An inn and a restaurant. Tony and Chef Marco Pierre White had "a pan-roasted filet of beef with escargot; pig's trotter a la Pierre Koffman. The chef raises the pigs on the grounds of the inn.

Lovely surroundings, despite being early spring. Happy with our room and appreciate the artworks and design. Staff were pleasant, generally quietly spoken and slightly reserved. What's disappointing about our experience, is how the menu is designed: Most of the meals are included in your package weekend. Some are not and you can be caught out if you're not paying attention. Some meals are served as a "meat only" dish and your sides, like chips, salad or veg are charged at £4 per side. Alcohol and soft drinks are ridiculously expensive. Included breakfast is a choice of porridge or mushrooms or avocado on toast with 2 poached eggs. There are a couple of other options that I cannot remember. A full English breakfast is an extra £6.50. My view is, get rid of the "stealth" pricing and put together a package that is transparent to guests. Also, consider your mark up on drinks.

We booked a room with dinner and breakfast as a special mid week treat. The property is well situated and the house is well laid out (although the decor is a bit strange). Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with the service. The new manager was rude. When we ordered our meal she belittle our choices (we both chose the same dishes) and was extremely unfriendly during the stay and on check out. The experience of the restaurant was fine, but expect up scale pub grub not accomplished restaurant standard. Overall, I would not come back and would definitely not recommend to a friend. It felt like they were trading on the reputation alone.

Had an overnight stay here this week. Room was in the Treetops building. Room was clean, pleasant and a reasonable size. Had dinner in the restaurant with drinks before hand. Drinks were good but very pricey. Dinner was lovely, having read some negative reviews on here, we thought it was very good. Breakfast was also good and full English not really needed. Staff were lovely and service was excellent, love the look of the hotel and the grounds, a great getaway

Pleased to say our experience wasn't like some of the negative reviews here. £150 for a great standard and clean hotel room, dinner for two and a great breakfast is brilliant value. Yes, it's misleading having Marco's name on the door as it's clearly not a top quality restaurant (you'd pay more than £150 for two for a Michelin* meal), but for the money it's really great value.

I had read many reviews of this hotel prior to going and wished I'd have read them before I bought the voucher!!!! Many of the points raised by previous guests were very accurate. The staff were on the whole friendly and helpful although also forgetful. The waitress delivering our teas at the end of the meal said she couldn't say which of the pots of tea was decaffeinated as she hadn't made them. I had to refuse them as caffeine would have kept me awake all night and there was a 50/50 chance of me drinking the wrong one. This made us laugh!!!!!!! The menus did change on the 2nd night but only to remove a choice, leaving just 3 choices which didn't attract a supplement. In our opinion the menu was unexciting and the toasted soda bread was as hard as a bullet!! What's the fascination for soda bread?? 3 of the 4 starters were a form.of pate. I thought tasting menus offered small portions of various foods to try. The Game pie and Fishcake available for mains were good sized portions and sufficient without buying any if the supplement attracting sides. Breakfasts although not full English (available at a supplement) were again sufficient and toast also served. I would have liked the food to be outstanding, it wasn't. The room was as hot as hell and I'm so pleased that we took a fan with us otherwise I'd have had no sleep at all. Obviously the temperature is not something the hotel can control but if we're getting summers like this in future I'll look for air conditioning before I book. Our room in the Treetops annex was large and bright but dusty in places almost as though it hadn't been used for a while. White feathers on the carpet from the bedding so not vacuumed properly either. Handles missing off the drawers of the one bedside cabinet and a small table housing a pile of books as well as dusty, the top wasn't bolted to the legs!! Discovered when moved it to put the fan a bit higher off the floor. Bedding was lovely and towels soft and fluffy but no complimentary shower gel 😢 I could go on further but I don't think it will change anything as comments have been ignored for some time. This is a money making machine, I'm so glad I had a voucher as I'd have felt completely ripped off if I'd paid full price. Attention to detail is lacking for such a good class of accommodation, shame it could be perfect as the situation is lovely. We enjoyed our experience staying here, didn't see Mr White although his car was there on our first night. Would I recommend it,no,I don't think I would. I'd advise looking elsewhere in the area. I did take photos of dusty furniture but thought better of posting them.

The experience was very much mixed. No obvious reception (wandered round the grounds and had to ask a tradesman). Once we checked in, the room was quirky, warm and charming. The evening dining experience was a real let down, long wait to take an order (Staff were taking orders from tables that arrived after us), once we managed to wave someone down to take our order it was another wait for our starters. The Prawn Cocktail was like it was served in sea water, the main course of fish pie was even saltier. Both inedible, and we left before the Dessert. Breakfast was a completely different matter, we were seated and orders taken very quickly and our breakfasts brought out minutes later. Absolutely fantastic breakfast, with fresh and high quality ingredients. Would go back as a Bed and Breakfast.

DO NOT STAY HERE. Filled in a form to say when I would be checked in and turned up to be told to sit and wait and was never collected. Couple in front of me got to specify times when they ate where as I was told what time I had to have dinner and breakfast. When shown our room was told would be on a tour but wasn't even told the photographers art in our room or any information about the Manor house until I looked at a plaque and googled. If you haven't booked Manor House they will take you outside to a different place which was frustrating many people as not obviously specified. Nothing to do from 3pm, a short 10 min walk round then done. Staff were so rude! I mentioned our light didn't work in the room and was told "ok" and we went to bed at half 8 as it was so dark. Food was fine, picture shows how unaccomodating it was, saying it will charge 99 pounds if you want more food. On check out the reception didn't even open as staff hadn't turned up. Eventually got to check out with couple in front of us saying they wanted to cancel their 2 night stay as they thought 1 night was awful, that should tell you all you need to know. Would not recommend, even on a deal! Have sent emails for over a week to discuss this but have been ignored and when I called was told to email.

Stunning, quirky hotel - we were so excited and looking forward to our MPW experience. Let's mention all the great things that made me want to give the hotel 3 stars.....ambience, atmosphere, decor and most importantly, the food, which was mainly delightful. The lamb soup was tasty but oh too salty, and the same could be said for the salmon fishcake. The service is appalling, the worst I have ever experienced...anywhere! check in was atrocious, food served 50 mins after sitting down for breakfast, with several other tables complaining too. Dinner served 90 mins after sitting down. No apologies and no check back regarding food satisfaction, in fact, we were not asked once throughout our entire stay if everything was ok. I guess the arrogance of the quote at the bottom of the breakfast menu says it all...'Should you need to order another breakfast, you will be charged £99 with a 45 min wait'!!!! Well, at least we'd have got it served to us a bit sooner! Heating in the room didn't work and there's no phone to call reception, and generally we couldn't find a member of staff on reception either. When we checked in we were told our meal times, without any choice and when we arrived for dinner at our allocated time, we were told to go and wait in the bar, where there was no-one there to serve a drink. There are a lot of young staff who do not appear to have been trained and the slightly older female staff were abrupt and rude. Savannah was the only saving grace, who had apparently only been there for three weeks....she deserves to be elsewhere with her helpful, friendly and approachable manner. Come on, Marco, you need to up your game when it comes to your front of house staff. We go on holiday to feel that we are experiencing a treat, but not with manners, reception and service like that!
