It was a nice, quaint little spot, but a couple things.
First, I was charged $450 incidental fee for a room that cost me $350... yes, that was $450 on top of the $350, so basically they held half a grand that I would've much rather spent on shopping in the area. We were not told that it would be that much, we found out rather inconveniently. I asked the front desk about the hold but I was not really given an answer, other than "sometimes that happens" and "using a third party site to book will do that".
(Btw, my wife and I travelled to several different hotels in the past week, including a week in the presidential suite in one of Boston's most prestigious hotels; none of them required more than $100/night in holds and explicitly said so before charging us, so I am very bothered by this still.)
Second, the walls are paper thin. The hallway on the second floor is loud, like it sounds like a vacuum cleaner is constantly running, all night long. Idk what the sound is. We had to turn the TV on to drown out the sound so we could sleep. Also, at 7:30 am the cleaners are working and so you hear every single little glass clink, dropped item and word muttered during this time.
Breakfast was hard boiled eggs and fruit. I think maybe there was a bagel or something else to choose from, but it was very lackluster. Not a big deal tho as we did not even know breakfast was included, so it was welcome regardless.
All in all, it was an average stay. The rooms are nice and the neighborhood is nice, and the staff is nice. The noise was irritating and so was the massive incidental hold. But we spent the night walking Beacon Hill, stopping into shops and had a wonderful dinner, thanks to the superb location of Beacon Hill Hotel. While it may not be our first choice, I would consider staying once more, so long as the incidentals are a little less.
