My visit to Rushy's Southern was ok. The menu was small and only 4 meals you can select from and around 7 breakfast items. I ordered the BBQ sandwich with fries and it was good. My wife had the chicken sandwich and did not enjoy it she said the batter on the chicken was good but the meat was not flavored. One if our friends ordered a breakfast salad and enjoy it. The place is small and cozy. The employees are nice and friendly and kept the place cleaned. The meals was $15 each.

New spot for the family. The presentation of the food was great, but the taste didn’t match what was in front of me. The only thing that was tasty were the biscuits, shrimp from the grits, and the cream kale. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was pretty laid back.

My wife is from North Carolina, and I have been visiting there each summer for twenty years. Each trip we head out to the beach and get Eastern Carolina BBQ. Rusty's definitely has captured the essence of the food there. Eastern Carolina BBQ is different than Western Carolina BBQ which is influenced more by Memphis BBQ. It is a vinegar based sauce on pulled pork. Rusty's dining room is comfortable with enough space between the tables that you don't feel like your part of the conversation going on at the next table. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is good too! The biscuits had a good crust with a tender middle, and the pepper jelly was great(it goes well on the hushpuppies too). The fried green tomatoes where done very well. Their fried chicken was very crunchy. The mixed vegetable bowl was tasty too. The coleslaw was great too. There were a couple of minor misses. The fries that came with the burger were too salty and not crispy. The BBQ was a bit too smokey, the delicious sauces it came with were no match of the heavy smoke flavor. Rusty's is definitely a place to get a good southern meal.

This is seriously killer southern bbq, but with the hipster/upscale delivery of a typical San Francisco restaurant. The service were nice. The highlight is the food. We had the gumbo, fried chicken, and pork shoulder, and it was all great.

Oh my Lordy Lou this place is fantastic. Being from Virginia, I pride myself on some level of knowing good bbq when I taste it. SF doesn’t have many options. But this one takes the cake for the best overall experience, delicious southern food and spicy bloody marys. We were a large group easily accommodated at one of their larger communal tables. Literally everything we ordered was great, with the fried chicken sandwich being a knockout.

One of my fav southern restaurants in SF downtown Rusty’s southern, serves Especially for Carolina style, Fried chicken made with Chicken thigh tastes more tender and juicy, perfect spicy. Grits is very comforting!!! What really makes this great is two condiments made based on family recipe!!! And hushpuppies is really good. I’ve never seen any Home-made sauce and seasoning so special and appetizing. Give it A try!!!

I have to say I was quite disappointed having read all the positive reviews. Upon entering the restaurant we are greeted by a bitter weird smell. The service was good and the food in large portions. However, I found all of the food very bland and tasteless. Now, I don't eat a lot of salt so I don't think it's just me. Is this what southern food is supposed to taste like?

Hands down, one of the best brunches I’ve ever had. You can’t go wrong with either the fried chicken or fried steak. The biscuits are soft, not dry, and complements the meat perfectly. The waitstaff was also wonderful. Try this place out if you’re in the area!
