Tony calls Sarawak laksa "a magical dish," it has chicken, prawn, coconut, chili, and noodles in a complex broth. “Best breakfast ever.”

The laksa wasn’t quite to my liking. The broth was creamy but lacked the strong prawn flavour I expected, so it didn’t feel very balanced. Prawns were fresh, but the noodles were slightly overcooked, and I unfortunately found a strand of hair in the bowl. The kolo mee, on the other hand, was better - a bit on the dry side, but the shallot aroma was fragrant and flavourful. I also ordered Teh C Special, but it came with ants. They did replace it, though the second cup still had ants around the rim. Service was polite, but overall the experience could be improved in terms of quality control. it

The laksa sarawak is nice, took the small bowl and the portion is nice and cost rm8 The only issue we had no cash🥲 They dont accept card and QR. Probably will be more convenient if they have that service. Even the drinks guy-doesnt have QR code Had to run to nearby bank across the road to withdraw money. Nice place to try,but pls carry cash with you.

Choon Hui Cafe in Kuching is a popular stop for tourists. The Sarawak laksa here is delicious, with a rich broth and well-balanced toppings that make it very satisfying. However, what stood out for me the most was the popiah — fresh, packed with flavour and served with a tasty dipping sauce that really elevates it. A great place to enjoy some authentic local favourites.

If you’re into Sarawak Laksa, most people will point you to Choon Hui. In my humble opinion, they make a tasty bowl of laksa but not necessarily the best bowl. Apologies to my Kuching friends but I truly believe the best bowl of Sarawak Laksa is to be had in Petaling Jaya at Lao Mao Cafe in Megan Rise Mall. To be fair, it’s not an apples to apples compare as the bowl of Sarawak Laksa at Lao Mao cost slightly more than twice that charged by Choon Hui. So the quality of ingredients and spices used in the broth are at a different level. For the price that they charge, I have no complaints about what Choon Hui delivers. A simple delicious bowl of noodles. Had the Kolo Mee here too. Think the noodles are too soft and the dry mix is a little bland and needs the vinegared chillies to provide some complexity.

I think this is one of the more popular and touristy coffeeshops in Kuching recommended in quite a number ot social media sites. Visited on a weekday morning and didn't expect this place to be so crowded. I was also recommended this place by a friend and decided to come here to try the popiah and laksa. Managed to get a table after a few minutes, but I didn't waste time and I ordered the laksa while waiting for a table. Could see they were busy but it didn't take long for the food to be served. Had a try and it was not bad, I didn't try a lot of laksa here but I thought it was one of the better ones. Couldn't see the popiah stall so I asked someone and apparently it wasn't opened. Disappointed. Then ordered the special teh c and decided to get the toast as well. The teh c was good and the toast was even better. It exceeded my expectations as it was so crispy and the kaya was light. Not a bad place for breakfast do expect crowds and hope I get to visit again and try the popiah. There's a kolo mee stall too if I remember correctly so its a place where you can try most of the local specialties. Recommended.

One of the best spots I’ve tried for Sarawak Laksa! The broth is rich, fragrant, and packed with authentic flavor — perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. The prawns and shredded chicken were fresh and generous too. I also had their 3 Layer Tea — super refreshing and not overly sweet, with a good balance of milk, tea, and gula apong. Cozy environment and friendly staff. A must-try if you’re craving true Sarawakian taste!

This place opens and closes very early. We came around 1015 and the place was still packed. The kolo Mee shop was already closed for the day. We got the Sarawak laksa and a porridge. The food was ok. Nothing too outstanding. By the time we are done, the laksa have finished even before their closing time of 11am. Parking is a huge issue as there really was very limited parking.

Choon Hui Cafe is a classic, old-style Kuching kopitiam serving genuine local dishes cooked by the community. Their Laksa, Kolo Mee, toasted bread, and popiah are all tasty and highly recommended. Despite no air conditioning, the cafe is surprisingly airy and comfortable. The only downside was the 3-Layer Teh C Special, which tasted diluted and lacked fragrance. Overall, Choon Hui Cafe is a fantastic spot for delicious, authentic local food in a traditional setting.
