"Kristin and Andrew Wood are closing Russet, their seven-year-old BYOB. The last day is June 30. They emphasize their connection to Philadelphia and the bounty of Pennsylvania, which influenced their kitchen credo and nightly menus." - Rachel Vigoda

"Russet is a small, upscale American place that’s in an old townhouse right on the border of Rittenhouse Square and Midtown Village. The menu is seasonal and changes every single night, but you can count on seeing a selection of small plates and pastas, followed by larger things like scallops, Happy Valley lamb and Guinea hen. Bring a date, a bottle of wine (it’s BYOB), and be ready to pay up." - Sydney McElwee

It was our first visit to Russet and it was fantastic! It has a lot of character, the staff is friendly and engaging. I enjoyed the porkchop, which was cooked perfectly, paired with tasty mushrooms and potatoes. The dessert was artistic and delicious. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys farm to table cuisine.

Located in a residential building, this charming restaurant delivers a seemingly haphazard selection of foods in eclectic formulations. I particularly enjoyed the chicken skewers which were coated in a crunchy spiced crust.

What you need to know: BYOB, and the menu changes daily. Cozy, refined dining. We dined at Russet as a test-run for our wedding rehearsal dinner. We had an excellent meal. The plates were well portioned and cooked perfectly. The staff was respectful and professional. We enjoyed the entire evening. The menu has great variety and the two apps we ate were awesome. We had salmon and lamb for dinner and each was delicious. Unfortunately there was a major snafu with scheduling our event. We are very disappointed for how the staff handled the situation. Nonetheless, I presume that this is unique to us and that Russet will treat others better than they treated us.

Fantastic! Fresh ingredients and great combinations of flavors. Pasta dishes were amazing and vibrant. Main dishes were excellent as well (my branzino and mussels dish was crazy good!). It's a smaller place which was very nice for conversation. Our waiter Tony was so kind and sweet. We stayed for about 3 hours and had a fantastic time.

Five of us went to Russet for brunch on Sunday. Nice, quiet place. The menu is limited, but offers nice options both with and without meet. Mostly classic brunch items with an organic twist. Eggs Benedict were clearly missing from the menu, which was otherwise a good selection. Food, when it arrived, was very good and just the right quantity for brunch. It is a BYOB. Unfortunately, the service was mediocre at best. The restaurant was not very busy, maybe a 1/3 of the tables were occupied. Our waitress might have been a trainee, but did not announced herself as such, or at least very inexperienced. She couldn't answer the simplest questions about our menu items. After we placed our order, we had to wait over 30 minutes to get our first course, and again as much between the courses. The other waitress, much busier and more active, got three tables served ahead of us. People got seated, ordered, got served, ate and left... and we just watched and waited. Finally, after 2+ hours in the restaurant, we had to rush out without even considering desserts to catch our train. So really disappointed in the service, but the food was good.

Just moved to the neighborhood a week ago, and passed this restaurant on my travels quite frequently. Booked a table for my wife and I and two of our close friends. Overall, very happy with the experience: the menu had quite a number of first courses and entrees that appealed to us; the pasta course we both ordered was delicious; we had the lamb and poke entrees which were cooked to perfection; and, their in-house made maple ice cream was quite yummy! Atmosphere was great and the pricing quite reasonable considering the quality of the food. Will certainly be back!

Russet is a small but quaint little restaurant. Their menu changes daily so be sure to call ahead if you have any restrictions on food. We ordered a few appetizers and asked for them to be made as dinner portions yet they were still very small when they got to the table. The potato gnocchi was good but the other pasta dish that we ordered actually came out cold. We ordered several of the deserts but found none of them to be all that great. The highlight of the meal was the land and the chard fish which actually the vegetables that were roasted for the meal where the best part of the meal itself. For the price we paid for for three people I didn't feel it was worth the value of what we spent which was close to $250. The staff was very nice and accommodating but the space is very small and very loud. This is not high on my recommended list.

It was our first time here. Great experience. FOOD: Delicious, interesting and creative, well portioned and plated. Don't skip on desserts, you will be sorry. Highlights: Radicchio salad (hope the spelling is right), Melon Soup and Apricot Tart but all the rest of the dishes were great too. SERVICE: Attentive, friendly and professional. AMBIANCE: Lovely, shabby chic/rustic, cozy. They play great pieces of music with just right level of loudness. VALUE: Very good for outstanding experience. Most important they are open for brunch at 10am which is a rare case with other restaurants. We are definitely going to be back every time we are in Philly.
