Elevated British classics, from Scotch eggs to duck pie

"Greenwich Village British bistro Lord’s is getting into the brunch game this month as of early October. The weekend meal includes full English breakfasts with fried eggs, fried bread, sausage, bread pudding, bacon, mushrooms, and beans ($32); breakfast sandwiches with rarebit cheese, a hash brown, and the option of sausage or bacon ($20); plus sweeter stuff like the sticky toffee pancakes ($18) and banoffee French toast ($18). Even better: the restaurant’s popular Welsh rarebit cheeseburger ($26) is available during brunch with no limit (typically, there are only 12 served for dinner each evening). It’s available from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with bar seats and tables open for walk-ins." - Nadia Chaudhury

"I note that Lord’s, part of their small restaurant group, was recognized as an Eater Best New Restaurant winner." - Emily Venezky

"At this Greenwich Village British pub, only 12 burgers made with Welsh rarebit are served nightly, and they’re available for in-person orders only, a tight off-menu offering joining the city’s new wave of secret burgers." - Nadia Chaudhury

"A companion English-accented venue that, together with its sister spot, has added theatricality and inventive British-inspired dishes to the neighborhood dining scene." - David Farley

"One of Eater’s best new restaurants in America of 2023 is open on Mondays. Lord’s is Dame’s Patricia Howard and Ed Szymanski second of three restaurants (the third being newcomer Crevette). The British-leaning bistro serves the type of food that coursed its way through New York’s gastronomic zeitgeist more than a decade years ago that’s seeing a revival. For dinner, this means hay-smoked trout, crispy pig’s heads, poached cod with butter beans and mussels, and corned beef and cabbage pies." - Melissa McCart
