Houston Chef Bruce Molzan Arrested on Charges of Indecency With a Child | Eater Houston

"A Houston restaurant owned by chef-restaurateur Bruce Molzan has been at the center of recent legal turmoil: Molzan was arrested on April 4 and booked the following day on two counts of indecency with a child, paid $10,000 bond for each charge on April 6, and was released ahead of arraignment. At a hearing he was accused of sexually assaulting two children under 17, allegations his attorney Joel Androphy has denied, calling them false complaints filed to gain leverage in a child custody dispute and saying they expect the grand jury will decline to indict. The owner was previously implicated in a seafood-smuggling investigation by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department that led to more than 200 Class C misdemeanor citations, and he filed a 2017 lawsuit alleging assault by his ex-wife’s new husband (litigation still pending). A judge has barred him from internet and cell-phone use but permitted him to travel to and from the restaurant to work." - Amy McCarthy

This place is such a cute little spot and I am so glad we decided to try it. From the moment we walked in, the vibe just felt right. It has that cozy and welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. The décor is really nice, the lighting is warm, and the music fits perfectly without being too loud. The food was honestly so good. Everything we ordered had great flavor and tasted fresh. You can tell they actually care about what they are serving. The appetizers were delicious, and the main dishes were cooked just right. The drinks were also really impressive, both in how they looked and how they tasted. The staff was super friendly and made the whole experience even better. They checked in often enough to make sure we had what we needed but never made us feel rushed. It really felt like they wanted us to enjoy ourselves. We have not been back yet, but we definitely plan to. I still recommend this spot to friends who visit from out of town. If you are looking for good food, good drinks, and a chill atmosphere, give this place a try. You will not regret it.

Google
Ruggles Black is awesome, especially if you’re into keto or paleo eating without giving up great food. Their menu is thoughtfully done, with tons of legit keto and paleo options that actually taste amazing. Everything we had was excellent, but the Keto Hot Fudge Sundae (pictured) was the standout. Real keto ice cream, rich hot fudge, and no “diet dessert” vibes at all — just straight-up good. Great food, great atmosphere, and a place where you can eat clean and still enjoy it. Very impressed and we’ll definitely be back.

Angelina was such a great server and took great care of my bestfriend and I!! Will definitely be back and if you’re in town you have to try this place!!! The fried oysters changed my life and the butter chicken pasta makes me want to move back to Houston!! My bestie is keto and we both throughly enjoyed our food <3 Will be back and soon for the flavors and the vibes

So many amazing delicious choices. The food is out of this world, bursting with flavor. Many healthy paleo and keto options too that don’t sacrifice tastiness. The environment and decor is also tasteful and exquisite. Staff is wonderful. Gabriel, our waiter, was awesome, attentive and helpful. 10000% recommend. It’s one of my new favorite spots.

Let me make this VERY clear: I do NOT like seafood. I avoid it like bad credit. But that Pistachio Snapper at Ruggles Black? Man… listen. That fish had no business being that good. I took one bite and immediately started questioning my entire personality. I said, “Hold up… do I like seafood now? Or is this just THAT fire? I still don’t like seafood but I won’t mind getting the snapper 🫣 Perfect taste, perfect flavor, perfectly disrespectful to every seafood dish that ever disappointed me. That snapper was hitting so hard I almost apologized to all the fish I talked bad about. The vibe at the restaurant is crazy good, the service is on point, and the food comes out looking like it got styled by a professional food photographer. If a person who doesn’t even LIKE seafood is telling you to order the snapper… just trust me. Ruggles Black, y’all did y’all thing. And shoutout to the servers, they were on point the whole night. Friendly and fast. Drinks stayed full, plates came out smooth, and they checked on us just enough without doing that weird “hovering” thing. Real customer service pros.

Google
We had the best time. Such a romantic and amazing restaurant! Food was freaking phenomenal. The menu has the most amazing concoctions. I had lamb stroganoff and my fiancé had ribeye. We might move to Houston for this place alone lol! Simon was our server and he was amazing. He had the best product and menu knowledge and we cannot wait to come back!

Google
I Highly recommend this restaurant! Everything is so tasty including the delicious dessert. The ambience is pretty incredible as well. The service was great and Gabriel was great and so friendly. Go hungry because you will want it all.

Google
Ruggles Black is a good atmosphere-based place! The food is absolutely delicious and even though the prices are a bit above average, the quality of the food is absolutely worth it. We got the Goat Cheese stuffed Chicken, and that was absolutely DELICIOUS! The pizza was also really good, and the Butter Chicken Pasta was a mix between curry style and Italian. Overall, this place is highly recommended for a nice dinner night out, and we honestly enjoyed it A LOT. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Food was amazing and so was service. I'm low vision and can't see in the dark. I went to the bathroom and there lobby to it was dark. I could not see in there and there was no braille on the signs to tell which was which. There not ADA compliment

Yelp
This place... just incredible! So beautiful and chic! We began the evening celebrating a friend of ours 50th birthday at another restaurant. We decided to go somewhere for dessert to keep the party going. I called here last minute, and they were booked, but said we were welcome to sit on the patio. We arrived, and it was raining. They did everything possible to accommodate us and actually got us a table! (It was still early evening) ... the management was just amazing. Huma took care of all of that, and our server Brooke was exceptional! We ordered quite a few desserts and coffees, and everyone LOVED them all! We can't wait to go back! Seriously there are no words for the dessert tray. The choices are endless and each one looks like heaven. I hope my pictures depict a little bit of it! Don't sleep on this incredible place!

Yelp
I came for HRW and, unfortunately, was not very impressed by the food. I will preface by saying that I did not come in knowing that the restaurant was a health-conscious establishment. I appreciated the numerous paleo and keto options available for individuals with dietary restrictions, as well as the extensive HRW menu. However, the healthy substitutes were very noticeable with certain dishes. I shared with a friend and we got the calamari and the paleo short rib taco to start. We got the tandoori pepper crusted grassfed filet mignon with garlic jalepeno chive butter and the fresh made pasta with sausage, chicken, and short rib for our mains. For dessert, we had the paleo lemon cheesecake and the tres leches. The calamari was solid. It was crispy and I liked how it came with 3 different sauces. My favorite was the creamy tartar- like sauce. (6.5/10) The paleo short rib taco was also tasty. Though I was weary about the tortilla substitute, the flavors of the fresh veggies and sauce with the short rib were very nice. My only wish was that the order came with more than one taco. (7/10) The filet mignon was also solid. The meat itself was tender; however, the portion was very small, which was quite noticeable, especially when served on such a large plate. The vegetables on the side also came in such a small portion and were just boiled, so nothing special. The mashed cauliflower had a weird aftertaste and was disappointing to me because I was expecting velvety mashed potatoes. (5.5/10) The pasta was okay. I liked how they included a lot of protein as promised by the name of the dish. However, I did not love the choice of angel hair pasta for this dish, and the tomato sauce was pretty basic. (5/10) The paleo lemon cheesecake was my preferred dessert out of the two. It had a great lemon flavor and was the right balance of sweet and tart. The only thing I didn't love was the coconut cream on top. I'd prefer a normal whipped cream. (6/10) The tres leches was okay. I thought the sponge cake was moist but not soaked in the milk like I'd expect for a tres leches. I was also confused about the sauces that they incorporated on the side of the dish. I didn't feel as though they enhanced the dessert at all. (5/10) Overall, the service was good and the valets were very kind. Parking is valet only, which is a $5 charge. The ambiance is really nice with the dim lighting and chandeliers to give it more of an upscale vibe. Unfortunately, despite the grand looks, the food did not wow me in the same way. Though it was not necessarily my cup of tea, I think it is a good option for those who have dietary restrictions and are looking for a nice place to have dinner.

Yelp
My first time returning back to this place in a while. Met a friend for HRW. I see they moved locations from down the street off the freeway. The hostess told me they moved locations to this one 3 years ago. I also inquired on what happened to Ruggles on the Green. She states those turned in to Bella green (or Sweet Green). Parking- is valet only. No self park option. But maybe you could find something down the street or in a neighborhood? They have regular parking for $5, and VIP parking for $10. Still unclear on the difference of the two besides the $$. The decor was cute, nicely designed for an elevated look. It's divided between bar seating with natural sunlight. And the dinning area more moody and dim with chandeliers all over. Service - was amazing thanks to Jose! 5 stars on him. He anticipated our needs, was warm friendly and provided excellent service. Please give this man a raise! Food- First course was there tomatoe basil bisque. I love soup, and gobbled this down in minutes. I liked the blanched carrots as a topping of the soup. Was very tasty. My main entree was the Chilean Sea Bass with mixed veg. Came out hot hot hot and good. Last was the keto lemon cheesecake. I was pretty full from the soup and the sea bass. But somehow I rationalized that the cheesecake was too small of a piece to take home, so just decided to eat it there. I left stuffed! We stayed there late and they never rushed us out. Thank you Ruggles!

Yelp
Heard a lot about this place so we were excited to be here. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice. Service was a bit lacking. We were there for lunch, the restaurant is not packed but our servers were definitely not visible when needed. We had a table for 12. When came to food , presentation was Ok but the food was not that great at all. Overall experience was not impressive. By the way, they only have valet parking at the restaurant and it costs $5 during lunch hours. I was told $10 at nite.

Yelp
The ample keto and Paleo menu options caught my attention when I came across Ruggles Black on the Houston Restaurant Week menu and I had to try them out. Upon arrival the valets were super polite and helpful. Walked inside and the hostess was also super sweet. She sat us at our table. Shortly after we were greeted by the very best server, Jose! From start to finish he was so warm, welcoming, calm, polite, helpful, friendly but not too chatty, great at anticipating our needs, knowledgeable about the menu. He was basically perfect and my ideal server. The food was delicious. For my first course I had their tomato basil soup. It was the perfect portion size, super flavorful and just the right temperature, warming me up in the slightly cool restaurant as I sat there in my sleeveless shirt and Bermuda length shorts. My second and main course was their incredible grilled chicken breast with avocado lime cilantro tequila butter. It came with a side of mashed cauliflower and mixed sauteed vegetables. The chicken breast was also a perfect portion, kinda big which is always a lovely surprise during restaurant week. It was so juicy, tender and had so much flavor. The lime cilantro tequila butter was amazing and perfectly complimented the chicken. I dragged some of my veggies and mashed cauliflower in the butter as well and it tasted so good on those too. The best part, the meal had no impact on my glucose at all. It remained in a perfectly healthy range. Well that's until I ate my third course, their delectible white chocolate bread pudding but that was to be expected. The pudding was a smaller portion size for HRW. It was warm and melted in my mouth along with the small ice cream scoop they placed on top. It also came with a strawberry mint garnish that I also gobbled down. All courses of my food were perfect Also the restaurant is beautiful inside. Although they light actual candles at each table and the wax started spilling onto our table during our meal. Pro tip: Stick with the $5 valet parking. There is zero difference between the $5 parking and the $10 VIP parking. I sprang for VIP, while my friend got the $5 parking and they actually parked her car a little closer than mine.

Yelp
Made resy ahead of time and was able to get seated right away. Came during lunch and for their HRW 2025 menu. It is a very healthy restaurant (paleo, gluten free, vegetarian friendly). For HRW, got the Brussels Sprouts (pretty good balsamic flavoring and had some crisp), Chicken Parmesan (pretty average tasting) and the bread pudding (i was most disappointed that they added the strawberry syrup on top of the ice cream instead of on the side as optional). Not busy during lunch time on a friday. Restroom - clean Parking - $6 valet (card) and $5 valet (cash)

Yelp
Service is amazing, they are very quick and friendly. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, I love the art on the walls. The food was okay & overpriced I fear... lots of vegan options and great drinks though!

Yelp
I had been here years ago ( in another location) and enjoyed it but maybe my palette has changed - back this time for a work trip and found it reminded me of wedding food! Lovely service throughout - began with a French75 that was too sweet and not cold enough then we all shared appetizers! They were okay but not fabulous- calamari which is not my favorite dish turned out to be the thing! Had Ahi as my main course - it was okay but the sweet potato slice on the dish was better. As we ended they brought one of those fake dessert trays you used to see at chain restaurants maybe 15 years ago! They had way too many offerings which was reflected in the quality - I got a tiramisu - or at least that was what they called it! It has zero coffee that I could taste and appeared to be a brownie base not ladyfingers and cool whip! Weird and bad! Did not eat it! Not bad, not good but not for me !

Yelp
We had a really great experience at Ruggles Black. When we walked in, we did not realize how nice the atmosphere would be. It was a wonderful dining experience. The service was excellent and our waiter Lenard gave us all of the great suggestions. The goat cheese salad was phenomenal and was quite filling. The pepporoni pizza was solid but a little bit greasy for my preference. When you go, ask to see the dessert tray and get the Charlotes Web. It was one of the best desserts I have ever had. Note- There is valet at the restaurant for $5. I did not see any self park option.

Yelp
Dillon: Sun Tzu once said, "Never order a burger at a non-burger place". After not eating all day, i was really excited to finally have a great meal that i was looking forward to. I got the burger. It came with a fried egg and bacon which are my favorite burger toppings. If nothing else, most restaurants will get this right, it was not very good. I asked for medium rare but the meat was mealy, soggy, and undercooked. The egg was overcooked and cold. The service was pretty mid for such an upscale and expensive place, we were left alone for quite some time. The rating would be lower if not for the outstanding beef empanadas and the paleo chicken wings. Also, I'm glad they use such high quality ingredients and oils. They say hunger is the best spice, but I guess that wasn't on their ingredient list tonight. Aneena: As someone who's not very picky, the burger I was served wasnt the best. The meat wasn't cooked as well as l'd like and the fried egg was far too overcooked and cold. The best parts of my meal were the sweet potato fries that came as a side and the chicken wing appetizer. The venue was beautiful and the service was nice!

Yelp
My favorite menu item at Ruggles Black. Very tasty fried oysters with jalapeño mayo and caviar.

Yelp
Ruggles Black has been on my list for a while. Went during lunch on a week day. It was prettt packed during lunch but after the rush it was empty. Parking is Vallet, it's pay what you want ( I suggest at least 5) Service is very good! Our waiter who I cannot for the life of me remember ( young tall white gentleman with blond hair ) very attentive . Helped me pick my food , didn't bother my friend and I , waters always filled. Just great service The ambiance is of course instagramable the spot is small but background is cute for a nice pic with your dinner and friends Calamari was solid - comes with 3 sauces . I only like 1 out of the 3 sauces but your taste may be different Lamb burger - super filling and loved all the toppings I legit was so full. Burger came with sweet potatoes fries - fried and season perfectly Great overall meal

Yelp
Love the food here, plus it's farm to table! The vibe is always nice and it's never been crowded when I've gone. The lobster spring rolls are my favorite appetizer and the empanadas as well. Valet is $5 during the day at $15 during the evening/night (or at least that's what I'm charged). This place is on my list of favorite restaurants for sure!

Yelp
So I went here for late brunch/lunch with a few friends, and it was pretty good. The service wasn't too bad for a not so busy Saturday. The drink that I had (can't remember what I got) was delicious and strong. The steak & eggs that I got was pretty good. Steak was cooked to my liking. The eggs were decent. And the scalloped potatoes were delicious. Definitely recommend trying this place out.

Yelp
Met a family member here for dinner my first time visiting the restaurant my husband and I decided to sit on the patio since it was a warm Houston night. The ambience was amazing. The service was by far the best we've had in a long time and the food I feel like I need to go back and try it three more times we were so pleasantly surprised the drinks were good. The dessert was good. Our meal was great. This will be my first stop next time I'm in Houston
google avatar

Linda S.

Yelp
The menu had everything you could think of - not sure if that's a good or bad thing. My dish was okay! I asked for a substitute on the spaghetti squash with regular spaghetti, but if not sure if they actually did that. The overall dish was tasty and they had a variety on the drink menu. It was tasty overall and the ambiance is very nice and modern. The only thing that was kinda annoying was parking. The lot is small and there is a valet... you could essentially just walk over to your car, but they drove it to you 5 feet away.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, nice staff, and very welcoming of large groups. It's quite a large menu, but don't be afraid of the paleo/keto/CBD options! Valet parking only.

Yelp
What an incredibly delicious and creative menu!! We went with a group of seven and ordered lots of items and they were all really good! The tandoori chicken pizza was the yummiest of the three pizzas we ordered, although my brother loved the short rib pizza. We got two salads that were both delectable. We got the crab tower and a scallop dish - both were fought over for the last bites! Our server Kevin was AMAZING. So friendly and gave great suggestions from the menu. Wonderful meal that kept folks from age 14 to 54 very happy with the food and service.

Yelp
Easy five star review! Great service and great food. Nice decor and views too! Food: the empanadas were so dam good! Full of flavor! Each bite was amazing. The angry shrimp were decent. I wish the waitress would have told us the plate was hot. I burned my hand. Come on. Gotta tell client that. Back to the food. The filet mignon steak was probably one of the best filet cuts I've had. I've eaten at all the top steak houses too but somehow this one was just exceptional! The paleo desserts were amazing too We will definitely be back. Management please instruct your waitstaff to let clients know when plates are hot! I burned my hand!

Tegan K.

Yelp
Accommodated a seed oil allergy (seems like just the fries are seed oils -- but def confirm). Most things cooked in olive oil. The lamb burger and black burger were both very good - would rate the burger high (9.10) very good flavor. The waitress was very nice. The whole menu is keto and paleo.

Yelp
The waitstaff is attentive, the food is alright, but the mandatory paid valet.... One of the dumbest arrangements I've ever come across. My party went to Ruggles Black for brunch and ordered pancakes and omelettes. The food was fine! Not great, not bad, with filling portion sizes and decent flavor. There are better restaurants in Houston. On the afternoon we visited, the restaurant's small parking lot was empty but their valet insisted upon parking my car, less than 10 feet from the door. Once inside, I noticed that my phone was still connected to the car Bluetooth and was playing music! I turned around to look at my car and saw the windshield wipers move, confirming that it had never been turned off! I walked out of the restaurant to turn off my car and was immediately shouted at by the valet that I couldn't park there. I told him that he parked the car and never turned it off. He again repeated himself and it took a moment for me to explain that he had never turned off my car. His response? "Oh." After the meal, I had the great privilege of paying him $5 to receive my keys back. If you're deadset on eating here because of the cbd menu or crab tower, I'd suggest parking elsewhere and walking to the restaurant. Personally, I'd just eat somewhere else.

Ramona D.

Yelp
Last night was incredible. The food, service, and ambiance created a memorable experience with colleagues. Gabrielle took great care of our table. He did not rush each course: He allowed our engagement at the table to ebb and flow naturally with intermittent breaks for our drink orders, then appetizers, and the main course. My Spicy Cucumber Martini was perfection. The Keto Pan Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Crab Spring Rolls, and Paleo Angry Shrimp made our tastebuds dance...... AND My Indian Spiced Scottish Salmon calmed my soul. I'll definitely be back!!!

Yelp
The food and atmosphere here is amazing. Our server, Joshua, was awesome. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and was overall just an AMAZING server. The keto and paleo options are the best I've seen.

Yelp
I've long heard about RB's keto menu and have been meaning to check them out for years. Well, I finally did on a Friday evening with a good friend that used (yes used lol) to be on keto as well. The parking situation is craaazy! I mean cars on top of cars and packed in like sardines. You have to be skinny skinny to be a valet here lol and I see mixed commentary about it being complimentary or $5. Well, it was $5 when we came. Outside of being forced to valet because the parking lot is small, getting here and inside is super convenient. Steven was our server and he was pretty friendly. Everything was all good until it started getting more packed in there. The tables are entirely too close and one side of your table, the separation might as well be nil to the other side. It's literally like those ppl are dining with you! This one lady sat down and was talking loud af so we decided to switch tables. They accommodated the request. Now for food, we ordered the crab tower for appetizer. The initial bite had a weird taste but after mixing, that thing was so damn good; 9/10 definitely would order again! ! My friend and I both ordered pizzas. I ordered the keto CBD supreme and it was 10/10. Very cheesy, lots of meat and other toppings. I can't remember what my friend ordered but she liked it more than mine. So if you've made it this far, you're probably wondering why 3 stars. Well I've already mentioned parking and ambiance. That's a 1/2 star reduction for each, the other comes from the bathroom situation. The toilet was entirely too close to the stall door. You have to maneuver your body to avoid it touching you. Next in literally all the faucets, the water was trickling out. I mean barely anything which almost made me want to leave altogether. Lastly, they didn't have any paper towels in the device. This is a nightmare especially for a germaphobe like myself. That being said, again, the food was delicious. We kept seeing ppl ordering a large variety dessert box which looked delicious. And they do what they have to do for the parking so even though it's a nuisance, at least they're making a way and not forcing patrons to figure it out. Lastly I'm so damn happy I didn't buy one of the condos across the street from Trader Joe's when I was looking cause with that keto menu, I would probably live at RB for dinner, but primarily for take out, chile!

Yelp
What a treat! I'be had this spot bookmarked for a while now, and passed on another occasion due to the valet line being so long. This time, we made a reservation, valet was accessible, things flowed smoothly, and we made the most of our first visit. The flavors are spot on, and RB is a top tier Houston dining experience. Everything is delicious. The fried chicken was moist and the accompanying sauces were perfect. The seafood ramen was delicious also. The empanadas and the butternut squash soup hit the spot as well. All in all-- Ruffles Black was fire and I can wait to return! Note: $5 valet required. Cheers!

Yelp
I went to ruggles black in Houston before prom. They combine Indian flavors with American-French cuisine. They specialize in farm to table dishes and have various dietary preferences such as keto, paleo, and gluten free. The inside was dimly lit for an intimate experience and is beautifully decorated inside. The only thing that sucked was that they force everyone to do valet since their parking lot is small. I got there. Beef short rib and grilled snapper paleo tacos. The beef short rib was my favorite of the two. It was dressed with cabbage, mango, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, mayo, pico, pickled carrots, and habanero. The beef short rib was tender and flavorful. I really liked the sauce they used for this taco too. The grilled snapper taco on the other hand was just ok to me. The fish was tender but tasted kind of bland, it needed some more seasoning. I prefer regular tortilla tacos over the paleo tacos as well. The taco fell apart pretty easily due soaking uo all the sauce. The food overall wasn't bad but I don't think it is worth the price and it wasn't memorable overall. This place is like paying for the experience and vibe rather than quality food

Louis G.

Yelp
The food is incredible. I love the marriage of the cheeses on the charcuterie board and also the tandoori (?) chicken is perfectly spicy and tender. Our server Gabe was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and eager to offer suggestions as he guided us through the menu; I hope all of the staff is as professional as he is. Overall, perfect for a nice, quiet ambience.

Yelp
With friends n family, even a so so meal can turn out to be pretty good. Personally, I didn't have much expectations about the venue, but it turned out to be pretty good. Calamari 5/5. Crispy, deep fried. Very good seasoning n flavor. Accompanied by sauces. Chicken masala pasta 5/5. I really enjoyed this item. Normally I don't get chicken due to lack of flavor, but this one was very well seasoned n sautéed and served with pasta n veggies. Chicken spinach. 4/5. The plank was good. Served with veggies on the side. Good herbs on the chicken. Pistachio snapper. 4/5. Fish was seasoned good. Served with sliced pistachios and veggies. Got some sprouts and potatoes on the side. Good overall flavor. Service was up to standards. Got couple of staff members that were taking care of our table. Enjoyed the company. The only thing, I didn't care too much for, was the lightning inside. It felt dark

Kristie M.

Yelp
The friendly service starts as you pull into Ruggles Black for Valet parking. We haven't dined inside because outdoor/patio is so inviting and comfortable. The inside is charming though and maybe future visit (when weather is bad LOL) we will try inside. The food is served as an art and it shows the chef & team take pride in their creations and appearance. The servers are friendly and willing to check on any questions or changes you request on their menu. Ruggles Black is by far the best all around experience from door service to leaving. We will continue to return for a delicious meal & time.

Yelp
Bachelorette Dinner vibe. I visited Ruggles black for my bachelorette party and my best fried booked a reservation here. I told her I wanted a place that had great food and a nice atmosphere. Yes it was a bchelorette dinner so we wanted something grown and sexy and this place did not disappoint. The service was amazing plus they threw in some freebies for the occasion. The drinks were so good but Lavender Lemonade took the cake! We had some many different drinks but they were all a hit. But let me tell you about those lamb chops, I ate them to the bone. We left so stuffed before we went for a night of turning up.

Yelp
The food and service is amazing! Our server was Adrien and was fantastic. The menu had options for everyone and the dessert tray was amazing! It was hard to even make a decision. I really enjoy that the restaurant takes food allergies and sensitivities serious. Ever since covid many restaurants do not care anymore. The parking is valet only so we found a parking garage near by. The atmosphere and noise is my only complaint. It was astoundingly loud it was hard to have a conversation. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Yelp
First time at Ruggles Black. Great lunch menu for Houston Restaurant Week (HRW). Appetizer, entree and dessert for $25. The curried pumpkin butternut squash soup was so delicious. Perfect way to start off a lunch with a friend. The Grilled Seared Indian Spiced Scottish Salmon was amazing. Nice to be able to order how the fish is cooked. I ordered medium and it was perfect. Served on a bed of red quinoa with a medley of carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli, asparagus and green beans. The mashed potatoes rounded out a great dish. Large enough to split or take home half for lunch the next day. My friend did not get a HRW menu, but opted for two Keto tacos for $19.95 which she enjoyed. My meal ended with a white chocolate bread pudding topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a side of strawberry sauce. Such a sweet ending to a nice meal. The place is cute with patio dining available when it is not 100F +. Make a reservation on line. Note parking is only by valet and adds $5 to your dining adventure.

Yelp
First time coming here for my friend's BD dinner. When we came they led us to the back corner seats and had us wait for good 15 mins until we finally got to order something. Pretty busy during the weekend. I had a vegan pizza and everyone else got their own foods. My pizza was good! Thin crispy crest with vegan cheese and impossible plant based meat were on top of them. Definitely a high end place and the corner seats were pretty freezing cold! But I enjoyed the vibe and experience tho. Cheers

Yelp
It's a great place. Centrally located, cute, solid service, chef is usually there. Nice patio if the weather is good. Don't care for the forced valet. The best is everyone will find something good to eat there, whether vegan, vegetarian, GF, paleo, and on. And the food is really tasty, although it can be pricy too. Drinks are good and creative. Loved the sangria.

Yelp
If you enjoy coming out to your car unscathed, don't come here. Valet only with an incredibly cramped parking lot even during off-peak hours. I almost got hit twice in 1 visit. It's also very hard communicating with the valet guys. I'd pay extra to park my own car instead of watching them make a 17-point turn to park. This place might be salvageable if the food was worth it, unfortunately it was mid. But I eat out at a different restaurant every day so take that as you will. Pay attention to the other reviews. And remember to take pics of your car before you go inside!

Yelp
Heard and read great reviews about this place and so pleasantly surprised for The Hubs to take me here for dinner. The ambiance and decor were amazing. Real lit candles on tables gave the perfect touch. Appetizers, salad, and surprisingly the pizza were YUMMY!

Yelp
Ambiance: first thing you smell upon walking in is chemical cleaner. Service was pretty attentive. The food was super underwhelming bc we have great memories of the original Ruggles and Ruggles Green. My tacos were drenched in sauce. Our brussel sprouts also were drenched in sauce. Not sure what happened, but this doesn't have the same vibe as the other Ruggles locations, so I guess we came in with the wrong expectations.

Yelp
Super nice experience here this weekend! We had a bit of an earlier dinner and beat the rush, but things definitely picked up a bit as the evening went on. Highly recommend sitting on the patio to avoid some of the noise that's amplified inside. Super cute ambience/string lights outside! As someone trying to make the switch to eat gluten free/dairy free as much as possible, Ruggles Black was first on my list of spots to try. Everything I had was tasty, and especially for those with serious diet limitations this is a great spot to try out! Likely wouldn't get the pizza again, but with such a great range of options on the menu there's bound to be other good bites.

Yelp
Great experience! This restaurant is a bit more upscale and great for a night out with a lot of options on their menu. They have a lot of "keto" or "paleo" options - not a big fan of those buzz words but it may help folks on certain diets. We got the brussel sprouts and crab tower as appetizers. The brussel sprouts were good (a little salty for me personally) and the crab tower while not original in flavor was very fresh. Portions were decent for the price. I got the short rib taco, my friends got heartier dishes. The taco was good, the slaw cut through the saltiness of the tender short rib but they were very generous with short rib so towards the end, I was just eating meat and wanted a bit more of the slaw. My friend's aioli in his fish and chips was unique and citrusy. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes! The dishes are very pricey but the portions match the price. Ambiance is great. We sat outdoors on their patio and the weather was perfect. The atmosphere inside is moodier and perfect for a date night. I think you definitely pay for atmosphere. Service was very nice and prompt! I just wish we had gotten napkins before our appetizer course. $5 valet, parking is impossible unless you do valet. The food here is solid, won't blow your mind, and you will be paying a bit for the ambiance.

Yelp
Met someone here for a business lunch..........the person I was meeting knew the owner. Parking lot was tight and Valet was only option. It wasn't very busy, but could not imagine what it might be like for a busy dinner time. Wonderful ambiance with some eclectic seating and design........came off to me affectionately as a "girly place." Looking around at lunch crowd mostly women in between personal training sessions and spa treatments. The food was amazing! Angry Shrimp was a favorite, could have done that as an entree, though it was an appetizer. Tandoori Chicken was different from tradition and what made it for me as the sauce. Strawberry Cheesecake was delightful, creamy smooth and tasty. Since my companion did know the owner we got the VIP experience including her attention. Service was attentive, prompt and courteous. I'm going to put Ruggles Black in my rotation of business lunch spots.

Yelp
I needed a place to hang out as my car was being serviced. I read a review on this place years ago but just never been. This place is very cute. The decor is well put together. I always feel weird snapping photos while folks are eating (privacy), so I just captured where I was. Just take it as a gesture to come to check it out for yourself. I had a few lite bites and a huge dessert. It was not cheap! The food was a bit underwhelming but super colorful! I did not taste the crab in the Fried Crab Spring Rolls. It lacked seasoning inside and was just filled with cheese. I kind of feel I get more flavor from a mozzarella stick than I did with this spring roll. However, paired with the sauces provided, it enhanced the flavor. The Kale Ceasars Salad was just okay, too. The dressing didn't bring the flavors together. It is a chipotle miso dressing. Honestly, a good Ole Ceasar or a creamy Balsamic would have been better. Maybe if it included grilled corn, then the chipotle miso would have worked. It is somehow better when paired with something charred or fried. Speaking of fried, that crispy patty looking thing is a fried poached egg. It was very bland and didn't seem to go well with the salad. Honestly, it would have gone better if the egg was boiled and chopped into the salad. Definitely not worth $15+. I'm not a super sweets fan but this carrot Cake was hitting. It was paired with a scoop of ice cream. DELICIOUS! The absolute best thing I ate (both the cake and ice cream). The ice cream is homemade, gluten and dairy free. There is a dessert presentation, not featured, as it is something worth the surprise if not seen in other reviews. The bartender was my waiter. He was very attentive and helpful. I'd come back but more so to try the drinks and have dessert and coffee.

Yelp
This is the most diverse and largest menu I have come across in a long time. I was impressed with everything we got. The calamari came with three sauces each were excellent in their own way. The main dish I had was the seafood ramen. This came with an incredible amount of seafood for the price. The carrot cake was amazing. I liked that it wasn't overly generous with weird stuff like nuts and raisins/carrot strips (just my preference). Just had a good amount of spice and flavors. I would recommend this place anyday. Great amount of food in each dish for a fair price and good ambiance.

Yelp
I was introduced to Ruggles Black last week and I must say it's one of the better restaurants I've been to here in Houston. Below is a quick synopsis of what I experienced. Pros -Healthier food options especially for those with dietary issues like myself -Great tasting drinks that average from $12-$15 -Presentation of the meals was top tier -Ambience was sleek and inviting -Attentive bartender the second time I visited -Spacious outside patio -Valet parking (tip encouraged) -Chef came out to greet us and ask how our meal was going Areas to improve on -Have less staff at the desk when patrons walk in. Makes it seem a bit chaotic and can be overwhelming -Some of the food items are unnecessarily over priced.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Ruggles Black. They provide Paleo, Keto, and CBD infused dishes. You have to valet park with a courtesy tip starting at $5. You can find street parking and walk, but I didn't notice any convenient self parking locations. We went around 1:30pm on a Saturday and it was quite busy. The inside of the restaurant is small and narrow. They do have outdoor seating with fans. We chose to sit outside and were comfortable. We made a reservation and was seated quickly upon entering. Our waitress Allison was very nice and attentive. All of our dishes came out fast and hot! We tried the French 75 Specialty Cocktails which were very refreshing. We chose two appetizers the Crab Spring Rolls and the Keto Chicken Wings. The wings were a decent size. The wings lacked flavor to me and were my least favorite. My friend however really enjoyed them. The Crab Spring Rolls were my favorite appetizer 10/10!!!!! For the entree I chose the Paleo Fried Rice with Snapper I did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would. It was okay, the dish did not pack much flavor to me. I had to ask for a side of sauce because it was dry. My friend had the Indian Spiced Scottish Salmon and she loved this dish! We were so full we opted out of dessert. The aesthetic of this place is really cute and the food is good. I would definitely try other dishes on the menu, and I will definitely get the Crab Spring Rolls again. I would recommend this place to others looking to try new twists on foods. Overall we spent a total of $155 for 3 specialty cocktails, two appetizers, and two entrees.
