Rare bourbons, craft beer, tacos & signature Ranch Water cocktails

"In an old gas station, this canine-friendly Heights patio bar serves birria tacos, barbacoa or fajita chicken nachos, and more, alongside excellent frozens and a variety of Ranch waters. The whiskey collection is impressive, with bottles towering high above patrons at the bar. Try your luck at the ring toss game, in which guests are given a complimentary shot of whatever bottle behind the bar that they can toss a ring around." - Brianna Griff

"Eight Row Flint’s margarita contains a little egg white, though the effect is less fluffy because this drink tastes like straight-up tequila and lime. Given that Eight Row functions mostly as a patio bar, fruit juice tastes great if you’re sitting outside in the summer. Maybe whoever dosed out this drink has a crippling fear of getting scurvy or enjoys flushing their taste buds with straight acid. Either way, balance this marg with one of Eight Row’s tasty cheeseburgers, which will help with the lime intensity." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene
"This very-Houston watering hole boasts a huge cocktail menu, mainly featuring whiskey drinks, but the margaritas are a highlight here, too. Choose a more classic margarita, made with blanco tequila, orange liqueur, and egg white, or opt for the Watermelon Mezcal, featuring watermelon hibiscus syrup. Pair with one of the ice house’s most excellent tacos, and you’ve found Tex-Mex bliss in a whiskey-drenched bar." - Marcy de Luna

"This Agricole Hospitality venue was known for its weekly crawfish boils overseen by Bryan Davis, who argued that the best way to taste a cook’s style is to rip off the tail and slowly suck the head — a method he compared to a chef dipping a spoon and offering you a taste. The boils emphasized the spiced hepatopancreas (often called “crawfish butter”), whose foie-gras–like, concentrated richness is amplified by soaking the crustaceans briefly in the seasoned boil water. Regulars praise the experience for delivering intense, spicy, creamy flavor, and staff and enthusiasts recommend a careful technique — slow suction, a gentle pinch to avoid a spicy spray, and savoring rather than inhaling — to get the most out of the head’s juices." - Amy McCarthy
"If you're really into whiskey (or fancy booze in general) then walking into Eight Row Flint is like when those kids in The Goonies stumble into that room full of pirate treasure. What was once a mid-century dry cleaning shop in The Heights is now a fully-stocked bar—like ready-to-withstand nuclear fallout stocked—complete with a 25-page food and drink menu and hulking casks full of delicious whiskey. You can also rent a locker, because that's still a thing, and become That Whiskey Person. We all have our hobbies. Eight Row's giant patio is also a great place to take a date, snack on a cheeseburger and wings, or grab a few Happy Hour drinks during the week." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi
