The 16 Best Restaurants & Bars In Laguna Beach

"Rye Goods is a bakery and cafe with a few locations around Orange County and is best known for heirloom sourdough loaves and putting tasty farmers market-y things on toast. The Laguna Beach location is inside the Lumberyard Mall, a woodsy shopping plaza that strongly resembles the village of Beauty and the Beast. Come here for a casual brunch, or just a nice chocolate croissant and a flat white while you browse at the nearby boutiques filled with crystal sculptures and large oil paintings. Rye Goods is also a good low-commitment evening option, with natural wines by the glass and simple dishes like potato-leek soup and a roasted veggie sandwich." - garrett snyder, jess basser sanders

Everything about this place is high-quality, including the service! Roxy helped me, and was patient with me through my pre-coffee indecision of what to order. So kind. Food was so good, especially quality & freshness of the eggs- wow. Of course pastries + sourdough bread were incredible too. Thanks Rye Goods & Roxy!

Google
Bustling little bakery/cafe with a large variety of creative and tasty goods. The Rye Scramble was perfect! I also enjoyed the Lemon Meringue Morning Roll I only wish they had heated up our Seasonal Savory Croissant, it would've been tastier toasted and warm.

Visiting family in Laguna from Texas. We bought a blueberry scone, peach almond croissant, pop tart they were all dry and didn’t taste as expected. Not worth the price we spend

Nice quiet spot and great food. Just wish the sourdough was fermented a little longer. Not “sour” at all. Still love this spot 💕

The bagel with egg and chili oil was delicious, the grilled cheese could be sized down a bit it was so thick my kid couldn't bite into it but he said it was really tasty. Matcha latte was yummy. Really cute little spot and the employees were all so friendly.

Google
Rye Goods in Laguna Beach is an absolute delight! This charming bakery and café is the perfect blend of cozy ambiance, exceptional food, and top-notch coffee. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked pastries and the warm, welcoming vibe of a neighborhood gem. Their *Matcha Latte* is a must-try—creamy, perfectly balanced, and made with high-quality matcha that’s both earthy and smooth. It’s the ideal pick-me-up, whether you’re starting your day or taking an afternoon break. Pair it with one of their freshly baked pastries, like their flaky croissants or decadent cinnamon rolls, and you’ve got a match made in heaven. The menu at Rye Goods is thoughtfully crafted, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Their sandwiches, salads, and grain bowls are equally impressive, offering something for everyone. I also love their seasonal specials, which always bring a creative twist to the table. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making every visit feel special. The space itself is bright and inviting, with plenty of seating to relax and enjoy your meal. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Laguna Beach, Rye Goods is a must-visit. Five stars all the way—this place is pure perfection!

Yelp
10/10 I can't say enough about Rye Goods. Current Favorite Dish: Eggs Provance The pastries are light & clean. Best coffee in Laguna Beach. You will never leave Rye Goods feeling poorly. An overall high vibrational experience every time!

Yelp
The food here is really good. The ingredients taste fresh and the food tastes almost homemade in the best way. I feel good after I eat here, fresh clean ingredients make for fresh and clean energy. The service is good, no complaints there. The only thing keeping me from giving this place 5/5 is the pricing. Both times I've come here it's been 20$+ for one item including tip. I understand it's Laguna, and healthier spots tend to be more expensive, but I can't justify 20$ for an average sized breakfast burrito. I will most likely come back just because the food tastes and makes me feel good, but I can't be a regular. And I can't recommend it to family or friends because it's inaccessible. In short; amazing food, very high price, worth it if you have the money to spare.

Yelp
I have been coming to Rye Goods in Laguna Beach since it open. The food is good however the last 3 times that Ive gone, one of their servers, a tall thin male has waited on me the last 3 times. He is so unprofessional towards me. Today, 8/22 at noon when I saw home I greeted him and said," nice to see you" He frowns at me and didn't greet me back. He is rude, when I asked him about the wifi, without looking at me, he says, "its over there" The last visit he was rude, unpleasant and I just thought maybe he had a rough day & not to personalize his behavior towards me, but today he did it again. Just blatantly not kind, looking away from me when I was at the register ready to order the delicious Avo Toast.. I felt embarrassed, so I literally step out of the line. The customer next to me went to order and he was upbeat, kind, engaging and this made me feel some type of way. I believe this young-man has a bias! Where is the owner? The Manager.. I was so disheartened, I left and went across the street at Zinc. The staff at Zinc are basically consistent, they smile, they are engaging and a few remember my face! After these past 3 unpleasant experiences with RYE Goods, I will no longer shop there The food is GREAT, my personal experience and service has been subpar! Full Disclosure:: Customers of any culture or race other than Caucasian please be aware!!

Yelp
A cute bakery tucked behind the USPS store that offers a wide variety of baked goods and drinks! I ordered the morning sugar latte which I thought would have a caramelized sugar taste but was sadly let down as it tasted like a normal iced latte. Loved the pastries! Donut had a good amount of whipped chai filling that wasn't too overwhelmingly sweet. Sad that the meringue got smushed but it balanced well with the pumpkin filling! Will visit again to try more pastries!

Yelp
Love Rye Goods bakery and cafe. First time at this location. Sunday morning after an hour of driving to Laguna Beach this was our first stop. Got a few pastries and coffee to enjoy before walking around the village. The ambiance here is great. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating near the shops. I loved their specialty item so much. It was a crispy and flaky biscuits stuffed with whipped butter/cream and jam. So delicious. My son got the tea cake and loved it so did I. I can easily say everything we ordered we enjoyed it. Fresh and great quality baked goods are sold here. The coffee is amazing as well. Customer service was friendly. I'll be back soon.

Yelp
Try the summer lattes! I was hesitant to try the iced peach latte, but the kind lady at the counter ensured me it was worth it. Magnificent flavor; not overly sweet and tasted true to genuine peach. The pastries were also delicious and the shop had a very calm atmosphere.

Yelp
In two days went to Laguna and Newport. Laguna is the better spot and seating but food and drinks awesome in both. Loved kale and squash salad, vegan choc cookie, matcha, English breakfast style tea, sourdough toast w their yummy butter and the chocolate coffee croissant If I had more days I'd keep going back. Nice stafff. Laguna great for WiFi and also getting some work done.

Yelp
I'm not the first to discover this little gem. But, I have to add my voice to the chorus of praise. Coffee cake moist, flavorful, excellent Egg Bagel Sammy another winner Eggs Provence fabulous mixture of flavors and textures, highly recommend Vegan cookie tasty treat packed full of good stuff Chocolate Chip Cookie solid The atmosphere is quaint with indoor and outdoor seating tucked in a cute little shopping area. Employees were great, patiently making recommendations from the small but powerful menu. I will return to this winner!

Yelp
The interior was cute and nice to do work in but the iced latte was not it. It tasted watery and sour (like the milk had gone bad).not sure if what I had was an anomaly, but I would not recommend the coffee :(

Yelp
Rye Goods does not disappoint, the perfect grab and go cafe to visit on your way to the beach. A short stroll from the Laguna Beach coastline, this eatery is tucked away in a small shopping center that feels as though it's in a forest glen. You are greeted upon entry, and they go the extra mile to deliver exceptional customer service. The farm fresh peaches coated in lemon juice and basil were refreshing to snack on while sipping their dark roast coffee seaside. For your maritime dream on-the-go dining experience, look to this castle not far from the sand, a few blocks away from Mermaid St.

Yelp
I wish I had read the reviews on the almond croissant before coming. It is not a typical almond croissant, it's very hard on the outside but I think it has a yummy inside with crushed nuts and citrus peel that reminds me of baklava a bit. It grew on me, but my other half didn't like it at all. I wish it were less dry, more buttery. The barista recommended the morning bun as the most popular item and it was ok, but not epic by any means. Coffee was pretty good. I loved the atmosphere and the location. Maybe it was an off day for them or us. I hope this business succeeds and I'm sure they have other things that are wonderful.

Yelp
Cute small spot perfect for a chill day in town. The service was friendly. I got avocado toast (kid version) and flat white and they're perfect just what I like! Worth check it out if you're in the area.

Yelp
We ordered the pumpkin muffins and sesame bagel to go! The muffin had a perfect balance of sweet and salty, with delicious chocolate inside. The customer service was excellent--they patiently and politely answered all our questions. The interior is adorable and spotless, with a cozy, homey vibe that makes you want to stay longer. I can't wait to come back and try the Parker House rolls!

Nimo M.

Yelp
The avocado toast was so good! And the almond croissant wow! I enjoyed my coffee as well. Very cute coffee shop and so close to the beach! Service was amazing as well!

Yelp
First time coming here wait was a little long but the food was good. Only problem was when the lady took our order she got it wrong asked for a vanilla latte with almond milk and she just gave me a latte with almond milk. I went back up and asked her to remake the whole drink because the shots tasted burnt and it had no vanilla! She just gave me back the same drink just added vanilla was super annoyed ! Just remake the drink. Anyways didn't bother to go up again to ask for a remake

Yelp
Just behind the post office on Forest- I discovered this gem' i need a whole extra day and would get a picnic lunch for the beach from here! Iced coffee hit the spot! And Almond Lemon poppyseed cake, but if i was not sharing i would just get the peach handpie/popover! Maybe on my way out of town i will stop in again with the kids before we head to Lido Marina where there is another location! (I believe the original one) If i lived nearby would totally get my bread and everything from here. Nice serene location..

Yelp
The good: I got the breakfast yogurt parfait, an almond croissant, a granola cookie, a rosemary latte, and a Kringle. The almond croissant was very different than most I've had before. It had a denser and more layered texture with more spice flavors and less of the almond paste flavor. My daughter really enjoyed the granola chocolate chip cookie. I got this because our cashier seemed enthusiastic about it. He was friendly and had a contagious best friend type of energy. The $11 parfait was part of their breakfast menu (served until 11 am) and it had apples, Greek yogurt, flax seeds, a fruit compote and more. It was enjoyable and quite sweet. The appearance in color and the flavors were very autumnal. The latte art was great and the flavor was subtle. The interior is very modern, hip and simple. They sell sodas and jams that look organic, local or healthier. I liked their modern wooden table number sticks. The bad: The Kringle tasted as good as a Costco Danish. So, this isn't a bad thing necessarily because those are good but it was just a less interesting eat for me. When you walk inside from the back door the space to view the pastries is quite narrow. I wanted the seasonal cranberry vanilla latte but they ran out of cranberry syrup. The interesting: There's indoor and outdoor dining areas. The outdoor areas are both in the front and back alley space. I thought its discrete location sandwiched between a few other shops was cute and quaint.

Yelp
This review is more specifically for their "holiday" items. We purchased a whole apple pie and when we served it for thanksgiving it was basically non edible. They left the skin on the apples and it made every bite hard and the texture almost felt like there was plastic in the pie. It was really hard to swallow. We ended up throwing it all away because nobody could eat it. For the $50 price tag I expected the apples to be peeled.

Yelp
Lots of delicious pastries and treats and a delicious looking menu for breakfast/lunch that I'd love to try next time I come. I got a specialty coffee which was just very strong in flavoring which was probably my own fault - def recommend asking about the tastes when you come here! lots of seating with space outdoors as well. Line moves relatively quickly but if it's long/around a busy meal time be prepared to wait a moment.

Yelp
The bread and desserts here are fantastic! We enjoyed the sesame loaf immensely as well as their pastries. Service was friendly and very helpful. The store is beautiful. The prices are a bit high, but considering the quality and care they put into each item. it is well worth the splurge. One of my favorite bakeries in Orange County, highly recommended.

An N.

Yelp
One of the best bakeries in Laguna Beach! They have an amazing selection of pastries and baked goods that are all made daily. Terrific selection of breads. Service always friendly. Great local vibe. Great addition to the Laguna Beach community.

Yelp
I live locally in town and I thought I'd stop by here and order a simple grilled cheese sandwich. Figured it would be quick. I was on my lunch hour. It took a half an hour to get my sandwich. They told me it took so long because they bake it. I finally received my sandwich and I left. When I got home, I opened the box and the bread was burnt! Burnt to the point of black and it was un edible. I did call the store and explained what happened and that I cannot come back right now because I was on my lunch hour. The gal that I spoke to was very apologetic and nice, she said that they would refund my money. I am waiting for that refund and I appreciate her concern. A $15 sandwich that takes a half an hour to make, and then to be burnt is totally unacceptable I had to throw it away

Jacci S.

Yelp
The place is busy , the service is great, the food is fresh but the bagels was too messy to eat. Overpowered

Yelp
Bread, pastries, coffee. How could I resist? For my afternoon snack, I ordered a cappuccino. But that was not all... Cappuccino - A potent pull, cut with some nice foamy milk. Strong but not burnt with the right amount of warm milk. Really good. Cheese and Chive Scone - This savory scone is sinful. If I lived in the area and if these weren't $7 each, I would be downing these like a bowler does pins. Eat them there, or take it home and pop it in the toaster oven for a quick minute and a pat of butter so that I would not get cotton ball mouth. Cheesy, chivy goodness in its slightly bricky dough form. Jalapeno Cheddar Loaf - Their loaves are grain heavy, dense but with plenty of airy give. I sliced them at home, placed them in the toaster and liberally applied butter, which accentuated the cheese flavor. The bread is strong enough for any sandwich or great just by itself. Loved it. The cafe itself is very bright and airy with white walls and a front and back entrance. They make various pastries like croissants, coffee cakes, banana bread, morning buns, cookies, focaccia, various bread loaves and sandwiches. The workers here are really friendly. They had no probably explaining to me what their favorite items were and why. I can see why Rye has had all the hype the past few years, because it's deserved. Come here for breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon snack!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent and friendly service, perfect little cortado with oat milk, quite lemony lemon almond poppy loaf so therefore it was delicious (biased because that's one of my favorite pastries). I wanted to like the Dijon twist more than I did, but great little cozy indoor space with seating and they have keys to the nearby restrooms along with outdoor seating. I should have left with some bread!
google avatar

Yelp
Laguna Beach, Ca. I'm glad that this place is open for business again. There was quite a long line but they have it pretty well figured out how to get things to roll smoothly so we didn't wait too lon g. We were lucky to grab a just vacated outside table. There is not a lot of them. My latte was very good, but not perfect, just a tad too milky. My seasonal sandwich was pretty much a French roll with a tiny bit of lettuce and a hunk of cheese inside. Definitely not worth $14 for basically a couple pieces of bread. It's not really a sandwich, more of a bread tasting with small embellishments. The taste was pretty much what I expected: Bread. If you want a real sandwich full of real ingredients that match or exceed the bread quantity, you will need to go elsewhere. This is not a serving for the hungry. The avocado toast by contrast was excellent, a generous amount of sliced avocado with innovative seasoning on a nicely toasted slice.

Yelp
Such a cute, cozy spot with friendly staff. As a long time sourdough bread shopper of their Lido location, I was so excited to try their other menu offerings. I ordered 3 different dishes from their breakfast & lunch menu, as well as 3 different pastries. As much as I wanted to love everything, I was absolutely shocked by how dry every single pastry item was. :-( I could barely finish the apple cider donut and two varieties of croissants because of how dry and stale they were. I'm talking rock hard. Was so confused! On the positive side, the butternut squash soup, grilled cheese and breakfast egg dishes were delicious and great for Fall, but as a bakery, I could not get over how poorly the baked goods tasted. I'll still stick to continuing to purchase the sourdough because it is amazing, but in all honesty am not eager to return for much else.

Yelp
Went here on a Sunday morning during our weekend trip to Laguna Beach. Easily found hourly metered parking and there was a lot of indoor and outdoor seating to choose from. The workers were really sweet and the interior is super warm and minimalistic. There were people studying/working and also catching up w friends. Between the three of us we tried the Morning Bun, Coffee Cake, and Coffee Chocolate Croissant. For drinks we got the Iced Oolong Chai, Cortado, and Morning Sugar Latte. Coffee Cake -- 7.5/10: frosting was a bit sweet Chai -- 9/10: good combination of both flavors Chocolate Coffee Croissant -- 7/10 Cortado 9/10 -- they made it decaf for my friend! Morning Sugar Latte -- 7/10: couldn't really taste the sugar but the latte itself was good Morning Bun -- 8.5/10: has hints of orange in the sugar which is so good

Yelp
Visited the Laguna location. The stars are for the ambiance and service. I was surprised to see all the lunch offerings available and the cooler with fresh eggs and homemade accompaniments. This made me excited about trying their baked goods. The service was very friendly and helpful. That is where my good experience ended. My family ordered 4 different bakery items to enjoy with a cup of coffee at home. We ordered a pop tart (like a hand pie), banana bread, almond croissants and a chocolate cookie. We also ordered coffee beans, which they ground for us. The coffee was pretty good. A medium roast, with good smooth flavor. The baked goods? The whole reason for our stop? The one thing a bakery should do well? They all ended up in the garbage! I felt terrible throwing them in the bin, as they were all very pretty. Clearly someone had worked hard on them. But they were all really terrible tasting. The almond croissant was heavy, had cut up almonds, but no almond taste. The only flavors we picked up were a strong citrus and an herb- maybe sage?? Not like any almond croissant I've ever had, or want to have again. The croissant part was even strangely dense and heavy. The banana bread- something I would consider hard to mess up- was also terrible. It was dry and the taste profile was of old oil. No banana flavor, not mildly sweet even, just oil. The cookie was ok- but texture was dry and the pop tart filling was good- not great- but the crust also tasted of oil- not butter, and who wants to taste oil? I'm not sure if all the locations are this way- I'm not sure how they are still in business if they are- but in my opinion- these bakers need some more education perhaps. Not to mention it is very pricey! I am fine paying a premium for organic baked goods- I prefer organic- so I didn't balk at the prices. But when you pay that amount for goods that were this bad, it is very disappointing. They have a $94 carrot cake and I am curious if it even tastes like carrot cake.

Yelp
My mother and I had a very simple and great lunch here. We both ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, which is white cheddar cheese, pesto and squash on a brioche. It's a very indulgent, delicious sandwich and it was plenty of food. All the ingredients meshed perfectly and in a unique way. It's the first time I've had grilled cheese, squash and pesto together and surprisingly it really works. We also had their coffee, which was also very good. We sat outside in the courtyard which had a very pleasant and chilled vibe. The staff are super friendly and help create a relaxing mood. I looked at dishes some other diners were eating and they all looked tasty. I'll certainly be back to try some more.

Yelp
I love Rye Goods The house made sandwich is delicious, full of veggies and filling. Sometimes I'll have a croissant or try one of their specials. Their bread is really delicious too but remember to use it within a few days because it will get hard if you don't.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm shocked that I hadn't really have to review for Rye Goods yet! Rye Goods is my favorite bakery spot. We found ourselves there every weekend driving ourselves a cucumber sandwich and a couple of pastries. All of their food is organic local and homemade and the store bakery. One of my favorite things about them is that they are seasonal and they add new seasonal items to the menu often. And it makes it a fun surprise every time you go in!
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
I purchased a wide array of items and all were delicious. Our favorite by far was the danish style rye sourdough loaf. The prices are on the higher side but the quality is worth it.
google avatar

Bhumika S.

Yelp
Pretty small cafe but they have so many pastry/food options. Good amount of seating too and there's a parking lot nearby. Morning lattes were great (had a little bit of orange in them) and so was the bread pudding. I would say savory pastries could use a little bit more flavor/spice but still overall very good. Would definitely come here again. Side note not a great study spot since the tables are pretty small but great place to come and read :)
google avatar

Yelp
Abundance of green in the plates made our summer brunch bright and delicious. Crunchy Gem Salad with a side of egg, fluffiest Rye Scramble on a crispy baguette, and a state of the contemporary art Avocado Toast. Oh my! That was soo good, flavourful and nutritious. We loved how creative the Rye team is in combining flavours and textures: thumbs up for ricotta in the scramble, Dukkah and different local cheeses combined with the freshest young lettuces. The outdoor seating near the flower stand is lovely. Our server Monica was very attentive and showered us with smiles and kindness.

Yelp
Blake helped me decide on some of their new iced drinks, and I chose the hibiscus tea (so refreshing!) They have a interesting assortment on natural wine, including orange wine! Gluten free bread on the weekends! Also they have Challah, which is delicious, I highly recommend stopping in for hangout. They have WiFi and it's a lovely place to work!

Kathryn G.

Yelp
This place was to die for! All organic bakery with organic coffee. You can tell they use such quality ingredients. Staff were so kind & responsive. If I lived here I would come here everyday :) Please try the baked goods, phenomenal!

Yelp
Unmatched quality bake goods and coffees and their take home pizza dough is wonderful as well. Make sure to try the blueberry donut if you're looking to have the best donut experience of your life - Also shout out to Alan and the rest of the staff for always taking care of me. Thanks again / support small business putting out a great product and experience

Yelp
Laguna Beach is awesome and little gems like this shop are what adds to it's charm. I stumbled upon this place by accident and just happened to need some bread for some clam chowder I was having that night. I thought I would give this place a try - the breads on display had beautiful crusts. The person behind the cash register was super helpful and helped me decide on a loaf based on what I was looking for. I got the country loaf - something without additional ingredients and I think the most popular. The bread that night was excellent - the crust was beautiful, perfect caramelization, with a deep mahogany hue. The crunchiness was perfect. The interior crumb was also great, airy, with a delightful chew and texture. Tender and moist. And the flavor - what a great tasting bread. In any case, I really enjoyed the bread here, lightly toasted with olive oil it made a perfect pairing with my clam chowder.

Yelp
Had an absolutely AMAZING breakfast here. My boyfriend and I shared the eggs Provence and the bagel Sammy. The eggs Provence was so well balanced, creamy, tangy, salty, sweet, spicy. Decent portion, but definitely needed one more slice of baguette to dip. The sandwich was also great, I've never had a breakfast sandwich with a "crispy smashed potato" like that. The herb cream cheese was incredible! We both got honey cinnamon cappuccinos (Straus dairy, which we appreciated). Didn't get any sweets/pastries but all of them looked incredible. Next time I will be trying the warm oatmeal!

S S.

Yelp
It's rare to find a saffron latte and Rye Goods has it! It was delicious and filling. I'm not a coffee drinker (if I do get one it's decaf) so I really appreciate cafes that offer golden milk (turmeric lattes) and saffron lattes. The bread here is very good as well.

Yelp
I've become obsessed with their morning latte and have to stop by once a week to satisfy my craving. Every baked good I try here is amazing. There's always something new to try as well.0 All the employees are friendly and helpful. They made me feel like a regular the first time I walked in.

Yelp
Fantastic food and super nice people. I go here every time I'm in that shopping center in Laguna Beach.

Yelp
Their pastries all looked incredible. Cute small little spot. We got their cinnamon bun and it was delicious. Only downside was no gf pastries the day we came. They have a good food menu as well that I'd like to try next!

Yelp
Went in this past Monday and ordered their $15 egg bagel sandwich. The massive potato in the center was cold and it kinda ruined the whole sandwich. I didn't take it back because the staff didn't seem that warm or friendly. Will definitely be going elsewhere for breakfast.

Yelp
Right when you walk in it has such a great feel. I wished I could remember her name but she just started working there 4/5 days ago. She was so helpful and truly seemed liked she cared. It was amazing to watch her multi task to keep the business flowing for all. Fyi, my husband said I chose the right olive oil, thank you!

Yelp
I love this bakery. They are a wonderful addition to this town. This stuff is just lovely and very warm. Delicious bread, croissants, and more.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect coffee shop in downtown Laguna. Tucked away in a stunning little plaza. Very peaceful setting. Beautiful aesthetic. The Cinnamon Honey latte was incredibly good as were the fresh cinnamon sugar donuts with blueberries inside. Excellent service. Will be back whenever I'm in town!

Yelp
Really great coffee - and a beautiful selection of pastries, sandwiches, snacks. A clean, cozy shop with inside and outside seating. Staff are friendly, efficient.
