15 Hottest New Cocktail Spots in Atlanta

"Darren Carr and Eric Simpkins closed the Lawrence last year on Juniper and replaced it with Rwby (pronounced “Ruby”), a low-key neighborhood restaurant offering a variety of dishes with broad appeal that also stick to the seasons. Dishes are easily shared, too, like the steamed mussels and roasted carrot dip with garlic confit or entrees of roasted acorn squash stuffed with red quinoa, kale, carrots, and fried oyster mushrooms and tangy Flemish beef cheek stew. Like the duo’s other Midtown spots, Bon Ton and the Waiting Room, cocktails don’t take a back seat to the food at Rwby. The Amarcord Spritz, for instance, sees Cappelletti aperitivo and melon rind-infused vermouth topped with prosecco and club soda. But if you’re seeking a Manhattan or Old Fashioned, people who’ve frequented Bon Ton or the Waiting Room know they can get stellar versions of those at Rwby, too." - Molly Harris, Eater Staff

On the Grid : The Lawrence

"Serving up inventive cocktail selections and contemporary Southern fare, The Lawrence provides a comfortable and social atmosphere that encourages creativity and excellence in both food and drink. Located in a cozy corner on Juniper Street, The Lawrence is one of our favorite lunch spots and after-work getaways." - Son&Sons

The ATL Hit List: The Best New Restaurants In Atlanta

"Midtowners who are actively trying to live that pedestrian life welcome Rwby as a new place to grab a few drinks. For those without a Midtown address, the headache of finding parking at this Juniper Street restaurant is rage-inducing—enough to spark a newfound love for screamo music. But once inside, a small bar framed in a large floral arrangement gives way to a handful of wooden booths in a cozy orange-tinted dining area. Perfectly balanced cocktails like the fruity Paradiso Paloma atone for the parking woes. And food items like their cheesy, juicy burger and reasonable (for Midtown, anyway) prices make the now-unnecessary apology complete. " - nina reeder, juli horsford

Rwby Review - Midtown - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"The Midtown crowd who are actively trying to live that pedestrian life will love a spot like Rwby to grab a quick pre- or post-dinner drink. Some food items like the cheesy, juicy burger are supremely satisfying. We'd come back for this. But the bland, poorly named 7-Spice Quarter Chicken is a dish we'd happily skip. There’s no way seven spices could have such little flavor, and the puddle of curry sauce beneath, though good, doesn't quite save it. " - Juli Horsford

We just got a quick app and drink but if we had more time we would have ordered dinner and absolutely will be back to try as many menu items as possible! We ordered their Ginger Mocktail - Wow does this pack a punch!!! So delicious - with the Roasted Carrot dip and the Brussel sprouts. I don't even understand how carrots can taste so phenomenal. I love carrots don't get me wrong but this. It's ridiculous. The Brussel sprouts were a tad over fried for my liking, BUT there were some that were cooked perfectly and they were bomb. Can't wait to go back!

Birthday Dinner for 4 Approaching this restaurant, we didn't spot any available street parking. We noticed a paid parking lot in the Metropolis apartment building. After parking, we strolled through their lobby and headed over to the restaurant. The birthday girl had already reserved a table, so we were promptly seated in the rear, at a nice-sized booth, and handed our menus. We reviewed the drink menu and were ready to order the next time our server came by. The Birthday Girl ordered the Lola’s Apple garden specialty drink. Wifey ordered the Sweetwater 420 and I opted for the Three Taverns Night on Ponce IPA.  We were hanging out and enjoying our drinks when our server arrived to take our food orders. Wifey and I ordered the 7 Spice Quarter Chicken, my oldest ordered her favorite Roasted Salmon, and the birthday girl opted for the RWDY Cheeseburger with Fries (Not too exciting for a birthday meal HA). Our server took our orders without writing anything down👎🏽. While we waited, we noticed the food was taking its time coming out. This place was basically empty, so not sure why the kitchen was backed up. The food finally came, and it was a mixed bag. The Chicken dish that wifey and I ordered looked and tasted delicious. My oldest daughter's Salmon came with accompaniments she didn't expect. The salmon arrived with some Chickpea-Tomato concoction and she's anti-Tomato, so she had to swap it out for Broccolini. Another hiccup was the birthday girl's Cheeseburger; she asked for only Cheese and Lettuce, but it arrived with mayonnaise on it. She scraped most of it off and powered through. We were wrapping up dinner, and our server brought over their complimentary birthday dessert. Overall, the vibe in the dining room was a little low-key and underwhelming, and the service and food were a mixed bag. 3.5 rating

Google
Rwby is a true delicacy in Atlanta. Without exaggeration, I have come every week, if not twice a week, since I found this restaurant in April. The environment is beautiful, the staff is welcoming & The food is consistently incredible. I can't speak highly enough about the food. it's imaginative & innovative, while capturing the familiar feelings & flavors of a home-cooked meal. The carrot dip, the shakshouka, the steak, the agnolotti & the ice cream deserve special recognition. From a great cocktail hour during the week to a delicious brunch menu, it’s by far my favorite my favorite restaurant in the city. If you haven’t been yet, you owe it to yourself to experience the luxury that is Rwby.

Google
This a stylish modern restaurant with an interesting menu. The stand out dishes were the pork belly tacos, the mussels and the ny strip steak. Easily one of the best steaks that I’ve have at a restaurant in a long time. The drinks were decent, I would definitely come back again to try others.

Had an incredible meal with friends at Rwby last night! It was my first time, and we had the salad, falafel, shawarma, carrot dip, brussel sprouts, and lots of wine. The design is beautifully done, with a really intuitive flow to the place. Gorgeous artwork, kind and knowledgeable staff, and a brilliant chef! Wow! Can’t wait to come back, woke up this morning wishing I had leftovers! 😂 ❤️

Google
Had high hopes for this place but it appears they’re still trying to find their groove. The waiter was unfamiliar with the wine list but she was extremely attentive and service was great. My table ordered the mussels which are in a cream sauce with bits of pork sausage. They were delicious! I had the quarter chicken with a side of broccolini and the Bonterra Organic Chardonnay (buttery, crisp citrus and pear notes). The chicken was cooked to perfection but the seasoning didn’t have me oooing and awwwing. The broccolini was covered in a sauce that has a distinct flavor. Do yourself a favor and order it on the side. My friend ordered the hangar steak which was extremely tough and came with an overly sweet mushroom sauce.

Google
Perfect night out! Came to RWBY with the roomie and had a wonderful girls night. We had a few snacks and loved every bite. The carrot dip was delicious, and the crudo was light and flavorful. The star of the show was definitely the mussels though, do yourself a favor and order two, you won’t want to share. Overall an incredible experience, can’t wait to come back and try brunch!

Google
Rwby’s Love Affair From the time i walked into this establishment i was wowed by the greetings and customer service the dim lighting and clean line design just was breath taking and the great music just lended to the vibe as i ordered their house cocktails to ease into the night i landed on the Cherbourg umbrella impeccable and unique a riveting riff never had and couldn’t have just one so i then was suggested the Lola garden whew a refreshing but sweet taste bud opener And then the food i could just sink my teeth in the Shawarma all the flavor and authentic feelings reminiscent of my travels and the Brussels sprout seasoned to perfection i just love this entire experience and is a top recommendation for any locals and travelers. Thanks Marcus , Darren , Ced and Chef and entire kitchen staff for this touch of heaven

Yelp
This was a great spot for an impromptu date night. We walked in without a reservation on a Tuesday night, and sat on the patio. It was a nice, warm night to sit outside, and though it was loud from the traffic, it still felt peaceful on the patio. Our waitress was super kind and helpful, and helped make recommendations for us newbies. I loved my Waiting for Cleo cocktail - it was very ginger-y and that gave it a nice kick. I had the arugula salad, which was soooo good, and I tried my husband's green salad, which was also excellent with fresh goat cheese. My chicken shawarma wrap was super flavorful (maybe a little too salty for me?) and filling, and it came with a bunch of nicely crispy fries. The second half of the sandwich made for great leftovers for the next day. My husband enjoyed the pasta, and he shared his Brussels sprouts with me, and those were perfect. I'd definitely recommend this place for reasonably-priced, quality food and a nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this more than we actually did. The service was great, very personable and took time to explain the menu selections and preferences. We were extremely pleased by both our server and bartenders as well. The letdown came from the flavors. Things were somewhat over salted and to be honest bewildering. A skirt steak sandwich with egg and corn for instance. The falafel and oysters apps were best out of the four. The burger (I had hoped) would be a closer alignment to the famed Lawrence burger. Unfortunately it was over cheesed and over cooked for our liking. A decent attempt but nonetheless I don't think we'd return.

Yelp
This spot is great for happy! It goes until 6pm and they have several $10 entrees and $7 cocktails. We got the burger and the lamb bolognese. So good. Loved the interior decor and the service was great! Would love to go back to try their brunch.

Yelp
My all time favorite dish is chicken and waffles and this place did not disappoint. The waffles had a bit of honey dripping with powdered sugar ...mmm it was yummy to my tummy (lol) the chicken was on point and it was so filling. The service was good. However I liked the ambience. No loud DJ. They had soft RNB playing. Definitely a place to visit . .. I'll be back. Our church is around the corner so it's great to frequent local establishments

Yelp
Rwby is a brand new restaurant in Midtown Atlanta that replaced The Lawrence. The ambiance is warm and inviting with a wonderful patio that overlooks the city. The service on our visit was a little slow. It took a while for the server to come back so we asked the host and another server for some items. There food was very good. We went for Happy Hour. The Old Fashioned is delicious. The Lamb Bolognese was very meaty and flavorful. The Burger was the best thing on the Happy Hour menu. Everyone enjoyed it. Wish they had a larger Happy Hour menu with more variety, but I'll definitely be back. Can't forget the dessert! Absolutely amazing! Freshly homemade olive oil ice cream with popcorn!

Yelp
Absolutely loved their Sunday brunch! The chicken shawarma literally melts in your mouth, the sauce in the wrap and the garlic dip were so flavorful. I'm gonna be thinking about that for days. Even the fries were just perfect. Honestly such a hearty delicious meal, will be back many times just for this shawarma. The harissa potatoes were good, nothing too extraordinary, just good potatoes with yummy sauce. The shakshouka was also tasty, very tomatoey but the accompanying pita was so soft and pillowy. I will say there were not a lot of vegetarian options, but I loved the food we did order! Our server was so friendly, even though we went towards the end of brunch service, we did not feel rushed at all. He was so sweet and made sure he let us know we could take our time if we needed to. Felt so warm and welcoming, so we could take our time and enjoy our meal. Even the place is very well done, the booths are so cute and intimate. The music was setting such a nice mood, had us doing a little happy dance with our yummy food. Was empty towards the end of brunch but still a very cute lively atmosphere! Definitely recommend the weekend brunch and the grilled chicken shawarma, I could eat the garlic dip plain out of a bucket!!

Yelp
Excited to see Rwby open up since I was a fan of The Lawrence. The food was good, service was OK, and ambiance was OK. I ordered the carrot dip, hangar steak, and had a few cocktails. They gave a very generous portion on the steak, which I appreciated. The cocktails were superb, which is what I really wanted to know about. Unfortunately they don't have dessert yet, but that might be because they very recently opened.

Yelp
Tl;dr: Great finer dining & craft cocktails place that you should try! The former Lawrence at the same location by the same owners as RWBY was one of my favorite two restaurants in Midtown, Atlanta. So I had extremely high expectations when I tried RWBY for the first time. This is a 4-1/2 star review rounded down due to those expectations. Feel free to round up to 5 if you like! The space: The owners seem to have tried for a lighter experience this time, with lighter cocktail menu selections & a lighter interior design. Perhaps the Lawrence seemed a bit too masculine, austere, or dark. But in trying to go the opposite direction, they've ended up with Ruby Tuesday instead of refined. The raw wood slatted, high backed, unpadded booths seem to me to be an odd decision for an upscale place. The fare: RWBY features essentially the same brief entree menu as the Lawrence: a burger, a bone-in half chicken, steak & frites, a fish, a soup & a vegetarian option. The hangar steak was amazing at one end, but stringy & tough at the other. The burgers are tasty with fresh ingredients. The bar excelled at my fancy test cocktails. We tried the melon & prosciutto appetizer which the chef seems to not understand at all. They had inexplicably fried the prosciutto into bacon bits that shattered on the plate & were incapable of being enjoyed in the same bite as the sparse slices of melon. The service: The Lawrence always suffered from uneven (what I called schizophrenic) service: you never knew what you were going to get -- attentive one visit, absent another, helpful one visit, clueless the next. Their hiring/training practices seem to not have changed. Our server was competent & knowledgeable, but detached & distracted. However, that's not all bad if you're more interested in your dinner conversations than a server constantly interrupting you. Overall I'm sure I'm going to love it again & will be back soon to try more with adjusted expectations.

Yelp
How fun to find a wonderful new restaurant in Atlanta. Healthy, upscale, delicious food was a huge bonus! We started with the carrot dip with our cocktails. 2 wines (perfect Portugal wine!) and a Paridiso Paloma. We had the burger, squash and a salad along with the Patatas Bravas. All yummy and We said we would order again. Our waitress was a delight. Attentive but not intrusive. We will be back!!

Yelp
Great spot for craft cocktails! Some of the best in town. Also tried brunch today, my husband had the potato pancake and I had shakshuka. His was a little on the greasy side- everything was fried - but mine was delicious. Will be a regular at the bar for cocktails and apps!

Yelp
Drink and food were good but for the price could have been better. The design is super cute though. Steak tartare was definitely the standout and had a unique flavor. Service was also good.

Yelp
Was looking for an impromptu date night with my wife, and had read so much about this place. Happy we could try it out. We sat on the patio, which was very nice as the evening cooled down, but would probably be hot during the day since no fans. Also was a little loud from the traffic, but what else do you expect in midtown. Our waitress was attentive and not pushy. She and the floor manager did a good job taking care of us. We got some great cocktails. The Waiting For Cleo was a refreshing gingery sipper. They had this rye and pineapple rum cocktail that I was a little nervous about being too boozy or too sweet. It was perfectly balanced and great for a summer night. The cocktail menu isn't large, but it is so well-executed. There is a reason eater.com raved about the drinks. We both got salads to start. My wife got a peach and arugula salad that tasted great with balance of spice and sweet. I got the green salad with goat cheese and pistachios. It was right on with a nice light vinaigrette. For our mains, we got the agnolotti and shawarma. The pasta was nice with good flavor, but the sauce was a little thin for my liking. That may just be me, though. The shawarma was tasty and had good seasoning. We got a side of the fried brussel sprouts, and that may have stolen the show. Crispy and with a hint of citrus in the sauce. So good, and you can still convince yourself it is healthy. This is a solid spot for the price and quality of food in midtown. Definitely worth a try - even if just for drinks (and brussels).

Catherine R.

Yelp
SO DELICIOUS! Fabulous wine selection, sexy ambiance with great design, terrific service, and food clearly made with love and attention to detail. Can't wait to come back! The falafel was perfect, really enjoyed the shwarma too!! The chef even came and spoke with us, he was so warm and lovely! Go asap you won't regret it

Yelp
Truly one of the best new gems in Atlanta. Good design with a mixture of tile and wood interior. High ceilings give it an upscale feel but the prices are stellar for 2024. Bar is incredibly fast for any cocktail- one hell of a Manhattan and their wines are impressive. Owner currently is one of the servers which is a humbling but personal touch to everything. Menu is smaller but forgivable given that it's all good food and apparently does change quite frequently. Burger and salmon are delectable- try the mac and cheese and the Brussels Sprouts. Parking is not easy but valet is on the way soon it seems. Must try for dinner.

Yelp
Glad to have another brunch spot in the neighborhood! We had the omelet and potato pancake. The savory pancake was delicious and very different than the usual brunch staple. Hope the restaurant adds their brunch menu online soon- the other dishes on the menu I remember were their burger, a shakshouka and a chicken shawarma.

Yelp
Go for the cocktails. Refined. Stay for the apps. Yummy. Haloumi cheese. Steak Tartare. The green salad cleaned the palate. The burger Whit the spot. Looking forward to trying the stew.

Yelp
I saw on Instagram that this place posted that they would be open past midnight to celebrate New Year's, so my partner and I made reservations for 11pm. Just about an hour before the reservation time, we get an email that the reservation had been cancelled. We didn't see the email until we were already nearly there, and decided to continue on. I tried to call twice and it just kept ringing with no answer both times. We arrive and are told at the door that they're closed. They also tell me they called me to let me know my reservation was cancelled, but I never received a call. Not to mention, again, that call would've come at nearly 10pm for an 11pm reservation on New Year's Eve. Ironically, as we turned to leave, I saw a flyer about the midnight new year's celebration at RWBY on a table. Extremely unprofessional and disappointing experience that left us floundering for a place to go with less than an hour to spare and most everywhere else booked out.

Dianne A.

Yelp
Branzino "filet" had several bones, thin as cardboard on a shoebox, about the size of a 4x6 photo, cost $31. Stuffed pasta sat in a bowl of soup that is described as "cream sauce" on the menu, pasta was soggy and stuffing was minuscule. Hamburger #1 was burned, bun was charcoal and fries soggy. Hamburger #2 was edible but soggy fries. We spoke with the server regarding the burned burger/bun and all we got was, "I'm sorry 'bout that"! No refund/comp or credit....manager didn't come over, NADA! i would rate them less than 1 if I could.

Read T.

Yelp
Much of the food was tasty but the service was lackluster. The bill overshadowed the experience - paying for a few cucumber slices b/c a guest couldn't eat gluten with the dip, paying for two slices of bread as only one was provided for a mussel appetizer shared by three, paying for a watered-down drink without flavor... none of that should happen, especially given the price point of the restaurant.

Ami K.

Yelp
New to mid-town and this is my new favorite spot! The ambiance inside is incredible and I love sitting on the patio in the evenings. The brunch menu has me coming back time and time again, please get the Shakshouka! A big plus for me is the sweet and entertaining staff! Love this place!

Yelp
This is a new restaurant with a great midtown location at Juniper and 8th. They didn't even have a sign up when we went. The interior is very nicely designed. High backed booths by the interior wall allow for semi-private conversation and low backed booths on the windows have a nice street view. There is also outdoor seating, but it was a chilly night and we opted for a high backed booth. Service was prompt, pleasant, and attentive but not intrusive. There is a full bar with some nice unique mixed drink options, but we opted for a bottle of wine from their short but well curated wine list. The mezze plate had some interesting selections and everything was good, especially the cheeses and carrot dip. As main courses, I had the beef cheek stew, which was wonderful and unique, and my companions had the hanger steak which was also perfectly prepared. The menu is a little short right now but all of the selections are interesting and good and the chef, who came out to talk with us, does an excellent job. We spent a relaxing two and a half hours there and I would recommend it to anyone.

Carol D.

Yelp
Great Midtown neighborhood bar and restaurant. Living here makes it easy to stop by with friends for drinks and dinner at the bar. Can't go wrong starting with the roasted carrot dip.

Yelp
Outstanding dinner tonight. Sat outside. Great service. Knowledgeable staff. Fantastic cocktails......definitely an upgrade to what was a terrific neighborhood spot (the Lawrence).....kuddos Chef Rob!

Yelp
Came for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed it! We got the chicken shawarma, shakshouka, falafel, carrot dip, and harissa potatoes. Everything was impeccably seasoned and full of flavor. Cocktails were just as fabulous. Service was excellent. Highly recommend for a non-traditional weekend brunch.

Yelp
What a great atmosphere! And the dining experience was superb! Anthony was the best attendant! It was my birthday so I got to meet the Chef! Chef's kiss to Chef Rob!

Yelp
Might be the worst burger I ever had. Grocery store bun that did not hold the burger. Bun has to complete a gourmet burger. However the appetizers over delivered - mussels, beef tartar and karage saved the day. Great service and ambiance.

Gabrielle A.

Yelp
chef Rad is phenomena. the creations behind the recipes he has are something I've never tasted. I cannot wait to go back for more!!

Mike P.

Yelp
I was a big fan of the Lawrence and have been to Rwby twice recently. Service on both visits was unmemorable and lacked basics like offering ketchup for a burger ( on both visits ) and was not additive to the experience. Food was good and burger was excellent but menu is very limited in its offering ( not the number items ). Not a fan of the booths and new compartmentalized design as we felt isolated in the shake shack style booths. Great lighting and music but it just doesn't come together as an experience that I want to tell others to try.

Anthony B.

Yelp
Great spot. Excellent cocktails and service. Definitely check it out. Very modern and great atmosphere.

Yelp
Be here or be , this place has the mixology the food and the vibe. Not sure what more you want...come by for a drink (been there) or a meal (done that) and keep the kewl going. Cheers friends.

Yelp
5 stars. for a restaurant so new, firing on all points. great things to come. cocktails. wine. food all great.
