to this point took many months of Lex *actively thanking me* for my "tenacity and patience" in keeping on them. Aaaaand Lex *immediately* went fully radio silent again...ignoring ALL follow up messages (even replies to questions they asked). Lex only replied *4 MONTHS* later, *because I cc-ed a coworker as asked by an out of office reply*. And the reply was to gaslight: "I am sorry for the misunderstanding - we never booked the film or confirmed a date" and a false "I take full responsibility" before the true, passive aggressive message: "we completely understand if you would rather find another venue that can be more responsive and available." The overwhelmed-by-life-itself shrinking violet of sensitivity that Lex presents is false. They are actually a cold hearted snake hiding their rotten self behind meaningless words. Lex bread-crumbed me January to October 2022 with appreciation for following up without ever having intention to complete the rental. Mind bogglingly unprofessional; not even decently human. I should have known Lex was bad when they talked sh*t about coworkers. (FYI: If you threatened to quit if Sing-Alongs came, Lex thinks you're a whiner whose voice shouldn't matter who should be grateful to have your jobs. If you clean up the cinema, Lex thinks you do a poor job. If you run concessions, Lex suspects you're not fully trustworthy. If you're in operations, Lex thinks you don't support them enough, feeling like the only one at the Roxie with their head on properly. If you are part of the approval team, Lex thinks you are an unnecessary step. This human is toxic and I feel deeply sorry for anyone forced to interact with them.) UPDATE: the whole place is fake! This email from Lex's coworker (not even Lex) is a textbook example of gaslighting. (Keep in mind, the only goal was to rent a rental space, in cash, for two hours, bringing an assistant to help it run smoothly and clean up. The Roxie made taking money for the most flexible, simplest 2 hours ever into an emotional fraught battle of false promises and fake appreciation. What the flying f*ck is wrong with these people?!) -- *thank you for thinking about The Roxie for your event, and I am sorry the booking was not finalized for September.  (I am so flexible I said any date in 2023 would do now that Lex forgot to pull the trigger for 2022.) *Unfortunately, it seems that there's too big of a disconnect between what we can offer and what you really need. (I require nothing. It's a film. Just needs a screen. And I bring my own cleaning crew. Entire thing done in two hours. Two. Hours.) *I have looked at this situation from different angles but in this new "post-pandemic" landscape we can't book an event like yours on weekend slots more than a month in advance at the moment (and a month in advance would still be a highly unlikely scenario). (Using the pandemic as an excuse to say word salad nonsense is *pathetic*.) *So while we'd love to host your event, we have to be honest with ourselves and you. We're not the right fit. (I need only a screen for a two hour film *they already approved*, I bring my own cleaning crew and pay rentals in cash in full. The Roxie is so full of sh*t here it spins the mind.) Only special types of jerks can be so triggered by someone following up on their literal job function that they gaslight a client out of giving them money. EDIT: more fakery: website says "The Roxie Theater respectfully acknowledges our cinema is located...on the unceded, traditional Tribal lands of the Ramaytush & Muwekma Ohlone people." yet there are ZERO programs to give free passes, discounts, OR support to ANY members of ANY tribe. The Roxie: inept, gaslighting a$$holes.

Yelp
This theater has been here before I was born and remains the few dinosaurs of San Francisco which shows movies. The theater is small but it has lots of great independent films.I like the fact they sell beer at the Roxie.

Denis S.

Yelp
Just want to say that I don't know if you respect the security rules for fire. When your theater is full of people there is certainly not enough emergency exits. The fire in your building will be a big désaster. Denis victor Sanchez

Yelp
Old theatre with a ton of personality but the staff sucks. Attitude on blast! (looking at you Box office redhead and concession help) Not the kind of experience you expect from a non-profit that wants donations. The highlight- you can have a beer with your movie. I had planned to join but I can think of better things to support.

Benjamin D.

Yelp
They have good taste in selecting movies. All of their movies are not mainstream nor commercial. I can always find hidden gems being shown there and never get disappointed. A lot of their movies tell real story, I was touched and I could feel the emotion of the message that the movie try to send out. I will go and support a local business like this, especially in Pandemic. Local Business need our support.

Yelp
Great staff, cozy vibe, parking nearby, great prices, lots of good snacks, clean bathrooms and a lot of restaurants around the area. Good location to meet a group of friends or date night and have dinner, drinks and a movie within walking distance. Always happy to come back.

Yelp
A real San Franciscan Art House Institution. The ladies that run this theater are stellar. The Roxie is awesome! Clean, quaint, old fashioned sodas and concessions. REAL organic butter on FRESH popped popcorn. Popcorn so fresh you gotta wait a couple minutes for it. COLD filtered water fountain. Clean bathrooms. YUH! Pro Tips: 1. Roxie doesn't open its doors until 30 minutes prior to the show. EVEN if there is a special event, doors still don't open early. But, lines do form and people do wait. 2. Recently came to view the Donnie Darko 15 year anniversary cut with a Director Q & A with Richard Kelly. Roxie organized a solid event with 80s videos blasting 45 minutes prior to the introduction. I scored an aisle seat. Richard Kelly was relaxed, sweet, and genuinely connected to his audience. Roxie didn't pack people in like sardines. The event was breezy and easy. They do a fine job here. 3. For all special Art House events I suggest purchasing tickets as soon as they go on sale. They sell out fast. 4. If you can, print tickets ahead of time. Especially for special events. 5. The seats are old. Not the most comfortable. Bring a small pillow for arch support.

Yelp
I have been a fan of the Roxie for several years now, and I think the best part is that they offer a wide range of fascinating film series/events. Whether's it's their annual film noir series, their director retrospectives (like the recent ones for Pedro Almodóvar and Paul Verhoeven), or their video sing-alongs, I always end up having a fun and unique movie watching experience. They offer the usual concessions (including fresh popcorn with real butter), and if you like alcohol with your movie, you can purchase beer. I've enjoyed viewings at both the big and little Roxie, and you can buy your tickets online (you could also purchase a membership if you want to support the theater). If you are a fan of indie theaters, you will love the Roxie!

Yelp
Caught the jimi hendrix atlanta pop doc here and it's a sweet little theatre. They've got a good beer selection and it's full of the sort of old folks (at least when I went) that would go see the jimi hendrix atlanta pop doc. So pretty sweet, I'd say.

Yelp
I know this is an old venue, and that is perfectly fine. hence I have no expectations of air conditioning on a hot August day, but please get a bigger fan. It's hot and stuffy in there Left 30 mins into the movie

Yelp
Watched the Green Knight here. Amazing theater with great sound. Wish they had lights on the floor though. It was hard finding our seats in the dark

Yelp
The seats are old, but that should be forgiven as you're coming here for arty or classic movies, often the way they were "meant to be seen" on real film, and from that standpoint it's 5 stars. The screen itself isn't that large compared to the Castro, and it might even be smaller than the smaller screens at the Drafthouse. But again - you're coming for the content and the artsy charm. You should also come for the popcorn because it's quite good with butter and seems to melt in your mouth. You get a free small one every visit if you're a member, in addition to being able to see most movies for free. The overall concession stand is small but solid; there's beer and cider and candy and ice cream, and none of it is as absurdly expensive as it is at multiplexes. If you've never been here, it should be right on top of your list with other artistic venues like the MoMa.

Yelp
Of course this carries the bias of the Yelp event. Freeway was an excellent film and the Roxie was an excellent venue for the viewing. As the management mentioned, they're hoping the renovations will continue t oadd to the funky , quirky charm. My only half star off gripe is for the old seats (going to be upgraded) which are a tad small. My shoulders hung over the adjacent seats and I was lucky the one to the left had no one in it while the one on the right had someone who's used to my shoulder being a pillow. I've frequented the neighborhood for years now and am really quite unsure why this would be my first time seeing a movie here. For shame eh? Well if they keep showing cult classics like Freeway and finish their renovations I'll definitely be a repeat customer!

Yelp
I can't really complain about a free kids frameline movie. The goody bag was fun. I think we have to give OFC credit for that. They didn't have anything healthy for kids to eat. I guess most movie theaters don't. The seats were also not very kid friendly. Very comfortable for adults. Nice Area. Great crowd. Like I said in the beginning, can't complain about the price.

Yelp
Throwback movie house in the heart of The Mission. This place is decades old and that's part of the charm. Cool documentaries, classic theme nights, and independents you didn't know existed grace the screen. If you want to see great 'films', and not just the latest 'blockbuster movie' the Roxie is for you! Support this amazing place!

Yelp
such a good place for independent movies. It was my first time there and the vibe is good. I heard they play movies for dogs too, it is cool . tip: it is hard to find a parking sometimes if you are going with car, make sure to be there earlier

Yelp
Little theater with a lot of character. Always an interesting selection of films. We've really enjoyed the shows we've seen here and have taken home some cool posters for a few. Ticket prices are the lowest in the city and concessions are also fairly priced. If you're looking for a cozy theater with a community vibe, this is your place!

Yelp
It's a dainty place to see a (only one theater) cool film, but I recommend avoiding the kind of film that you need to hear everything, since the crowd can very easily drown the speakers out. This means something as basic as laughter renders the film inaudible. Also, if the guy sitting 4 rows ahead of me were an inch taller, I wouldn't have been able to see most of the screen. I'm not /that/ short, but the screen is low and the seats are in a relatively flat arrangement. That being said, it's an old theater, so it was pretty much something I expected. I do admire them for showing movies no one else shows, but they're in a sore need of basic upgrades. Did not try the other amenities, but they had some higher end offerings that come from local producers.

Yelp
-just the path walking from bart station to the theater smells really awful but it's mission district -cushion seating is a thick one -indie film paradise

Yelp
Came here for CAAMFest. A single screen small theater from the old days. Seats were adequate, cushions were worn a bit. Miniscule lobby with snack bar. Tiny (but clean) bathrooms flanking the entrance/exit. Great neighborhood with plenty of places to eat before and after the show. A mere block and a half from BART 16th Street/Mission.

Yelp
Soon to be offering BEER! You heard it here first. Always interesting programming of flicks not found in the ubiquitous multiplex. Even if I've never visited without wishing I could power wash the interior, who wouldn't love a good movie and a BEER?

Yelp
I recently moved to SF from LA, & I miss the film scene. I was lucky enough to come across this small theater with a great selection of indie, international, & nostalgic films. I watched the Studio Ghibli film, "Ocean Waves' here. The old 35mm screen, small house, & older decor give the place a really nostalgic feel. Concessions aren't super cheap, but they're better than larger movie franchises, & the beer option is pretty cool to have. This is a great place to come alone, with a friend, or a group. I like that it's nonprofit & really cares about growing the film community in the city. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Yelp
Such a GEM of culture and history in this rapidly changing city. It really transports you to different time. The old school theatre still boasts excitement and allure, the small space, incredible movie selection of unique and independent films, and person popping the popcorn at the booth make for a really great movie experience. I hope this place stays the same forever!

Yelp
I like this theater for the type of movies it shows (we watched the newest Japanese remake of Godzilla) and because it's a non-profit theater. I also like how helpful the staff is and how they greet you like we are valuable! It's an old theater and so don't expect a spacious concession stand! They don't have water and instead have sparkling water. The popcorn will also take some time, but they do their best in popping it the "old school" way! They also didn't send us a confirmation email of our tickets, but when we gave our name and ID, they were able to give us our tickets that we purchased beforehand. The seats were less comfortable for me and the seats were not elevated enough or positioned well enough that made my viewing comfortable. I often had to lean towards the left or right to get a good view of the screen, which probably made the person on my right feel uncomfortable. There was only one screen and there was one bathroom. All of these things though made this theater more unique, and a theater to go to once in a while! It is conveniently located close to the 16th Bart Station!

Yelp
Went here on the night of the sing-a-long Morrisey show. Sold out in a matter of 2 days. We were lucky enough to get tickets. Great event, but a little on the loud side, thank goodness for my earplugs. They played music videos that had the words so you can keep up. There was a look alike contest in the beginning. People were dancing in the aisles the whole night. Minus one star for the single female bathroom. What a mess! What if you had to poop? Well, all the other girls full of beer are going to mad dog you as come out. I'm sorry but it's not the best situation. Get your bano on before you go here, or go in between the flick.
